I was never a big fan of arepas. My friend and I came for a late lunch on Tuesday. There were plenty of seats available, and we were seated close to the entrance. The staff was friendly, and our server in particular was clearly passionate about Venezuelan cuisine and was excited for us try to their dishes. My friend ordered their pulled pork arepa, and I ordered one of their rice plates. The arepa was filled to the brim. It was full of beans, meat, and topped with cheese. My plate was absolutely delicious and its aroma filled the restaurant. The meat was tender, well seasoned, and saucy. The plantains were pan fried to perfection, tender and sweet. The beans were flavorful. I could have just that with rice all day. Writing this review is making my mouth water. Maybe I should return there soon!

Food: solid 8/10 Service: 8/10…read more My only reason for the 3 star review is because this establishment charges gratuity without informing the person. There is clearly a tip option at the bottom so I ended up paying double tip. It is common practice for the restaurant to inform the consumer when they do this. Please consider letting your customers know.

If I'm Uptown on Dyckman late night, this is my go-to spot, no question. When that hunger hits…read moreafter hours, this place delivers every single time. The cheese sticks are a must when you visit. They are perfectly breaded, fried golden, crispy on the outside and melty on the inside. They come out hot, stretchy, and exactly what you want late at night. Their empanadas? Fire. The beef is juicy and packed with flavor, the chicken one is tender and well-seasoned, and that pink sauce... yeah, that sauce is elite. Creamy, tangy, with just enough kick to make you keep dipping until it's gone. I also ordered the chicken cachapa -- soft, slightly sweet corn pancake, stuffed generously and cooked just right. It's comforting, filling, and hits different when you're craving something authentic. Also on a late night on Dyckman, doesn't get better than this. The juices are fresh and refreshing, the perfect balance to everything savory. Service is quick and straight to the point, exactly what you need whether you're grabbing takeout or sliding into one of the small tables to eat in. The spot itself is small and cozy, no-frills, real neighborhood vibes all day. Overall, this is a classic Dyckman late-night Venezuelan staple. Great food, quick service, and flavors that always come through. If you know, you know.

This was a really good sandwich. I also picked me up some green sauce to go. Customer service was good, I was allow to sample a drink called Papelon and it quite refreshing. It had the taste of a lemonade and tea mixed together. The restaurant is big enough to dine inside or out with bathroom availability. I would definitely visit this place again for more dishes that I'm not familiar with. I'm giving thumbs up and Happy Yelping!

We tried the mixed ceviche (squid, fish, octopus), 1/2 fried chicken with plantains, and 1/2 rotisserie chicken with fried rice. I would highly recommend all three of these dishes. The ceviche was fresh, simple, and very refreshing; it's a small portion and meant to be shared as an appetizer. Both types of chickens were very flavorful and moist. I don't normally like plantains, but the plantains here were perfectly cooked, lightly fried, and sweet. I have been recommending this place to family and friends and can't wait to go back myself. Service: Service was excellent. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Our water was filled constantly without having to ask them. Multiple staff members came by throughout the meal to ask us if we needed anything. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size with tables for both small and large groups. The place does get packed during peak meal times. Seating is spacious and comfortable as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant!

I was not super impressed by my food, however. I 'built my own dish' which came with a side of white rice. It truthfully didn't have any flavor, but I did eat it cause I paid so I'm gonna eat, y'know? I did try a little of someone else's chicken tenders and those were actually pretty good. From my understanding, they have a couple of locations and I was told that the food is very good. It is very possible that I ordered the wrong thing, but just beware. I would be open to trying this place again and maybe not building my own dish next time, haha.

The lady did ask very nicely if I wanted to wait for a fresh batch, but I declined. I ended up choosing the shredded chicken and the ham and cheese flavors. The ham and cheese was okay, but when I went to grab the chicken one, it broke apart instantly. When it opened, I saw what looked like a squished ball of chicken! it was soooo disappointing! It also looked really dry. I didn't even eat it. Two stars cause the lady was nice :)

And at $3.25 or $3.50 for a large, well-filled empanada, it must be the best bang for your buck anywhere in Manhattan. I'm personally very partial to the berenjena y queso (eggplant and cheese) version, which has a lovely, creamy filling, and the pollo/queso/crema/maiz version, where all the components are in perfect balance. For more deep fried deliciousness, the bolas de yuca and caprichos are just as they should be: beautifully crisp and golden on the outside, creamy on the inside with generous amounts of filling. And of course, I still love the patacon and cachapas, but only when divested of the creamy orange goop on top. If you forget to ask for your food without sauce, everything comes drowned in an inedibly large volume of the stuff. Health food this is not. In fact, I feel like this food should be eaten on the buddy system only: Have someone on hand to call 911 for you in case it induces cardiac arrest. Off to detox with a kale-ginger-cucumber drink. I feel... a little......... faint.............
