I had such a great experience with this dental office, and I really want to recognize a few people who made my visit so positive! First, Ashley, the office manager, is an absolute sweetheart and genuinely one of the nicest office managers I've ever met. She is extremely easy to talk to and truly cares about helping her patients. I was having an issue with being charged for a service that I had canceled back in January, and Ashley immediately looked into it for me. She contacted Dr. Zack and was able to get the charges from the past six months reversed. I cannot thank her enough for taking the time to help me and actually getting the issue resolved. She was so kind, understanding, and helpful throughout the entire process! Yuri helped me with my check-in and also took my X-rays. He was super professional, easy-going, and very nice! He explained the entire process to me, made everything quick and easy, and got the job done without making anything feel rushed or uncomfortable. Such a great experience with him as well! And WOWWWW... DR. HIGGINS WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!! What a true game changer for this office! I am BEYOND happy that he is there now. He has such an amazing personality, he's honest, easy to talk to, and most importantly, he made sure I completely understood my treatment plan after reviewing my X-rays. I really appreciated that Dr. Higgins didn't try to upsell me on anything I genuinely didn't need. He was straightforward about what was necessary, explained everything clearly, answered my questions, and made me feel extremely comfortable with my treatment plan. He was seriously such a delight to speak with and just an all-around great guy! I truly hope I get Dr. Higgins every time I come in to review my treatment plan because he made such a difference in my experience. The other negative reviews I am reading here are pretty spot on. There were a lot of things about this place that seemed off. Here is my experience: I arrived a bit early to do paperwork. The paperwork is digital and they don't provide guest wifi and the AT&T signal there isn't great. You have to sign a waiver agreeing to their use of AI. They had me do X-rays then photographs. During the photo-taking portion, they had trouble getting the AI-camera to work for a few minutes. One of the technicians was typing at a computer and touching a mouse but would then would put his hands into my mouth without sanitizing. After, I was brought to a small room with a tablet to speak to a dentist remotely. (There was no dentist on-site.) He recommended an alignment and cleaning. Halfway through the meeting, an appointment-taking employee entered the Google Meet as well - which I thought was a bit weird. 5 minutes later when the doctor was done, he exited and the employee told me it would $3,000. I asked "is that for the alignment?" and she said "it includes the alignment..." I asked "what is the $3,000 for?" and she said it was for "everything [the dentist] went over." I get that she can't go into medical details - although she can sit in on the discussion? - but it felt a little like they were trying to obfuscate the prices/services a bit. I asked what the cost would be for /just/ the cleaning and she sent over an agreement - which took a few minutes to come through because of bad signal and no wifi - for me to sign, showing it would be $250 with my PPO insurance. I declined to sign as I my insurance covers cleaning and I can go elsewhere and not pay out of pocket. I am also not used to signing an agreement ahead of time with a dentist just to make an appointment for a cleaning. I ended up leaving and will not be returning. It is unfortunate, as a nearby Zak Dental was my childhood dental office many years ago. read more

We switched to DMO for the first time and made the appointments for my two sons. We came in 15 minutes early and had all the necessary paperwork completed online. Both sons were called in and had their x-rays taken then waited in separate rooms for over 45 minutes. Then one of the sons came to call me into a room set up with a virtual meeting/ conference with the doctor, being at a different office in LA, and his assistant on a separate screen. He went over the X-rays for one son and then the x-rays for the other. I mentioned that we have dentists within our family, but are out of the area. So, we would hoped to have their teeth cleaned. But instead he had the assistance provided me with their treatment plans with one close to $1000, and over $3000 for the other (with a discount). I replied asking if they would still able to get their cleanings. She put me on hold for a few minutes and came back saying that they were booked for the rest of the week, but will put us on a waiting list if they have any cancellation. My son and I went out to the waiting room to wait for my other son so we could leave. They had him sitting in a small room with no direction. I had to ask them to retrieve him. Never in my life had experienced this unprofessional situation and how they wanted to upsell us with treatment plans and won't even see us for cleanings. To add to this, I was finally able to take both sons to our family dentist and had their x-rays, which came back with no cavities and no treatment plans needed but just cleanings. I would not recommend coming here, but only if you are looking to have an impersonal/ unprofessional experience and for them to try to upsell you with a treatment plan. read more

