Thanks to Yelp I FINALLY got to experience this Deep Ellum gem! Such a quaint, diverse and eclectic restaurant and the staff was just wonderful, especially the owner. Welcomed with a warm introduction and ready to feed us. We started with the hot, fresh, fried pita bread. Oh my gosh! If I could have that everyday, with all of my dishes, it would be the best! We had it with the spicy hummus, beet hummus and olive oil. I think I ate a basket and a half LOL, followed by the phyllo and cheese cigars. Cute and yummy! The entree, family style of course. Lamb shank pieces, on a bed of aromatic, fragrant beef & raisin rice. Hot and fresh and A LOT of food! The flavor was so different and the raisins in the rice added that slightly sweet hint. Now, it's 5:30pm-6:30pm Happy Hour that has the half-off tapas, which was the best part of this restaurant! The food, don't get me wrong, is pretty great, but the tapas sizes are small, and the cocktails/drinks are relatively expensive. Highly recommend the falafel, arnabeet, cheese cigars, hummus (free with check-in on Yelp), sweet kibbeh, and grape leaves. Have also have some of their other tapas like the flatbreads, but they weren't as good. I'd ask your server for recommendations! They're always very knowledgable and friendly, and have always given us good advice. A few points off because it's usually pretty cold in the restaurant, especially during the winter, since they're linked with a hookah area next door that is open. After reading good reviews , wanted to give this place a shot while visiting town on business. Open late for food and is in the deep elm district, which is known for bars but average bar food restaurants. This place serves Lebanese food , and wanted to get pick up . When you first walk in this place has 2 section : a smoking/hookah lounge when they serve alcohol and another nonsmoking restaurant / bar section. Naturally , I went to the nonsmoking section and sat at the bar to order food to go . The bar tender that night , named " my " , was really helpful in picking popular items . picked falafel sandwich, fattoush and meat shawarma . I was pleasantly surprised; the Food tasted good all across. Shawarma was fresh ; tasted authentic, the same can be said abt the falafel and fattoush salad . While waiting for the for my food I had a Lebanese Pilsner beer and had the chance to watch the bar in action . One bar tender was fast enough to serve drinks for every customer in that place . Bartender/waitress is sweet, helpful, funny, engaging, and friendly. We had hookah but I decided not to join in. It smelled good though. The lemonade was non alcoholic and whatever she did to it made it super yummy. The cheese cigars were not that great as they were slightly salty. But that may be the type of cheese. We came on a Friday night, the dining room had a few tables seated and the enclosed patio area was mostly full. We were promptly greeted and seated by the hostess. A female server stopped by to take our food and drink orders, we decided to start with baba ghanoush then ordered the deconstructed beef shawarma and moussaka as mains. Shortly after a guy delivered the baba ghanoush and some zatar with ONE piece of pita. He was clearly in a hurry, he put the food down and left without a word. Weird. Minutes later the same guy returned with our mains. We thought there should have been more time between the app and mains but oh well, what are you gonna do? The guy was on the verge of leaving without a word again but we quickly asked for more pita. The female server stopped by to ask if everything was okay. That was literally the last time we talked to her! We finished our meal and sat for 10 minutes waiting for the server to ask if we are finished and provide the check...she never showed. A few more minutes went and stopped the person filling people's water. She nodded but no one ever came with the check. Annoying. We waved down the the guy delivering people's food, he looked around like "where in the hell is your server," but agreed to bring us the check and a to go box. Eventually the server came by to apologize. She seemed like a nice person and it was good that she recognized the issue. Simple but chic with the clay pottery wall display and the chandeliers. The ambiance made me feel as I was in a swanky restaurant in Lebanon. The following were tapas shared among 3 people: - Pita Bread with Zatar dipping sauce: I typically stray away from the complimentary bread but I highly encourage you to have some! Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The best I've had so far. The sauce is also amazing. Remind yourself to hold yourself back so you save room for your ordered food - Fish Chips: my favorite tapas that was ordered. Whole baby sardines battered and fried to savory perfection. - Beef Shawarma Flatbread: hearty with plenty of toppings but don't feel heavy eating - Moussaka: warm and comforting - Muhammara: roasted red pepper dip - Arnabeet: I needed a side of vegetables - Sambousek: beef samosas that were crispy on the outside filled with meaty goodness I asked the waiter for recommendations on dessert. He pointed me towards the Knefeh which he described as the Lebanese's take on a cheesecake. My friends... its BETTER. The waiter you want is Sal. He was working Saturday night and was fun, respectful, checked up on us often and made us feel extremely welcomed. He offered suggestions of what to eat and where to go in town and they were all great options. The food was delicious. Excellent portions for a more than reasonable price. I was fortunate enough to take part in the soft opening of this beautiful new restaurant in Deep Ellum and, let me