My go to restaurant!!! I've been to other wood fire Italian restaurants and nothing compares to zanatas. Their blue crab, hummus and pimiento cheese I crave on a daily basis. Chunks of crab meat in a gooey feta cheese dip or pimiento cheese spread on top of hot, soft flat bread hit the spot every time as an appetizer. Also the lamb chops are divine and for pizza go with the wood roasted chicken pizza. All the different flavors go together wonderfully. The service is great too. Kristen is amazing and makes the experience even greater, sweet, hard worker. It's a little loud but the quality of the food makes up for it. The owners are super sweet as well. They come say hello to us every time we are in and take their time to talk to us and make sure everything is going great. Over all the best restaurant in town! Normally the food and service are excellent, however, tonight was terrible. The waitress was pretty clueless. The menu said cherry sauce on the chicken and they served it with balsamic vinegar. We told the manager who was very nice and he said that he would comp the chicken but the clueless waitress failed to get that right so instead of leaving our $20-$25 tip, we left 10%. Next time, maybe she should write it down. This is the problem with hiring people because they are young and cute, but when you do not train them, all hell breaks loose. read more

We visit Zanata at least weekly and believe the food is as good as there is in the metroplex. Zanata does however have a sound issue and should look into some sort of sound absorbing materials for the brick walls. It is uncomfortably loud and that detracts from an otherwise great place. They recently had a scallop with avocado cream sauce that is awesome ... I hope they make it a menu item. Great place but noisy. read more

Terrible host... gave me absolutely no reason why there's a two hour wait when the restaurant was almost empty.

So, let me just tell you, life changed. I had the BEST meal tonight that I have had in Texas. We started off with the Blue Crab dip, which as a PNW kid I have to say was delicious. Shared a Caesar salad that was perfectly topped with pancetta and egg, then I dove into the Lamb Chops. Wow. Like, WOW!!! Perfectly prepared luscious lamp chops on a bed of salted charred Brussel sprouts, pillows of gnocchi and the ever so beautifully after thought of truffle oil. OMG. I sipped on a nice farmy glass of Montepulciano. My husband got the king of meals, the Ribeye Florentine, ridiculously cooked and prepared like no other. Finally we finished with the Banana Fosters, holy cow. Like blow your mind. Is this real life? No, this is Zanata life. In love!! Micah and Jacob rule the bar and Michelle kills it on the floor. One of our favorite places. I'm not sure why this place does not get more recognition for its pizza, simply some of the best wood fired pizza in the Dallas area. My wife and I typically split a spinach salad (which is also outstanding) and a pizza. It's a perfect dinner for two. Have been coming here for years. Gotten to know the owners and they make us feel like family. And, they do that with many of their customers. Have never been disappointed. Been several times. Only once did we have VERY poor service. Slow night even...I blame waiter as he should have been checking on meal for us, but he chose to blame cook staff losing ticket. Whatever. Mgmt tried to provide some restitution, which did not cut the mark, so we had to suggest what would, which they agreed to- albeit grudgingly. I've been here a few times now, the blue crab dip is superb. I always start out with that and a black currant iced tea. Sometimes the wait is a little long but It's worth it. Food is always amazing, the first time i got roasted veggies with 50/50 meatballs to start but, this time me and my friend got the Osso Bucco which had an amazing sweet potato puree, as my friend got the the Sea Bass both recommended by our waitress Kaitlyn. Reviewing again. Came in on Wednesday night with my little girl (3). Michele our waitress was nice enough to cut up some fruit to give her while we waited on our food. This place is amazing. From the bartender to the server, to the hostess. I had a great time with friends. The z's house salad is phenomenal and the fettuccine already dish is unforgettable. We've been twice and will continue to go back! Great date night spot or dinner out with girlfriends, family visiting from out of town. You can't go wrong here. As a long time customer i'd never been to the Big Night Dinner either here or at the now gone Square Market...I know i'm slacking. This night we had quite a spread so i'll cover them individually. First was the roasted blue point oysters with bacon, peppers, chives, and a lemon butter sauce. The oysters tasted great...but damn, not well rinsed or something so they were a touch gritty (just a little but still noticeable in each one). The main course was a vermont cured baked ham with a vanilla bourbon mustard glaze...yummy. The sides were a white cheddar and speck with truffle mac and cheese which was pretty bad ass and mashed sweet potatoes with chipotle that were a little spicy for me and the wife but somebody else really like it. The green beans were also really good. The butterfinger bread pudding was pretty tasty as well although not quite up there with Nick and Sams. It also comes with a glass of house wine that they were not shy about generously pouring:) The price you ask, 17.99 per person. The portions, lets just say we had leftovers for dinner the next night and it was my lunch today. The sandy oyster was all that kept me from giving 5 stars. read more

This is our favorite restaurant in the downtown Rockwall area. We arrived tonight at about 7:00pm and sitting by 7:22 with 14 others waiting before us. We were first approached by our server within 5 min despite the busy atmosphere. The pricing isn't astronomical by any means but higher than chain restaurants for sure. However, once your food arrives you forget all about the price as your tastebuds explode with flavor in every bite! I had the lamb chops and my wife had the chicken and risotto both were absolutely amazing. The icing on the cake for us though was seeing the owner Kevin moving about bussing tables, delivering food, being genuinely interested in his customers' experience. Seeing my that kind of interaction by an owner instilled a sense of pride in what they are doing at Zanata which could be seen throughout all the employees. Never had a bad meal here I love this place. Soup and sandwhiches ae great. Salads are great, cheesecake is great. Pizza and pastas are great. Yum love Zanatas. Near thanksgiving the have a pumpkin cheesecake that is so good and I'm not a huge pumpkin fan. Soups here are always great too and they have a daily soup. read more

I really wish there was a way to rate places between the product and the service. Zanata's has marvelous food. Truly outstanding. We didn't get the pizza mainly because we couldn't agree on which one we wanted. Instead, I went with the Z burger and my companion had the Tuscan chicken salad sandwich. Again, both were amazing. However, our "waiter," Eduardo, was a complete disaster. One of his fellow waiters asked if we had been helped after we had been sitting drinkless for ten-fifteen minutes. He finally came over when he had to deliver the bill to the table next to us. Didn't greet us, tell us his name or anything. Just asked if we needed a moment to look at the menu. We'd been looking at the menu for nearly thirty minutes, Ed. I think we have that covered. He did bring us silverware, which had been missing. Food was brought to us by the manager, and then we didn't see anyone but the waiter who asked us if we had been helped. Who managed to clear off five tables to Ed's one. Ed had a large group at one table, but so did his counterpart. Ed sucked at moving people along. Usually, even in crowded places, you have to beat waiters off with a stick when it comes to drink refills. Ed came once to ask, filled one glass with water (we both had tea) and took them to the back to fill 'em up. We would have ordered dessert but our experience with Ed had already gone on too long. I'd actually give the food 3 1/2 stars but the service has a lot to be desired. Unless there are at least 4 people in your party, you will always wait longer so being the next in line means nothing. Tonight was the third time my husband and I got passed over and waited for over an hour before we finally left. The door greater even told us that they are not going to seat 2 people when they could easily use that table for four. I think this is really poor service and judgment considering that we have taken friends, clients and family there on several occasions. Not after tonight. We used to come to Zanata more frequently years ago when it opened, but the waits became long and it became so loud, we just started going elsewhere. Last night we came with a large group early in the evening. We had a table in the back so it wasn't quite as noisy. The food is so good from the appetizers to the salads to the pizzas and entrees.