I have been using Dr. Zak Dental for 20 years, and I have always been very pleased with the quality of care. I had a very good experience with the root canal yesterday. Dr. Guise was exceptionally gentle and precise--truly the skill of a fine surgeon. There was no pressure or pounding; he let his precision instruments do the work, and I actually slept through most of the hour-and-a-half procedure. He mentioned afterward that it was not an easy case, with several very narrow canals and one that was particularly difficult to locate. I could tell he had worked very carefully and diligently to make sure the root canal was complete. I'm very grateful for his skill and the care he took with me. My recovery has been remarkably easy. Matt, the assistant, was outstanding. He was right there with the doctor throughout the entire procedure. Irene was so sweet and caring. Everyone did their part to make the experience as comfortable and pleasant as possible. read more

I wanted to give this practice a fair review because there is genuinely a lot to like here -- and that's precisely what makes the scheduling inefficiencies so frustrating. The staff, dentists, and specialists are warm, knowledgeable, and professional. My deep cleaning was handled efficiently and without complications. My root canal experience was nothing short of impressive: consultation, treatment plan, payment processing, and the procedure itself were all completed in under 30 minutes. That kind of respect for a patient's time is exactly what I had hoped this practice would consistently deliver. Unfortunately, it has not been consistent. My first visit opened with an unexpected telehealth appointment -- I had no issue with a virtual exam in principle, but walking into what I assumed was a standard first visit and being seated in front of an iPad for 20 minutes before a dentist appeared on screen was not a great first impression. A simple heads-up would have gone a long way. The bigger issue is the practice's approach to scheduling. I have now had to take time off work for four separate visits, some of which could have been combined or eliminated entirely. When I was told my deep cleaning would be split across two sessions, I had to advocate for myself to have it done in one visit -- which it was, without any problem. When I returned for what should have been a straightforward crown consultation following my root canal, I was again placed in front of a virtual dentist -- despite a physical dentist being present in the office that same day, the same dentist who will ultimately perform the crown procedure. It was only after I raised the concern that an attempt was made to get me seen in person that day. The root canal visit proved that this practice is capable of handling multiple steps in a single appointment efficiently. It simply doesn't appear to be the default approach. Patients shouldn't have to push back repeatedly to have their time respected. The clinical care here is good. The people are genuinely kind. But the operational model -- heavy reliance on telehealth visits that add appointments rather than streamline them -- is a real drawback, and it's the reason I won't be returning once my current treatment is complete. read more

I was told several different things and have been waiting now 7 months for my procedure to be done. the oral surgeon was rough and rushed. it was my worst nightmare. I recently went in for a scheduled appointment to have a nightguard fitted, which I had been waiting about a month to receive. Because I have young children, I had to rearrange childcare and leave work early to make this appointment, so it required some planning on my end. I also grind my teeth quite severely, so going without a nightguard for an extended period has been a concern for me. At the appointment, it became clear right away that the nightguard did not fit properly. The dentist explained that they would need to rescan my mouth and remake it, and mentioned that the new one should be ready in under a week. While I was disappointed, I understood that things can happen and appreciated the relatively quick turnaround. However, when I went to the front desk to schedule the follow-up, I was told that there were no afternoon appointments available for over a month. I explained that I would need an afternoon time due to work and that this was a remake of a device that did not fit. I asked if there were any alternatives, such as being seen by another provider or being accommodated sooner. The response I received felt dismissive, and I was told by Maya and Yuri that there were plenty of morning appointments available, without much effort to help find a solution. I understand that scheduling can be challenging, but given that this situation was due to an issue with the original nightguard, I was hoping for a bit more flexibility or support in finding a reasonable solution. A more empathetic and proactive approach from the front desk would have made a big difference in this experience. At my previous dental office, the front desk staff consistently made patients feel welcomed and supported, which really highlighted the difference in this experience. Unfortunately, due to the overall lack of communication and customer service, I do not plan on returning after I receive my nightguard. Not Kids Friendly !!! Service and Cleanliness needs improvement!!! I would not recommend taking your child to this clinic. I brought my 7-year-old daughter because her regular dentist was under construction, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The staff clearly lacked experience with children. They did not have child-sized X-ray vests, the equipment they used was all meant for adults, and they were unable to take her X-ray properly. At the end of the visit, they made us wait 20 minutes for a video call with the doctor. When I said I couldn't wait any longer, they told me they would call us later to set it up -- but they never called. This alone already damaged my trust. I returned this week for my own appointment, and while the dental treatment itself was fine, the same issue happened again. They kept me waiting 15 minutes for a video consultation. I again told them I could not wait, and 1-2 hours later they called to schedule a virtual appointment for the next day, promising to send a link. I sincerely hope they follow through this time, because my trust is already very low. Additionally, I have concerns about their hygiene practices. In both the X-ray room and the room where they did the dental scanning, I noticed the staff touching my mouth and then immediately using the computer mouse and keyboard to adjust settings -- without changing gloves or sanitizing their hands. I have never once seen these surfaces or rooms being cleaned between patients. Maybe they do it afterward, but I personally have never witnessed it, and it did not leave a reassuring impression. Overall, while some parts of the visit were acceptable, the lack of pediatric preparedness, poor communication, long waits, and questionable hygiene practices have made me extremely uncomfortable. I hope they improve, but at this point, I cannot recommend this clinic. read more

