I have always been with Credit Unions. I have always received great rates, fees and service. This is until I joined Denver Community. The fees they charge are outrageous. I'm just moving to the area and looking for a good credit union to get started. Ferhat and the staff made it very easy at DCCU. I was greeted immediately and was impressed by the welcoming and modern ambiance of the lobby. Setting up an account was quick and the offices were set up with screens to follow all the steps being taken to create the account. Ferhat made me aware of several great programs that the bank offers for checking account members with incentives and savings. The whole experience took roughly 30-40 minutes, much faster than I am used to. Customer service and banking options were all great and I am convinced banking with DCCU will continue to be just as good. read more

I've been using the DCCU for two years now and I love it. Their staff is fantastic, everyone there is polite, accountable, and helpful. I'm a huge fan of Yessica, she's my favorite and I always request her. They are really good about keeping my account secure and flexible. Get ready for spam! I have been a customer for over two years and have called six times asking to stop receiving promotional mail. They come about once a week. Ads for car insurance and life insurance and credit cards. I got spam. I called. They "removed" me from the list. I got more spam. I called again. "You have already been removed." I waited two months. I got more spam. I called again and asked to speak to a supervisor. They said they had personally spoken with the marketing department and I had definitely been removed. Got more spam. Called again. They said there was a rogue vendor and they had been contacted. Got more spam. Called again. Got more spam. Closed account. read more

Than BOOM something happen I tried to get a loan for $750 and was denied. Because of a ding on my credit report. The fact I NEVER MISSED OR PAID OFF EVERY LOAN ON TIME OR EARLY MENT NOTHING. Update - I kept getting the runaround with them, so I ended up switching credit unions. Changed from 2 stars to 1 star.

I tend to move a lot due to work, and always try to have a local credit union rather than a bank. I've generally had good luck in 5 states from the south, east coast, New England, and now have moved to Colorado. This has been by far the worst credit union I have ever worked with. Last week I tried logging into my account on 2 separate days with the same credentials I always use, and was locked out of my account for the 3rd time. I called today to get the account re-activated (again), and was told that my account was not showing as locked. I logged in while on the phone, and sure enough, the same credentials allowed me to log in. I had signed up for an overdraft protection account. Due to Denver Community Credit Union withholding funds from my paychecks (only allowing $100 for about a week, even though it was my 3rd direct deposit), I had to transfer almost $200 from my overdraft account into my checking account without my knowledge. This, apparently, was where problems began. I trusted DCCU enough to not check my account constantly (even if I wanted to, I was constantly locked out of my online account, so couldn't check up on it very well anyway). I had $50 / month transferred from my checking account into my overdraft account. This was fine with me, being as the money that had been taken out was being paid back. What I didn't realize is that DCCU was charging me $30 a month in late fees for moving this money over. All in all, out of the $200 total I have taken out of the overdraft account, I have paid $175 to date back to them. When I called in today, I see that I still owe them $120. So while I took out $200, I owe them $300. 50% is a pretty high interest rate to charge, so I am paying them off today and washing my hands with them. The customer service I have received from them has been awful. I went in once to put in a money order that I had overnighted to me for an emergency situation. I explained my situation to the clerk and her manager, and thought surely having a money order would be just about the same as depositing cash, as I needed the money the next day. I made it to the bank by 4:00pm, and the bank I needed the money from was on the east coast, so 6:00pm there. I was told that the $4k money order I tried to put in could not be deposited that day, because the bank I got the money from was closed, and they could not verify that the money order was real. Thanks for that slap in the face by the way, DCCU. I asked if I could leave the money order there, and in the morning, could they call the bank and put it in, as I had to drive out of town the next morning to pay for the emergency situation. I was told that if I leave the money order, it would take a week to "process" and clear, but if I came in the next morning when they opened, I could take care of it then. I had no choice but to stay in Denver that night, go to DCCU the next morning, deposit the money order, and attempt to rush to my location the next morning. Sadly, I was too late, which resulted in the loss of a pet's life due to lack of necessary funds to pay for the emergency situation. I'm putting that on you as well, DCCU. All in all, between the less-than-par customer service at DCCU, the inconvenience of their online banking system, and the fees that spring up on you (such as charging $1 randomly for using your debit card, and a $1 fee every time you use the ATM directly in front of the credit union), I would say that this credit union has been a horrible business arrangement. I will be much happier this afternoon when my account is finally canceled, and I can be done with them. I would not recommend this bank to a friend, but perhaps to an enemy. :-) read more

