Very disappointing experience. After church on a Sunday is normally a busy time for restaurants. For a buffet, this normally means that the food is being emptied and replenished continuously. Not so with this buffet. I saw only two items refilled during the complete time I was there. Entrees were down to peppers and onions without the meats. The wonton soup had no wontons, only broth. It didn't matter, though, as there were no soup bowls available either. I will not be returning. Wonton soup was good but only six wontons in the large order; most restaurants give 8. Fried dumplings were deep fried and soggy, stuck together in a small container. The ones I've had at other restaurants are just fried on one side in a pan. The chicken with mixed vegetables was very good. Sesame chicken I've ordered before was heavily breaded. Wonton soup and fried dumplings are our favorites, so I probably won't order here again. Too bad as options are limited in Shallotte. read more

I ordered from here tonight. Using Door dash app. I ordered the shrimp, pork, and chicken pineapple combo for my hubby. Only to get a call after I placed the order today, they don't have shrimp. I tried to tell her that was fine just add more can or pork. I only agree because she was rushing me off the phone. I believed it was going to be chicken pork with vegetables as this is what I explained to her. She could barely understand me. Ok, so we were in Shallotte, we were hungry, and we were not looking for fast food. Yelp to the rescue-we were near Zeng's, hidden in an unassuming building behind the Zaxby's, and decided to check it out. They didn't have the buffet going on a quiet Sunday afternoon (we got there between lunch and dinner, around 4), so we ordered off the menu. While they had the usual American Chinese options, we were tempted by the family platter-lo mein, fried rice, and your choice of two chicken options. We went for General Tso's and chicken wings, because, well, how can you go wrong with fried chicken two ways? The platter was huge! A whole casserole pan full, in fact! It was a great deal for under $35-definitely enough food for a family of four (or more, if you're less piggy than we are) The quantity was impressive but honestly the quality was surprisingly good-the general tso's was lightly breaded and perfectly crispy as were the wings. I don't usually go for either fried rice or lo mein but they were both pretty tasty too. Atmosphere was not fancy, but it was clean, and nice and quiet and cool on a hot day with old school decor. The folks running the place were super nice as well. Is it Michelin star material? No. But for a straightforward Chinese American spot in the middle of southern coastal NC, it was an amazing deal and quite a delicious and enjoyable experience. Have always heard how great this place was but was very disappointed after our dinner tonight. We ordered two shrimp rolls, the crag ragoons, and the chicken lo mein. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and very prompt with order. The shrimp rolls were good, crunchy and full of veggies but the ragoons... were a massive disappointment. Out of the eight we received we did not have any crab in any of them. The were wontons with cream cheese inside them, that was it. I hate to say this but it was horrible. The lo mein was fairly good but lacked veggies and chicken. Overall we were disappointed in our order and maybe it was just a bad experience; will definitely give another try but was just a bad experience overall. read more

Since China King in Sunset Beach/OIB went down the tubes since it was sold we needed to find a new Chinese restaurant. We did pick up several times, food and service excellent, wish they would not put the chicken for sweet and sour chicken in plastic but instead in a regular normal Chinese food container because putting it in plastic container makes it chewy, if they did this, they would get 5 stars read more

The looks on the outside are SCARY! We lived in the area maybe two years and we never been. My husband was craving Chinese and we didn't want to ride to Myrtle Beach. So we braced ourselves and ordered by phone. We ordered Singapore noodles and shrimp rolls. I personally thought it had too much meat (I know right, I'm complaining about too much meat).. my husband however didn't complain at all. This place is a very cool. My hubby, son, and I wanted asian soup. We just drove in from Greenville SC...it was a little after 9pm. A family of about 7 had just finished eating and left...we were the only customers. I asked the lady what time they closed and she said around 10 (score!). My son wanted the buffet so when he was done getting his food, the lady, Margaret Zeng, asked him if he wanted crab rangoons. My son said no but how cool are they that they were going to make him some fresh! I wanted soup and Margaret asked me all kinds of questions on what and how i wanted the soup. I ordered a special combo of wontons and vegetable soup..it was huge and delish...they only charged me $ 4.95! My husband ordered a cantanese chowmein and that plate was huge too and tasted awesome. They serve family style. The waiter was very friendly and charming. The cook served our food and was very nice and sweet. Margaret was sooooo very friendly and engaging. Ordered General TSO Chicken for takeout and had to throw it out. The chicken pieces were as hard as rocks. You couldn't even get a fork through them. It's as if they took leftovers and cooked them all over again so as not to waste them. The fried rice was stale. This has happened before but this time it was the last. They have lost a customer. I've been a regular here for 5+ years. The past year and a half has gone down in quality and reliability. 5 years ago I wouldve given much more stars but lately my orders seem to be wrong. I order the same dish each time and everytime it has different ingredients. Sometimes its decent and others its downright awful. I tried to purchase a small order of rice they charged me for it and gave one large which was suppose to account for the small I get with the dish and my purchased one. He told me that two smalls fit on a large. Wrong just looking at them there is no way. They do try to right the wrongs but it's getting old and I do not think I will be going back again. kind of a bummer. i was stoked about being in the middle of nowhere & having the option for "Asian". i was hungrier than i expected upon arrival and made the classic mistake of getting the buffet here. not to sound stuck up or whatever, but i should have scanned the place & observed who also was getting the all-you-can-eat option. two females who must have weighed a quarter ton together were loading up cheap styrofoam trays with: chicken wings, fried dough, meat on a stick, mini spare ribs, the worst eggrolls i have ever eaten, etc. i had hoped to eat at least "american style" chinese, rather than food to clog your arteries instantly. this is what i got for twelve bucks - white rice, rubbery string beans, broccoli in a bland white sauce, & "egg rolls" that were at the same time thick/overfried/cold. there was no use of even canned mushrooms, baby corn, bamboo or water chestnuts. i brought home some low grade chunks of flank steak home for my dog (but was sure to wash the msg off before feeding him). i was full, but all the same felt gipped and empty. if i eat there again i'll order al la carte - it's hard to screw up Ma Po Tofu. read more

We ordered takeout from Zengs on April 4, 2014. It was a mistake. The Asian family who owns it look like they have run it for a long time. They seem to focus on quantity and ignore quality. We ordered hot and sour soup, spring rolls, fried rice, General Tso's chicken and chicken with snow pea pods. We like Chinese food. But, neither of us have any expertise with it. So, our expectations weren't very high. And we have to say that even these low expectations weren't met. The food was pretty bad. the soup was decent. The rest was poor. The spring rolls were fried in old or cheap oil. The chicken with snow pea pods had quality vegies and mushrooms. But, the sauce was gummy. My Gen. Tso's chicken was the same. Everything tasted and smelled of the oil. Neither of us finished our meals and we threw out a lot of leftovers since it was so disgusting. They need a complete overhaul or they should go out of business. If Yelp had a no-star rating we would choose it! read more

Good food I'm picky about Chinese, since MSG sets off massive migraines for me. I love this place! The buffet is great and fresh with lots of real veggies and fruit. What a great option for a small town. The chicken wings here are THE BEST! The buffet has plenty of options with traditional Chinese favorites and some good old American favorites for those that are nervous about venturing out and trying something different. Take out orders are speedy and the portions are plentiful. While reading the previous review I have to wonder if we ate at the same place. My family eats here almost weekly and there are always tons of fresh veggies. Take it from a local you will love this place! read more
