I had an incredible experience with most of the staff at Zeb's, but this one employee named Kristin was screaming at me, a CUSTOMER, another foreign customer showing she's extremely racist, and her COWORKERS which i found extremely disrespectful. In a regionally-recognized tourist mountain town, inevitably littered with stores selling useless crap for too much money, this is the one store in that category not to miss. My favorite thing is all the grades of maple syrup available. Oh you didn't know? Light, Medium and Dark Amber, and my personal favorite, Grade B... mmmm. At $6.95 for an 8 oz. bottle, the "Zeb's" brand maple syrup is one of the few items that isn't overpriced. They also have coffee, dry goods, soup mixes, hot sauces, penny candy, chocolates, and aesthetically horrendous tchotchkes that your friends and relatives will be reluctantly forced to display in their homes until you don't notice that they've thrown them away. I went here with my sister and brother in law with my fiancé since my sis and her husband go here on a yearly basis. The staff was so helpful and friendly and that place is sooo busy. This general store was stocked full of delectable New England treats, candy, and potential presents for the people back home you left behind when you retreated to the mountains. Maple syrup, cheese, Sarsaparilla, Root beer, Jams, Jellies, baking mixes, body soaps, chocolates, moose themed edibles-- they're all at Zebs. They even have a talking stuffed moose upstairs which encourages you to take home his stuffed woodland friends and go to his website. You can't possibly go to downtown North Conway without stopping here! Every year my family makes multiple trips here while in North Conway for the week. The first floor is basically filled with deliciousness (including sour & dill pickles). From the candy counter at the front that runs all along the right wall, to the aisles of locally made cooking sauces and spices. I never leave empty handed. I don't think many people who walk in do! Sensory overload! Wall to wall people, products in every nook and cranny, including stocked to the ceiling, and a talking moose head and mannequin. If you can avoid it, I strongly urge you to not go here when it is crowded. Go early in the morning or on an off day. Having said that, if you've never been it's a must stop while in the area. Zeb's celebrates all things New England. The bottom floor is all food, except for a small room in the back with bath and body products. Talk about food! The candy selection alone will have you drooling. There is a little something for everyone. Hot sauces, maple syrup, crackers and cheese, spice rubs, chocolate, pickles, granola - you get the idea. It's easy to pick up a taste of New England for someone at home. The upstairs has Christmas items, jewelry, glassware, home decor, items for New England sports teams, books, toys and clothing. Zeb's is such an amazing shop. My family would always make a trip here if we were vacationing in the North Conway area. It is a great place to pick up some items to remind you of your visit other than moose keychains. I recall their honey mustard as being the epitome of greatness. They also carry handmade soap, maple syrup, and honey. The candy section is really fun to explore, too. We loved this place! Tons to look at and a lot of treats we were tempted to buy! "Typical" general store? First floor was just aisles and aisles of candy, snacks, syrup and jam. Kids loved the many candy and soda choices, but this is far from authentic. Many of the items were not even from New England area - like salsa choices??? 2nd floor was souvenir hell, everything under the sun that could be sold, whether it fit north conway or not. Very crowded and tight aisles. Maybe if the place was less crowded it would have been fun. Go only if you have to, and go off hours to buy your trinkets. How can you not love Zeb's? It's adorable - it's huge, and it's got goodies for everyone! If you come here at the right time you get free samples (though lately I haven't seen them....?) I love the assortment of pickled goods, hot sauces, pretzels, and mustard. They also have fudge, candy, and other sweet goods for the kids. In fact it's one of the highlights for kids visiting North Conway - to visit Zebs and stash up on their candy! They also have goodies for your Christmas tree, house, kitchen, bathroom, and even dog! Make sure to get a picture with the giant (fake) bear, talking moose, and Zeb! I love their soup and spice mixes. Lots of vegan options there. The dipping spice mixes work great with a tub of tofutti sour cream. I wish they had some vegan fudge but I know I'm pushing it. For now I'll continue to stock up on my mustard and hot sauces. read more

Tourist towns need places like Zeb's. School field trips may need places like Zeb's too. But if you aren't in a super touristy mood, it may not be the ideal place to stroll into. I visited just before the fall foliage madness began, and found the store FLOODED with children. I mean, there were a few adults here and there, but the place must have had 20 kids for each adult who was in the store. That meant kids running up and down the stairs, shouting out candy orders over the counter, screaming, laughing, chasing each other around the store as they hoovered in vast amounts of sugar. I lapped the place to take in the candy, toys, candles, souvenirs, hot sauce, and pine pillows-- then walked out as quickly as I could. The reality is that even if there were something that appealed to me in Zeb's, it would be a fight to work my way up to the counter to make a purchase. The throngs of children inside and out were the defining feature of this store, leaving at best an impression of escaping Diagon Alley, or a Hogwarts set in Harry Potter. read more