DONT EVER COME HERE! We have had more issues with this company and before we got our car loan and a second loan through the company we read yelp and thought "maybe those people were just a bad" NOPE! Be warned. We have incredible credit and I'm warning you ahead of time. Let me list the issues with this company.... When you get your car loan they will ask for a declaration page from your car insurance company... Simple enough... Faxed it over...Until they call and say sorry we don't have it, 3 separate TIMES! Then you end up paying not only one insurance company but they add CPI insurance on you car loan which for us was 263$... If your unfamiliar with this type of insurance, they add it because you DONT have a current insurance... Weirdly enough we DID! When you go into the credit union to fix this, they slip you a card and say call this number. When you say can your manager do this for us and/or can we speak with him. It's like he's non existent! The girls at the counter roll their eyes and say their doing everything to help and sent an email to their manager and stated he would get back to us... You guessed it, he never did. So I call the company that made us get the second insurance through DCCU and for the 4th time sending our insurance to them (so we could get reimbursed) they say you'll have to wait 3 business days for us to retrieve the fax. In the mean time our current insurance company sent the confirmation that the company received the fax. I don't know about you but for the past 3 months now we have had headache after headache with this company. They are not helpful and everyone looks like they have no clue how to help you and at the end of the day we are now transferring our business to another company. STILL AWFUL. We will be switching to Chase. They refuse to implement chip and pin (a security measure that EVERYONE ELSE IS GOING TO!) And they keep getting compromised. Friday, I went out to dinner, went to pay for dinner and my card was DECLINED. I have the money to pay for dinner, but somehow its declined. I called today (monday) to see what the f was going on. Apparently the there was a security breach at somewhere I shop, so they cancelled my card last week (LAST WEEK AND I HAD NO IDEA!), mailed me a new card on THURSDAY. You know what would have been super freaking helpful? If someone e-mailed or called me to let me know! That would have been really helpful! That would have saved me looking like a poor shmuck that can't pay for dinner! UGH. This has happened to me a lot, where I go to pay and for some reason (other than lack of funds) my card won't work! My husbands card got owned about two weeks ago. I have worked in accounting for YEARS and I have NEVER had so many issues with one bank. This bank is problematic and reactive instead of proactive. Both our cards got compromised within the span of two weeks (and we don't even shop in the same places), they won't implement chip and pin to protect their members and then respond without any kind of urgency. I don't trust them to make good decisions regarding my finances or financial security. They won't implement chip and pin, and essentially shrug their shoulders when these kind of things happen. Below Helen responded from the bank. Its a poor excuse and while I do appreciate you "protecting my funds" that is what you are supposed to do, so great for doing your job on at least one front, thats the minimum anyone could expect, so you meet my minimum expectations. But really, you get paid to do your job, so fabulous. I had no idea as to what happened to my card until I presented it somewhere and in front of my dining party, was told it was declined. Every other credit card, bank has some sort of notification system, I even logged into my account that evening thinking there MIGHT be some sort of msg on my account, surprise surprise there was not. YOU DON'T NOTIFY YOUR BANKING CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY HAVE TO REPLACE OR STOP THE CARD THEIR MEMBERS ARE USING. YOU ARE MORE AN OBSTACLE THAN A BENEFIT, BY FAR! Also, chip and pin would have prevented my husbands card being compromised as it was an atm based issue (had you actually done some checking before responding you would have known this), so really that statement you made is completely untrue. Your response further demonstrates the lack of knowledge before acting or responding. What if I was out of town and had no other means to pay for anything???? Then what? In the last year, your bank has cancelled my card THREE TIMES WITHOUT WARNING ME OR NOTIFYING ME. I have ALWAYS had to call in and find out WTF is going on. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WONDER THIS!!!!! THE BANK IS SUPPOSED TO WORK FOR ME, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. TERRIBLE SERVICE. EXCUSES and REACTIVE INSTEAD OF PROACTIVE. Just what I want from a bank... AND why do I have to call you Helen? Why shouldn't I be able to get good service without escalating it to someone else? Of course this is all my opinion, and its my own fault for staying with you guys simply out of laziness. Like an abusive relationship, I've stayed and took it, when there is absolutely no benefit for me. I would actually think these issues are brought on by my using habits, however I use all my other credit cards at all the same places and NEVER have any issues with them being compromised, so I have to assume based on logic and deduction that the problems isn't me or my using habits, its something on your end. read more

