You walk in to what appears to have been a house once ago. A nice down home hearty feel with limited seating. I ordered a Bloody Mary (heavy on the horseradish though) and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was visibly seasoned but under delivered on the flavor front. The grits had what seemed to be a vanilla flavor to them... not my favorite. I was hoping for a more savory front with the dish. Service was great and I'd definitely be interested in coming back to try other menus throughout the day. Full disclosure -- we went for brunch, and I didn't order anything particularly Cajun or Creole, so honestly, what I had could have been ordered at other places. So I'm neither raving nor am I critiquing! I enjoyed my poached eggs and, in particular, my grits -- but they're pretty standard fare. I did, however, love the andouille sausage. Finally made it to this spot because I heard they had beignets. We came at 3pm Friday and no one was there. We were greeted by hostess/server (Cynthia) and sat right away. The place gave that eating at home vibe for sure. Hubby decided to order everything from the happy hour special to try everything and did not disappoint. Only thing we didn't get was the gumbo. Came in for breakfast with a group of six and I can honestly say Parish Cafe is worth the hype! The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, the coffee is great, and their beignets are to die for! For breakfast I had the Houma Hash. This was a very balanced pre-wine meal opt with a perfect amount of carbs and protein. The food was good but what really sold me here is the service. Our server Sophia was the highlight of our visit. Shes fun, friendly, attentive and juggled a busy morning/section with ease. Our group felt taken care of and we all enjoyed our meals and beignets. We had two individuals serving us. One made a recommendation per my request and it turned out delicious. The food was great. Well it has taken me 14 years but I finally at lunch the Parish Cafe today. I ordered the "1/2 and 1/2" oyster and shrimp po'boy. This sandwich was a 10 out of 10. Everything about it was perfect. Just the right amount of everything. Still hot. Oysters and shrimp both very flavorful and perfectly cooked. And the french roll, courtesy of Costeaux French Bakery was a perfect match. Very fresh and just the right of resistance so you didn't squish all the ingredients out just to bite through it, but it still had a nice chewy texture. And the really tasty Bloody Mary paired with it nicely. I'm a critical old bastard but I love being favorably impressed. We booked a 1:30 Sunday brunch in December and really enjoyed it. We opted to sit outside and while it wasn't cold, there's not much of a view on the back porch in winter. Looks like they have picnic tables near the street in warmer weather, I started with a Bloody Mary which was spicy but not too boozy. Husband had a mimosa which he enjoyed. Both $12 each. I had the shrimp and grits which were delicious ($20). The grits were buttery and light, creole tomato sauce was spicy but not overpowering, and got about 6 good sized gulf shrimp with Cajun spices. I added a poached egg for $2 which wasn't necessary. Yum! Husband had the Houma Hash which was more like a scramble with spinach, potatos, bell peppers, sunny side up egg, and andouille sausage ($17). He liked it and it was filling, but would probably order something different next time. Finished with the beignets which were served 3 to a plate with nice powdered sugared ($8). I love going someplace I haven't visited before and finding a gem like this! I was in Healdsburg to play Sax with a new band that I just started working with occasionally and this place was in the same "parking lot" as the club I was gigging at, so it was a natural to drop in on Saturday afternoon around lunch. It's in an old house converted into a restaurant and the place was packed! Charming atmosphere, servers and kitchen staff bustling around at their jobs, people enjoying a great time and great food...it was well worth the 1/2 hour wait to get in. Almost the entire band joined us, along with their significant others...we were seated at a classic wooden picnic table on the back patio shaded by a large umbrella. Our server, Malisa, greeted us as soon as we sat down and got us drinks right away. She was a stellar waitperson...super sweet and on top of anything that we needed without being overbearing. Just FYI...I've spent a LOT of time in N'Awlins and around the bayou. I'm very familiar with this style of food. What a welcome treat to see Abita Amber Lager ($5) (12 oz) on the drink menu...classic Louisiana beer...super refreshing! Of course, that was my choice. A large 1 Liter carafe of Bloody Mary's ($45) were also ordered (also available for $12 for an 8 oz glass)...I'm not a tomato juice fan, so I didn't partake, but those that did raved about them. Had to start with their Beignets ($8) [Lightly fried French Pastry topped with powdered sugar, 3 per order] WOW!! It had been quite a while since I've had REAL Beignets and these were as authentic as it gets! Pillowy, soft, with the right texture and covered with a generous dusting of powdered sugar that left a sugar mustache on your lips with every bite. Followed that with Fried Pickles ($6) A nice sized dish/bowl filled with flavorful bites...crispy texture, just the right amount of batter as to not overwhelm the thin rounds of delicious pickles, with an out of this world, authentic remoulade sauce for dipping. Tried a slice of their Fried Green Tomatoes ($8) that the keyboard player ordered. 6 large slices...again, crispy texture, just the right amount of batter as to not overwhelm the delicious, tart tomatoes, also accompanied by that out of this world, authentic remoulade sauce for dipping. SO many tempting choices for my main course...I would've been happy with any of them...but, I decided to go with one of my benchmark dishes for any Cajun/Creole place I visit: Gumbo ($8 for a cup/$15 for a bowl) [Chicken, Andouille, Okra] I ordered the bowl... Again...WOW!! You could tell that it was made with an authentic, hand made roux...there's no faking that texture. The proteins and vegetables were cooked perfectly...succulent chicken, snappy andouille...and the okra was treated the way it's supposed to be...just the tiniest bit of the inherent viscosity that makes it such a taste treat. Accompanied by a generous serving of rice heaped in a straight line down the middle of the bowl and a crispy piece of toasted French bread on the side... I couldn't have been happier! I also got to enjoy half of my dining companion's order! Their Saturday special: Smoked Brisket Po'Boy ($20) [The New Orleans classic on our custom French Bread from Costeaux Bakery] [All Po'Boys come dressed: mayonnaise, shredded lettuce, tomato and pickle] What a behemoth of a sandwich...that's why I wound up with half of it! So fun to be able to eat food from New Orleans! When I visit a new town aí always seek out a cuisine I can't easily get back home and this place was an obvious choice. We came for a late breakfast/early lunch. Restaurant is in an old house with some character. Staff was friendly. The beignets were a must and they were piping hot. The chicory coffee was good but the latte was too much milk - drank some and had to add some black coffee. Coffee needed to be stronger. Husband had a bloody Mary that was pretty good. For breakfast you HAVE to get the chicory coffee and beignets (if you're non celiac), and if you are celiac get the Benedict with the artichoke hearts as the "bread". As local residents, we have been regulars at The Parish Café since the day they opened. For our wedding anniversary, we decided on a nice Sunday brunch at this, one of our favorite restaurants. As always, the food was amazing. (Such a unique and flavorful menu.). But the service was a little off today. Very possibly because we switched tables, to accommodate our doggies outside. We had a waitress assigned to our first table, but once they moved us to our second table, no waitress came to check on us, or deliver the rest of our order. As soon as the manager, Malissa, found out about the problem. She came over personally and apologized and made everything right. Could not be more impressed! I had lunch at The Parish Cafe in Healdsburg yesterday, and it was top-notch! Everything I had was fresh and delicious. Their Po-Boys are done in the traditional fashion using local French Bread. Anything deep-fried is lightly battered and cooked to perfection! If you start with the Fried Pickles, it won't ruin your appetite, even though it's a generous portion. I also recommend a cup of Jambalaya and a cup of Gumbo as side dishes that will complement anything on the menu. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the place has a great atmosphere.
