Zim's Hot Springs - New Meadows, Idaho When you first pull up to Zim's Hot Springs, you'll notice the camp spots right away -- pretty cool to see! I could definitely see myself coming back for an overnight stay next time. That said, some of the features listed on their website don't quite match what's actually there. The "bar" is basically an open Gatorade/Coca-Cola setup with a fan behind it -- more like a refreshment station than a bar. The game room, though, was surprisingly nice for what it has and adds a fun touch to the place. I was a little disappointed when I wanted to grab a beer and found out glass isn't allowed (which I totally understand), but it would've been nice to have another option. On the positive side, the place was clean, the pool was great, and the hot tub was super relaxing. Sitting there on a crisp autumn day in the mountains -- you really can't beat that view or that vibe. The meditation music was excellent. The service was nothing special. They did their job. They gave me a basket. They took my money and told me have a good day. Overall, Zim's is a solid 4 out of 5 for me. A few tweaks and updates to match their online descriptions, and it'd easily be a five-star stop. Definitely worth checking out for yourself! read more

I haven't been to many hot springs yet, but this little getaway was quite refreshing. We were visiting McCall this past week and a local friend took us to experience this hot spring. It was cold outside and I was a bit concerned, but they kept the changing area warm. I would recommend bringing your robe and some sandals or slides. Can we all just ask why the beauty of nature is being cut off by the hideous fencing??? This place knocks it out of the park with the service, the lounge area, the design. It's sooooo cozy! But that fence?!?! What are we thinking. Owners, let's bring this incredible place up to the next level and knock these walls down. There's plenty of options to keep the pool fenced in with an open view. There are plenty of contractors in the surrounding area that can support an upgrade! Tons of fun, totally recommend. The water is fantastic. Perfect temperatures selection, warm and hot. Staff are super friendly and helpful. I kind of wish they had a different fence because it hides the awesome view, and has a cheap feel but it is what it is. We had really high hopes for this place after hearing about it from friends. Walking in, the place is old but cute. There's a game room for the kids and pool tables and picnic benches. The staff is incredibly friendly. But the first thing we noticed was that there were no showers available to rinse off before and after getting out of the pools. Apparently there were some in the back pool area but they were closed off and unavailable for use. It started off good upon entering the hot pool. It's only about 2 feet deep and quite warm but felt great on a cold, snowy winter day . It was so hot we could only soak for a few minutes at a time, so we would then get into the larger swimming pool. Upon first entering the larger pool, I couldn't help but notice all the green algae bits and wads of hair floating in the water. I didn't think much of it at first until I started swimming towards the deeper end of the pool. That's when things really started to go downhill. I couldn't help but notice all the thick, green algae that coated the walls and bottom of the pool. It was actually disgusting. You couldn't touch the walls with your hands or feet because the slime was so thick. We quickly realized it probably wasn't a good idea to go underwater or even stick our face in the water. I wouldn't even venture a guess as to how long it had been since the larger pool had been cleaned. Both of the pools were quite worn and pitted too. We enjoyed our time there for the most part, but most likely will not return simply because the larger pool was just that bad. read more

Zim's is a great place. Set your expectations for a sole proprietorship, and for some rustic back country Idaho soakin', and you'll be just fine. If you come here thinking that it should measure up to some urban soakary you've visited, you're in the wrong place. The good: Adequate changing rooms, clean bathrooms, lounge chairs outside and plenty of hot water. The hot pool is set at 104*, and the large (olympic size?) pool is set at 93* This year, they had something of a sprinkler - PVC with holes drilled into it - showering super hot water into the big pool. There is a lot of camping on Zim's private land right next to the pool. There are at least 8 picnic tables sitting under shelters, and one larger shelter with several tables and electricity. The bad: The large pool had algae along the sides. I don't recall that from past years. The odd: There are some serious 80's looking game machines inside. Along with that, there is an air hockey table, and plenty of room for private parties. read more

Super dirty and lots of algae. Some owner or manager came out and yelled at us for playing with the hoop and was sarcastic and made no sense asking us how we were helping business by doing that. There was nobody but us in the pool. read more

