This never happens but we ended up leaving after 1 1/2hours. When we arrived we saw they were busy but they seated us an no warning about the expected wait. They came by and gave us menus and took drink orders very quickly. When the brought the drinks I wasn't quite ready to order so server went away. After 20 or so minutes hubby went in and gave our order. We waited an hour and spoke to server. They said it would be 15 more minutes. We spoke to another server and ended up leaving. Nobody apologized. Nobody acknowledges that we had been sitting at their table for 1 1/2 hours. We ended up going out for lunch at Brightwood tavern. We know that would be a good choice. :). Delicious place; cozy atmosphere; and very prompt, friendly and competent service. Impressive, cozy log building with gorgeous live-edge wooden tables at the base of Mt. Hood. Our food and coffee was perfect: home-cooked and came to our table right away. We got there at 8am on a Saturday and this definitely seemed like a good way to beat the crowds and enjoy the calm atmosphere. 100% recommend! read more

We've been before and I don't know why I didn't leave a review before. The guy that owns this also works it every weekend. He restored the building from being condemned. We stopped by for a quick bite to eat. When we first sat, I noticed the tobacco sauce appeared to be completely watered down. I checked another table and the same thing. After we ordered, I saw one of the workers in the kitchen sneeze and not cover his face. I was in awe and said "are you kidding me right now?" To which the cook and another worker laughed. The food was subpar with the meat on the beef stew being VERY tough, fatty and chewy. The berry cobbler with ice cream was delicious which is why I gave 1 star. The inside of this log cabin ambiance is just gorgeous and is a well done renovation! Sit by the window for a beautiful bird's eye view of the small yet beautiful creek below. The home made biscuits are just ridiculously delicious (and I don't usually eat bread but I ate every last crumb)! Biscuit is served with house made wild berry preserves and again, I don't usually like those but this was to die for... Not too sweet and tasted like wild berries, go figure! I stayed in the area with family. We ate here 3x. The service is laid back and very kind. I'm very picky about breakfast this place is perfect for our needs. You are greeted by a friendly smile you can eat inside or outside. They allow dogs on the patio. The eggs Benedict is so good! The sauce is delicious and perfect. The eggs cooked to perfection. My husband enjoyed the pancakes. I also had the biscuits and gravy. Yes! Please! Spicy Italian sausage that's how we do it! Let's take a minute to talk about that biscuit! Big fluffy with lots of airy nooks and crannies. I was pleasantly surprised on these airy little biscuits of heaven. The jam, that's a yes please! The glory of the jam must be local or house made. Went here on a Sunday morning and waited over an hour for food. We were about to get up and leave right before they brought our food out because we noticed nobody else in the place had their food yet either and they looks unhappy as well. The place wasn't very busy at all. When the food did come out it was average, the French toast was completely burnt, like burnt burnt. But unlike other diners with crispy home fries, mine were on the soft side. My veggie scramble was a heap of flavorless egg. I guess adding cheese is the only way to get some flavor out of the food. There weren't any vegan options. I hope the service today was an anomaly. One hardworking waiter was running around as best he could to service 30 tables-an impossible task. The ambience is typical for a mountain town cafe and feels cozy with nice green trees beyond the generously-sized windows. But someone did not consider the rustic wooden tables leave no space for one's legs, because the oversized leg in the middle holding it up takes up the entire space beneath the table. Planned on going to the ZigZag Inn across the street that I have been too multiple times and the food is good and great prices. It was closed due to a staff wedding, so we went across the street to this place. It was pretty busy, waited by front of restaurant with no acknowledgement. Went up to where they were cooking and asked if we seat ourselves (a sign maybe up??), they said to seat anywhere. Then waited 10 minutes for someone to come over, wasn't sure if you were supposed to order up front. Just getting up to check when waiter came over with menus. Asked if we wanted anything to drink, my husband ordered a soda, but was told it was $6.95 for refillable? What?? No thanks. Ordered our food, and then proceeded to wait almost an hour for it to arrive. No one came by and said sorry it was taking so long, or when it would be coming out. We almost left, it was taking so long. Food finally came, and fries were ice cold and hard, almost potato chips. Burger and chicken sandwich were good, but for $17, not worth for the time to wait. Interesting little place. Very woodsy and cabin like decor. This place is supposedly really good for breakfast, but I came in for a pizza. I went inside and noticed I was the only one in the store. The inside seemed to be a bit disorganized. Not sure if they were moving around inventory or what. There were racks of t-shirts and hoodies in the front, shelves of nick knacks here and there, odd supplies for the home and so on. I noticed the tables and chairs in the back of the store. There was no waitress...so I wasn't sure if I should sit down at a table or order at the counter. An older guy behind the counter looked busy until I caught his attention. I asked him if they made pizzas. He looked at the clock as if they were closing, but then nodded and said they did. The older guy then handed me a menu. I was just needing a cheese pizza to go. A very quaint and reliable place to eat in Zigzag. Came here after a night of snowboarding looking for a big breakfast and this place delivered. Stayed in a cabin half a mile up the road and was happy to encounter this joint firsthand. First thing's first, it was warm and woody inside. There was an nice older man that sat and served us. We had coffee and ordered the Belgian waffle with eggs and the chorizo and egg tostada. Everything came promptly, which was surprising because there were only two workers and a half dozen patrons. The food was hot and exactly what I expected it to be. The waffle was both crispy and soft, perfect in every way. The tostada was crunchy and flavorful, both filling and not at all heavy. We hit this place up for breakfast and it was a great treat. The kids loved the bear shaped pancakes and we loved the biscuits and chicken fried steak. They also had a great selection to choose from for my protein diet friends. The wait staff was friendly, although they mistakenly brought us more bear shaped pancakes. Coffee was good. Food was great, biscuits were the bomb. Tip: this place has two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs in case there is a line. Come hungry and leave full. Highly recommend this place for breakfast. read more

There are always cars in the lot so we just had to check this place out. We had a friendly greeting and our waitress was very helpful. The chicken and waffles is absolutely to die for the chicken was crispy and tender and absolutely delicious is the gravy. I had the house breakfast, the potatoes were delicious but the biscuit that came with was something special it was flaky and buttery and everything could be dunked in the side of gravy. So good we ate here twice two days!! Stopped in at the local ski rental place and Zigzag Mountain Store and Cafe was recommended by a local who said it was the best breakfast around. The kicker was he said he was no longer able to eat here. We asked him why and he said because he was a vegan. Of course we had to take his recommendation, it had to be good! We had the banana pancakes, the veggie scramble, chicken and waffles and the chicken fried steak. The portions are huge and the biscuits that come with the entree are out of this world!! My only suggestion is to give yourself some time, there was only one waitress handling all the tables. Be prepared to wait a bit for your food...trust me it's worth it. We are here for another day, we should try another place but enjoyed this so much we'll probably be back tomorrow. read more

This place is located in an awesome spot by a small river and close to Welches. The staff seemed overwhelmed on our visit- not enough servers and minimal attention to customers. Orange juice was undrinkable and tasted like concentrated out of a can with too much water added. Pancakes were made with a sourdough batter and were too bitter to eat. Very, very pricey for the food and experience (over 45.00 for two people with 2 coffees, one juice, two entries). I would have complained at the time and tried to resolve the issues in person, but staff too busy to catch. I hate to leave bad reviews, I truly do, but this was such a waste of my hard earned money :( . Think it needs a bit of an overhaul. The location earned two stars- pretty spot for sure. read more