I recently opened an account at DCCU...and I'm already looking to move to another CU. The customer service is TERRIBLE!!!! I should have realized the things to come the day I opened my account. After arriving at the location, I was "checked-in" and asked to wait for a customer service rep. After 30 minutes, I was finally ushered to a desk to open my account. That process was painless, but the unnecessary wait should have been a warning. Earlier this week, I went back into the location to deposit a check. The Teller was very nice and that wait was minimal. However, I asked her if she could assist me in changing the PIN on my debit card. She stated she could not, but would "check" me in so I could meet with a Customer Service Rep. After 25 minutes of waiting, I finally left. There was another women sitting there who had been waiting there even longer. There is no excuse for this! It would have taken the Teller less than 2 minutes to change the PIN, but they instead shove me off to a group of people who seem to have better things to do then to help me. It was a simple need, and DCCU FAILED MISERABLY!!! If I wanted to be dismissed by a financial institution, I would have stayed at my old bank. read more

The older one gets, the less he should expect from that whole 'banking experience.' Now that most transactions can be done on-line, banks/CUs are doing their best to discourage customers from dropping in, hence why they are ALL chronically understaffed with people not making a lot more than minimum wage. My only gripe was the ponderously long wait for my initial deposit check to clear--TWO WEEKS! Had the otherwise very friendly and helpful guy who signed me up told me up-front, I'd have opened my accounts with token cash deposits and continued my normal and REQUIRED transactions to flow through my old bank...instead of being strapped for two weeks!! Now that everything is in motion, I'm banking with a website that hasn't hiccuped and the Mile High APY account (5.28% interest on bankcard transaction roundups) adds up faster than you might think. What other bank offers a way to save a couple hundred bucks a year with interest higher than .1%? This has nothing to do with my experience but...Helen G...please...just...SHUT UP!! read more

WHAT JUST HAPPENED??? i just had my account closed. i had been with dccu for 30 years. had checking, membership and visa card with them. hadnt used their services in a couple of years and was told that was why they used up the money in membership for fees. then they CLOSED THE VISA AND CHECKING. sent me a check for small overpayment in visa. when i called about the closing they were soooo, i dont care, about it i was stunned. i wonder if they even care that that visa was my emergency back-up. i just took a $16,000 hit to my credit too. i loved that outfit 30 years ago but they really went to hell in last 10 years. ohhh well, i will recover from this. guess i will just go over to my bank and open a new charge card... to bad.. dccu used to be a nice place. read more

In October 2016, I purchased my very first car. While looking for my perfect car with a reasonable price, I realized I had to get a loan! Having never applied for an auto loan before I didn't even know where to start. All I knew is that I had to follow my Dads advice and go to a credit union. Without a second thought, I contacted Felisha V at Denver Community Credit Union. I knew nothing about loans and didn't even know what my credit score was. Felisha helped me with it all! She made me a priority and took the time to educate me about the in's and out's of auto loans and interest rates. She answered all my dumb questions and made sure that I was getting everything I needed. To make things difficult I purchased a car from out of state. Felisha went above and beyond and never even batted an eye while doing a little extra paperwork for the title. She made the, potentially stressful situation, quick and painless. Felisha was so patient with me and extremely kind. When Felisha was out of town she referred me to her coworker to finalize the paperwork and get everything in motion. I met with Shelly W and she was extremely helpful. The paperwork was a bit daunting but Shelly made it a pleasant experience. Shelly took the time to make sure I understood everything I was signing and answered all my questions with ease. Shelly was patient and extremely professional. She was also easy to reach, I called her a few times and emailed her after we met to ask some follow up questions and she answered immediately every time! Thank you Shelly!! I love credit unions, and thought I would switch to one closer to home, but this one's service is lacking. I was signed up for an "optional" monthly fee without consent. I learned too late that their ATM doesn't take deposits, and their night drop doesn't take cash. Their credit card rates are higher than my old bank. And the online banking website is archaic. When I went to close my account I learned I had to wait 90 days in order to get my $25 back. I hate to write a bad review of a local business but I cannot recommend them. read more