When I asked for a refund because I wanted treatment elsewhere, I was told they would submit a refund request but would keep about 20% of it. This is the first dentist office I have ever been to with no dentists onsite for your appointment. We checked in 10 min early and were seen 30 minutes after check in. Waiting room does not look like the pictures, very run down with stained Amazon furniture. My son came in for first time visit including annual checkup updated x-rays and cleaning because I recently switched my insurance to HMO. Because they did not have proper equipment for my son's mouth, he was gagging and for about another 30minutes he was taking x-rays, pano scans and then an AI live video of his teeth. Then we were brought to a consultation room with no equipment, just an ipad where the dentist reviewed the x-ray and scans with us remotely, no dentist ever looked at my son's teeth or saw him in person. They told us he needs 24mo min of orthodontics and it would be the same cost between 12-24mo ($3k +) additional cost if it was 30mo. LOL Then I asked if my son was going to get a cleaning as this was the main preventative maintenance we came in for and they said they normally do not schedule cleanings for 1st time appointments but they would accommodate. I don't know if the hygienist assistant was qualified but they put so much harsh fluoride on my 12 year old son he literally came out crying of how spicy the taste was in his mouth and it's now an hour later and he cannot eat because the taste is so bad. He has been in tears since the appointment and is literally traumatized by this office experience. I will not call it a dental appointment because again he did not even see a dentist. We received care from Zak Dental for a year, then moved to Bright Now dental, which we are super happy with. Zak dental appointments are difficult to make and you end up getting multiple texts leading up to your appointment with different times. We were finally told that they make one appointment slot for cleaning and another for Xrays or fillings, etc for another time slot on the same day. It's super confusing. They also spent only about 10 minutes cleaning my child's teeth each time. The worst part, however, is that you never see an actual dentist in person. You sit in a room waiting for a dentist to enter a zoom chat with you. It just feels rushed and impersonal. We are much happier at a different office. read more

I sure wish I would have read some of these reviews before I subjected myself to this place. I just wanted my teeth cleaned! I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and made an appointment for x-rays. Then had to wait for the zoom conference to learn they wanted to charge me $4K for their "treatment plans". They went through it so fast...I wasn't sure of anything except that I just wanted my teeth cleaned! When I told them that, I was met with intimidation and pressure. I told them I just want my teeth cleaned. I made an appointment for that and was charged a $50 "refundable deposit" to "hold the appointment". When I went to the appointment, they told me I had a $10 copay and did I want to pay with cash or with credit card. I told them to take it out of the "deposit" (DUH!) which would leave them $40 to refund to me. I also asked for copies of the documents I had to sign for using just a signature pad. Who knows what I was signing!!!?! I have no paperwork - except for their treatment plan - and no receipts. I have yet to see a refund, so I called my insurance and they said my benefit plan shows NO COPAY so the dental office owes me the full $50. I will not be going back there. I guess I should feel lucky that I'm only out $50. Blatant Crooks and Liars!! It's sad because, the actual treatment I did receive (x-rays, cleaning and polish) was nice. went to zak dental got some credit to get work done they took the money from the credit on the first day, they were not able to schedule any work until the credit would be paid off. I said why do I want credit? Am I paying for credit if I'm not gonna have any work done until paid off please refund the credit and they said no problem. Now they get a partial refund and kept the down payment of $471. It's taking me weeks to get them to refund the last three payments. I don't know why they did not refund the whole loan now I have to call them and I'll post again to let you know how it goes read more