tell you, it's one of my new favorite places! The restaurant itself is incredibly spacious, with the dining area and bar on the left and the hookah lounge on the right. The decor is beautiful...very hip, chic, yet welcoming. Speaking of welcoming, the staff was incredible. Everyone was so attentive, professional, and I loved seeing them work more as a team instead of a "that's my table" mindset. Ok, on to the good stuff...the drinks and food! The drink menu is incredibly unique with even a few traditional Lebanese liquors in some of the cocktails. Make sure you ask your server if you're unsure about something listed, but I encourage you to be open minded and try something you wouldn't find in your local bar...that's what makes things fun after all. We were able to try a variety of the appetizers including the tabouli, the hummus (both the red beet and the traditional), the watermelon/grilled halloumi cheese with balsamic, the sambousek, the fatayer, and the baba ghannouj...with FRESH pita y'all! I honestly can't tell you which one I like the most, just order them all, you can't go wrong I promise! For our main course, we were able to sample the Shish Taouk (grilled chicken served with the most amazing garlic cream on the side), the Lahem Meshweh (grilled New York strip with delicious fingerling potatoes), and the Samkeh Harra (white fish baked in tomato, tahini, bell pepper, and cilantro ratatouille). I was pleasantly surprised by the Samkeh Harra and definitely recommend this if you're interested in a fish dish. Just when I thought we couldn't possibly eat anymore, they brought us dessert...and who am I to say no to a delicious warm chocolate bundt cake served with pistachio ice cream??? I didn't regret a bite! After dinner, we got to check out the hookah lounge and enjoyed a lemon & mint hookah paired with a yummy Beez Knees cocktail. Such a great combo....I highly recommend it! We were so excited to try this place based on reviews. We are foodies and travel all over the country trying everything, especially Mediterranean food. Lebanese being our favorite. This was listed as a top 5 in Dallas, and I'm sorry to say it shouldn't have been. I feel like it gets a lot of hype due the Hookah lounge. The decor was a bit random. Random clay pots on wall, a few mandalas, a drum and your typical generic chandeliers. It just seemed like someone haphazardly threw stuff on a wall. The food was fresh, but sort of small portions. Pita was tortilla thin & dry. All meats served also seemed dry & were small portions. The rice was dry and not very flavorful. cheese cigars were ok. For a Sunday at 6pm, the food should have been fresher. The delish items were the falafels and Rocca Salad. The hummus sampler good, smooth & fresh. The service was good but could have been more attentive; it felt like the server was more focused on the Hookah lounge side. I'll come back, but have lower expectations. read more

I came here because it was close to where I lived. The food was very very good. I mean very good because I love Mediterranean food. I ordered a hookah which was really good as well. The service was exceptional, however there was one server, It wasn't a server that was serving my food but the guy that was bringing around coal. He asked me if I was receiving unemployment benefits? I was a little taken back by that because for one you don't ask customers stuff like that. I don't know if it had anything to do with me being black and having money. After trying to solve the JFK murder, a group of friends and I were starving! We landed here for two reasons, no wait and good reviews. The five of us were seated immediately. We decided to go with the hookah lounge area though none of us were smoking hookah. The lounge area was perfect, peaceful, and open to the fresh air. I had trouble figuring out what to order, so many dishes looked delicious. I ended up ordering the Lebanese breakfast, in which the only item in the description I really recognized was hummus. There were three bowls to dip my warm pitas in, foul moudammas, hummus balila, and labneh. There was a side of garden vegetables, which I didn't really end up eating too much of. My favorite out of the three was the labneh. Just a warning, the Lebanese breakfast is a pretty large portion. I could've easily shared my meal with one other and still been full. Really cool Lebanese restaurant. Food was great, the only complaint I had was that the service was very slow. The hummus duo and pita bread to start with were absolutely amazing. I tried the beet hummus, everyone loved it but I personally don't like beets so it was not for me, but it was beautiful! I had a spicy margarita which had a chili pepper/salt mixture on the rim that perfectly complimented the drink. The falafel basket was SO good, probably my favorite part of the meal and they came in a cute little basket.The family served salad (Fattoush) was very flavorful and fresh. The cheese cigars were really good as well, it would be hard if I had to choose just one appetizer next time. The owner who hosted the yelp event we went to did a great job of explaining how things were served and I could tell he really loved his restaurant and the food that was served! The food.... the food is amazing I have not had a dish that I didn't like. This time around I had the Taco Trio which was a great choice seeing how I couldn't decide on just one option. The Zatar Fries are also sooo good. I love the atmosphere here. Both inside and patio seating are very comfortable. We sat out of the patio since we were also doing hookah, which is also a must try. They have some great hookah flavors. The waitstaff is also