My family is on vacation to North Conway this year, so we went in to check out Zeb's General Store. Inside is really nice, like a country store, with the counter of candy. They had everything you could think or fudge, wax bottles, gummy bears, sour everything! Oh course you are in New England so there's many different types of maple syrup. (from nonpareils to Australian licorice to sour cherries...) Local favorites like Vermont Maple Syrup and homemade jams. Coffee and accompaniments - even novelty mugs. Beef Jerky, Gouda cheese cubes, and other savory snacks. Chips, popcorn, and yogurt covered pretzels. Artisan pasta, sauces, salsas, hot sauces. Classic candy like mallow cups. Souvenir magnets, toys, and other fun items. And probably anything else you are craving. It was deservingly busy- but the lines to check out and order candy by the pound were quick, friendly, and efficient. Prices were fair and I even saw a few artisan foods that I have to special order online because most store don't carry them. I like Zeb's General Store, I really do, but the crowds and general cramped feeling of the store's layout is a big turn-off. There have been many times that we've peeked through the door and viewed the smooshed in crowd and lines and just passed on going into the store. Which is a pity because there are a lot of cute items at reasonable prices, plus tons of yummy food. When I do venture inside, I always buy a sachet. It's a tradition! And they have a great selection. Little items like that are super and in abundance at the store. I feel like the food selection is nice, but overpriced. The candy is reasonable. The worst part would be the lines. They have a very odd system, at least every time I go they have this system, where one person reads the code and another person punches it in. This is pretty slow, especially when they number has to be repeated several times. I would recommend stopping in, but do be aware that it gets very crowded. Pushing and shoving crowded. If you don't like that atmosphere, make sure you visit during an off month. read more

The most fun store in North Conway! Old fashioned general store. Chocolates galore, honey, candy, jams, jellies, maple syrup, hot sauces of all kinds, condiments of all sorts, soaps, trinkets and tchotchkes, gifts galore! I absolutely love their loose homemade soaps. The blueberry one is amazing. Their chocolate rice krispy treats... omg. Chocolate covered cranberries...thank you, the maple candy and maple syrup jelly beans....YESSS! Is it a little overpriced sure... crowded yes, but to be expected in a rural area that thrives on tourism. It's oh so fun and my favorite store! We stop in almost every time we visit North Conway and we've even taken the drive mainly to shop at Zeb's, I LOVE coming here around Christmas time! Something for everyone! Always a great place to stop in and visit! Almost a staple stop while in North Conway. Been coming up here since I was little with my grandparents, they have a decent candy bar that was better as a child but still offers a wide variety! Just a nice country store type of vibe. Some items tend to be over priced in my opinion but it's what's expected for a tourist type spot! Their Zeb's brand glass bottle soda is some of the best and a must buy. Plenty of moxie items for those who love that nasty drink as well. Always seems to change somewhat every time I've came here tho as far as items laid out in spots, one way to freshen it up. A bit cramped in places tho so if you don't like being shoulder to shoulder with others try to find a slower time to visit or steer clear. read more

Zeb's is amazing!!! I have driven by so many times and have always wanted to check it out, and I'm glad I finally did. This place is like a general store...minus the cheap souvenier t shirts and shot glasses. I really like buying local home made products, i.e. salsa, pickes, maple syrup, candies etc. and this is the kind of stuff they carry. If you can pickle it, they carry it. There is an ENORMOUS candy counter and you can find any type of penny candy there is. Have a childhood favorite? I bet they have it. I saw a few different ones and thought to myself....omg I cant believe they still make these!! They have the old fashioned glass bottles of coke, too which I thought was pretty cool. I didnt even get to go upstairs because there is so much packed into this small place, so I cant wait to get back up there and head back in when I'm not in such a rush! Check it out! I have actually made a day trip from the Boston area to have a sour pickle out of their pickle barrel. Every hot sauce I have in my cupboard came from their excellent selection. A must-visit if you go to North Conway! They have every kind of candy imaginable (seemingly all my childhood favorites), plus an insane amount of hot sauces, syrups, jams, preserves, mustards, popcorn flavors...the list goes on endlessly! They also have a ton of New Hampshire touristy stuff, Christmas ornaments, kid's toys, and (my personal favorite) Moxie gear! Two small reasons I'm taking away a star - 1. The crowds - be prepared to fight your way through, especially on a weekend! 2. - the prices. Some of their specialty candies/foods are pretty pricey, be prepared to rack up a bill! A fantastic place to pick up specialty New England items such as syrups, sauces, sodas, candy, baked goods, and more. There is so much to peruse that it can get almost overwhelming, in a "this place is so awesome!" kind of way. They have hundreds of different kinds of hot sauces from around New England and the rest of the US (including a large selection of the much feared ghost pepper). There is a huge section that is nothing but sweets. Everything from fudge to jaw breakers the size of your head. You will feel like a kid in a..you guessed it...candy shop. There is a series of cold cases in the back that have tons of local sodas including birch beer, ginger beer, root beer (but no beer beer, unfortunately). They also have cream soda, orange soda and many other kinds of the cold, sweet, bubbly stuff. Moxie, anyone? They also have cutesy New Hampshire gifts such as hand crafted wooden signs, 'Live Free or Die' themed coffee mugs and magnets, and they can even put together some pretty bitchin gift baskets in their awesome old timey soda fountain area. It is the best. Yes you have to wear a mask but otherwise it is a good store with a lot of good options.

Pretty cool variety store where you find things you never seen before. Besides tons of candy and pickled goods, you have kitchen goods, toys, cool signages, gifts...etc....all have some old time charm to them. Price is ok. We spent good time just looking around for cool stuff. I would suggest setting up a trial table for all those pickled items. Alot of cool food but I am unwilling to committ to a whole jar/bottle unless I know I will like it... Next time in town we will go back. Nice place to kill time. read more
