I can't recommend Zier Pools enough. We recently had an issue with a weak spa jet, and even though we realized we were a few weeks outside of our warranty window, they didn't hesitate to help. Matt was super cool and made sure we were taken care of immediately. He sent out the plumbers who quickly identified the issue (a rock blocking the jet) and got it fixed. The only mistake we made in going with Zier Pools was that we didn't decide to do it 5 years ago! We worked with Jay Zier and he was such a pleasure to work with. PLEASE READ - Experience with Zier Pools (Apologies for the length) We can be high maintenance; I'm going to start with that.  We expect quality and hold contractors accountable to their promises.  Over the last year we have partnered with Zier for a major backyard remodel.  What began as a demolishing and rebuild of our existing pool morphed into a far larger project, complete with retaining walls and additional complexity.  We have done multiple similar sized projects in our life (each time more stressful than the next).  But this experience was far different from the past. Tim Zier was astonishingly patient; sticking with us when we changed course.  He also exhibited this restraint when we had issues with the work.  Over a year remodel it's inevitable that both parties will, at times, get on each other's nerves.  Tim was always professional and solutions oriented.  When we disliked the tile colors, rather than point fingers, Tim worked on fixing rather than arguing.  I never once, in a year, felt that Tim was frustrated with us. Spending a moment talking about the Zier team.  We found Zier through a friend who told me they "showed up like an assembly line, predictable, with each person knowing their role."  And he was dead right!  Last week, when the work started to wind down, my wife and I looked at each other and said, "I'm kind of going to miss these guys in the back."  They are, in a word, exceptional.  Week on week they showed up at 6:58am, ready to start at 7:00am.  Save for their lunch break, they were ALWAYS working; no grab ass going on with this crew.  No cursing, no bad behavior; just positive attitudes with competency in their approach.  They took immense pride in their trade too.  After spending 14 days meticulously measuring and laying tile, the lead mason asked me in broken English, "How do you like my work?" We bought a brand new house in Escondido and wanted to build a pool. We met with Matt B. with Zier Pools after consulting with a few other pool companies to design our pool. Clearly we hadn't a clue about what a pool would cost, but Matt worked with our budget and steered us in the right direction! In short order we went from totally deflated to elated! We went back and forth with design concepts for about 2 weeks before settling on something that we truly loved. The cool part about the design process is that he sat down with us and did real-time edits to the 3D CAD design. You can tell that Matt genuinely loves his job! Zier Pools was great to work with. Matt and his team were absolutely wonderful and incredibly responsive each time I reached out with any questions or concerns. The communication throughout the process was clear on what would be done and when and what steps were remaining. Once the permit was approved, the building of the pool happened in a very timely manner, considering we were still in the middle of a global pandemic. We broke ground in February, made four incremental payments at certain project milestones, and we were swimming by June. It probably would have been completed faster but they were limited because of the supply chain fiasco at the time, which was beyond their control. Also as a result, we weren't able to select our desired coping material because the stone tiles were stuck on a container ship. But Matt worked with us and suggested a very attractive alternative and I think it actually turned out for the better. We did encounter one setback/mistake, a very subtle one that I didn't even notice until Matt pointed it out to me. He was very upfront and transparent about what happened and offered multiple options on what they can do in order to make us completely satisfied. We agreed on a solution and problem solved! No business is perfect, but this is how great companies stand out from the rest. Other than that, we couldn't be happier with our pool. We had so many pool parties over the summer that we lost count. We recently had a few pool/spa lights go out as well the valve acuator. I was initially frustrated with the wait time for new lights and actuator replacement (which was out of Zier's control, Pentair issue). In an impulsive moment, I temporarily posted a one star update for Zier on a Saturday night for these issues that were out of their hands. That night, Jay and Tim Zier called me and continued to work to solve my issues even on a Sunday morning. Once I spoke with Jay, he had already arranged for a Pentair tech to replace both the light and acuator within a day. Despite the parts being months beyond 3 year warranty, Zier took care of this and I regret ever posting a low rating (even temporarily). Zier goes beyond the call of duty for their customers in a way that no other business does and of course cannot control all of the issues with Pentair parts/repair schedules. We wrapped up our pool project with Zier Pools last weekend and we couldn't help resist sharing our experience working with Zier Pools and team. SUMMARY Zier Pools is fantastic and have been a blessing for this project. Building a pool is just not construction - its a work of extreme precision, coordination and only someone who is extremely passionate about this with skilled workers can make it happen. Zier Pools team are excellent in every aspect - customer service, quality of work, timeliness, clarity of budget and their love and passion to keep their customer happy. We are glad we decided to go with Zier Pools. I am providing my detailed experience below in building a big pool., spa and also a deck n firepit. DETAILS We spent ~2 to 3 months in 2020 talking to different pool companies, working on different designs and understanding the pros and cons of each company. After talking to about 4-5 different companies, I had shortlisted Majestic Pools and Premier Pools as my two options. While Majestic had some good design insights, their customer service was unresponsive (they couldn't keep up with the demand in calls and