I don't like change when it comes to the companies I choose for self-care services. I recently moved to the Lawrenceville area and that drive to my former nail spa in McDonough has become an inconvenience. So I decided to take a leap of faith and search Google for nail salon near me, sorting by highest reviews. I am extremely particular about my manicures and pedicures. Everything matters to me from the establishment's sanitary habits, to how they're shaped and filed, to how closely the colors match since I use dipping powder for my nails and regular polish on my toes, and more. I chose Mickey Nail and Spa because they have a 4.7 rating on Google, with almost 400 reviews. That definitely demonstrates consistency IMO. Further research showed this establishment was formerly Zen Nail Spa but it's under new management, and the reviews are still good. Reading through the reviews, the name Julie came up often. Also, on the FB page, most of the photos displayed are of her work so I chose to make my Dipping Powder w/ extensions appointment with her. I was 2 minutes late for my appointment because I couldn't find it on Maps (iOS). Turns out they still list the establishment as Zen Nails Spa but I found it (Mickey) when I switched over to Google Maps. The parking lot is shared with a church but there are designated parking spaces for the nail spa. Those signs also still say Zen Nail Spa. The reception is right there upon entering the establishment. The choice of music is very relaxing and the incense is calming as well. I suffer from year-round allergies and asthma, and the scent did not bother me at all. Mickey greeted me, checked me and, and confirmed my services I told him the person doing m pedicure should not be someone who is too gentle as I like a strong massage, and he suggested Bing. He asked me to have a seat while they got my pedicure seat ready and I was called back a few minutes later. The area is small, with about 5 or 6 spa pedicure chairs. The lights were dimmed, the music was subtle, and the TV was on a Netflix baking show, with low volume. I was offered a water nice seated. I still chose the $60 pedicure which included an additional 20 minute reflexology massage, and added a paraffin wax for $10. Another woman (i think her name was Rita), soaked my current nails to remove the dipping powder while Bing started my pedicure. Both ladies were very polite, as was Mickey. Julie joined me about 15 minuted in, and started on my nails. She helped me choose a color and let me know that while they have a matching dipping powder/Gel/regular polish set, the dipping powder us slightly darker than the gel/regular polish. I was ok with that as that is usually the case, but I am glad she mentioned it as she should have. I told her the shape I wanted and she showed me the first one to ensure it was to my liking which it was. I have a small nail bed so I like my nails narrow and almond with a slightly round tip (not oval but not too pointy). She nailed it (pun intended lol). The total for my nails was $55 which is a great price for soak-off, dipping powder w/ extensions, and paraffin wax. Bing had me nodding off because my pedicure was amazing. She used a timer when commencing the reflexology. The last part of my pedicure before polish was the paraffin wax at which point Bing stepped away and Julie completed my polish. She asked me to stay in the chair with the fan on my toes if I have time, to ensure my toes are completely dry. All-in-all, I had a great experience. I was thanked for my business multiple times by everyone, but especially by Micky and Julie. In addition to being satisfied the services rendered, I was definitely impressed with their customer service. Though the establishment is small, it definitely feels very Zen. The staff is warm and inviting, and the owner is as well. I am so glad I gave them a try and I will be back. I will update future reviews to advise if my positive experience is consistent. read more

I've waited a few weeks to write this review because I don't like reviewing places when I'm angry. My massage and pedicure were amazing. The guy working there is great but the LADIES are not so great. At least not the one that did my mani or the lady that gave me a facial. While I was getting a facial the lady was massaging my face with one hand while on her phone with the other. I told the manager before leaving and she was very unprofessional. Instead of talking to the lady in private she believed her employee and brought her out to confront me. I spoke my truth and the facial lady was like " sorry sorry sorry" so she admitted to what she did. All the manager had to say was I'll talk to her. She didn't offer a discount or a future discount if I were to come back. Also, the pictures people have put of their uneven nail polish are true. That's what happened with my pedi. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! My mother & I came here on a Sunday night close to closing and they happily accommodated us! They were so welcoming and friendly making us feel at home. The atmosphere was super peaceful, you can't do anything but relax there. Rita and Helen were nothing less than hospitable offering us water during our service and constantly checking on us ensuring we were alright and were pleased with the service they were providing. Like I said , it was super close to closing time and what surprised me was that they weren't rushing us out like many salons would in that situation, they took their time and didn't compromise their work just to get home 'on time'. I can't wait to go back! Best nail service I've received, best atmosphere around. Can't express my love for this place enough! 