very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. My waitress was Lily, and she was amazing. I've passed by this place several times, but It never really caught my attention. I had the oppurtunity to come try it at a yelp event. This was my first time trying lebanese/Mediterranean/middle eastern food and after trying this place I can say I am a fan. To drink I ordered the spicy margarita. It had just the right amount of alcohol and a nice kick. According to their instagram its not on the menu ,but you can order it. I recommended if you like having a little spice in your life. For appetizer I got the hummus duo, pita bread, fattoush salad, cheese cigars, and falafel basket. The beet amd spicy hummus where both delicious and they tasted amazing with the freshly baked pita bread. The dressing on the salad was lemony and vinegary and I LOVED IT. The falafels where nice and crispy and the tahini sauce was delish. Thr cheese cigars where good, but a little on the salty side. For entrees I got a lamb and rice dish and chicken flatbread. The fragrant rice was really good. It had raisins which made it sweet and something else that was crunchy and tasted kinda nutty to me. The lamb was tender ,but I'm just not a fan of the flavor. My favorite entree was definately the chicken flatbread. The service here was also amazing. Everyone waa super friendly and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. Our water was constantltly being refilled without having to ask and we where checked on often. I really loved this places, and I regret not checking it out sooner. This a great spot to come eat and drink with friends. You really can't go wrong with anything in the menu and service is awesome. I've often passed by Zåtar on multiple occasions and never really had the desire to eat there. However, my boyfriend decided we would dine here on Valentine's Day this year. I hadn't looked it up prior to our visit, so I didn't have any real expectations. When you arrive at the restaurant it is split into two sections. One for actual dining and the other for your Hookah experience. I'm assuming they serve food on that side as well. However, since we didn't do any Hookah's on this particular visit. I will only be reviewing the dining on this day. Upon arrival we were seated by a really friendly hostess. We were asked if we would be enjoying any Hookah's on this night and we declined. We were seated in front of the big window where I could people watch. Our waiter could see we were struggling with making a decision and recommended just ordering several small plates. At the time, we were on our 90% plant-based diet and they had plenty of vegan/vegetarian options. We started off with the hummus. So hummus can go one or two ways for me. It can be really good or make me extremely nauseous. It just depends on the texture of it. Luckily, this hummus was perfect. The Moujadara croquettes were next on the list. I remember I kept saying is their ground beef in this? I swear there's ground beef in this. It wasn't. This was probably my favorite options out of the entire bunch. The seasoning, texture, and crunchiness were spot on. Let's talk about the cheese cigars. They were extra gooey with a hint of saltiness. The outer crust had just enough crunch without overpowering the cheesiness. So good. I'm going to have to give a thumbs down to the Falafel Basket. It was my least favorite tapas. I don't know what it was, but it just wasn't that good. I think it may have been overcooked and that was the problem. The Fried Brussels Sprouts were my boyfriend's favorite, but not necessarily mine. It was okay, but I prefer the way, my mom cooks hers. Also, the drinks are a little overpriced in my opinion. Lastly, that chocolate cake is something you have to experience. It was so good. We couldn't finish it. I would say this was a 3.5 visit, however, we had excellent service and the people were really nice. So I bumped it to 4 stars. Go check it out. read more

Great location in Deep Ellum on the corner of Commerce and Malcolm X. I liked the vibe at this place, we sat on the enclosed patio. There are people smoking hookah out there, so if you are sensitive, I would maybe be inside for seating. I think the windows or doors open when the weather is a little warmer, which would be nice. Our server was very attentive. The drinks were good. The food was ok. The hummus seemed bland. Falafel is not my thing, but I tried it anyway, and its still not my thing. The cheese cigars were really good. We also ordered the chicken shawarma flatbread, which I liked but my date did not. I was here for a Yelp Event. I really enjoyed the experience here. Honestly, my most memorable part was the owner telling us about how the restaurants layout and decor relates to Lebanese culture. We were given 2 drink tickets for this event which I ordered the spicy margarita both times since I'm not a big wine person. The spicy margarita had a slight sweet and tangy taste. Those cheese cigar rolls were to die for. I loved the crunch and how everything flowed together in taste. It wasn't as breaded as an American breadstick or cheese stick. I could've eaten them all night The hummus duo-I don't usually eat hummus but I did eat this hummus. It tasted very fresh. I liked the beet hummus but I really loved the other one. I'm a big pita bread fan so having the warm pita bread was a gold star. Lamb with wheat and rice so good! I could've kissed it The rice was sweet but I could also taste all the spices. Very flavorful and delicious. One of our Elites at our table is vegetarian. They took the time out to make her fried cauliflower and rice instead of the lamb. That was so nice of them.
