Zeller's Ace Hardware Store in Downtown Napa is always helpful. They have been around for over 60 years. Parking is easy on the street or in their private lot. The guys inside are always helpful. Key cutting is available, acrylic sheet cutting, paint color matching, propane refill or exchange, and more. On this visit, I walked in and was greeted by Roy who lead me directly to what I needed in plumbing. We enjoyed a nice conversation and it was lovely to be helped by someone personable. Dad had a huge selection of tools in his garage. I really dont thik he used them all, but he just liked going back to this store because he was always treated so well when he went there. He was always greeted by friendly ssles people when he rntered the store, snd they were alwsys so helpful in assisting him to find something. Unlike the big box stores down the street, where you have to look for help, this store always had plenty of staff ready to assist you. A great place to shop. read more

Although I have had many good transactions with this store, recently I tried to return a Craftsman tool for warranty. Clark the owner, refused to honor Craftsman's stated warranty. Apparently he has an issue with Craftsman that was so bad that he refuses to honor the warranty. I suggested that maybe he should stop selling Craftsman products or at least, post a sign that clearly states his refusal to not honor the warranty. I also registered a complaint with Craftsman who needs to fix the issue with Zeller's owner. I should give 1 star because of this experience. but I've had many good transactions so I rated the store higher. I was in Ukiah and went to the ACE store and they DID honor the warranty and were very nice to deal with. read more

I have a few tools in my tool box that I cart around in the RV but something fell over and I need something else today. We stopped in to Ace to see if they had what I needed. And they did! I picked up a screwdriver and some other hardware to do some repairs. While we were shopping, I asked one of the associates if this particular screwdriver opened up to hold the bits. He insisted that it did. It turns out that it did not. Oh, well. A good deal on today's purchase though. My friend had a $5 coupon in the mail so that was nice. I love Zeller's Ace Hardware! We've come here frequently since we're doing a lot of work on an old house. The employees are super friendly and kind and consistently take the time to give good and thoughtful customer service. They're dog friendly, and my dog loves coming here so much that she pulls me down the block when we get close- they give her treetos as soon as she drags us through the door. They're a little more expensive than other big box stores and Amazon, but we're happy to spend our money here to support this awesome local business. read more

I have been shopping in this store for many years. The store used to be located in the old shopping center that is now the Outlet Stores. The Ace Zeller's was a main go-to then and still is now. It's small enough to not get lost wandering the aisles and stocked well enough to find just about anything. They do have a variety of items not found in many larger stores, Home Depot, Lowes', etc. They have "scrap" pieces of this and that you can get free or for a low price. I also want to give a real thumbs up to the staff. I seldom have to wait more than 2 minutes before someone asks if they can help me. They all know the store and take me or direct me to the right spot. I have heard that they might have to relocate again due to the plans of the old Post Office building renovations. I certainly hope not. If so, please stay in Napa. read more

Try to support Ace but it's getting tougher. Store was way overpriced and wouldn't match the ONLINE ACE price for the exact same item! "That's a completely different thing separate from us"; then don't call yourselves Ace Hardware, it's a lie. $50 bucks more for the exact same water heater! Seriously, it comes up on the screen how much they actually pay for it and profit they'll be making ($180 in this instance). I mean it's the daily little hits like these that lose valued customers. I won't shop the box stores because they are overpriced and low quality. Can't shop here because their ripping you off even from the parent company. Amazon is less painful without the bullsh$t, I give up on places like this...and that's what's killing them. Good luck and Good riddance. Take that extra 50 bucks and buy some resume paper for your employees. PS, heard the ACE right down the street is better with their customers, should have tried them but to what avail I don't know. They TAKE TIME to give me the assistance I need, to complete my project, no matter how big or small; more than any other hardware store. They have given me assistance, not only for purchasing, but have given me excellent advice on how to complete my project. A useful home improvement store. If you need to make basic home improvements, such as painting, grout, making keys, it's excellent. It's family-run. It has character, with taxidermy on the walls. It stands out in hipster-ish and fancy downtown Napa. When I lived in an old house, Zeller's was the place to go for the basics with reasonable prices. It's easy to find, across the street from the Presbyterian church, with its own parking lot. A local favorite. read more

It's a bit odd that whenever we go on vacation, we somehow have the need to visit a hardware stores of all places. At home, we can go for over a year without going to a hardware store, we're not the do it yourself kinda people, but... this shop a quaint step back in time, we went cuz we needed a specialty wire for my husbands computer and though we didn't think they'd have it, had to try. The guy was super friendly and helpful, they have all kinds of tools and gadgets, a more compact version of the chain hardware stores like Ace, etc. I especially liked that this store is more manageable just by the sheer size of it, you will not have to walk through aisles and rows in search of one item with nobody to help. These guys are literally the BEST! I'm sitting here outside their parking lot extremely satisfied with the service that I got. I originally went to Home Depot earlier today and described my predicament and three project I need to get done. The first one tried to help but lacked the creative imagination to put together a solution. The second one looked around and when I described my project she suddenly remembers that she needs to put away a product to one of the shelves and never came back to assist. I basically spent a good 45 minutes in Home Depot without a solution. My lady then recommended Ace Hardware and told me that she found them more helpful and it's the most refreshing experience I have ever had. I was assisted by an older gentleman. Once he heard my predicament he then took it upon himself to troubleshoot my project. It was impressive to watch! You can hear him speaking out loud his thoughts. I just waited and watched him do his thing and I came away with a solution. I love these guys! I will recommend them to anybody over any other hardware store. read more

