I love Zara Hair Braiding. I have been coming here for years and as my personal style has evolved, the owner and stylists have consistently made an effort to suggest new and innovative braid styles to give me some variety. I also get custom colors and that right there is a GAME CHANGER! I'll attach some photos, but I'm truly one of those people that when I find places that can grow with me, I stay a loyal customer. This shop will take advantage of Dads or any person who doesn't directly watch their entire process. I sent my 10 year old daughter and specifically asked for them to not add weave or scissors. My daughter told me they used scissors, which I brushed off until my daughter's hair started following out 2 days later.At that point it was apparent that they added weave to her hair. No one asked me if it was okay they did whatever they wanted to in order to make her hairstyle look the way they wanted it to. After speaking with the manager she apologized for them going against my wishes and offered me $40 off my next service for her "if I could trust them again". My daughter will never be going back because I cannot trust them when they directly go against what I asked them to do and you tried to make her hair more nice but instead it all falls out 2 days later anyways. $40 off next service when this service was not done correctly and did not last for it being over $200. I need a refund. DO NOT SEND YOU NATURALLY HAIR CHILDREN HERE! read more

I'm in complete disbelief of my experience with Zara's. I've been visiting this salon for years. I must share my experience not only to help other potential customers save their HARD earned money, but also to expose this business owner as I feel they have been ripping Black women for a while. I mistakenly scheduled it for the wrong day. I immediately canceled that appointment, and scheduled another appointment. I also immediately called the owner, she finally answered after my 7th call and I advised her, hey I just canceled an appointment, but you can keep the deposit along with the other one because my service is 250. I paid two separate deposits of $100. So, the owner who calls herself "Zee" advised me that she only saw one deposit at the time asks were would handle later as it would probably arrive then. I arrive at my hair appointment the next day scheduled at 10:45am. I get there, the braider ask, where's your hair. I said Zee advised that you have the hair here. I had called the previous day for hair buying suggestions. They both spoke in their language then back at me and said, no you have to buy the hair from across the street. They don't open until 12:00. So here we are, already unprofessional! Of course, my hair needs braiding, that's why I'm here, so I stay, wait for the store to open and go back. The braider tells me, it will be 350 because you want the length. I told her, the length don't matter to me, I just don't want it short. She said with micro it's always shorter so if you want it longer it will be 350. So, I advise her if the style is beautiful and long, I'll pay the 350, no problem. The owner, Zee then comes in to make deliveries. My braider and myself pull her to the side, I show her my bank account showing the two separate deductions for 100 dollars. She said well it still only shows one deposit. I understood that and said let me sends you a screenshot showing the deductions from my account. They have the money. Everyone knows they take that deposit fast as hell but never give it back right away. So she leaves the shop. The braider finishes my hair then says call Zee because instead of 150 (100 for the so-called length and 50 for the remaining balance after they've taken $200 for the deposit) they were wanting me to pay an additional $250. So I call the lady, she tells me yeah pay the 250 and we'll reimburse you a $100 if the deposit you paid is returned. Of course this doesn't work for me, and I'm sure for anyone. I had already seen the girl before me be charged $480 for a style she thought was 350. She had to call the owner too and explain she was a long time customer and have always paid $350. So I knew I wasn't gonna let them rob me the way they had just robbed this lady. Her hair was cute but no where near worth $480. To be honest, her braid work wasn't worth $350 either. Idid not pay the extra $100 because I knew the initial 100 was not going to be returned due to cancellation. The owner threaten to call the cops and cut the hair out my head. I told her I'm willing to pay the $350, but this style is not worth 350, the length is mid back, I'll pay that but I refuse to give you an additional 100 for a deposit that hasn't been returned. I called the owner the next day as a courtesy and advised the money was still deducted from my account and had not been returned to me. I advised her if the bank returned it later, I would make sure to send it back to her. I told her I would NEVER return to her shop for services again. They tried to justify charging me 350 for this style, when I advised it wasn't worth it as the length is only midback, she tried to shame me and say well your hair was short so we had to charge. Guys, my hair is short but no where near short short. They are the real thieves.Save your money for a professional shop that doesn't use their language as a weapon against customers. This place will rip you off! I no longer have any respect for the owner. She's a professional liar. read more

