I have to agree with previous reviews. My family and I went to Zini's last Saturday night. I had the Calamari steak. Absolutely the best i have ever had the steak was pounded just enough to make it melt in your mouth and still keep its firm texture. The meat was more tender and sweet than dungeoness crab. It was served with fresh corn on the cob and french fries. The servers were friendly and accommodating. If you are in Cloverdale there is no other place to eat. read more

We are from out of town and stopped by here for a quick breakfast before heading to the Redwoods. We were seated right away and the hosts and servers were wonderful.... HOWEVER, the cook completely lost his mind and started SCREAMING "Fuck you, you piece of Shit you're fucking fired" while SLAMMING plates on the floor shattering them. At first we thought it was just another server joking around, but no, the cook was totally serious and literally lost his shit on the other person (not sure if it was another cook or dishwasher or what) It made our breakfast EXTREMELY uncomfortable (if our food hadn't been on the table already we would have left like the other 4 tables that got up and walked out). Might just be an off day for them, however that kind of behavior and language before 9:30 AM on a Saturday morning is so unprofessional, not to mention disrespectful to their guests. Don't be afraid of the funny lookin'....big diner in little Cloverdale. I hit them for dinner on a long drive home & had an excellent "fancy" meal. The special was grilled salmon with hollandaise sauce....& it was wonderful. It was a stretch to try a dish like this in a "diner" in Cloverdale...but the chef nailed it. Friendly service topped it off. Served with fresh zucchini, mashed potatoes & I ordered the side salad. Throw in an ice tea ....all for under $20. If they can do "fancy" like this ....I gotta try the breakfast & burgers sometime soon. read more

Sister's and I were in Geyserville for girl's weekend, and decided to check out Zini's Diner for a late breakfast. The food was good, the hash browns crisp, as ordered, the bacon thick and cooked very well. The eggs, ordered over well, were done perfectly! They even had really good coffee, unlike some diners I've been to. Only one issue: when the waitress was serving our coffee, the tray slipped and the coffee cups went flying! Coffee was everywhere, including on my white blouse, and my sandeled feet! It was quite a shock, but hey, things happen! We were moved to another table so that they could clean up the coffee mess. We figured the waitress, or manager or someone that worked there, would come over and make sure no one was burnt, and that we were okay. That wasn't the case. Not a word was mentioned about the incident! No apology no acknowledgement that I had to go to the bathroom with a towel and dry off, that my white shirt was now coffee stained! I'm always willing to give a place a second chance. After our first lackluster experience we did not try the diner for awhile. However there was a recent review claiming Zini's had the best fries in the area so we thought we would try it out again. I swear my husbands mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box. If my fries were not undercooked I imagine they could have been good. As for my medium burger which came out well done and dry- I ate it cause I was starving but I would have rather had in-n-out or even McDonalds. The biggest flavor profile of the burger (besides the overly potent blue cheese) was the lettuce. I literally could taste lettuce before beef. It was just kinda sad. The mushroom soup was definitely the highlight of our dinner, which again is just kinda sad. Sorry Zini's for us it's two strikes and you're out. read more

If there were an option for 0 stars, I'd give it. First, we walked in an were seated in the empty side of the place nearest the doors, away from the rest of the guests. We ordered two coffees and a diet coke. When our server finally showed up, we ordered our food, and she brought the bread a few minutes later. When she brought our order, the chicken fried steak was cold, and had hollandaise sauce on it instead of gravy. She never came BACK! The coffees were empty side never refilled, we had to go get our own mustard, an the had to go ask for a box an the bill! We are a family of servers, and left a $0.19 tip! In short, WORST. SERVICE. I have only been to Zini's once but the lunch was wonderful! My friend lives there and she goes to the restaurant regularly. We both had bacon cheeseburgers and they were the best we've ever had...and we know our burgers :) The fries rocked too. There was definitely double the bacon than I'd EVER had anywhere. And, they know what medium rare means!!! That's huge...not big on dry burgers. It's a charming, unassuming Cloverdale place, meaning charming (have you seen the post office!). My only complaint would be that the waiter was a little distracted. That said, I can't wait go back...it's a five star! read more

I wish I could rate this no stars. I am writing this review weeks later but we still cannot get over the horrible meal we had here. My husband and I went in Zini's for lunch. I ordered the French dip and he ordered the fish and chips. The French dip tasted like packaged meat with a horrible au jus also made from a package. My husbands fish and chips tasted like bad fish. Restaurants can pull off using a frozen product for fish and chips but this was inedible and made him feel sick for hours after. I wish I could say I would go back and have breakfast which most yelpers rave about but I cannot bring myself to do so. I could say the service was good (they were polite) but when you leave half the food on your plate and the server does not bother to ask then it is not so good either. read more

My family - all six of us! - try to eat at Zini's at least once a week. We call it our "special occasion, all occasion, no occasion" diner. The food is consistently good so it doesn't really matter which menu items you choose. Stop by on Wednesday and try the Cream of Mushroom soup. OMG! Wonderful! read more

My wife called in to place an order for pick up, but they told her they wouldn't take her order because they were busy, so she just needs to come in if she wants food. I called back to speak to a manager and he told me the same thing. Neither person was apologetic and both were rude. The manager didn't care. His reasoning was that, if they accepted my phone order it would interrupt the service of the customers that were there eating... If I went in to eat it would require service from the waitress staff as well as the cooking staff, as opposed to my phone order only requiring the cooking staff... So my phone order would require less staff, but generate the same amount of revenue. From a business perspective, wouldn't this be more efficient? They actually should encourage people to order over the phone; that would allow them to relocate and reduce the large amount of typically un-filled real estate they have and also reduce the rude wait staff. It's sad, because I try to give business to my local businesses, but they don't care. This was their last chance with me. This was their second chance, since about a year ago I saw a live cockroach in the bathroom and said then that I would never go back... Luckily Healdsburg isn't far. read more

Kind of an old-fashioned diner, but seemed to only have a breakfast menu. My table was not completely cleaned from the prior customer. My omelette was ok, but had a big clump of unmelted cheese in the middle. Service was chaotic. Several servers wanted to take my order, but once the order was given everyone disappeared. I asked for dry toast, and the waitress who brought my omelette said she hadn't brought toast because they had mistakenly buttered the toast, but she never returned so I got no toast. I've had worse experiences, but there wasn't much to recommend at Zini. read more

This was a cute find for us in Cloverdale as I was picking my hubby up last week after he pulled a night shift as an EMT. He was super hungry and we just needed some good ol' eggs and bacon and pancakes. Did not disappoint! We got the thin buttery Swedish pancakes and a classic eggs over medium-bacon-hash browns plate. All good, bacon especially meaty and crunchy. The menu is not huge nor filled with highly original breakfast items, but you won't go wrong with their mainstream offerings.
