So we decided to try a new restaurant and the menu looked pretty decent. Got here and they had nothing that we asked for and only had an XL snapper. So rather than just turning around. We decided to share the snapper. The music was soo loud you can't hear yourself think. But the place is clean to say the least. But empty. What is the point of having a menu when you don't have 90% of the menu. No fresh drinks they didn't even have chicken wings, the drinks are like ever fresh bottles and they are $4. *Heads up, the restaurant came under new ownership a few months ago* (the old owners were letting things fall by the wayside it seems, thankfully new management is doing much better!) I've stopped through a couple times for carryout and each time there have been other customers stopping by, so it seems like a popular hidden gem among locals. Spoke with the owner and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and you can tell he's passionate about his craft. Food was great, it's now my go to spot for comfort food when I'm craving Caribbean cuisine- have tried the deep fried turkey, kabit goat (love the rice and beans the entree comes with!), Jamaican beef patty, and Haitian codfish patty. You may have to wait a little for the entree to come out, but that's cause they're cooking it fresh. The Food was VERY underwhelming. I ordered fried chicken and rice, I was served fried chicken and fries. The rice has the strong taste of coconut milk as if it was rushed. Chicken was just ok. My niece ordered macaroni and she said it lacked flavor. I believe the restaurant has not been open for an extended period of time because it seemed as though the staff is still working out early kinks to get going. We ordered waters but there are only water bottles for sale. we dined in but everything comes in to-go boxes, which is indicative of a restaurant that is more catered to phone orders than actual dine in patrons. Caribeyond was just okay to me. I ended up ordering jerk wings with rice and peas and cabbage. I also got a side of mac and cheese. There was quite a bit of a wait. I also happened to arrive during a busy time because there was a large group there placing orders. After finally getting my food and getting home, I dug in. I didn't really care for the taste of the cabbage. The mac and cheese wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would be. The wings were okay. It was just an okay, mediocre experience to me. I was told Caribeyond has good Haitian food so I had to come see for myself. The location is tucked in a small plaza with plenty of parking. When you first walk in Haitian music is playing at a moderate level. The aromas of the food is amazing and the restaurant is clean. There are tables set up for small and large parties, and they even have a pool table. The cashier was welcoming, provided menus and answered all the questions I had. After a few minutes I decided to order the fried kabrit fritay. The dish came with pikliz (pickled peppers) fried kabrit (goat) , marinade ( fritters) and akra (a root vegetable yautia). I also got a side of diri blanc and sauce pois blanc ( white rice and white bean sauce). For my drink I went with Couronne. Haiti's brand of fruit champagne soda. Overall I'm rating 9/10. The rice and bean sauce could have been better but it wasn't horrible. The rest of the dish was so amazing. I also loved how their pikliz was not overly spicy and enjoyable with the rest of the platter.Definitely recommend. I know the restaurant offers cuisine from other countries on their menu, but this is primarily a Haitian restaurant so I would highly recommend ordering Haitian food. I wish I could give zero stars for the way I was just robbed. I ordered the oxtail which came with a whole pound of rice and peas, which was dried out from being microwave and some old cabbage which also was dried out from being microwave and on top of that the oxtail only came with two tails for $24.37. The food took over an hour to come out, despite us being the only customers in the restaurant. When it finally did, some of our dishes were barely warm. They forgot half of our order and actually asked us (again, after an hour of waiting in an empty restaurant) which dishes we were missing. At some point in the hour that we spent waiting, they began to offer us tea and other drinks, implying that they were a courtesy to thank us for dealing with the wait and that they would be comped. They were not. I got the curry goat, which tasted alright, but was a microscopic portion (especially given the $22 price tag) and I left hungry. Aaaaawwww maaaaannn.... I really wish i'd've snapped you guys some pictures on my visit, because Caribeyond was super clean when I stopped in and all the staff was wearing their masks properly as well as were very pleasant and engaging with me. We opted for escovitch snapper and brown stew snapper for carryout, both of which were made hit and fresh and were worth the accurately quoted wait time. I enjoyed their macaroni and cheese and usually don't choose it as a takeout side item but theirs was really good, as was my cabbage and sweet plantains. There were a lot of bottled refreshments to choose from, while not so many desserts and the ones display did not look super freshly made so we passed on those, which was a good idea because the dinner entrees were devoured, lol. TL;DR - 3.5/5, Probably would make a good take-out meal This is one of the few places around Columbia/Ellicott City where you can find Caribbean food. The restaurant itself is a little hard to find, but there is plenty of parking available. Overall, the food is good although the service was a little slow - I'd actually recommend ordering take out ahead of time for the best dining experience. I got the jerk chicken platter, and curry chicken patty. I would have rather tried the beef patty, but they were unfortunately out of them. I would have personally liked a little more spice on the chicken, but the chicken was very juicy so it balances itself out. The curry chicken patty however, was a little disappointing. I didn't find that the flavors really came through the thick pastry as much as I would have liked, although it was still edible. Overall, while the food certainly isn't the best I've had, it's definitely above average. I certainly wouldn't mind coming here occasionally if I'm feeling like eating some jerk chicken read more