1/13/2025 I receive the worst service ever. Initially I called in to set a appointment. My appointment was set at 10:30. when I arrive, I was supposed to have medium knotless spray is done. I was quoted for $300. I decided to get smedium and my hair wash. They proceeded to do my hair and wash my hair. midway through the hairstyle I realized I noticed that they were not doing my hair correctly and they were doing a poorly job. At this point,. The parts were incorrect, the middle part wasn't in. The middle of my head.The braids were extremely tiny. They hair braid itself was completely tiny as if they were saving hair on each braid. At this time she suggested with my hair incomplete I come banot being done that I pay full price and come back and they fix it tomorrow, but at this time I would leave in my full hair would be incomplete so she wanted me to pay $350 and come back tomorrow so they can redo my hair now let's get this straight. My hair was not completed so I was technically going home with an incomplete hairstyle the braids with unbraided at the end And they wanted me to pay in full. I suggested that I pay half today and half the next day when I come in and have them finish my hair, they didn't want that the and the cops were called. They wanted me to pay the service in full when my hair wasn't completed. They cut out myhair yes, They cut the the braids out and wanted me to pay for the full service.when the officer arrived, he suggested I pay for the service full and now I'm disputing it with my bank this was a Horrible experience, This is a horrible business owner. She lied to the police and she told them that my hair was 95% complete. My hair was not 95% complete possibly 60% complete with them having to redo that my entire head the next day this is a horrible establishment. I wouldn't suggest anyone to go here for services. I booked an appointment for 7/7 at 1PM. It was almost 2:30 when I finally got in the chair. I had already shampooed, conditioned, and blow dried my hair before I got there. Then a stylist blow dried my hair again, trying to make it silky straight. I said no less than three times, "Ouch, that ish is too hot!" That blow dryer was too close to my scalp. I hope I don't have heat damage. The cornrows are entirely TOO TIGHT! I have pictures of my skin being entirely too snug. Saturday morning, I noticed that I had a few small red patches around my hairline. I called Zara Saturday morning and let her know that these were too tight. She told me I could come back in on Wednesday. I'll be bald by then! I took the braids down myself Saturday night. I put some hydrocortisone on the red patches, and I pray the damage isn't permanent. $120 down the drain. Never again. read more

