He connected to my husband and I, told super interesting facts and stories, but also went out of his way to include our 14 yr old in conversation. When you walk into Zion Adventure Company, you will be greeted with smiling faces. You'll immediately be asked what brings you into the store. For most, you'll reply "I want to hike the Narrows." You get to watch a 7 minute video in their bleachers. This explains all of the things to expect, things that can go right or wrong and how to properly use your gear. At the conclusion of this video, you get an orientation on how to wear the gear. In terms of renting the gear, you have options. You can go with just shoes that are $25. You can go with shoes and wet pants that are $45. Or you can go for shoes and full on wet suit that are $55. All of these options come with a walking stick. We opted for the shoes and pants. We did this in April and the water was 40 degrees. We were plenty warm but we didn't go in the chest deep water. Why go with Zion Adventure Company? Well, it seems as though they are the only company that takes time to explain things to their clients. When we were out in the narrows, we were stopped by MANY people in other company's gear asking us questions. Questions that we had answers to because Zion Adventure Company explained all of these things to us. You have your gear for 24ish hours. Returning is super easy. You go to the back of the store give your last name, drop your socks in the appropriate bucket, return your pants and shoes and go on your way. They made the experiences super easy. read more

My group wanted to hike the Narrows. They had me convinced that we could all do it in running shoes and no walking stick. I still didn't trust them so I was the only one in my group to rent a hiking pole and the hiking boots with the neoprene sock. The boots were not heavy on my feet at all. They were comfortable and the best part is I couldn't feel the cold water while hiking. The hiking pole was a lifesaver and a must to keep balance. Our group (6 people) just visited the Narrows at Zion National Park and we were glad to get our shuttle reservation from this company. The staff are so courteous especially "Derrick" (my apologies if I pronounced the name wrongly) who accommodated us patiently with our shoe sizes. Also, Stephanie our shuttle driver/tour guide. She's very knowledgeable about the area and she kept us entertained with her Zion information. We arrived earlier than our pick up schedule and she still let us take her shuttle and brought back to the office. Hence, gave us more time with our family to enjoy. We found Zion Adventure Company when we were looking for a place to rent some boots for Zion. Unfortunately, there was a big winter storm for this trip to Zion so it changed our hiking plans. We went in to rent some boots because we were not prepared for the amount of snow that came the night before. As soon as we walked in, a lady greeted us and helped us right away. She showed us some shoes she recommend as well as some microspikes to add just in case. We had a fantastic experience with Zion Adventure Company. We rented gear from them to hike up the narrows one day and did a full day canyoneering trip with them the next day while we were in Zion for Spring Break. They had a great selection of shoes and gear, even for our petite 8 year old! I was impressed with all of the staff who helped us in the store when we came in to rent gear. They made time to help us even though the store was very busy. We only wanted shoes and hiking poles even though most people rent dry pants as well as shoes and hiking sticks. At first they tried to talk us into more gear, which was appropriate for most people this time of year, but once they realized that we actually did know what we were getting ourselves into, and that we were only planning on going a short distance up into the canyon, they didn't try to up-sell us on the rest of the gear. We will definitely rent from them again when the kids are older and have the stamina for doing the full hike. We had a great time in the narrows, but the Family Canyoneering Adventure the next day was the highlight of our trip (and probably our year!). Our guide, Assam, was very professional yet also personable and great with the kids. He made our 10 year old who is sometimes almost too cool for this stuff laugh and feel accomplished and independent, and helped our scared of heights 7 year down an 80 foot rappel! I will say that canyoneering is not for the faint of heart, but if you love exploring places that are off the beaten path, are willing to face your fear of heights, or don't have one, and want to go on a family adventure, this is absolutely not to be missed. Going with a guided tour is not cheap, but it was well worth it to have both the gear and expertise we needed for a safe and fun trip. We called ahead and discussed with our needs with Amy she was very knowledgeable and helped us understand what package we needed to book based on skill level and interests. Going into the Narrows without a proper shoes and a stick is just not wise and you will be glad you got the gear after about 20 minutes of hiking. My fam and I went on a vacation to Zion for the first time. My boyfriend suggested we rent hiking boots. That's how we found Zion Adventure Co. let me just say how incredibly awesome and detailed the employees are here. From the minute we walked in to the minute we dropped of our gear, they were super responsive and happy to be at work. The boots are $15 per person and you get waterproof socks w them too. If you're hiking The Narrows, you need to get hiking boots. They made all the difference. So, first they'll suggest you watch a 5min video on The Narrows and what to expect as well as what to do in the even of a flash flood. Then you'll get fitted and be on your way. Beware the shuttle cancellation policy! If you have to cancel your backcountry shuttle because the flash flood warning increases right before your trip--like we did--you will LOSE your money. No explanation given, just "our hands are tied." We showed up to our shuttle on time in the morning, saw that the flash flood warning had increased overnight, talked with the shuttle driver and other backcountry guides there (who said they'd cancelled trips with lower warning levels, and recommended we not go), and then made the heartbreaking decision to cancel our trip. We lost $100 for making the safe/responsible choice to not enter a canyon during unsafe conditions. Our choice to cancel was harder knowing we would lose our money. This policy incentivizes unsafe decisions to enter canyons during dangerous conditions, and punishes safe decisions. Not a good look for an adventure company. I left feeling sad, frustrated, and exploited. All that said, the individual staff here are friendly, patient, and knowledgable. I've used ZAC for rentals on multiple trips and until now have recommended them. But this shuttle policy really ruined it for me. It sure felt like they cared more about taking my money than my safety. read more

