    The beautiful entrance

Can we all just ask why the beauty of nature is being cut off by the hideous fencing??? This place knocks it out of the park with the service, the lounge area, the design. It's sooooo cozy! But that fence?!?! What are we thinking. Owners, let's bring this incredible place up to the next level and knock these walls down. There's plenty of options to keep the pool fenced in with an open view. There are plenty of contractors in the surrounding area that can support an upgrade! I'm only giving 3 stars out of 5 bc of the fencing. You deserve a 5! Hear my picket... KNOCK DOWN THE FENCE!!! KNOCK DOWN THE FENCE!! Haha!

    Hot pool.

We had really high hopes for this place after hearing about it from friends. Walking in, the place is old but cute. There's a game room for the kids and pool tables and picnic benches. The staff is incredibly friendly. But the first thing we noticed was that there were no showers available to rinse off before and after getting out of the pools. Apparently there were some in the back pool area but they were closed off and unavailable for use. It started off good upon entering the hot pool. It's only about 2 feet deep and quite warm but felt great on a cold, snowy winter day . It was so hot we could only soak for a few minutes at a time, so we would then get into the larger swimming pool. Upon first entering the larger pool, I couldn't help but notice all the green algae bits and wads of hair floating in the water. I didn't think much of it at first until I started swimming towards the deeper end of the pool. That's when things really started to go downhill. I couldn't help but notice all the thick, green algae that coated the walls and bottom of the pool. It was actually disgusting. You couldn't touch the walls with your hands or feet because the slime was so thick. We quickly realized it probably wasn't a good idea to go underwater or even stick our face in the water. I wouldn't even venture a guess as to how long it had been since the larger pool had been cleaned. Both of the pools were quite worn and pitted too. We enjoyed our time there for the most part, but most likely will not return simply because the larger pool was just that bad.

Place is dope, hot springs are super big. Very hot tub then large warm pool with a basketball hoop. Would recommend

The road gets pretty windy once you hit Copperfield, but the views of Hells Canyon and Snake River are worth it! There are quite a few pull-outs to stop and take pics. We also passed numerous campground and picnic options. We enjoyed driving over the dam and taking pictures from both sides. Such beautiful views! If you follow the road to the end, passed the dam about 0.5 mile, you come across the visitors center. It was closed when we arrived, but we did enjoy watching the rafters and kayakers from the back deck. Would highly recommend a visit!

To access the dam, you pick up Hells Canyon Road at Copperfield (if coming from the Oregon side) and snake your way up along the Hells Canyon Reservoir for about half an hour. It's a scenic drive that offers plenty of places to pull off and swim, and quite a few trailheads for hikes up into the Idaho side of the canyon. The route takes you along the base of some very steep cliffs and overhangs, and you can tell by the dents in the blacktop that there are often rockfalls along here. My wife was white-knuckling it during most of the ride out. The dam itself is nothing too spectacular, but it does sit in a very scenic spot on the river. Once you cross the dam, the road ends in a boat launch, and this is where the adventure begins. Here you can put in for kayaking, rafting and drift-boat floats down the canyon. Fishing abounds. The dam itself has a little visitor's center with historical photographs and a couple of Idaho Power employees who can answer questions. We were able to get some good info on road quality for our forthcoming drive up the forest service roads into the Wallowas. Super helpful! If you're not floating or fishing or otherwise using the recreation side of the river, there's not a whole lot to do here other than learn about the dam and take in some pretty scenic views from the canyon floor. It's almost more about the views on the drive in. And you'll be seeing them again on the drive out, as there's nowhere to go from here but back the way you came.