If I could give the shop a zero, I would. Actually I would say a half a star because at least they were funny and entertaining while they were braiding my hair. If only I had gone for a standup routine instead of quality service... My hair is short. I told them this well before my appointment because I wasn't sure if I should just wait a month or so before getting my hair braided. I was told that that would not be a problem. But when I got to the shop it was pretty clear that they were a one trick pony type of shop, and would rather yank my hair out than simply say - this is harder than expected and we would be more comfortable braiding your hair when you have a little more length. 1. My scalp was on fire. That's the best way that I could explain it. They braided my hair so tight that I was in tears not once, but twice during the process. Their solution wasn't to actually braid less tight, but instead to tell me to breathe. When she told me that I had 10 more braids left I asked her to please braid it larger so that we could wrap this up. She did not. 2. The job took about two hours longer than they initially quoted me, and that was with four people braiding working on my hair at one time. At minimum I would have two while a couple would stop to work on someone else or go grab food. They spent more time talking amongst each other and laughing than actually focusing on doing the work. 3. The work was expensive given the experience and the quality. They quoted me $300 for goddess braids. I won't say that it's the most expensive that I've ever seen them, but as another review were stated they don't even offer you water in the shop. So you're sitting there for 6 to 7 hours, crying through the pain, and not even offered a bag of peanuts. 4. I was willing to pay because the bottom line is that they did provide a service whether I liked it or not. And after four days, the back row of my hair started to come out and I'm tempted to take the braids in the front out because they're still incredibly tight. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. You couldn't pay me to return to the shop. They were incredibly unprofessional, the pain was excruciating, and the pricing was insane. I don't know how anyone would subject themselves to it but I know for sure I will never do it again. Do you self a favor, stay as far away from the shop as possible. HEED THE WARNING: I got a blowout. She asked if I wanted a trim. I said sure. She trimmed one inch (her own estimate). Charged $35 and called it a "haircut." Admittedly I did not ask the price nor did she tell me the price of the trim. But let's just be real for just 2 minutes - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND thinks it's a $35 trim?? One inch is not a haircut and they are "hairstylists" - they know thatI said I don't think I should have to pay that price. The lady admitted she should have told me and admitted the price was high for what she did but "that's what is in the system." Y'all know the type. Can't / don't want to apply common sense or service. Would rather stand 10 toes down on something she didn't even fully agree with. She ends up calling the owner, who does not wish to talk to me although I offered. I step outside to get on the phone to ask someone the best thing to do. She calls the police. The whole situation was soooo so tacky I could hardly believe I was a part of it. Even the police officer was wondering why he was there because at that point I was literally sitting in the shop asking the person who did my hair to "ring it up" but she said, "we'll just wait for the police to get here." Incredible. Over $35! It's the principle of the thing - the "haircut" could have been discounted even a BIT to meet me in the land of common sense! Ive been going to Zara since 2018 and It's always a great style when I leave. Even when I want to try a new braided style, then I don't like the style. The service I received was unacceptable. After being swayed against getting bomb twists because they would take 8 hours and I had limited time (4-5 hours), goddess locs were recommended instead. Those ended up taking 8.5 hours, were done poorly and began unraveling just hours after I left the shop. I reached out to Zara Hair Braiding immediately with photos and received an apology. A refund was then promised but never received. I was traveling for work so needed to have my hair fixed and the stylist in NY was appalled at what had been done to my hair. She assumed that the locs had been in for months, when in fact it had only been 2 days, and hoped that I wouldn't have any hair loss when the locs were taken down. (She said it felt like my hair had been glued at the ends.) This fix took 4 hours. When I returned to LA, I immediately went to my usual stylist to have the locs taken out, only to confirm that the synthetic hair had been glued to my real hair at the ends. My stylist and another stylist in the salon tried various methods to undo the locs, but ultimately had to cut the ends, which included my real hair. I lost approximately 3 inches, and will have to lose even more when I get my hair trimmed to even it out. The stylists at Zara braided my real into micro braids which both the NY and LA salons said is extremely damaging to your hair. Because the braids were so tiny, my hair was knotted and tangled, which caused me even more hair loss, and made the take-down process another 6 hours. To add to that, I now have two bald spots on the right side of my head due to how the locs were installed. I called Zenab to let her know about my hair damage and she said that they have their own way of taking down the style. Whether this is true or not, I am not local to Atlanta and Zenab knew I would not be returning to the shop to have my hair taken down. It feels as if this fact is why my hair was treated so poorly. Since I was traveling, I wouldn't be able to return to the shop for proper recourse. I would strongly advise against anyone ever going to this salon. read more

I will never return to Zara Hair Braiding! The woman who did my hair was very rough. She tangled my hair when washing it and then tried to detangle it from roots to ends. I had to stop her and detangle it myself so that she didn't pull my hair out. I brought a few of my own products because I have a gluten allergy and many products have wheat protein or aminos, which burn my skin and scalp. She was fine with using them at the shampoo bowl, but was annoyed when I asked to read the bottles of the products she had. She then began applying products without saying anything. I caught her before she sprayed finishing sheen on my hair and she was so annoyed when I asked to check it, which I had to do twice before she gave me the bottle. My hair looks good, but it was not worth the pain and frustration. I seriously hope the damage she did is minimal. Not worth it at all! read more