This popped up as new in the area. So I decided to give it a try. The establishment appears to be nice and clean. Very well lit and bright aesthetic. Placed an order for Jerk Chicken with a side of cabbage, mac n cheese, and a beef patty. I also asked for either jerk sauce or brown stew sauce. Food came out quick and the plate was heavy!!! After getting home and opening my plate I was rather sad. Not sure if I got there too late or if this wasn't a good day but.... Jerk Chicken - Charred with no sauce Mac N cheese- barely a scoop, very bland and dry Cabbage- barely a scoop, decent taste Rice- plenty, was the best thing I ordered Beef Patty- was good as well. Excellent addition to the restaurant scene. The curry chicken platter was delicious. The chicken and potatoes were tasty but the sides were the really special part for me. I'm really picky about my mac & cheese and this was perfect, just baked enough to have a little crust on top but not overcooked. The cabbage and carrots were tender but not mushy. I ordered one of each of the patties but I was too full to try them all. The spinach was nice but the spicy beef was awesome. The crust was nice and flaky and the beef was spicy (but not too spicy). What a great new place in Columbia! Also goes by Gisele's on the sign. This new restaurant takes the place of Columbia's Best deli near the MVA. They did some great work redecorating the interior. I had the Jerk Chicken with macaroni and cheese, rice and beans, and cabbage. All was well seasoned (although the chicken could have been spicier). I've been waiting 2 decades for a Caribbean restaurant to open in Columbia and it doesn't disappoint. My go to everytime I go to a Caribbean place is Oxtail. Every place is a little different but this is one of my favorites. The meat is fall off the bone tender, not fatty but gelatinous, the way it's supposed be, just the right amount of saltiness which alot of places do wrong. The cabbage was seasoned simply and peppery, the way it's suppose to be, the Mac was firm, crusty on top and not too cheesy, the plantain was soft but not sticky and overcooked, only wished they had white rice because that's my personal preference. Overall it was delicious and I hope people continue to patronize them so we can have Caribbean cuisine in Columbia. read more

This is the first time in this restaurant and I didn't even know it existed until my wife brought me here. We ordered the jerk chicken and curry goat. I am not a big goat person due to the taste, but I can say that this is one the best tasting curry goat dishes that I have ever had. The jerk chicken on the other hand could be a bit milder as it's hot. Personally that level of spice would be better served on hot wings. For a beef patty to go and as far as I can tell, it looks to be freshly made compared to so many others that serve the pre-made stuff you can go and pick up at Walmart or Sam's club. I discovered Caribeyond by a Yelp recommendation and am so thrilled to have found it. The food, which is cooked fresh daily, is authentic and delicious, plus the staff, especially Chantel, are friendly, honest and hardworking. The restaurant itself is owned by an African American family in Columbia, Maryland whose roots are in the Caribbean. The restaurant is spotless with plenty of space for dining in, takeout and parking. I especially appreciate the fact that it's in the same shopping center as the MVA. Caribeyond offers vegetarian patties among its menu variety and they are all homemade. The curried goat is to die for. On Tuesday, I left my visa check card there and didn't discover the loss until the following day. When I rushed into the restaurant, Chantel was happy to see me and had kept my card safe. I was really excited to hear about a new Caribbean restaurant in the area. I have frequented this establishment 4 times so far in the last 2 weeks. Its a little pricy ($21 for fish) , but so far, I am really happy with their offerings. The rice and peas and mac and cheese and patties are legit (authentic, delightful and tasty). The most recent visit included an order that had rice and peas that was a little soft- but I won't hold it against them. It was likely because it was towards the end of the day- and maybe the bottom of the pot. My only only complaint is that the friendly lady at the front decide wears her mask properly. Its always hanging below her nose - I noticed this 4 out of the 4 times I have been here. And I would love to hopefully soon see more items on the menu- including ackee and salt fish, cornmeal porridge, ground provisions, and at least one vegetarian dish. Check them out. The customer service is HORRIBLE! There was no one in the restaurant but the server took a long time to come from the back. When she did, she had an awful attitude. She did not give eye contact, she was giving one-word answers, she acted like she did not want us to be there or give us service. Half of the menu was not available, they had no vegetables or fish to serve. She could not give definitive answers about what was ready to order and her overall disposition was nasty. While I should have walked out before paying, I just receive my food, as I was excited for Hatiain food, but it was "okay" at best. The Black rice gave nothing notable to return for. I asked if she was the owner or if they are present and she just replied no, as she walked away and in the back as I was talking. NEVER AGAIN! I like to support Black owned business but I have no way of contacting the owner to let them know about their staff. read more

Unfortunately this restaurant was not prepared for business today. My coworker and I showed up at 12:00 sharp when this restaurant is suppose to be open and found the place locked with some lights on and some off. We went back to the car to think other places to eat, while we were discussing this, the someone came to unlock the restaurant and let people in. We went in and placed our order with the seemingly sleepy cashier. She didn't write anything down or take payment, she just said ok and walked into the back area. After waiting for 20 mins and seeing other peoples orders taken, she asked if we had placed an order. We told her we did and she said ok and continued taking other orders. I noticed she was not writing down peoples orders and taking payments. At this point it didn't feel like we would be served anytime soon so we decided to leave. I may come back in a few weeks to try the food and update the review, hopefully they'll be more prepared for work at that time. read more

I try to support black owned businesses in the area so this was really a let down. My dinner was disappointing. I ordered a Jerk Chicken meal with Cocoa bread and a beef patty. The bread was hard as a brick. I couldn't believe they would even sell that to me. I tried to heat it up in the microwave a little and it was still rock hard. The bread wasn't edible at all. It got thrown in the trash. Let's move on to the Jerk chicken meal. The side was practically nonexistent. I chose plantains and was given the tiniest pieces I have ever seen. The pieces weren't even half an inch thick. I believe it was 3 or 4 of them. It was also flavorless and cold. The only thing I can say I enjoyed was the chicken. But this place really let me down.
