This place deserves an update from me. I've never been to the restaurant and I was harsh in my initial review. No, it is not owned nor operated by W Africans but given the W African restaurants are readily available in this area (nor are they good), I order from here. Often. Very often. It's worth it. It is. No lie. I always order a few stews, the jollof, the pounded yam, the ginger drink and a couple different proteins and eat off of it for the week. It's delish. It really is, although it's not perfect. I do have a few issues... the containers for the stews aren't always filled, sometimes, the jollof is sometimes dry (it would be so nice to offer a lil condiment container of red pepper stew w/ the jollof), sometimes the efo riro is too spicy and not made w/ enough crawfish. I've ordered maybe 30x since this review (maybe more). I'm not a hater, I promise. I just prefer authentic cuisines that are made by those of that culture. Given no options, this is close enough.

I finally ate with my hands. Mark recommended Egusi with yam because I'm vegan. It was perfect. First time African food eater here. Clean place, nice atmosphere and good people. Hibiscus drink was good too.

We ordered delivery: egusi soup with goat and pounded yam, jollof rice with croaker, sans porridge, and a small side of stew. My tastebuds immediately snatched me back to the first time I ate West African food at the original location of Zion Kitchen on Minnesota Ave in NE DC about 20 years ago. I thought, "there's no way this is from DC, and I haven't been back since! I was so confused because the location on the app said Crab & Chicken in Laurel. The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious! So, today I ventured to the Crab & Chicken spot and demanded to know who was cooking! This little Honduran woman said "me, my boss taught me how to cook!" I hugged her. Come to find out, she'd been cooking at the original location for over 10 years! She let me sample her egusi soup and the peanut butter soup she was finishing up, chef's kiss!! I promised her I'd be back as soon as I could afford it again lol. I also said I couldn't wait to sample her native cuisine! I wish she could teach me how to cook West African food, but I get it!

A produce sticker in my food.

We arrived around 10p on a Saturday night during football preseason and 100000%, you can kiss the expectation of having a seat or table available to you, right away. Luckily for me and my party, we were around long enough that someo other table left and then, we were able to have our own space. Before that, I was literally bouncing in between the 1-tv that showed the football game that I was interested in and the corner of the pool table, where the entertainment/karaoke side is. On to the drinks, they were good! The bartender was a blessing to the evening. The food, we were not able to get as the kitchen was opened during the later hours - our party just didn't get our desired table space til later in the night when we were almost ready to go. Parking, I there are designated spots within the shopping center (of course occupied by other shops' parking), but I personally would park on the far opposing end of The Hideout & walk over with your crew. Overall, it was not a bad experience. I believe this was my first time coming & wouldn't mind coming again, indeed to try the food, but DEF. earlier in the evening.

The tab system makes it easy to move from room to room so you don't have to worry, it's easy to add drinks and food as you relax and enjoy the atmosphere. They usually have reservations and larger parties, but it's a pretty open/communal space, so there aren't typically issues with seating. All in all, a great spot for many occasions.

Both things were very true, and we loved trying 5 beers on our beer flight. Black Flag has plenty of indoor space for a family to spread out. Our daughter climbed on the bench and picked up games among their vast variety of board games to play. She was kept busy without disturbing any guests, and my husband and I could enjoy beer and pizza. My two favorite beers we tried were the Flagship IPA and Cer Ve Za. These were so refreshing on a hot summer day. We also loved the Vanilla Porter and will keep that in mind for enjoying when the weather turns cold. Each table has a QR code to easily order pizza. There is also a promo code to get 20% off your order. We loved how convenient that was, and that this pizza place has vegan options. A poker tournament was going on. We sat at the bar and what I will say is everyone was pleasant and welcoming. We were immediately invited into several conversations happening. I was told many food items on the menu were exceptional; the menu consisted of bar food such as burgers, BLT, steamed shrimp, mozzarella sticks, fries and a few other items I cannot recall. I ordered the steamed shrimp which were extremely bland, could tell they were frozen and overcooked. I have never not enjoyed steamed shrimp but these were the exception they also had a strong bleach smell. My partner ordered the turkey burger and didn't rave about it but also didn't complain about it. Nothing was life changing from what I could see that others were ordering. Seems that this is a place for drinking, camaraderie, and entertainment as there are also pool tables which I believe were free to use. No rush to return but if looking for an inviting place to play pool will return. One thing I did not like is that their are no small tables to sit your drink while playing pool as I was raised that you need to have your eyes on your drink when out in public at all times. Being told to leave my drink at the bar while playing pool did not sit well with me so I didn't drink.

The lounge is on the smaller side, which actually worked well for the event and gave it an intimate vibe. The owner was also very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The menu is extremely limited, and you pretty much have to piece together a meal from a few items. I ordered the jollof rice and six-piece chicken wings. The wings were overpriced, overcooked, and had no flavor at all. The only options were sauces on the side (honey, ranch, or blue cheese), and when I specifically asked for honey drizzled on top with blue cheese on the side, that request wasn't followed. Even more frustrating, our server never came back to check on us or make sure everything was okay. The jollof rice was honestly the worst part. Instead of that rich, smoky flavor you'd expect, it tasted burnt with a harsh charcoal aftertaste. I've had jollof rice many times before, and this was nowhere close. I ended up sending it back. Because I was hungry, I forced myself to eat the wings, even though they were dry and lacked flavor. Overall, Myste Lounge has a nice look and potential, but the food and service really need improvement. A revamped menu and better attention to guests would make a huge difference.
