If you're looking for a fast food place, this is not it. Or I'd suggest doing their drive-thru. I'm one of those people that prefer going in than waiting in the car,. My order of nibblets took about 25 minutes before it was ready. There was no acknowledgement of the long wait time. My fries were a combination of room temperature/soggy and hot/crispy, it also came unseasoned. The nibblets itself was good, the chicken was still somewhat crispy. The prices itself are pretty reasonable if you're getting the meal. read more

Made a return trip to the broad street Zaxbys. Always love the food but had problems with service at this location. The owner saw my post told me to give him a week and give it another shot. Total 180 on today's visit. Service was on point and in fact the quickest I have ever had at a Zaxbys. Arrived during the lunch hour and had my food within 5 minutes of coming in. I was really excited to try Zaxby's after hearing from people that it was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised as the cashier was very friendly and patient as I was deciding on what to order. Sad to say that I was not impressed with the food. I ordered the Wings and Things platter with their traditional sauce (on the wings) and Zax's dipping sauce (for the "things"). It came with a few chicken strips, a few wings, toast, fries, and celery. In my opinion, the massive chicken strips tasted like Chick-Fil-A nuggets, but a tad saltier. I personally prefer the Chick-Fil-A nuggets. The wings were on the dry side, the sauce was okay. The toast was flavorful since it was smothered in butter. The crinkle cut fries were okay, nothing too terrible, but not spectacular either...I didn't even touch the celery because there was a more appealing vegetable dish (fries) in front of me. Staples Mill location versus Broad Street: Seriously doubt that these two sites are owned by the same gentleman. I visited the Broad Street store and I was either invisible at the time or just an inconvenience to the staff. It is a good thing that I was familiar with the menu because the cashier wasn't any help. She made me feel as if dealing with me was an interruption of her day. As much as I like the food, the "service" that I received will deter me from returning to this location. Staples Mill location might be inconvenient and out of the way, but I will go there as opposed to the Broad Street store. read more

So-so place.....to me the sides and toast are better than what's supposed to be the best, the chicken! Maybe I just always get the wrong thing, 4 piece strip meal....to me the chicken just isn't that good. After seeing Zaxbys line go out the door and into Broad Street, I figured the food must be good. Boy was I wrong. First, my visit was around 6:00, and while the parking lot was less full, the line inside went nearly to the door. While standing in line for nearly 30 minutes, I realized that the biggest reason for the line was that the people behind the counter were not even working that fast. In fact, one young lady spent most of her time standing and starring. Further, they had only one register open. When I finally reached the register, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich combo; wanted to compare it to CFA. First, it took me about 20 more minutes to get this meal. Upon opening the box, fries were everywhere and the sandwich looked sloppily prepared. "Surely it must at least taste good" I told myself. Nope I couldn't even finish it. Zaxbys is TIGHT. Not my favorite chicken joint (Lee's will always wear that crown), but for what it is, it's great. It's kind of like a KFC or a Popeyes, but not as Southern? They put more emphasis on boneless chicken (strips, nuggets, sandwiches) than their traditional bone-in counterparts. The service was pretty slow, granted we visited 3 days after the opening. I'm sure the staff will get the flow of things to a smoother pace eventually. All the wing sauces are great, with a huge variety of interesting flavors, but Zax sauce is by far the fan favorite. They also have a Coke Freestyle machine. Definitely recommended. Solid A. read more