I was able to open a second chance checking after not being able to get approved anywhere else. I initially filled my app out online and the banker promptly emailed me back giving me all available options in detail. When I went into open an account the banker in the branch was able to pull up my information and open my account very quickly. I work the same hours that they were open and was able to get this done on my lunch break. So far so good, I LOVE my credit union! read more

I love Denver Community Credit Union. I started my membership back in the 80s and have never had a bad experience at any of the branches. I have had personal loans, mortgage loans and auto loans with great rates enabling me to pay them off easily and effortlessly. Fast forward to the present with my more recent experiences with respect to personal attention from bank tellers and loan officers. The experience has also been more than satisfactory. The branch on East Andrews Dr comes to mind as I utilize this one often. The branch staff is always efficient and friendly towards all clientele. The lines move steadily, even during busy hours, however, most of the time I have not experienced long lines. I was in the branch on Andrews Drive recently and was assisted by Shauntae who was accommodating, polite and very friendly. She addressed my personal needs with ease and very quickly. Where do I even start???? We went specifically for their credit rebuild program after our Chapter 13 bankruptcy. We called ahead told them our situation they said " oh yes come in we can help you". So we go in on a Saturday start getting things together she tells us we have to come back Monday. Seeing as how we work we weren't able to make it back Monday so they shut everything down. We went back on another Saturday got our accounts set up they took our money and then said " Oh sorry we can't help you with any of the credit rebuilding programs" this, after I specifically spoke with someone who told me they could. We shook that off and left with the new savings and checking open. Monday we get a call saying "oh sorry I wasn't allowed to give you a checking account so we have to shut it down and move all your funds to savings". Once again we shook it off. A few weeks later we got our tax return check and went to deposit it into the savings account. We were told it wasn't immediately available. We assumed it would take 24 hours to clear which was fine. The next day I logged on to check and it still hadn't become available (we needed some of this money to pay and catch up on bills as most people do with their tax return) so I got on the chat and asked why the hold with a cashier's check and let them know I needed it to pay bills immediately. Their response it would take TWO WEEKS to clear? WTF? I called the bank at that point and was told once they located a copy of the check they would release the funds within five minutes. They located a copy of the check and guess what? Still refused to release my funds! Stating they couldn't because it was a " newer" account and they had to "protect the credit unions interest". I take away a few things from this experience. 1. This is a non-customer focused institution. 2. Their employees need more training because there is always conflicting inaccurate information given. 3. I will take my business elsewhere. 4. Obviously your money isn't safer in a credit union. Save yourself the trouble and go some place else. DO NOT come here. I will tell everyone I know to run away as fast as their legs can carry them. read more