This little hidden jewel of a town is located in NE Oregon. The city of Joseph was incorporated in 1887 and named after Nez Perce Chief Joseph who is buried there at Wallowa Lake. The population of Joseph is approximately 1000. The economy was primarily based on agriculture and timber until the 80's when 3 Bronze foundries opened and artists and galleries came to inhabit the town. The streets are lined with beautiful side walks and life size bronze statues. There are many art galleries and shops with unique items. A couple miles out of town is Wallowa Lake which offers camping, shopping, hiking, boating, restaurants, a tram and wildlife viewing in a breath taking setting. In July, Joseph hosts the Chief Joseph Days rodeo, in August the Bronze, Blues and Brews Festival and in September Alpenfest which is a Swiss-Bavarian festival at Wallowa Lake. People refer to Wallowa Lake as "Oregon's Little Switzerland". The people of are so nice here too. I could go on and on about this town and the area so if you have questions feel free to ask. This place was nestled among trees, cabins, barns and a whole lotta nothing. Don't expect bathrooms or running water here. Just a pool with a gravel bottom with wooden railings + wooden steps to walk in. Reservations are made online here and offer them in 2 hour time blocks at $20 per person. Once we got inside to the check in desk, there was no one to be found. Perhaps this place is based on the honor system? If that's the case then this must be an Idaho thing. During our entire time here, I don't believe we saw a single employee. Just people like us in the pools. There was a small dressing room with dim lighting for you to change in. If you're looking for a spot to put your things, feel free to plant them on the benches surrounding the pool. Bare bones here is how I would describe it. Minus all the luxury amenities, here's what you do get: A true rustic country experience soaking in mineral water that does make your body feel absolutely amazing. The larger pool is between 100-113°F depending on where you are located. This is where I stayed because I couldn't handle any hotter than this. If you go up to the top 2 enclosed pools, those are at a steady 113°F . Nope, not for me. I wasn't about getting cooked. There is a cute little tub located a few feet away from the large pool that is fed by a pipe. This is the least hot of all the pools and just a fun thing to do for pics. We fit 2 of us in there and we were just fine. 3 would be pushing it. Would I come back? Yes if I'm ever out in the middle of Idaho.

Little did we know that was the only "great" of the evening. Water and menu's arrived after 10 minutes. "Server will be with you". Ha! Another 10 minutes. Caught the water guy again and asked for the wine menu. Leaves, see him consult with bar tender. Comes back and says it is in the back of menu he gave us. We say, "No, this only has wine by the glass. We are looking for "bottles". He scurries around looking at menus on other tables and then back for more consultation with bar tender. All the while I see what I think is the wine menu standing up at the end of the bar. Just as I am getting ready to go get what I think is the menu, it appears. And then the long lost server appears. We ask for a glass of rose for me and a bottle of Grgich Merlot for my husband and for dinner. He returns with glass of rose and a glass of red wine. "No, we want a bottle", we say and point to menu. More time elapses, he returns and says, "no Grgich". We had planned a back up and asked for a bottle of Walla Walla Tempernillo. Again point to menu. He disappears again, even more time elapses, and he returns with a bottle of Cabernet from the bar. So, at this point we surrender, deciding he doesn't know where the wine cellar is located, and accept the bottle. Wait. The saga continues: server returns and asks about dinner. We order. He disappears for another 5 minutes. Returns with his order pad and asks again what we would like for dinner. We order again. He appears to write order down. Salad comes. We finish it. Time elapsed. Kitchen server arrives with husband's entree. Places it between us. Bad sign. Another long wait. I tell Phil to go ahead and eat. Flag different server and ask about my entree. Original server reappears. He asks surprised. Hurries off. Time elapsed. Kitchen server arrived with another of husband's entree not mine! "No, we say we ordered steak and fries." Phil finishes his meal. Time elapsed. Finally, my steak arrives. All this time original server walks by and makes no eye contact. Bar tender comes by to clean table and offer a take away box. We decide against dessert and ask for bill. Husband goes to bar to pay bill, consults with bar tender and he goes and gets the manager. Manager excuses. Goes away and returns with new bill that removes glasses of wine and reduces entrees by 50%. The end of our fine dining experience. Laugh ourselves silly all the way to the car. Recommendations: 1. Don't plan a birthday dinner on Monday during the shoulder season at Shore Lodge 2. Just go to Salmon River Brewing Company.