weren't proactive). Premier Pools had amazing customer service but timelines, design insights seemed blurry. A friend of mine insisted I talk to 'Tim Zier' @ Zier Pools. We ended up talking to Tim and this is the highlight of what followed since that meeting PRE-CONSTRUCTION - Tim didn't have availability for 2 weeks+ but helped accommodate since he knew I was on a strict timeline - Tim and Zier pool's prompt response and details in the initial quote was very impressive. - Tim and Zier pools team were clear about Covid issues with getting permits, setting expectations, and kept me updated regularly. While we had clarity in design, Tim did suggest a couple of changes, asked questions to coach us to the right decisions. CONSTRUCTION - Prep: We had neighbor issues and it was critical for our neighbors to understand some stuff better so they could approve fence removal for Bobcats to go through. Jay Zier (owner) personally came over along with Tim and helped alleviate those concerns - Design changes: The day the digging began Tim and Jay asked us if we had design changes. We reduced our pool size by 20% and Jay was very clear and supported this decision. He shared that he wanted us to be happy. This trend from Tim and Jay continued through the last day - we made several changes --- added a fire feature, added specific requests on material for fire features, firepit, unusual choice on tiles --- they supported all that with their honest feedback, follow on addendums and being very clear on pros and cons of each decision. The best thing through this process was they ensured that we could make a decision with the least $$ impact and highest RoI in quality of work and time. - Work: We hit several roadblocks through the way - equipment change, plumbing line changes, material availability, etc. Zier Pools proactively worked on sharing the specific issue, the impact on time and $$ as well as workarounds, if any. - Material Selection: We took a little longer than usual in the final selection of our material - Zier pools helped with changing themes, selection and accustomed to working it out with us on $$, timeliness and design choices. - FIRE PIT and DECK: We also worked with them with an update in plans to install a firepit and deck with specific requirements for the type of material, design choice etc. - they did is seamlessly. FINAL STAGE We were anxious to get our job done sooner but Zier Pools team helped set expectations on right timelines, amount of time it takes to do the tile assembly, lack of material availability (thanks to Covid's surge in demand !!) etc. Once everything was complete, Jay Zier, the owner ensured that one of his guys comes over the weekend and help start the pool machine on. Overall, Pool construction is an extremely extensive process that requires precision in demos, digging, tiles assembly (this one is a piece of art !) and final plaster. Zier Pools has different teams that work on each phase - every single team is phenomenal. We couldn't be any happier in being through this journey with Tim and Jay. Kudos to Tim Zier, Jay Zier and Gerry Hernandez. The final product becomes a lifetime memory for the family, kids, friends to enjoy - Zier Pools and team ensures that aspect of the construction every step of the way. Zier pools was one of three bids we got, and while it was the most expensive of the three, it had the clearest vision. It was also the only one stop shop that would do our pool, and our concrete decking. We have been working with Matt at Zier Pools since January, and the pool is now complete, with only some side projects left to complete. Working with Matt has been a breeze, lots of communication and realistic estimates of timelines and costs. He has been super flexible about making changes throughout the process, and has made some brilliant design suggestions that we would have never thought of. It has been really cool seeing all of these good ideas come together and come to life. We did light grey concrete decking, with dark grey concrete coping. White stacked stone, teal tile, and aqua white pebble tec. Looks so amazing. Matt also helped us build the dream BBQ island, it is so sick. No need to search any further, you just found the awesome pool builder that you've been looking for! They deserve a 10 star rating! From the moment you first meet Jay Zier and his team, you will know that you're in good hands. They are extremely professional, prompt and polite. They will help you design the yard of your dreams! I'm sure you've heard plenty of horror stories of other pool companies who start projects and then have days that turn into weeks where no one shows up. Well, that's most definitely NOT how Zier rolls. Jay said our project would take 3 months and they finished it not only on time, but EARLY. There was never one day where we waited and wondered when they were going to show up. It was quite the opposite! Every morning, the various Zier crews would arrive a few minutes before 7am and begin working immediately. We were blown away by their efficiency. While one crew would be finishing, the next would be starting. The various crews were polite and respectful. The Zier team could not have been more professional during all stages of the process. From our initial meeting, to "demo day", to the last tree being planted, Jay and his rock star team where accessible and dependable. Yes, I would choose them all over again. Jaws drop when they walk into our yard. Their craftsmanship is as good as it gets. This was at the top of our family bucket list and Zier Pools brought it to life. Zier Pools was Awesome! We had various quotes and some were way out of budget with minimal build! Tim Brown came in and gave us a solid quote , reasonable and addressed our main issues and requests. He designed us an amazing free form pool with all the works. We wanted a Waterfall, Jacuzzi, LED lights, Saltwater , Pebble Tec, fire features etc....the works. Tim was on it , he informed us of the process throughout the build, he always answered or called back promptly with any questions or concerns we had . Everyone on the Zier Pools team we encountered was very professional and diligent in the craft and hard dedicated workers. The pool coping is great, pool tile is clean, rock work very precise. I highly advise you give Tim at Zier Pools a call he is an excellent project manager and will lead you every step of the way! Our pool Started March and Ended mid June.