Had a great canyoneering adventure with Zach. He was especially attentive to and patient with our intrepid five year old granddaughter. My wife had rappelled before but I had not. I have a fear of heights. I wanted to face my fears. Zach trained us well and I had a great time (I just had to stare at the cliff in front of me and not look down). DO NOT USE THESE COMPANY! We booked a shuttle for my family and they dropped us off AND NEVER PICKED US UP IN ZION! You can't call them! They do not pick up the phone or even have an option to speak to a HUMAN!!!!!! WE waited over 90 mins for them and no show. We had to get on the public shuttle that luckily didn't check us for our tickets and another hour later and 2 shuttles finally back from our hotel. THEY didn't even seem to care they screwed up. They blamed Covid and having a mixed up schedule. We were literally stranded up there and they BLAME COVID????? How could they forget about us??? Horrible day and horrible service. First off, I ditto other reviews here - this is the best company to rent from. I called a couple times leading up to our trip and they were so patient answering my questions. They are so so knowledgeable!! We did The Narrows early November, and rented the whole thing - pants, shoes, socks and hiking pole. Also, fleece pants. We rented the gloves (we should've brought our own but didn't think of it!) - didn't need them but glad we had them just in case. I highly recommend both the Narrows brochure they have but also the Zion hiking map - it rates all the hikes on different dimensions and is a great map of the park as well. We loved visiting Zion and hope to come back. If we do we'd strongly consider more gear or maybe even an excursion with ZAC!! PS - we met a couple at the trail head, they stopped and asked a bunch of questions about where we got our gear and about the hike. We sent them to ZAC and ended up seeing them at the shop when we returned our gear. We saw them AGAIN in the morning on the way to their hike. Came here to rent some gear (waterproof shoes & socks, the pole came with the package) to trek the Narrows. All this gear really helped me with trekking the Narrows. The shoes helped protect my feet & ankle from cold & injury. The socks helped keep my feet warm from the freezing cold water that we had to wade through the narrows. They also make you watch a video at the beginning, its a bit boring but I found that there were some good tips int hat video. =) Tip: Get 1/2 to 1 size bigger than your regular shoe size because your feet will swell up at the end of the day due to all the seating you will do & the socks are very tight & all that walking that you'll be doing will make it even tighter. So if you get cold / bruise easily, I recommend you go get the gear to trek the Narrows. Service was good but if you have a big group, be sure to call ahead because they can get packed at certain times of the year. The location of this rental place was nice because it was so close to the entrance to the park & campgrounds. =) read more

We were hiking Angel's Landing and had been reading there were a few icy spots lingering and came to rent micro spikes. Do not bother! The tips were broken and dull, we put them on for the small icy spot we came upon and they were totally useless. We would not have been able to do the hike with these if there had been more ice on the trail. Would have brought our own from home but did not think TSA would let them through as we did not check a bag. If you are doing the hike in winter I would buy a new pair to do it safely, renting spikes from this company is a waste of money. read more