We've been to Zim's Hot Springs before but not for years. We thought it would be fun to take our kids since the weather was chilly and the hot springs would feel great. The staff is less than helpful and not engaged with their customers. In looking at the pool, it seemed cloudy which should have been a red flag. But once in, the walls and floor of the pool were slimy and there were chunks of moss, mold and algae floating all over. Within minutes, everyone was itching and we were out! Absolutely disgusting. As soon as we were back to our place, everyone was fighting for the shower. The pool needs to be closed, drained, cleaned, disinfected and then maintained. We couldn't smell any chlorine either as you do with a maintained pool.. I wish we would have read reviews before going because we weren't the first of many terrible reviews. read more

Gross!! Pool was filled with big chunks of algae floating around and smelled like a swamp. When we complained and told them the place was not sanitary and could not possibly be up to health codes we were told we had to leave. We explained that we were leaving anyway and asked for a refund then the guy working there said no refunds and grabbed a bat from behind the counter and told us to leave again. We headed to the door and he followed us hitting the bat on his hand. When we called the sheriffs they said that this was not the first time they had been called for this kind of thing. I also contacted the Department of Health to report the filth. read more

Recently spent a few days at Zims - an incredible experience. Walking into the lodge is a step back into a more relaxed and enjoyable time. Greeted by either Jen or Mary (both fantastic!) check in is easy with several changing areas in the lodge. Zims has two soaking areas - the larger on averages around 98 degrees (quite comfortable) and the smaller one is a very therapeutic 104 degrees. Both pools are filled by geothermal water - thus 100% au natural... no chlorine or chemicals... my skin felt totally refreshed after each time in the pools. The water feeds constantly into the pools and staff works to ensure temperature is steady. The overflow goes directly into the adjacent headwaters of the Little Salmon River - an important Salmon and Steelhead fishery. Zims is now operated by the Nez Perce Tribe who values it's significant spiritual, cultural and medicinal values. Thus, the pools do have organic, natural material which some reviews mightn't understand. The crew cleans regularly and I recommend completing each soak with a rinse off shower - Zims offers an accessible hot springs experience and is very reasonably priced. For a hot springs in the middle of nowhere I have to give this place credit, they have reasonable prices, fairly clean accommodations, and a great picnic area outside. They have a small extra hot pool for relaxing and then a larger pool that is kept at a cooler temperature. The guy who runs the place isn't super friendly but if you are looking for a good place to swim and relax this is the place to do it! read more

Like others have said, if you can enjoy rustic and low key (and an owner who isn't terribly charismatic), this place is a nice stop. We actually stopped here unexpectedly and were delighted to get to soak that night (though the pool could definitely use a scrubbing.) We would recommend to others - with warnings about the cleanliness level of the pool and the port-a-potties. read more

and old school mid 20th century pool and campground about 3 miles north of New Meadows Idaho on a side road off of highway 95. It isnt real fancy but that's the way I like it! large main pool temps warm but not not ( 80s 90s), and then a good size shallow soaking pool with temps up about 104 or more for those of us who like it HOT. there are lots of basking chairs and tables near the north end of the pool. The pool showers are in small enclosed stalls open to the outdoor air along the north wall of the pool enclosure. No inside showers, but there is an indoor changing area and toilets inside. There is a very small and limited snackbar at the entry area and a few games and some big old chairs to lounge in inside but nothing fancy, at least the not time I was there a couple of years ago. Not much in the way of food establishments in New Meadows either but there IS a grocery store so at least you can buy food to bar b que or cook in your RV. the camping area isnt fancy but it has a tent area and an rv area with hookups, and a covered gazebo for groups. When you pay to camp your swimming is included. Reasonable camping rates and swimming fees. as for most hotsprings one fee for all day. read more

First off if there was an option for zero stars i would choose that. The minute we called for details about the establishment was the first and last minute of contact. We were on a family trip from Boise (who decided to take their dog to the lake) and were asking where and if we could tether the dog to the fence of the resort or otherwise so that we could have fun and watch him at the same time. The associate of the "family" owned business was about the rudest person I've ever talked to. A few questions about pricing, accommodations, and pet policy apparently was too much to ask and the man told us to "KEEP YOUR DOG AT HOME THEN" and HUNG UP. Also, refused to answer our calls afterward. I want to advise people NOT TO EXPECT GOOD SERVICE, IF ANY AT ALL. Completely ruined our afternoon. read more
