Came here for a day trip into beacon and was happily impressed by the food! We got the Falafel Wrap and the Za'atar fries. The fries were well seasoned and the wrap was filling. The portions were very good for the price. The place was really packed around 3:30PM Saturday so you may have to wait a bit if you're coming in on a weekend. They don't take reservations. I grew up in a middle eastern household and I must say this is not authentic cuisine. Not to mention that me and two of the other people I came with got food poisoning afterwards. Some of the meat was raw and the vegetables were overcooked. The staff was also not very nice and the restrooms were very dirty. In my other life I was raised on the Mediterranean. Nothing really makes me as happy as enjoying an array of dips and bites than the Mediterranean cuisine. My sister, nephew and I had gone for a two hour hike to see the Cornish Estate Ruins. We had built up an appetite. We walked around the main street in Beacon when my sister spotted Ziatun. There were some people in the window enjoying all kinds of delicious food. We need not search any further for lunch options. We had found the clear winner. It was sort of full for a small space but still felt rather safe. We decided on the "Futur Sampler" hummus, foule ( fava beans with herbs and other tasty items), baba ghanoush, falafel, turnips, salad, za'atar. I also ordered the feta and olives which $3 for each addition. This came with two pitas. And we did decide on an order of fries. My sister ordered the rose water tea. And with my yelp check in I got a free Arabic coffee. Arabic coffee is not an every day kind of coffee. It comes super thick. This one had ground cardamom. I loved the tiny pot it came in and the two demi tasse cups. I also ordered the semolina cookie that had a prune filing. And since we were treating ourselves after our hardwork I got an IPA. I know. I am doing all the things. Everything arrived in a timely fashion. The clientele was all courteous of volume. The food arrived in all its's splendor. I adored the spread. My nephew was drawn more to the french fries, as a nine year old would. I enjoy assembling the perfect bites with a little hummus, some chunk of falafel with a Za'atar sprinkle and a little olive oil. I was in heaven. The feta was so creamy. Real legit feta is so lovely that the grocery store feta should be called something else. My coffee was super strong. I did have to remind the waitress about the coffee. And before I could even order the cookie, the waitress brought us our check. That's my only pet peeve. I really don't like getting the check until I ask for it or they ask if I need anything else and if I say no then the check can come out. The people next to us ordered the same spread and they still ordered entrees. I ordered my cookie and the check was adjusted to charge me for one. She did say they were $3 for one or $5 for two. While I was sipping the coffee and pulling some of the cookie from bag (why was it in a bag instead of a plate?) the cookie slipped out and fell on the floor. We asked for another cookie and my sister ended up paying for that second cookie for me. I would like to come back and try some other dishes. I think the quality of the food is really up there. The ambience was also wonderful. And I think the pricing is also fair. I do recommend checking out the restaurant if you are ever in the area. They even set up some tables out in the front. It feels popular so maybe call ahead in the busier time of the season. read more

My husband and I had a delightful meal at Ziatun recently! The food came out fast and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We've never had authentic Palestinian food before and although it all sounded familiar to some Greek classics, everything really had a different flavor. Lemon and cinnamon were present in some of the flavor profiles which we both loved and felt really warmed up the dishes in a unique way. The main standout for me was the babaganoush which I usually find sour and bitter from most Greek places but this one was so pleasant, almost sweet and savory. I was fully expecting not to like it as I usually don't but everything we tried was spectacular. We had the Futur Medley which was vegan friendly and the stuffed grape leaves. We ordered extra pita and a shared a very fairly priced bottle of delicious white wine. The meal was affordable and the service and ambiance were perfect for our date night. We came here for lunch on a Saturday. We were seated immediately. Social distancing measures were being observed, staff were in masks, and we were required to wear masks when inside the cafe. We ordered the halloumi plate, futur sampler, while my husband had the chicken shawarma. The halloumi plate was simple and delicious, but you can't really go wrong with halloumi cheese. The futur sampler, consisting of zaatar, falafel, hummus, baba ghanouj, salad, foule, and pickles, was the best thing we had. I loved the dips and falafel. They also served it with pita bread on the side. These two dishes were more than enough for us to eat and be full, but my husband got chicken shawarma to eat as well. He said it was only average. The food here is really good; they have a lot of unique dishes, and the atmosphere is quite nice. The place is small, so plan to wait on a busy night. One issue is largely with the service, which can be hit or miss. Many of the people who work there are exceptionally nice, but there are some people are rude. The owner himself can be a bit caustic at times, but he's a generally good guy (he owns/has owned a number of places in Beacon and as you can often see in his responses, he carries a bit of a chip on his shoulder). My other main issue is that for what it is, despite being quite good, is very expensive, especially for very small portions. So, if you like to eat light or go with small plates, and you are an easy going person, it's worth a shot. I probably only go here 1-2 times a year because it's just too expensive for a regular thing for me. Also, if you pay with card, they charge an extra 3-4% (fees for CC companies can get very expensive, so I get it), so try to pay wit cash to save a few bucks. Also, watch out for hidden service charges. They've been known to sneak those in there, and people accidentally tip even more. read more

I really like Mediterranean food especially grilled lamb. So, I was excited to find Ziatun and make it my first meal in Beacon. I ordered the lamb wrap and asked if I could have the lamb medium. I was told yes. I chose hummus over fries. While the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, it was clear that the lamb wasn't fresh. Note was it medium. It had chewy bits of fat and gristle that made the wrap hard to bite. I'm guessing the meat had been around a while since I had tummy trouble later. The shop is lovely and the staff is friendly. You can hear Everyone's conversations unfortunately. Young Adults trying to figure out the difference between Babaganoush & Babushkah... The solo host/waitress was working hard & very polite. Got the $17.99 Kofte Platter (with rice & tomato/cucumber salad) came out fast. Everyone's food there (app spreads, etc.) looked fresh & good. However, my food was pretty average/bland. Not much 7-spice blend in the Kofte beef/lamb skewers, the rice was fluffy (hint of rose, maybe cardamom?), tomato/ cucumber salad was missing some brightness. Yogurt sauce added some flavor, but wasn't anything special. The place was busy, I liked the Palestinian Multi-Restauranteur's story that was framed on the wall; but expected a bit more punch. Semolina cake in the display looked ok, but was actually only half-soaked in syrup. That might be the theme- halfway there; skimming the surface. not sure if there were too many different cultures mixed in to the restaurant. EXACTLY what I needed... I saw a hudson valley page post the Zataar fries on social media. From that moment on all I could think about was getting Ziatun. A beautiful sunny day. My father and I sat outside . The view of Mt.Beacon while I sipped my delicious Sauvignon Blanc. People watching all the life walking passed. We had the rice bowls, which includes salad, hummus, and pickled vegetables. I usually don't like pickled vegetables but I ate everything.