My elderly dad has his dental work here. The staff are friendly and patient. However, there seems to be a lack of communication because the day of treatment we were told to consult with doctor first. This is usually not a problem I just wish we were told to consult doctor at the time of scheduling instead of the day of treatment. Also we had an agreement to a certain amount of work and there seemed to be a push for even more work. Again this was pushed on the day of treatment. We are going to finish what we started here but I'm keeping an eye on how the next treatment will be handled. read more

I visited Zak Dental in Simi Valley yesterday to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed w/ bone grafts under IV sedation. the very first thing I want to emphasize is how nice and gentle the doctor and the nurses are. This was my first time going under any type of anesthesia and they made sure I was comfortable, relaxed, and the provider explained things very thoroughly so I felt safe and it worked! I didnt even notice when he started my IV and it felt like I took a small nap then suddenly woke up and it was all over! My mom said the doctor was very very sweet and offered help with anything I could possibly need (work/school note, documentation of procedure, etc.) The staff in general was very well mannered in the front as well and the office is so pretty and nicely put together. Nothing but scam! I had a periodontal evaluation appointment with them. First able when I walked and did all the paperwork when they took to exam and XRY the lady had no clue what I am there for?! Long story short after the virtual appointment with Dr over the screen set me up for deep cleaning and coded me $1885 and once the deep cleaning done we will have a periodic appointment. What a waste of time!! Do not trust them! Shop them before any treatment. read more

Literally the worst dental experience of my life. They creepily put us in front of "meeting" on an iPad and said nothing to us about what was happening or who was on the other end for my son's appt. We waited for 45 minutes for something to happen. In total we were there for over an hour and they took five minutes of X-rays. I needed my son's teeth to be cleaned but clearly they had no intention of doing that. To be clear. I very clearly stated when making the appointment that my kids needed cleanings. At no time during the appointment process, check in, or otherwise did they tell me anything about a virtual consultation. Had I known that's what it was I would have left or not scheduled the appointment in the first place. My kids needed cleanings! Not a televisit. Not one employee cared enough to clearly articulate to me what was going on. For forty five minutes they left us sitting without any communication staring at a meeting that disconnected and didn't do anything but they didn't notice because they never checked in. We weren't treated well. Communicated with. Or given any actual care that a dentist should give. I couldn't recommend this dentist less. read more

I have to start off by saying the receptionist is always super sweet and welcoming so if you're a nervous one when it comes to the dentist like I am... being welcomed helps put me at ease a little bit. But the real star today is my xray Technician Irene! My goodness not only was she super sweet and gentle with my problematic tooth but was constantly checking in during the xray. To me, XRays are the worst and hurt everytime I get them but Irene absolutely made sure that it was quick and it barely hurt this time. I swear she's magical! ZAK DENTAL please make sure you are treating her like the gem she is! Ahh shes so great. We need more of her at the Simi location pleaseeeee and thank you! Weird.. I don't know if this is just normal these days, but I wasn't seen by an in-person dentist. Last October they did my x-rays and sat me in a room with a tablet mounted on a podium and the dentist appeared on the screen. My x-rays were evaluated remotely and an issue I mentioned (a lot of sensitivity/pain when biting on that side) was dismissed as a tiny crack that would be considered cosmetic to repair thus not covered. He was focused on trying to upsell me on various things - braces, aligners, a bite guard, all not covered by insurance. I returned last month with the pain in my tooth worsening and this time the hologram dentist told me I need a root canal and to call my insurance to find a specialist. Meanwhile I gave in and ordered a $350 bite guard because I grind my teeth (which apparently caused the "cosmetic" crack that is now a much bigger problem). I went in to have it fitted and it was extremely bulky and way too tight. The technician argued that it was too loose. It was actually so tight she couldn't get it to click into place no matter how hard she tried to press it (ouch). Either way they were going to have to remake it and I'd have to come back for another fitting. I decided to leave the practice and find one that has a dentist actually in the office. The whole experience felt oddly robotic and sales pitchy. read more