11/29: Went in today for an acrylic fill in, but my nails were lifted. Instead of just filling over it and making it worse like most salons do, Ms.Helen took them all off and gave me a set of solar nails instead explaining that acrylic doesn't take to my nails. Finally gave this place a try. Don't let the outside fool you! I wasn't entirely sure what to expect but this place uses the term day spa appropriately. As I walked in I was transported to a serene environment. The lobby is closed off from the rest of the spa which is nice. The woman checked me in and told me to take my time choosing a color. About a minute later another woman came through the door and led me back to the room where my water was waiting and was the perfect temperature. I looked over the menu and opted for the sun kissed pedicure ($30). The pedicure was amazing. She took her time and did everything to my liking. She even took extra time to fix my atrocious ingrown. And double checked and changed the color when it turned out that it was too light for my toes. The playlist of John Mayer, Michael Buble, Adele and a sprinkling of Frank Sinatra paired with the great massage chair lulled me to relaxation. I ended up spring for an extra 10minute foot massage because It felt so great. My manicure was just as great! I showed them what I wanted and they helped me figure out what I needed. This place is not cheap but I wouldn't call it expensive I would say that it is comparable to most places. My acrylic tips manicure came out to $40 I would rather spend the money here and get the experience than the standard "pick a color" "We'll take your payment now" one. You won't be disappointed! Just like your average woman, I have frequented many nail salons in my day. I will tell you that Zen is much more like a Day Spa than a nail salon. The moment you walk in, the tranquil atmosphere whisks you away and makes you forget that you are right on Grayson Highway. I've been here 4 or so times now in the short time that they've been open. From my first visit, I've been hooked. It's not just the fact that they put rose petals in the water, or even the fact that each time they offer me green tea, coffee or water. But they actually take their time and provide a thorough, relaxing service. Almost each time I've gone, I could have fallen asleep during my pedicure with Rita's skillful hands and foot massages. And I get the PERFECT gel manicure from Susan. I promise you, their service and atmosphere far exceeds its "competitors"- if you want to call it that. This place deserves less than one star but it's not an option. But prepare yourself for this lengthy, but VERY informative review. It's worth the read!!! I'll never go here EVER again. I can promise that!! It all started when my sweet husband got a couples spa voucher for my first Mother's Day. He had issues with one worker (the Asian lady with super super short hair). She was SO VERY RUDE to him when he was just asking about their spa voucher that he was spending almost $300 on. So he already had a bad taste in his mouth but he really wanted to take me to a spa so he just went through with getting it. Well we finally went in and it started as the WORST experience ever. We got there a little late, never set a true appt time I just called to ask if it was busy bc I wanted to come in in about 30 min, and when I told a worker we would just come in the next day because we didn't wanna keep them there late after they closed, the same INCREDIBLY rude worker jumped in and had an AWFUL attitude towards us and was saying that the voucher would lose half of its value. I was so confused. No where on the voucher did it say that. It only said no cash refund on the bottom. So my husband tried to explain to them that it was just because they were closing in just over an hour and it was a voucher for two full body massages, and two mani pedis and my full set which would all obviously take well over an hour. Well the lady was working on a customer while she was being very mean to us huffing and puffing rolling her eyes arguing and getting a terrible attitude when no one was talking to her in the first place, we were talking to another sweet lady. My husband was livid because after spending so much money they wanted to take away half the value for something we didn't do. Said it's because we set an appt (which we didn't) and they stopped other business to have us. Which it was a Tuesday and the place was completely DEAD and they had plenty other workers. So after my husband going back and forth and demanding the voucher back, we left. Ended up going the next day. Got the full value, which we deserved anyways. Well it started with them rushing me to pick a color when I had only been looking for MAYBE two minutes. (Other reviews mentioned this too. And there's a bell to ring when you're done so why am I being bugged?) So we did the mani pedi first. Well the lady painting my toes did HORRIBLE job (pic attached). She didn't massage my legs, just lazily lightly rubbed her hands on them and hit my wet toe nail with the UV light thing and I had to ask for her to fix it and she didn't even do that. She didn't even make sure my toes were dry before I had to go lay on my stomach for a massage so they kinda smudged down and I didn't even know. They did my whole nail set and was rushing us to go to the massage room and she completely forgot to do my mani. So she hurried and did both hands/arms literally within 4 minutes!!! And my husband got like a 20 min mani! And he didn't even get his nails done, obviously lol. 6/10 nails were completely slanted and the dip powder was horribly done and the top coat wasn't well done so I have empty, rough splotches on my nails. I went home and had to file all my nails myself I only didn't complain because the lady who did them was SO super sweet and the only good worker there and I