Zion Adventure Company was the ideal place to get our gear for the Narrows. While we were all concerned about the conditions, and were checking the internet that morning, we needn't have been. All we had to do was walk in the door of Zion Adventure Co. to get the whole story, including weather report, water temp, and flash flood risk level (it was very low that day). Our rental gear for such mild conditions: just water boots and a walking stick. Pants optional (for those who get cold easily). Don't think you need this gear? Maybe so for a warm day. But I thought the water boots were KEY. Hard rubber, plastic and nylon, with a built in neoprene sock; I had great grip on the rocks, my ankles were safe and my feet stayed warm all day. It made our hike so much more pleasant and worry-free. Here are the logistics for gearing up and hiking at The Narrows: -- Park at Zion Adventure (lots of street parking available); get your gear; then drop off your shoes/extra stuff at the car -- Walk across the street to the free town shuttle; take the shuttle to the park -- Walk across the bridge into the park entrance (Don't forget your receipt if you've already paid) -- Take the Zion park shuttle to The Narrows (last stop) -- Enjoy. (Reverse your steps in the way back.) Best of all, the vibe at Zion Adventure was so chill and relaxed; the staff were so uber friendly and cool, that it made the whole experience much more enjoyable and stress-free. We rented two e-bikes and a trailer for the day. The trailer had a max weight of 100 lbs and my 6 and 3 year old easily fit and loved riding in it. The e-bikes made it very fun to bike up and down zion canyon and would allow lots of fitness capabilities to enjoy the day. Biking through the canyon was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. We were able to reserve when we arrived in Springdale with a days notice. My friends and I rented the Narrow gears from Zion Adventure Company (across the campground and RV park) in Springdale. They offer shoes, neoprene socks and a walking stick for $23 (before taxes). They were super helpful when hiking the Narrows. I highly recommend it. We didn't know but you can also rent the gears at the Zion Outfitters just behind the Visitor Center so you don't have to go out to Springdale. When renting from the Zion Adventure Company, they don't rent out the gears past a certain time and require you to watch a video and get the gears fittted before renting them out. We went around 2pm to rent the gears and they didn't allow us to rent it since they didn't think we would have enough time to hike the Narrows and return the gears by 7pm. Plus the video and fitting would take approximately 20-30 mins. So instead, they suggested we come between 4-6pm to watch the video and rent the gears so we can hike the Narrows the next day. So plan accordingly! The video basically explains what to wear, general info and the do's and don'ts of the hiking the Narrows. Some were informative and some were just common sense. After, a staff will explain how to pick the right size for your socks and shoes. The walking stick should be about chest high. You must return the gears by 7pm! The return process is super quick. You basically drop off the gears at the back of the store and they check you out of their computer and make sure everything was charged correctly. Oddly, we had an extra person charged on our account but thankfully they took out that charge since that person didn't belong in our group. Overall, everything went smoothly. read more

If you're planning to hike the Narrows, stop here for gear first- if you want a pleasant experience, ratty sneakers are simply not going to cut it. Staff here are friendly and helpful, and as an added bonus, they allow you to pick up your rental gear the afternoon before your hike so you can get an early head start. Office itself is open 8M-8PM, rentals must be returned by then (not hard since it's no longer light enough to see to comfortably hike by then anyway). Day package for hiking the Narrows runs $22/per person, and includes thermal socks, booties, and a walking stick- initially felt that a stick was not needed, but in the water, it was very helpful to check depth and assure safe footing. Saw a few people trying to do it without a stick and it seemed unnecessarily difficult, many were trying to use sticks instead which weren't sturdy enough. Also got a dry bag, since we didn't own one and didn't want to spend $100 on something we'll use four times a year- the small is quite large and rents for $10/day, and the next size up is only $12/day. For two people to bring a ton of water and extra clothing layers and snacks, a small bag was sufficient. Staff was very helpful and answered all questions we had, showed us a short video after we registered (which answered several of our questions as well), and had us get fitted for the socks and shoes. If you're looking to hike the Narrows inside Zion National Park, Zion Adventure Company is worth visiting beforehand! We rented the Warm Weather Package from ZAC (about $23). This included canyoneering shoes, neoprene socks, a walking stick, plus a short information safety video. The walking stick literally saved my life more times than I could count on the hike. The neoprene socks also made a huge different in keeping your feet warm in the freezing river water. I went back to the Narrows a second day without the socks and my feet were freezing!! I also liked the shoes. They had good grip and I didn't have to worry about banging up or cleaning my own hiking boots. Get the Narrows hiking package! It's totally worth it!!! We went around 10AM and it was pretty packed. They do a good job though to get everyone geared up quickly and out to the park. The shop itself has snacks and other hiking/camping gear for sale. They also offer a variety of different outdoor classes and tours. Definitely something we'll look into next time we visit! All of the staff is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the National Park. Ask them anything and they'll be able to suggest things to do and see. First, I'll say Beks is who I spoke with by phone before my trip and she was fantastic!! Excellent experience working with her and getting the information that I needed. Otherwise my experience with this company was less than what I hoped for. Customer service: - I arrived to pick up my gear and the store was not very busy but I had trouble getting any help. The girl who finally helped me acted completely annoyed with her work and did not seem interested in answering questions. - I prepaid and had a receipt but they tried to charge me again. - My sizes were off so I recommend trying on any items in store. Gear: - I ended up with blisters on my toes and some pain from one of the boots sticking into my foot. When I returned the gear I told the staff person this (I was in pain) and asked what might have caused it, he said it could have been sizing but offered no apology. - As an FYI, this is the only local gear rental company that puts the size on the leg of your pants. It felt odd, and it shows up in photos since it's a large sticker with the size written in sharpie. I also had people ask me strange questions on the trail like if I was running a race (looks like a race bib). This may not matter to some people but others might like to know ahead of time. - This company does not offer the overall pants option that others have available, only pants or full bodysuit. I would not rent again from this company based on my experience. read more
