Tried Lebanese food for the first time at Beit Zaytoon and it truly felt like discovering a hidden gem. I ordered the lamb chops while my husband had the chicken shawarma, and both plates came with rice, vegetables, and a fresh salad with a homemade dressing that was incredibly tasty and unlike anything we've had before. The drinks were homemade too - we had the lemonade and iced tea - and the presentation of everything was beautiful, right down to the mint sprigs in the glasses that added such a nice touch. We were served by the owner, Elias, who was warm, personable, and provided impeccable service the entire time. Even though we didn't order dessert, he surprised us with baklava on the house - delicate flaky layers topped with honey and pistachios that were absolutely delicious. What a great addition to the neighborhood! Authentic Lebanese Cuisine in the middle of Hempstead! We started off with their complimentary olives & pickeled radishes; refreshing and a great palate cleanser. Then we were served Pita bread; not the soft & fluffy kind but more of a thin pita pocket type. This pita went so well with the spreads! Here is our menu (shared by 3ppl): ~ Baba Ghannouj ($10): outstanding. The smokey flavors were mouth watering. Recommended! ~ Fattoush Salad ($15): very good; fresh veggies with a fresh herb dressing. Another great palate cleanser ~ Samboussek Jibneh (feta cheese dumpling) ($12/4pcs): loved these! The dumplings are deep fried but weren't greasy at all. This was a treat! ~ Lahme Meshwi (grilled filet mignon cubes w.rice & veg) ($40): I thought this dish was a tad bit overpriced but great nonetheless. The filet mignon was so tender and prepared perfectly. The rice and grilled veggies were good also. ~ Kaftan Kebab (grilled minced lamb kebabs w.rice & veg) ($25): the kebabs were very flavorful but could have used a sauce. I ate some with the Baba Ghannouj and it was wonderful. The assorted grilled Vegs were great. Note that they do not serve tap water; must purchase bottled water. Beit Zaytoon is located in a small strip mall, so there is plenty of parking available! Recommended, and I would definitely return to explore other menu items! read more

I was curious to try Lebanese food. First we shared the hummus and roasted eggplant appetizers. The hummus was very creamy and delicious. The eggplant was a little on the bland side I was expecting a more smoky flavor. I ordered the chicken shawarma for my main dish. The chicken was on the salty side but the seasoning was very good. I ordered water for the drink the waiter gave me a water bottle with no glass. I asked for a glass he gave it to me but seemed annoyed not sure why since it was a regular restaurant not a take out place. read more

Came here with my brother. Plenty of seating, not busy for a Friday night. Staff was friendly. Started off with complimentary Pickled Olives and Radishes and thin Pita Bread. We came in on the early side for a Sunday dinner. The place was empty and quiet. So quiet that I think the owner was napping at the table in the back by the kitchen as we walked in. He woke and sat us a table bringing us menus with some olives and pickled radish. We negotiated the menu deciding on a few dishes to share. The Baba Ghannouj was creamy and smokey perfect with the bread that was brought out. I really enjoy the Lebanese style bread, which people might just call pita, but I'm not sure that is correct because this is thinner, lighter and unleavened - I could eat the whole basket. The tabbouleh salad was very fresh and bright to offset the slightly bitter parsley - really great. The Safiha were fantastic and an easy share of 2 a piece for 2 people. Neither of us were particularly feeling any grilled meats so we decided on the Bamia because we are an okra and lamb fan. The stew was so good and really light. I think many people are turned off by okra, which can be thick and slimy if not prepared properly. This was the complete opposite. If anything I was surprised how soup like the dish was. There were hearty chunks of lamb meat in the stew and the rice was nice and fluffy. We couldn't finish this and I packed this having it the next day it was even thicker and I thought better then at the restaurant. All in all a very good experience. Delicious food in an unassuming strip mall setting. You walk and the staff is one person who seats you as well as takes the orders. Turns out he is the owner. Once you get him talking you realize he has an amazing background in the global and NYC food scene. There is also one person who serves, clears and looks like is part of a 2 person kitchen staff. I was looking forward to trying Beit Zaytoon. Boy what a disappointment. The place was empty on a Saturday night. Maybe 3 tables were occupied. That should have been a hint. It wasn't bad but it was a little below average. A mezze of olives and pickled turnip were put on the table as we were seated.we order hummus and baba ganousht for apps. That was good and hot pita in a plastic bag , that was good too. When we asked for more pita it came out in a plastic bag too except it was ice cold. We didn't order drinks but wanted water so they brought out six bottles of water and charged us for it. The fish was fine, the stuffed cabbage was ok everything was ok but nothing outstanding. The food. I know what traditional middle eastern food tastes like. My mother was Syrian and made many dishes that they have there and it was never overly seasoned. The lamb was always palatable, not just my mother's but other establishments that I go to. The okra with lamb was so full of grizzled, it was worse than chewing rubber bands. The babaganoush, the tabouleh and the bread, a perfect symphony of appetizers (careful it's filling)! For mains, chicken shawarma, kafta and the Kibbe Saniye were all amazing! Terrific find! I was looking for a restaurant with an interesting menu,in the area, and came upon this place, with wonderful reviews. It's in a strip mall, very charming, with excellent service and amazingly fresh, delicious food. It's byob, with no corking fee. We started with a Cesar salad, so fresh and plentiful. Complimentary olives and pickled , what I think are radishes, along with warm pita bread were included. My husband had stuffed grape leaves with minced lamb and rice, and I had grilled salmon with vegetables and rice. I am BLOWN AWAY by this restaurant. We ordered sheesh taok two ways, the dinner and in a pita, as well as hummus, falafel, and the lebanese dessert. We ordered on Uber eats, and even after sitting for 30 minutes the chicken was fresh and hot and fell apart the second I bit into it. There is so much unbelievable flavor I had an actual out of body experience. It didn't even need a sauce, it was just a bonus. The rice was probably some of the best rice I've ever had, seasoned and delicious. This place is an ABSOLUTE MUST. Listen to the other reviews on google! Get the green sauce, garlic sauce, and tahini. I've never opened my phone to write a review so fast in my life !! I cannot wait to eat here again. Absolutely phenomenal! My sister introduced me to this place while I was visiting home from Colorado. The owner is so welcoming and friendly. It felt like we were enjoying a very authentic meal in his home. Everything was so delicious. From the falafel, hummus, fattoush, sambousek (all pictured) etc. we had zero complaints. I've gotten food from here a few times and every time everything I've ordered has been delicious. I tried the baba ghannouj this time and it was smoky and creamy and had that really full eggplant taste. The chicken shawarma is always so tender and the spices are so warm and inviting, it's my favorite thing on the menu. My boyfriend loves the kibbe laban; the sauce is fantastic, super creamy and tangy, and the kibbe goes so well with it, it's absolutely worth a try. The dessert is like a lovely, silky rice pudding with a beautiful floral flavor, topped with crushed pistachios.