hate being THAT picky customer. Well then they rushed us into the rooms and was standing outside of the bathroom door waiting on me, I could hardly even have privacy. The massage was actually pretty good, which even though I'll never go back there, the only thing I would recommend is that. Very disappointed but I didn't have the heart to express it to my husband because he felt so bad because he wanted me to enjoy my first couples spa experience and they RUINED it for us!! All in all.... spend your money elsewhere!! They don't deserve a penny. Wouldn't even tell us how to contact the owner or who the owner even was! This place is complete trash! I set up an appointment online the night before arriving and I had to put a $10 deposit, which i never heard of but it was fine. I selected pink and white ombre nails, which was $50. That was a little higher than normal but i was ok with it because i wanted my nails to be done right. I get to my appointment 20 mins earlier than scheduled. When i arrived the lady up front was like ohhh what do you want. I told her i wanted ombre and i set an appointment. She told me to have a seat and someone will be right with me. This adorable pregnant lady started to file my nails and tells me she has to do a manicure first and it was $5 extra, i agreed. Once she put the tips on, a mother and her daughter came in and my nail tech gets up and starts doing their nails. I was completely lost because she didn't tell me anything. 10 mins go by and this older lady said I'm going to finish your nails. I told her I wanted a dark pink ombre to white tip, she said yes i do for you. Then she grabs this powder that was called brown sugar, it turned out to not be pink at all! I tell the owner this isn't the right color and she says yes you wanted pink, that's pink. I just dealt with it. Then the nail tech doing my nails gets the acrylic all over my nails in blobs and the two colors are not blending at all. I waited until 1 hr. and 30 mins passed by and I said ma'am, this is not at all what I wanted. This was sloppy and you couldn't even see the coffin shape of my nails anymore. She screamed at me and said " I TRIED MY BEST TO DO FOR YOU!!" then i proceeded to tell her that her attitude was poor and you shouldn't be screaming at a client. She told me she would fix it. She began to put more acrylic on top of the already bulging nails, and it was all over my cuticle. I then told her I cant do this, so she pushed the table onto me and told me to leave. I have never dealt with this kind of behavior. I went to my nail tech at Tina's nails and she said she has never seen anything like this before and it took her 2 hours to reverse the damage done to my nails and cuticles. It's the norm, you sign in, they may or may it acknowledge you other than shouting what are you getting and then pick a color. Then you wait in folding chairs near the glass door by everyone else. Oh let me not forget, you do have the privilege of a view and that is the nail drying station and Buddha with all of his fruit and cakes. So happy I found this spot! My first visit was for a facial and it was amazing. Very relaxing and my skin looked and felt great afterwards. Before leaving I booked a pedicure and gel manicure. Again such an experience. Very relaxing - I chose the Zen pedicure and manicure with the paraffin treatment and they do not skimp on the treatment or the time. The facility is truly a day spa, in that you can get spa-like treatment with just simple manicure and pedicure. Prices are competitive to strip mall salons but experience is so much better. Staff so lovely and friendly. It was truly relaxing and appreciate their attention to detail, e.g. small clip-on desk lamps near pedicure stations so that guests can enjoy dimmed mood lighting. Highly recommended calling ahead of time as they aren't large, so walking in with more than yourself could be a wait. Even though the entrance to the spa is a bit out of the way, it does have a nice relaxing atmosphere. I've been here twice for a paraffin wax pedicure. The first was pretty good, even if they did interrupt my service to switch technicians. I found that to be in poor taste. But the pedicure turned out fine, and my polish lasted okay, so I wasn't worried about returning. My second visit resulted in a lackluster pedicure however. Within a week the polish has chipped off in spots on all of my toes, with entire nails uncovered. She didn't clean up my nails very well after the polish either. I'm very disappointed in the result and won't be back. My technician seemed to be very inexperienced, so that may be the cause. But I now a need a new pedicure before I go on vacation this week, and so it was a waste of $40. read more

Best salon I've ever been to! It's by appointment only, so, the ladies take their time to ensure your nails look perfect. The salon is clean and has an intimate feel to it. My boyfriend and I went for a mani-pedi and we both left feeling well pampered. My gel manicure-pedicure looks amazing. They made my short nails look the best they've ever looked after leaving a nail salon. The massage chairs are very relaxing. Very nice place extremely quite. Smaller than normal nails places but not really more expensive. The people are very pleasant and offered drinks right away. The thing I like the most is the lack of strong smell in the air and they try very hard to keep everything clean, bags over each pedi sink for every Client and keeping chemicals in another room to keep sting smell down. This is for the EYELASHES Service ONLY ! Do not come here to get your lash extensions. I decided to try the service and was very disappointed on how long afterwards they have begun to fall off . First off the technician seemed like she was being rushed by the staff . They keep coming into the room talking their language. The other thing , she barely cleaned my eyelids before starting services. I actually had to ask if she will clean them va just wiping them with tissue . Which could be another reason why the lashes didn't last and was Falling off constantly. Then to make matter worsts , there was chucks of glue that was visible underneath the lids which looks like clusters vs high end lash extensions. The thick glue caused some of my natural lashes to fall out as well . NEVER again with i get my lashes done here ! read more

