Service from Cheyenne was some of the best anywhere in a long time. She gave great flavor recommendations and was on it with keeping drinks full and attentive for a busy night. But then she literally never came back to take a food order. Watched her go to all the other tables, watched her clean off the bar, watched her answer a phone call for a takeout order, and then I finally went up to the bar and asked her if we could put in a food order. Once the food was ordered it came out quickly. My husband's smashburger and candied pecan salad were both really delicious. I am a sucker for a local food item whenever I see it on the menu, and I made the mistake of ordering the cashew chicken poutine. The cashew sauce had zero flavor and was just overly salty. The menu reads like a dare. Everything "spiced correctly," they boast. No timidity here. So I went big. Our waitress heard our compliments and brought us a free side of spicy cabbage just to show off what else the kitchen could do. That's confidence. That's family. Mama G's is not a restaurant. It's a relative's house where you happen to pay at the end. It's a taste of the South, a taste of something real, a taste of lovely.