Horribly disappointed!!!!...had high expectations, in terms of punctuality and quality of service provided. My appointment time was quoted from 11:30-3:30. My hair braiding started at 12:30. After an hour and a half, I was told another stylist would be finishing me (which was ok with me). After waiting TWO WHOLE HOURS, that stylist finally got to me. By that time, it was close to 4:00 and I wasn't even close to half way done. If my hair wasn't a partially braided mess, I would have walked out. My hair wasn't finished until after 9:00 pm....over 9 and a half hours after starting and 5 and a half after my quoted end time!! A young lady that had a 2:00 appt (who wasn't even acknowledged when she walked in and eventually walked out) told me that she's been there 3 times previously and her experience was totally different. Apparently, the owner wasn't there and she didn't recognize any of the staff. I love and support black owned businesses and I sincerely hope this one gets back on track. Truly protective styling! Used great products and took care in ensuring edges were not tight,

Every time I look in the mirror at these Senegalese twists I get annoyed. There were two different people working on my head and you can definitely tell the difference. The first person did a great job and started some time before the second person came along. She was fast and the twists were neat and small like I wanted them. She mainly did the front part. I'm not sure if the second person ever did twists before by the way that her sections turned out. When I left the shop my hair was pulled back, so I couldn't see the issues at first. The twists from the second person were bigger, loose, and sloppy. My head looks too full because of her sections. When I noticed this I could not  ask them to fix it because I was leaving to go out of town for my mother's wedding. I figured twists would be more fitting for a beach wedding, but I'm mad I got these and spent over $200 since I gave both of them a tip. I've only had them for a little over a week and I want them out now. I will probably keep them in until next week so that I don't completely waste my money. I will not return here or recommend this shop to anyone. I've had twists too many times to know that this is not how they are supposed to look. read more

This is the worst experience that I have had to date. I took my granddaughter to the shop to get her hair twisted. The appointment was for 8:00am. The owner (Zara) finally showed up at 8:45am. We entered the shop and had to walk over a puddle of urine that was pooled at the font door. Once we entered there was a dog running around the shop. The dog quickly proceeded to jump on my granddaughter who happens to be allergic to dogs. The owner made no attempt to calm the dog down. The owner proceeded to wash and blow dry my granddaughter's when another women showed up and was screaming at the top of her lungs. They were obviously upset about something and the screaming continued by both women both inside and outside of the shop. In the meantime, the owner's daughter (Z) showed up and seemed to be professional so we stayed. I repeatedly asked her to not twist her hair to tightly. She promised that she would not. Also, by the way, I was charged $180 (which was more that what Zara had quoted). Zara quoted 4 hours and it took 7 hours. In the end, the twist was way to tight. That night my granddaughters head was red and swollen. She was in so much pain we had to take the braids out. I called Z the next day and told her about the issue. She only offered what I can tell was bad advise to rectify the situation. Aside from the lost time and the lost money, I only hope that my granddaughter will not have any permanent damage to her hair follicles. My advise to anyone and everyone is to stay away from this business!!!!! read more

This past week I got my hair done in Senegalese twists down to my mid-back. I would rate the work completed by the stylists a 5. However, I gave an overall rating of a 3. The 3 is for the fact that not one stylist was wearing a mask. Upon entry into the salon they take your temperature and request you wash your hands which I thought was good. However, I noticed that a customer who was getting their hair done also did not have a mask. Out of the 6 total people in the salon at the time only I was wearing a mask. My appt lasted for about 5.5 hours and I was not once offered a bottle of water or any kind of beverage. I sat as my hair got done and the stylists talked amongst each other and on their phones having several conversations through out the 5.5 hours. In this day and age I expect more from a hair salon and wish black hair salons wouldn't be so stereotypical. Again, quality of the final product is a 5, but overall customer service can be better. read more

I got my hair braided yesterday by Zara Herself. I love my hair and its so neat and not tight. Her salon was very clean and comfy. The workers kept a smile and very friendly. Her price were good for the style I got. I will go back to her in 3/4 weeks. Thank You Zara! read more