Just the thought of shopping at Home Labyrinth gives me the chills. The closest I get to that place is Raleys. Anyhow, Zellers is the real deal. I prefer to shop locally to keep our homegrown places like this in business. I recently went down there for a bolt for my scooter and I of course, cant remember the gentlemans name that helped me but the service I received far exceeded my expectations. Go here if you want a hardware store that practices "The way things should be." When I was young, I worked in a mom and pop hardware store in the midwest. We had a simple mission statement: "Service, selection, and service." Zeller's is the first store I've found in 5 years of California living that meets the standard set in my expectation of what a hardware store should be. I went in for a unusually specific request: I needed a right angle Phillips screwdriver to fit a 9 mm clearance. I had previously researched availability of such a specific tool, and all I could ever find was a data sheet for one written in Japanese. I was met at the register and taken to the right angle screwdrivers, but none matched the strict requirements for the application. I then talked to Joe. Within a couple of minutes brainstorming, Joe came up with a much better solution than my backup of grinding a + bit down and tac welding it to a thin steel strip. After talking about torque needed and the space limitations the application demanded, Joe came up with a brilliant idea. He quickly fashioned exactly what I needed out of a small strip of brass. I was not expecting a makeshift tool fabrication when I walked in, but in less than 10 minutes I had a tool crafted which did exactly what I needed it to. A quick scan of the aisles, and especially the vast selection of nuts, bolts, screws tells me that if I needed just about anything, I could find it here. Thank you Joe. -Post Earthquake Update- Zellers got shook up, but opened ASAP to service Napa's recovery. This is a real hardware store! Huge selection nuts and bolts in bulk. Fan belts. Window screen. Shelf brackets. All the stuff that Big Orange either chooses not to carry or you will never find. Zellers has helpfull people that know their stuff. This is a great stop for those who are not confidant do it your-selfers. They can walk you through a lot of home projects. Amazing inventory. Give them a try. read more

Got attitude by one employee for checking a rubber gasket size. Only way to get accurate size was to open the package. Just left. Poor customer service. He wanted to know if I was going to open all of them. Seriously? Paid for all 3 packages and ended up throwing them all away. Good old fashioned i.e. FANTASTIC customer service. Keys duplicated within minutes, (on a Saturday, the first locksmith I went to was closed on weekends). these were ordinary keys but they advertise chip keys made for autos too. Shop local you will not be disappointed here! read more

I certainly appreciate that this place has everything, that I have needed thus far, that you can never find at the big box style places in terms of hardware. I have, however, found some of the long term male staff that work toward the back of the store to not be the most friendly or helpful, almost as though they are bothered by having to answer questions. My keyless remote for my vehicle was dying on me. I called Zeller's to verify they had the battery I needed. The male on the phone was quick and helpful. I told him I would be on my way to get it, as soon as I walked in the door he had it ready for me, which was so helpful as My Monday morning had not started off so well. They may not have the best prices and they may not have the biggest selection, but they pretty much have everything you could possibly need, and it's way easier to look through than Home Depot or Amazon for certain items... I typically don't buy any tools or big things here, sometimes if they are on sale, but what I definitely always come here for is any specific nuts or bolts or nails or anything weird that I need... I could show the guys in This store is the most obscure piece of hardware whether it's related to carpentry or plumbing or electrical or whatever, and they will simply look at it, size it up ocularly, and then lead me to exactly what I was asking for... And as far as Hardwear goes, their prices are completely reasonable and downright cheap, especially considering they always have what I need... Unlike Home Depot or Lowe's who drive me crazy unless I'm looking for the cheapest or most generic screws or nails possible. read more

I went to my friendly, neighborhood Zellers to buy a metal ladder for my husband. Even though, I and my husband, both worked for Home Depot, we prefer Zellers. Well, Zellers found me the exact product I was looking for, and I ended up with a fire-pit ( oh yea, wood too!) that I had been on the lookout for, plus they let me take the display so I didn't have to assemble it. I had the pleasure of going to Zellar's Hardware store this week. I had a sprinkler that had come off and was looking for a new one for replacement. I went to the store, ready to buy a new sprinkler head. I was immediately helped and rather than sell me a new part, the man at the counter sent me to the back to have my existing part repaired. Joe worked on it for about 5 minutes, repaired it at no charge, and I was quickly on my way. I have frequented both Home Depot and Lowes and have never been happy with the experience.
