I have to say that I really enjoy going to Frankenmuth during the holiday season. The last couple years I have ordered pies to take home for the Thanksgiving weekend. This year I ordered a strawberry rhubarb pie and it was quite disappointing! It is the first pie that I have been disappointed with and the first pie that will turn me away for future purchases. I have experienced a lack of quality in some of my favorite restaurants lately and it's a real bummer! I am a sweets girl. I Love sweets. They have everything here including donuts, pie, cookies, chocolate, breads, and the list goes on and on. Got some cookies which were hit or miss. Some good, some just eh. Chocolate chip were good. The peanut butter were awesome but my bestie got cinnamon raisin and didn't care for them and I got a lemon cookie, I feel like mine are better. I love this bakery. Everything looked amazing. We got the turnovers which were flaky and filled with fruit. We purchased a cinnamon crunch loaf bread which will be our breakfast this morning. I had to try the famous zehanders chicken while in town. Luckily, they have a cafe below the sit-down restaurant with the same options, just in a 'fast' setting. I had chicken fresh out of the fryer, Mac 'n cheese, string beans and a roll. The chicken was ok, I don't think it was extraordinary. The bakery portion of Zehnder's was pretty good. I liked the homemade baked goods and all the samples that they had out to try. It took a lot of will power to say no to these goodies. There were a lot of other random confections that were pre-packaged and not my cup of tea. Glad I came in and checked things out though. read more

I could say that I enjoy Zehnder's Bakery better than its namesake restaurant! It's more of a country market with a cafe. I loved my meal I ordered at the cafe. The chicken is the same as what they serve inside the restaurant. The bakery has a huge selection of baked goods as well as many homemade foods. They have a variety of flavored honey, real maple syrups, homemade dipping sauces, and dessert toppings. I bought the sweet cherry salsa, which was excellent. You don't see these products in your average grocery store; if you do, I wouldn't be sure the quality would be as good. The gift shop has a lot of cool things too! Zehnder's Bakery is definitely a place worth visiting. When you're done eating in the restaurant, head downstairs and take a look! I'm sure there is something you will like! read more

If I could give Zehnder's Bakery 10 stars, I would do it!!! After living in Michigan for 18 years, I've had many items from the bakery, so when we moved to Texas and our daughter's wedding was in Saginaw, I immediately contacted Julie from the bakery and they didn't disappoint. We special ordered 300 cupcakes with varying heights of frosting and flavors and with delivery and cupcake stand rental, they were half the price of other well known bakeries. People at the wedding LOVED the cupcake idea and they tasted so good, I think I ate 1/2 dozen by myself! I would order from Zehnders in a heartbeat! read more

I travel through this area on business frequently, and always stop in for a snack, as well as baked goods for family and neighbors. The level of quality is consistently very good. Although this is a professionally managed bakery, the products I buy have an appealing homemade taste. My particular favorites include the iced sweet breads (fruit stollen and cinnamon), which make fantastic toast, and the hand pies in many flavors (try the fruit and cream-peach and cream, raspberry and cream-very rich and decadent). The only "criticism" I can make is that later in the day many items get sold out, but that also demonstrates that everything is fresh. Best strategy is to shop first, stash your purchases in your vehicle, then eat your meal. Thank you for being a hallmark for Michigan foods and hospitality. YUM, read more

Quality of their baked goods is hit and miss. They make the best strawberry rhubarb pie I've ever eaten but the last pie I purchased from them was really short on filling and the pie crust (which I don't even eat) was thicker than usual so that was a bummer. I used to love their chocolate fudge cake and I always would buy a whole one but some were really good and some were REALLY dry. I decided to stick with slices from now on. Their black forest cake is passable - not the best I've ever had but "good enough" when it's not old and dried out. Their German chocolate torte's (individual size) are REALLY good when you can get them fresh. This is yet another bakery that is very sloppy with their quality control. Most baked goods are beyond their prime after 2 days. Their best bet is to freeze whatever hasn't sold by day 2 and offer it for 1/2 price - it will be almost as good as fresh when you thaw it out. Leaving it to linger for days in the case is a bad idea since people will think that's the quality of the baked goods if they happen to get an old dried up cake. Lastly, I like to eat lunch at the Cafe when I go and I have never gotten a piece of chicken there that wasn't dry and tasteless. I stick to the chicken noodle soup now which is always excellent. read more
