Update- owner reached out to ensure retraining occurs. After being here different times over the years with friends and family, I was slightly disappointed. Today, we went to Zanata's for my birthday. Honestly, our service was just mediocre compared to all of our other experiences here. It seemed as if our server was ready to leave or something as we overheard her telling a new server coming in that our table had already ordered. Maybe that is part of the reason why part of my meal was forgotten. She made sure she to let us know that she took it off, great- because we didn't get it. I would have ordered a second glass of wine, but she never came back by to ask. When she came by to ask about dessert, it came out as "you didn't want the dessert menu did you?"" ..... no, not asking that way. Our food was good and I'll give it another try, but not in a Saturday afternoon and definitely not for my birthday. So we left and are going elsewhere for dessert and drinks. read more

Run, don't walk, to come here. We live an hour away, over by Grapevine. Here for 24 hours for a business trip. We were roaming around the old courthouse Square downtown and stumbled upon this jewel. The atmosphere is really laid-back cool and their prices are quite fair. We split the bruschetta salad.. it was HUGE!! Very fresh with a wonderful, light dressing. The cheesy bread that comes with this salad is very good. Interestingly, it is served under the salad. For our entrée, we split the meatball lasagna. Again, a huge single portion, so splitting it was perfect. We have many terrific restaurants around us - Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake. However, this was one of the finest Italian meals we have had anywhere, including Little Italy in Boston. Everything was so flavorful and hearty. The garlic toast served with the lasagna was also excellent. By the way, the old-fashioned with Makers Mark bourbon was superb as well. Based on our first-time experience, there is nothing NOT to like about this establishment. I just wish the portions weren't so generous so that we might have had room for the coconut cream pie. One of my favorite restaurants!!! It is always busy but always worth the wait! Our usual go to is a Z Salad (the figs and pistachios MAKE the salad) and a Mighty Quinn pizza on a gluten free crust (my wife is a Celiac). Came here for dinner on Friday after work. It's a small restaurant in downtown Rockwall. There was a 45 min wait around 5:20, so I recommend going early. Service was a little slow, but they were working fast for the crowd. No one working was just standing around. We got lucky and got to sit at the bar. We tried the bruschetta board was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the Gorgonzola, but only because I don't care for blue cheese, but the Mozzarella and Brie were great. I love the toppings on them. Pork chop was cooked perfectly and I loved the broccolini. Can we talk about the lobster risotto? Oh my. SO RICH and savory. The regulars, who come there often, that we spoke with were super friendly. The couple next to us shared that on Tuesday's they have a special for wine, pizza, and salad for $30. We started with stuffed gnocchi which was really tasty. The ambiance feels more like a see or be seen type vibe, if you're into that kind of vibe. The service as ok. I ordered a pizza because I figured that was a safe bet and it was ok. I've heard some horror stories about their crab dip. I don't get the hype about this place. It's located downtown Rockwall so parking seems like hit or miss depending on what's going on downtown. All in all the best things about the meal shouldn't be the appetizer and the Aperol spritz. Sometimes they are so busy that they don't get the food to the table in time for all in our party to eat together. That was the last time we ate inside the restaurant, 3 years ago! I had ordered a Caesar salad with a side of salmon and it never made it to the table. I regularly order take out, so I no longer have that problem. I would like to see some simplified options on the menu. I've traveled to several countries around the world and most often I see that the most popular dishes are always simple and clean. I went for the steak. My date went for the pizza. We were both satisfied. The steak was well cooked, a nice medium well. It had a nice sear and was lightly seasoned. However, and I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, it was topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms, and sun dried tomatoes. I would have liked something green (something firm like fresh green beans, or grilled asparagus) on my plate, though. The pizza was pretty good. The crust was tasty but I did think the pepperoni was a tad too salty. My date finished the whole thing. I haven't seen her eat that much (relatively) since she was a little girl. The restaurant has the potential to be loud but they've added some baffles in the ceiling. Our fellow diners weren't too crazy, though and the noise level was comfortable. Love the evening vibe. The blue claw crab appetizer dip was sweet and yummy. Good for sharing with 2-3 people. The pizza was a hit. I ordered the wood roasted salmon.. simple and tasty. Zanata is the spot to go in Rockwall if you want upscale food in a casual rustic setting. The bar area is nice if you want to just have drinks or get a quick bite to eat but seating is limited so plan on arriving early if you want to get a seat. The pizzas here are very good - my favorite is the San Jacinto with a caprese salad. They also have upscale entree selections to choose from. Be forewarned though, acoustics in the restaurant make it on the loud side when the restaurant is at capacity so if you're looking for something quiet and intimate, this will not be the place. Wow what a find this place is!! We came to town to eat at another mom and pop but they aren't open on Sunday so we ended up at Zanata. Honestly this was a pleasant surprise. We arrived right at 5 o'clock and we're probably seated only to find out that apparently they get very crowded as it neared 530 there was quite a wait . I had the meatballs which were plenty for me, because we also shared the crab dip which came with lots of great bread. Everything is made from scratch and cooked in a brick oven, which sends it to a whole Other level. we happen to be here on Sunday and found out that bottles of wine or half price so that was another pleasant surprise Now it's gonna be real hard not to come here when I'm in town after my experience, it was great l!! We found Zanata on a whim as the nearby burger place we wanted to try was closed on Sunday. I have never been more grateful to accidentally try a restaurant! The ambience is cozy and can be dressed up or down. Be prepared for a bit of a wait. My only complaint was the slow service. Our waiter was not very attentive and we found ourselves without water refills for extended periods of time. I was preparing to give this place three stars UNTIL I TASTED THE FOOD. WOW. Talk about a redemption story. Every single item we had here was incredible. One of the best restaurants I've been to in ages! The pizza is so yummy and the dough tastes fresh and handmade. The chorizo is legitimately some of the best I've ever had. My husband got the pizza with chorizo and I will absolutely be doing the same next time -- im telling you it was insane. The blue crab dip was the perfect texture with good pieces of meat throughout. Pretty filling for three people! A great portion. I was going back and forth about ordering a dessert and I'm so glad we did! The bananas foster was seriously one of the best desserts I've ever had.
