This was a cute town square restaurant with a great wait staff and fun menu. The blue crab dip was fantastic! As were the sangrias! Pizza was good and the salads and sandwiches also very good. We are from Waxahachie and went to Zanata's Tuesday Aug 29, 2017 at the urging of our best friends in Rockwall and had an incredible experience. It was their 'pizza and wine' night (unknown before we got there) so there was a 30 minute wait to get in, but once seated we received excellent and attentive service from our server, Jessica, and the food was superb. We split a caesar salad and a pizza with a bottle of wine (half of which we ended up taking home) and a dessert and the whole tab came to just a bit under $40. It was a great value and great food and service. The place is LOUD but very energetic and friendly. We will certainly be back! read more

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Rockwall! My husband and I go weekly and sometimes twice a week. Weekly specials are posted online and are always to die for!! I love the seasonal cocktails and their sangria is fruity and refreshing! We went last night for my wife's birthday and none of us had been there before. The Items from the entrées were a bit pricy, but probably not for the usual Rockwall crowd. The pizzas were very reasonable in my opinion as they feed two. My daughter was with us so we ordered two pizzas with a fondue appetizer. The fondue was gouda and goat cheese, and it tasted so good I wanted to drink it out of the little metal bowl. We got the Standard pizza with cheese, tomato, and a bit of basil and the Agean with spinach, artichoke, and mushrooms. The standard was good and lived up to its name. I really liked the Agean, but I wanted to like it more. It seemed off because of the mushrooms, which tasted pickled, had a sweet taste that did not quite flow. The atmosphere was loud, but that had to do with the crowd as Zanata seems to be the happening place in town. The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable on the menu. I would definitely come back to try another pizza, but be warned they use fire roasted ovens and the pizzas do not come out quick. Make sure you bring someone you want to talk to. Upon the recommend of my sister we selected Zanata for a nice lunch. There were several tables open upon our arrival. We were not acknowledged by anyone. We finally had to seat ourselves. After 15 minutes we were finally acknowledged by a sarcastic bartender/server that obviously did want to leave chatting with her fellow staff to take our order. We placed our order for the appetizers and our entree at same time, requesting that the appetizers please be served first. Well that set the bartender off with more sarcasm. We waited another 20 minutes to inquire about our appetizers for Blue Crab Dip and the hummus/pimento cheese with flat bread. Waitress again, sarcastically replied with Don't worry about it, coming up and I will get it when done. Finally our appetizers arrived. We continue to wait for the pre-made tomato basil soup and salads that should not be too complicated. Upon our next inquiry, waitress said, don't worry about it! I have it in and when it is done I will get it out. At this point we felt offended by the fact that the bartender/waitress was annoyed by our order. 40 minutes later, 2 of us chose to leave after the rude responses. The manager came out to our mother and other sister to inform them that he would have to throw out our food and was also rude. The Blue Crab Dip was loved by those who tried it. The Hummus is very bland. Pimento Cheese was pretty good with the flat bread. Never had a chance to try our entrees and nor did we want to after the rude server and manager. read more

This is absolutely the best restaurant in town. We visit often and have consistently received excellent service as well as first-rate food. We have tried just about everything: surf, turf, pizza, salads, etc. and love it all! Right now some of our favorites are: Appetizer - The crab stuffed avocado is wonderful. A little is all you need so we order this when we have at least 4 people to split it. It is very rich...a real treat Salad - All the salads are large and crowd pleasing! We all have our favorites but the spinach salad makes everyone happy so that is the one we usually order. I love the dressing, champagne vinaigrette I believe. Entree - The Steak Diane is divine. Red meat is not usually my choice but this is truly exceptional. The sauce is perfect. Dessert - Oh my word! The bananas foster. We will go just for dessert sometime because we are always to full to finish this but it is incredible. If I had one complaint it would be that it is very loud, but we always have a great time in spite of the noise. read more

So where do I start. I see all these great reviews for Zanata in Rockwall but my experience has not been so good. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. I usually don't like to post anything negative unless I have had two bad experiences.... Experience #1 - Pepperoni Pizza to go. I opened the box and the pizza looked like it was going to be really good. It looked delicious and it tasted pretty decent but it was soggy and doughy. I guess it needed to be in the oven a little longer. I put it in my oven for 10 minutes and then it tasted great. Experience #2 - Z Burger and Tuscan Chicken Salad to go. The burger was pretty nasty. I don't know how they cook the meat but it seemed like it was steamed and not grilled. There was zero taste, the cheese was watery, just not good at all. I would not order a burger here. The Tuscan Chicken Salad was mediocre. There was not much chicken salad but there were huge slices of tomatoes. I guess they should call it a tomato sandwich. They should probably focus on getting more chicken in the sandwich and less of the other stuff. I will say the chips were really good and I also enjoyed the sweet pickles. I think next time, I will have to eat in the restaurant and see if I have a different experience. So far it has not been good but I will give it one more shot. read more

