Came here for lunch. My friend suggested this spot. I'm a fan of Peruvian food and I usually get the roasted chicken. Once we entered, we were seated at our table; there is a good amount of seating inside. I ordered from the lunch menu, which consists of an appetizer, main and dessert. I started off with the empanada de queso which was very cheesy and tasty. For my main, I got the half rotisserie chicken which comes with two sides, I got the rice and salad. The chicken was solid and the green sauce and hot sauce mixed together made for a nice dip for the chicken. Also got a pitcher of this purple drink, forgot what it was called but it was good. For dessert I got the tres leches cake, which was the right amount after the big meal. The portion size is very big and for the price ($14.75), you cannot beat that. Absolutely amazing!!! Hands down my new go to Peruvian restaurant yet!! First off, it's BYOB!! How great is that?! They provide glasses so bring whatever drink you desire. The establishment is clean and well kept up, the service was excellent, my server was so lovely and kind. The food came out so unbelievably fresh too! I ordered Lomo Saltado and it came out piping hot and flavorful! The chaufa was so well made, fresh, very well seasoned too. Their food portion sizes are great for the value, and well presented. They also serve house made bread, and provide roasted corn with green sauce and salsa (both of which were delicious). From the ambiance, to the service, and the food, 5 stars all the way around. Ordered and pickup up a limo saltado and chaufa but were completely tasteless. The food was horrendous.

I went to La Kausa for dinner and ordered the Arroz con Mariscos. This was a Peruvian style paella with seafood, and it was good, but not as flavorful as some other paella dishes that I've had. A few small points for improvement: the rice didn't have the creaminess that I've liked from other paella dishes and the seafood was not as plentiful as I would have liked. I also tried the Empanada de Mariscos (seafood) and Empanada de Carne (meat). The exteriors of both had the right amount of crispiness, while the interiors were average in quality. The service speed was very slow. In addition, although our waitress did check in on us once, we were never offered to have our waters refilled even though we finished them early on in our meals. That being said, the staff members were very friendly. You can tell that this is a local place because many of the staff and customers seemed to know each other and spoke Spanish with each other in a very friendly manner. There is plenty of seating inside the restaurant. Overall, La Kausa is a good local spot for authentic Peruvian food. I would recommend it to anyone looking for Latin American food in the North Bergen area. read more

Their Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian Fried Rice) is amazing!!! My husband and I are absolutely obsessed with their Arroz Chaufa with chicken (around $14). It is SO flavorful every single time! The ingredients taste very fresh. That green sauce is addicting. And the portion is huge. Oh and La Kausa delivers. What more could you ask for? Their Lomo Saltado is also good but not the best I've ever had. The beef is super tender but the sauce tasted a little watered down. Multiple waiters attend you and they were all extremely nice and attentive. They really paid attention to us and were very personable and sweet. Then, it took an hour for the main entrees to come out. There were tables that were sat after us and got their food first. My husband's entree came out first and then mine came after another 10 minutes. We would have no problem if they were just busy, but all other tables got their food first. This place is super authentic Peruvian. The food is delicious and the staff is very genuine and welcoming. I ordered the ceviche de pescado on a weekend afternoon. Considering that other upscale NYC restaurants will get the ingredients wrong or add too much salt, this restaurant had the perfect blend of ingredients in their ceviche, and a nice family atmosphere to compliment it. Let's start saying that the ambient is nice, big TV at the end wall with usually soccer games and the personnel is very helpful and friendly. The food has its ups and downs. All the appetizers were very good, the Causa de Pollo, Cebiche and overall the Palta (avocado) Rellena. I was not that hungry so I ordered a Sopa Minuta... uauh!, what a good tasty soup; it has angel hair, beef and an excellent broth. The low part were my wife and brother entrees... they each ordered a Lomo a lo Pobre ($17.99) a dish with a sirloin, fried eggs and french fries... it shouldn't be that hard, right?. Well, the piece of sirloin was one third fat!. Not an appealing look at all. For the price, I was expecting a better quality of meat. The food is good here for sure but it is a bit over priced for Peruvian food. The homemade bread at the beginning is yummy and comes out warm. The steak is tender and juicy in the lomo which is a plus. The causas are also really good. As a Peruvian I enjoyed the various hot sauces they had.
