The tabouleh is the real thing -- lots of parsley, tangy bright flavor. The eggplant salad is fantastic, and the hummus is a creamy delight. They have a big menu, and their meal specials are an outstanding value. It can be a little chaotic if it's super busy, but the staff is courteous, calm, and friendly. Zakia is a cute, randomly placed, Lebanese deli that also serves up standard deli staples (build your own sandwich, philly cheesesteaks and the like, chips, bottled beverages, etc.). They have a couple outdoor seats for the 2 months I can stand the weather (jokes...I'm just bitter about hibernation season starting) and the indoor area is always clean and bright. I've seen the same women there every time I've gone and they're always pleasant and accommodating (I don't necessarily want it "to-go"...can you just kind of wrap it so I can bring it with me when I have to leave? Oh you can? Why, thank you!) Not often can one walk into an establishment and have the option of ordering a philly with a side of hummus and pita...which is exactly what I did. The hummus is better than most places in the cities and the philly was surprisingly tasty! The bread it's served on is perfect. I've also "built my own" sandwich here and it was pretty average. The garlic sauce was a tad too strong (read: sour) and an option to have it heated would've been great. I can't comment on the actual Lebanese food having only tried the hummus but everything looked fresh and appetizing. There's this rice they (sometimes?) have that is tasty. Maybe it's because we always end up going after the lunch rush but they haven't had it out the last couple times. I misssssss this rice so try it if they have it! read more

I really like Zakia. The owner and the staff are always nice - especially when I ask them what I should eat, or I let them decide what goes on my sandwhich.. I'll say, "Just put whatever you would put on it." I get the Meatloaf sandwich (Tuesdays), Gyros Salad/plate, Philly Cheesesteak, Hamburger, or Dave Basha. I used to drive by this place so many times but I was too afraid to actually go in and order something because I'm not familiar with this type of food. Luckily you can order online so that helped get me in! I am obsessed with the stuffed grape leaves. I don't really have anything to compare them to other than some horrid tasting olive bar grocery store stuffed grape leaves. They are so beautifully flavored and seasoned. I love the hints of citrus and oil as well as the beautifully cooked rice inside. It has chickpeas and tomato inside too among other things but don't worry all you tomato haters - I myself despise tomatoes but I can't even tell that they are there in regards to taste or texture! Yayyy!! The falafel is good too! It seems dry but it's been consistently dry so I just think that's how it's supposed to be! I don't know any better so I wouldn't judge on something I am not familiar with. The yummy white sauce that comes with it (tahini sauce I believe) helps with the dryness and it tastes great! I've ordered it maybe 4 times now so I definitely like it! The roasted red pepper hummus is wonderful! So creamy and delicious. I've had it twice now and it's been consistent. I actually had a full chickpea in one order so that made me feel as if it was most certainly made in house which is great! Not any heat whatsoever but a beautiful flavor of red pepper. Exactly how I like it. The pita bread seems fresh as well. I switch between the stuffed grape leaves, hummus, and the falafel for now! I can't wait to try more things!! They have so many options and the prices seem great too! I definitely love stopping by for lunch or a quick snack. The food here isn't bad by any means, however, I had an unpleasant experience yesterday. I received a BOGO coupon from Zakia at a catered non-profit event some time ago. I ordered my food, two kebab sandwiches, and grabbed a container of baklava to add to my order. When I got to the counter, a woman rang up my order. After presenting my coupon, she abrasively informed me that I also needed to purchase two beverages in order to use the coupon, saying "Yeah the fine print!" That's fine, it is listed on the coupon, so I ordered two bottle of coke with my meal. The lady then stated that the baklava was free. I thought to myself, oh they've noticed I'm a new customer and are trying to earn my patronage. I kindly said, "Thanks!". I decided to generously tip her for this act of kindness. After providing my form of payment, I saw that the total seemed oddly high for a BOGO coupon. After getting my receipt, I realized that the lady decided that my BOGO coupon was only valid for the baklava ($1.99!). The purpose of these coupons is to get people in your establishment! I came to order, with a valid coupon, and had to argue with the cashier about its validity. She kept murmuring that the coupon was valid for "one MENU item", which would be the cheapest item. I looked at the menu, and saw that baklava isn't even listed. This really came off as abrasive and cheap. Why is there a need to argue with a customer about the semantics of a coupon, when the item isn't even technically a "menu" item to begin with? I asked for a refund and purchased the two sandwiches without the baklava. She didn't even offer to re-do the transaction correctly and have me purchase the baklava. I was given two options: I either had to pay full price for my entree or NOT get dessert. Obviously, I chose to save $7.99 versus $1.99. This seems really odd to me, as the business lost out on additional revenue. The deli manager came and assisted me with cancelling the transaction, and was very pleasant, but I couldn't believe that this cashier considered this an acceptable way to treat a customer. Needless to say, I won't be returning here. With all of the great Mediterranean restaurant options in the Twin Cities, I won't be driving across town to try this place again. After the second transaction was completed, the cashier ripped the receipt and almost threw it at me. She was visibly unhappy. A business which tries to scam customers out of a valid coupon issued directly by the restaurant is ridiculous. Don't issue coupons if you don't want to honor them! read more

Holy Danny Thomas, a Lebanese deli, just when I was wondering where I was going to get my next falafel after my beloved Abu Nader closed its doors, I run into these reviews. It was late, around 7, and not sure what I was in the mood for, and this abundant bowl of spaghetti behind the glass was a picture. They do a very clever mix of American comfort food and Middle East flavors. An hour before closing they still had a huge variety of sides and salads and I had to choose 2. I got the roasted red pepper hummus and chicken pasta salad. I had a taste of the chick pea salad and it needed more oil because it left some water in the cup. I tried my husbands falafel and spinach pie, and with lent coming up these are lenten staples. I can see us coming here weekly mainly because they hit the trinity, Good, Cheap, and Fast. They also specialize in sandwiches and burgers. I wish they offered some veg versions of their entree daily specials. I sampled the Dave Basha meatball dish, it had this delicious red sauce. Friday fish looks promising. Some desserts are homemade and some aren't. We took home an interesting custard one blanketed with coconut, strong, but yum. They actually have a handicapped ramp, and a nice lot. Plus if you need a cop, come here. read more

If there's one thing I can't stand is poor customer service. Calling your customer an ASS in a foreign language as you take their money is completely unacceptable. You shouldn't assume people don't speak your language cause they look like a California white guy. I wonder how many other customers get the same treatment and don't realize it. Best tabouli I've ever had and I grew up in metro Detroit with a huge Lebanese population so I know my way around a bowl of tabouli. The hummus, mjaddara and falafel also delicious. Lots of variety. A sides list buffet given the different options. The prices are what I used to pay in the 90s for good falafel, ie cheap! Under 6 bucks gor a falafel samdwich. I love this Deli! I rarely give 5 stars for any place. On Monday's you must try their lubnay omelette. Their dolmas/stuffed grape leaves are the best. Also the falafel is really good.