I don't get back to Big D much these days and, when I do, I rarely make it to Rockwall. But since we were going to spend the evening karaoke-ing at the Scoreboard we decided it would be a smart idea to get some food in our bellies. The birthday girl wanted Zanata so that's where we went. First off, holy shit this place gets packed OUT. We got there fairly early (around 630pm maybe?) and it was a 40 minute wait. The bar and the waiting chairs were also packed. There was literally nowhere to stand that you weren't in the way of other people or waitstaff. Quite annoying at first, but once I got a magical dirty martini made by the awesome bartender (who apparently has won awards for his bartending prowess), I was perfectly content to sit on the window ledge and shoot the shit. Finally we got seated and got to order some food! Since we were in a hurry we just ordered everything all at once so we could eat and get out. After reading my girl Kathryn D's review, I decided I MUST have the blue crab dip. Luckily my friend's hubby also eats meat and seafood so he said he would split it with me. He ordered the pizza with garlic, tomato sauce, pepperoni (can't remember the name) and we split that too. So the crab dip. Like for realz y'all, it really was like crack on bread and crackers. Creamy, full of huge chunks of crab, scooped up with crackers, bread, or your fork. I literally ate the rest directly off my fork and would have eaten it face first right from the dish if I could have. Pizzas are fired in their super fancy high degree wood-fired oven so the entire place smelled like yummy fired pizzas. The pizza we got was pretty good, although it is the pizza that gets a bit of the soggy crust in the middle rather than being all crispy. I don't have a problem with that when the ingredients are fresh though - and when there are huge chunks of garlic all over it. There can NEVER be too much garlic!! Waiter was totally on board with us being in a slight hurry and he was pleased to do what he could to help out. Other waiters/waitresses were friendly throughout our wait time. And some of these waiters are pretty cute so you can waste some time staring at them while you drink your martini and sharpen your cougar claws. Ahem. Just sayin'. Next time I'm in Rockwall I'm coming back to Zanata and getting that blue crab dip all for myself!! read more

My wife and I always want to try something new in Rockwall but end up at Zanata every time. We try to discuss what our favourite pizza is, since we've tried them all, but can never come to a conclusion. Every meal is out of this world and the specials are like Christmas because you never know what it's going to be each day but it's always a delicious surprise. We went for dinner but this is really not a "dinner" place if you are looking for a full course meal. Nor is it Italian, just Italian flavored. It is more of an upscale late night or brunch college environment. And quiet this place is NOT. The pizza is GREAT; but, don't be expecting Pizza Hut pizza--it is better. The Tuscan plate, if you like salami's, is good, and the spinach salad (I've forgotten their fancy name for it) is excellent and generous. The place is a bit pricey but that goes with the atmosphere they provide. And our waiter service was very good. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves, in a throw-back to college days sort of way. Probably we would only go back if we were in a "mood" but that is just our taste. My boyfriend and I went here for the first time on a Sunday evening and there was about a 30 min. wait. It was pretty busy, which is usually a good thing, especially for the size of the place. Such a nice vibe, atmosphere and service from the second we walked in. I've never been a big "dip" person when it came to appetizers but I read so many reviews on here talking about the blue crab dip and it was out of this world! I would go back there just for this dish. I ordered the pumpkin raviolis and my boyfriend ordered the chicken Alfredo llanito. His dish was pretty tasty. Mine was a bit on the sweet side and for ravioli, too sweet for my liking. The sauce was creamy and the chicken was tender but the raviolis were stuffed with pumpkin and it threw me off. So sweet that I lost my appetite to try any of their desserts. All in all, I would go back and give another entree a try and because it was a very relaxing and pleasant night out. read more

A very special place to enjoy a variety of food and drink which creates a real ambiance for a special celebration. The staff is great and the food was amazing. The wait was not very long and we were able to take our drinks outside and sit in the shade in the square...a beautiful setting for a special evening. Great brick oven pizza ! Their cesar salad is really yummy ! It's huge so share with a friend. The dressing has a zing to it that other cesar salads I've tried don't . Plus they use prosciutto in it . It's in the heart of old downtown Rockwall so parking is a bit of a pain when they are busy . One of the places you have to try if your in Rockwall . read more

I really really like the food and decor of Zanata's. My problem with the restaurant is it is slow. I waited 40 minutes for a salad which is hard to do during your lunch hour. The noise level is also a problem. It can be very loud in there at times. Those 2 issues is what keeps this from getting a perfect score in my book read more

Food is good, but the wait time is horrible. Our most recent trip we were told 5 mins for a table and after an hour, we left.

Waiting time was less than told upon arrival. This was a last minute change in eating plans and we were not disappointed. The food was great including the service and atmosphere. Being new to the neighborhood, Zanata's came highly recommended and we were anxious to like it. During the holiday season it was impossible to get in the door without a 30 min+ wait. When we DID get in, around March, the service was so-so, inattentive, and slow. The menu looked tasty but had many repeats- enough with the figs already! We chalked it up to an off night. In May, I returned with my mother. Again, the service was inattentive, the menu, unchanged. The food was okay, but the staff seemed bored and left us a little lackluster as well. My last visit was in late July with a friend who was visiting the square for the first time. We arrived after 2pm and were handed a LUNCH menu ( a smaller, abbreviated version of the dinner, really, with the addition of a few sandwiches). Another bored waiter, in a fairly empty room, who took 20 minutes to serve drinks and then returned with a flourish to announce that the lunch menu had expired and that we would now be working from the DINNER menu.... We told the manager we'd decided to go down the block to the Route 66 BBQ and get a pulled pork sandwich, okra and a happy smile instead. That's what we did and we aren't looking back! read more

Last night was my third visit to Zanata. We enjoyed our dinning experience & the extra treat of seeing the beautiful Blood Moon rising in the night sky as we left the restaurant. Each time I order the Blue Crab Dip served with soft fresh bread & also a crisp flat bread. It is so delicious! The pizza's are so wonderful that I find it too hard to order anything but pizza. My favorite is The Mighty Quinn. They also offer excellent wine & beer on tap choices. The servers have always been warm & friendly. The only downside to dinning at Zanata is that it can be a bit loud at times, mostly due to happy dinners enjoying good food & good company. read more