this was my first gel experience. they lasted over 3 weeks (I work overnights and I didn't have time for a new set until i started my new job). the tv is in an adjacent room so if you're not a talker, you have to keep your head turned left to see the tv because there's nothing else to look at. i'm not sure how new SNS gel is, but they didn't have many color options. not a bad thing, but i'm very picky about color and the next salon i went to had an entire shoebox full of swatches, while this place had a bowl of them. they do have a lot of acrylic colors though. I was not happy with my nails, although the service itself was relaxing. i'm not sure what happened, but I got a glitter lavender color, and one hand looked perfect while the other had almost no shine, as if the glitter was buffed off on one hand. it was very uneven and I didnt notice till later. even my boyfriend asked why they look different. i'm really not sure what happened. i'll add photos, which were taken before I got them removed, but I assure you the color looked like that from day one. the service was nice and I enjoyed it. you sit in a bench style seat against the wall, behind a table and your artist sits in a chair in front of you. my only gripe with it was lack of leg room but it was comfy! it's great to not have to sit your nails under a UV light like with acrylic. it's unnecessary skin damage exposure. plus, gel lasts longer. i work with my hands lifting lumber and drywall all day and use lots of cleaning product at work, and they didn't crack. I now have acrylics (from a different salon) and one has already cracked after a week. if you use a lot of cleaning products, they won't affect your gel mani. read more

Best nail experience I've had in about 10 years. The place was so peaceful, I was knocked out during my manicure. I completely slept through it. I'm not sure how this place gets by with good reviews. Good impression when you first go in - but the actual nail service and customer service is not. They seem really sweet but don't actually care about service provided- they cut corners. Literally and figuratively. I would say Susan is the exception, but she's still not "the best" for being the best they have. I'm a very observant person with attention to detail and have experiences with many different places - worst and best. This is one of the worst. To me there are 4 warning signs that probably mean a poor nail salon. 1) Most of them take a VERY long time to get the job done. I don't mean taking time in a good way...I mean way too long because they don't know what they're doing. 2) Not asking any questions about your preferences- nail shape, length, etc. 3) Inconsistency in completing steps. Going back and re-doing things multiple times and occasionally hurting you in the process. 4) Another tech finishing a job already started by someone else, ONLY because they become aware that you're noticing there is a poor job being done. And then watching them let the tech who did the poor job go and work on another person!!! I've been there a total of 3 times - 1st when they opened. Tried getting an acrylic fill which was a TERRIBLE job. Tried going back to get just a facial which was subpar. It had been a year since going and thought maybe they'd gotten better and that we'd try it for just a regular mani/pedi. How bad could you mess that up right? Wrong. Terrible experience. I left looking like my feet weren't exfoliated at all with subpar pedicure. And my manicure resulted in my nails being all different shapes with nail shavings still hanging off from an awful filing job not being cleaned up. read more

WOW! I almost don't want to write this bc I feel like it's a hidden gem and I don't want there to be a long wait when I go. Pros: Love the atmosphere. This quaint house set up is killing every strip mall nail shop I've ever seen. Relaxing. Clean. Volume of tv isnt blaring and she chose a show she knew my 7yo daughter would love. Multiple treatment rooms so there is at least some degree of privacy or at least you aren't listening to a few teenager girls talking loudly on the phone about silliness. Cons: A little pricey. $55 for a paraffin Mani/pedi (basic pedi, no upgrades) and there is more of language barrier than I'm used to. Asked for dip nails and the tech proceeded to apply acrylic to my nails to "build the nail" instead of adding tips. Had poor quality polishes and I could tell the tech was ready to leave and did not shape or file my nails evenly. The acrylic is thick and bumpy unlike the think layer of dip like I wanted. She did not clean up the excess polish around my nail beds either. Poor communication and overcharged for the nails. I would not recommend and will not return. read more

The staff is very friendly & take directions very well on exactly how I want my nails. They take their time & actually stayed past closing time on several occasions. This Nail Salon is AMAZING! I was referred to it months ago, but I have been too busy to check it out. I made an appt. for 6:30p after work on Tues. They will accept walk-ins, but prefer appointments. When I walked in, I could tell that this place was truly all of good things that I what I heard about.