The customer service for this organization is absolutely horrific. I purchased my vehicle through Kuni Lexus in 2017 and they use Denver Community Credit Union for financing. At Kuni, I provided a copy of my insurance at the point of sale. Because Denver Community Credit Union was not listed as a lien holder on my policy, once the file was processed through them they forced alternative insurance on my car loan. Shortly after, I paid the my loan in full. There was still a remaining balance of $276 for the alternative insurance through SWBC. Denver Community would not release my title until I listed them as a lien holder to remove the insurance charges. Considering that I paid my loan in full, this makes no sense? Anyway, I advised my insurance company to place Denver Community as a lien holder; and they did and faxed a copy to all parties. Denver Community still has not released my title and they are indicating that I owe them $71.98. I have no idea what this amount is for? SWBC has indicated that they've reversed all charges and they have no idea what the $71.98 is for. When I called Ben in collections to discuss, he told me he does not have "to deal with me" when I offered the option to conference with the insurance company (SWBC) to get this sorted out. When I challenged his lack of customer service he said "what do you want me to do, write you an essay?" I have never been treated this way in my life. I've called the credit union manager, I've called the finance manager at Kuni and I'm writing reviews. I do not recommend this organization for car loans or any other transaction, as they treat their customers very poorly. read more

It is funny. My first review is no longer on the site, These people come up with ways to charge fees. It is amazing. We were charged a fee to withdraw in a single transaction while cashing a check. I also noticed a excessive fee to withdraw on the same transaction. 2 dollars in fees on one transaction. The only one of the month while withdrawing my money. Now they have added a monthly 3.95 Bill payer fee that you must opt out of even if you don't use bill pay in order to not be charged. They have also added A Reg D fee of $5.00 for over 6 transfers from savings here is a thought. Just don't allow the 7th transfer instead of charging members another fee. Run don't walk away from this place. read more

Customer Service very unprofessional I've been calling to find out why was $2052.00 taken from my savings without authorization they couldn't explain what happened. I applied for a car loan online and the next day a Loan officer by the name Joe Becker called me. Everything went well until he informed me that I must purchase auto insurance for a vehicle I don't own. I have purchased many vehicles in my time from dealerships to major banks. Not one had asked me to jump through this hoop. All I was required to do is show proof of insurance and or sign a statement to provide the organization of proof of coverage. This guy dictated to me that he wouldn't do anything with out a declaration page from my Insurance company. He said "that is our policy". I told him that I wasn't comfortable adding a car that I haven't purchased to my policy. It really irked me that he wasn't professional and treated me like a child. I told him I would not be doing business with a organization that treats people like this. I took my business to the Credit Union of Denver where the Financial Service Representative was professional and took care of everything. Incidentally she **did not ask** me to get a Insurance declaration page for the vehicle I will be purchasing. I'll be closing on my loan this Saturday. read more

Not happy with Denver CU. I have 2 loans there and have paid on time and extra payments. One month I paid half of my car loan due to some personal issues. I got one call and explained the situation. I also said the check was in the mail. I had the receipt for the check and thought as a good customer I had built up some good faith. I received another call the next day and explained again. Then a third call the third day. She said she had no record of the other calls. Plenty of CU's around use another one. read more

Do not join. They shut down my card for fraud without ever contacting me. Then looked into it saying they had " too many inbound calls" to contact me saying someone had tried to authorize my account. I asked them to make it right by overnighting a new card since they shut down my current once and that was too much of an in convince to them all the while even simply contacting me my account was hacked and shutting down my debit card was too much of an inconvenience to them due to "too many inbound calls". Apparently them turning off my card with absolutely no notification for days is not at issue but they will "file a complaint" and this has "never happened before" and they could not easily fix it by shipping me a new card over night and then told me I could withdraw money from an atm while paying the ATM Fee to get me through until they sent me a new card which would take 7-10 business days. NOPE. I have already signed up for a new bank in this time. read more

Unbelievably bad. My husband recently opened an account with direct deposit. He has been unable to log into the account. Last weekend in the bank they did something and assured him that it was all set. Still can't sign into the account. He has called several times and they assure him it is ok. It's not. They will do anything possible to charge $30 fees to your account and they charge $2.50 to have fraud protection, which is free at most financial institutions. A great place to do your banking. If you are community-minded & focused on keeping your money local, this is the way to go! Everyone is friendly and helpful. When I was working at a restaurant I would come in with stacks of bills to deposit and the tellers were never annoyed nor did they rush me along even though I wasn't a member of this credit union at the time (I was using shared branching). I decided to become a member because of the great level of service I received and I have loved Denver Community since I joined! The Mile High APY savings account with 5.28% interest is fantastic!