I sat in the drive-through line for nearly 30 minutes. That was after I went inside because I saw how long the line was and noted that there was at least 15 people in line inside. The food is good. I do really enjoy the sauces that come with the chicken. I may try coming back here in a couple months once they figure out how to make this a lot faster. The drive thru attendant was helpful and charming - we told her we were first timers, and she helped us navigate the menu faster. I want to start off saying that I've visited other Zaxby's locations further south in the past. I was REALLY excited when I saw the franchise was coming to Richmond! I *THOUGHT* it would be a good way to get some great quality wings at an affordable (*cough*) price. I decided to wait 2 or 3 weeks to let them get out the kinks, but evidently more time was needed. The few times I've stopped at the other locations further south I had a terrific experience. I had an AWFUL first experience and I'm honestly not sure after the lack of interest in my poor experience from the franchise owner and the company owner, Zach Mcleroy, that I really want to return. I can see that the other poor reviews are indicative of my experience. I never heard back from a survey I filled out on line, giving VERY poor remarks and providing my phone number. I then sent a letter (snail mail) to the company CEO and founder and never heard back. THEN I found out the email address of the franchise owner, Ryan Converse, and sent HIM a note about the poor experience. His response: "I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience at your recent visit. I've taken down all your suggestions and I will look at them with my management team." Considering I had to buy a second dinner that night I was at least expecting something to entice me to return...even a discount...but absolutely NOTHING. Here's the gist of my experience and which I relayed to the management: I got to the store about 6:10 pm. Only 3 people in front of me, my order wasn't taken until 6:22pm. I didn't get my food until a minute or two before 7pm...which wasn't enough time for me to eat dinner at home and then meet a friend at American Tap Room for drinks...I ended up not only spending almost $18 at Zaxby's for a meal I couldn't eat that night but then had to buy a second dinner at American Tap Room. While I was able to consume the wings another night, the truth is 1) I had to buy two meals instead of one 2) wings, especially boneless, never really taste that good heated back up. So it took from 6:10 pm to 7:00 pm to get a take out wing order. Then, trying to get out of the parking space with the long drive-through line was another amazing test of patience and skill. There was little room to maneuver out of the space with the line of cars blocking the spaces. Each time I've driven by the restaurant it's been packed, but if these poor reviews keep pouring in, I suspect that the lines will diminish. Not because they've improved the service but because people don't want to take the chance of the bad experience. If they can't improve the service, I suspect this franchise will be short lived. I did eat a couple of the wings before I had to run out to meet my friend for a drink. They WERE flavorful, though I thought the wings were pretty small and I was surprised that they just weren't very crisp. I've brought wings home from B-Dubs and Wing Zone and they've been AS flavorful and still crisp. Also, the online menu mentions Buffalo Chicken Fingerz, but I didn't see that on the menu in the store. I asked and they said 'yes we have that' so I ordered it. They never told me there was an uplift on the cost over the regular Chicken Fingerz. I tried one in the car on the way home since I wanted to eat one pretty quickly after getting the wings. It would have been fantastic if it was crispy. I saw some of the orders of fries come out. I didn't order them because for the price they looked like pretty small portions. Another frustration is that I ordered a 10 piece order of chicken wings. If I do that at B-Dubs, Wing Zone, or most other places who serve wings, we're allowed to order different sauces. They would not let me have 5 with one sauce and 5 with another. Buffalo Wild Wings, I feel, is a much better value for the money, either take-out or eat-in. Their wings are excellent, not much difference in price, the service is better and the management cares! I do miss Quaker Steak and Lube as I thought they had some of the best wings in town. read more

Don't get me wrong folks, I love zaxbys but this location is nothing short of worthless. I've been to this location twice now, each time I've had to wait 45 minutes to get my order and it hasn't even been busy. If you decide to dine here after reading this, walk inside look at all the tables waiting to get their food. It's sad to say the least. Management has no idea what they are doing. I love Zaxby's and was thrilled that they were finally entering the Richmond market. I gave them three weeks to get their act together before heading in. I walked right up and ordered at 1:00 on a Sunday - they were not exceptionally busy. It took 50 minutes to get our food. Yes, 50. If food took that long ANYWHERE else, patrons would eat free. They should have at least been giving out free cookies or passing out appetizers to those who were waiting. Not getting the hype at all! I have given it 2 chances and have been very underwhelmed by the food both times. The first time waited almost an hour for a tiny, overpriced, squished chicken sandwich and cold fries. The second time I thought I would try a Cobb salad with chicken tenders. Seriously? One chicken tender in my whole salad? I pretty much paid $6 for a bowl of lettuce with watery lite ranch dressing when I asked for regular ranch and almost didn't get it at all. I have an obsession for fried chicken, and was looking forward to trying Zaxby's for the first time. I order the TD wings/things ($8.09) - three fingers (Large tender, all white meat), 5 wings (actually 5 half wings), french fries, and a piece of Texas toast. You also get a choices of sauces - from their original (sort of like Thousand Island dressing) through a gamut of mild to unbelievably hot other sauces. The counter people were pleasant, and the lady helped me decide what to get. I ordered the chicken with no sauce on them so that I could try different sauces, and decide how much to put on. The fingers and wings were hot, crispy, and good--not outstanding, just good. The size of the wings? Let's just say it's a shame to kill such young chickens, especially as they have small wings.The "crinkle cut" fries were luke warm, and mushy on the inside--and the outside. How hard is it to freshly fry french fries? Perhaps I could have gone back and complained and they would have fried some, but I didn't want the chicken to get cold while I was waiting for hot fries. The Texas toast was also cold. It would have been great hot, but cold, meh. Would I go back? No. I'd go a couple of miles west to Bon Chon chicken. Great hot fried chicken, crispy hot french fries--every time, and I've been there several times. Or Popeye's at the front of the Bon Chon shopping center. Also great hot friend chicken. read more

I've been twice, both times in the drive through. Extremely slow service! First visit it was just me. I reached in the bag to get my good out and the container was covered in grease, ketchup, some other kind of sauce, it was gross. Recast toast was soggy and the food was barely warm. 2nd visit was with a friend. Extremely slow service again. Food was very gross, cold, chicken was hard, fries and "toast" were wet and soggy. The fried cheese was decent, nothing else was. It is definitely not Chik-fil-A, service can not come close to comparing, even if you aren't a chick fan, you can't deny their A+ service and the quality of their food. read more

Just opened, so I expected a long wait. We waited about 20-30 minutes to get to the register. I ordered the #1 Chicken plate. They were out of all of the appetizers so that is all I ordered. Waited 40 minutes to receive the order. I least I could get refills from the Coke freestyle machine. Got 3 small chicken pieces that based on color were over fried compared to other orders that had 4 golden tenders. Fries were good. Texas toast was salty. read more
