Zion Market is another Korean grocery store, and while it's in competition with H-Mart and Mega Mart, think of it as the scrappy underdog. H-Mart is like Publix: big, shiny, and full of everything you could ever want. Zion, on the other hand, is more like Aldi: small, compact, a touch dirtier, and definitely more bare-bones. But hey, lower prices are the trade-off, and honestly, who doesn't love a good deal? Even though the space is tiny, they make it work. The parking lot is shared with Micro Center. And while H-Mart and Mega Mart have food courts with all the hot, Korean meals, Zion doesn't bother with that luxury. Instead, you get a bare-bones, no-frills vibe, which, honestly, I kind of respect. No need for fancy food when you're saving on groceries, right? Zion is definitely cheaper than the other guys. Like most Korean markets, they don't believe in taking holidays off. So if you need ginger on Christmas Day, this is your place. They'll be there, working hard, selling you ginger, maybe some "almost expired" meat, and a bag of rice; all for a good price. The small space doesn't stop Zion from packing in a ton of stuff. Produce, meats, seafood, pre-packed Korean meals, snacks, drinks, homegoods, you name it. If it's Korean or Asian, it's probably here. It may not have the selection of the other guys, but it's the kind of place where you'll find everything you need, assuming you don't mind a little extra elbow room while you shop. Their seafood section is pretty solid and fresh. Of course, because the space is small, the fishy aroma tends to take over the whole store. If you've ever stepped into an Asian market, you know exactly what I mean. It's not for the faint of heart, but it adds a level of authenticity that you won't find at H-Mart. Plus, they've got a good variety of frozen and fresh meats and seafood. Zion might not have a food court, but they've got pre-made Korean meals to satisfy your hunger. You can grab kimbap, steamed corn, muk (acorn jelly), japchae, pajeon, dduk, fresh kimchi--the essentials. They also have fresh sushi salad, pre-packed shabu-shabu bowls, and more. It's like a grab-and-go lunch (or dinner). Sure, the space is tight, the smell might hit you like a ton of bricks, and it's not the fanciest place on the block. I think Zion Market is OK/fine. It's not bad. This is a large Korean grocery store, a direct competitor to nearby H Mart and Mega Mart. I prefer H Mart because H Mart stores have food courts and they offer more and better quality food and products overall. However, where I think Zion has H Mart beat is pricing. Getting groceries here is more affordable. I think the prices here are generally comparable to Mega Mart, if not, cheaper. That said, you also get what you pay for. For example, the chicken here is cheap. My wife decided to pass on the chicken here and get higher quality, organic chicken at Publix on the way home. On the other hand, if you pick right/get lucky, you can get decent quality produce at rock bottom prices. Beware though, they also sell produce close to, on, or past their "best by" dates. We noticed some of the packaged produce were past their best by dates. Be sure to check expiration dates. We were looking for miso paste and noticed some of the miso paste on the shelves had already expired. Expired products on shelves happens at my neighborhood Kroger too. In general, this market has cheap produce and tons of Korean frozen and packaged food products. They stock a wide variety of dumplings, noodles, and other delicious snacks and drinks. They carry a ton of Lotte products. Like the other markets, there are free food samples and an assortment of stores, albeit on a smaller scale, such as a cosmetics counter, a health and wellness shop (specializing in massage chairs and expensive LED masks), and a Korean red ginseng stall. They have a sizable meat and seafood department with butchers and fishmongers. In the freezer, I noticed whole octopus for $11.99/lb (about $25-30 for a whole one). They also sell a bunch of housemade ready-to-cook or ready-to-eat foods like pollack soup kits (complete with veggies and all, $10.99 per kit) and acorn gel packs ($5.99 per pack). There's a stall in one of the back corners called "Mom's Taste" where old Korean ladies prepare things like gimbap (Korean "sushi" or seaweed rice rolls). There's a Tree Story Bakery & Cafe location inside near the exit. Use the Zion Market Rewards app to get coupons, deals, and earn loyalty points which can be redeemed for discounts on future purchases. Restrooms are located in the back on the 2nd floor. All announcements made over the intercom are in Korean so it feels like you're in a foreign country when you're here. Zion opened in 2017 next to Micro Center in Duluth. This is currently the only location in Georgia. There are other Zion locations in Southern California and one in Texas outside of Dallas. In the end, for Asian groceries, my wife (who is the real grocery shopper and cook in this marriage) prefers H Mart and Buford Highway Farmers Market, and even Jusgo, to Zion. That's not to say Zion is bad. It's just that there are several more preferable options in metro Atlanta. read more

If I were to review Zion Market when it first opened around five years ago, I would give this place a 5/5. However, Zion really did fall in terms of quality and only rise in price in the last few years. When I used to grocery shop, I would immediately only come to Zion because they had the better produce, they had the better sales, but maybe because of inflation, it really isn't the case anymore. Nevertheless, Zion Market in Duluth still is a great place to grocery shop, and I like it because it's always less crowded than Hmart. The place is maybe half the size of Hmart, but it still has everything you need and there are even some food items that Hmart doesn't carry (like Korea's NoBrand items). Unfortunately, Zion Market doesn't have a food court (unlike the Zion's I've visited in DFW and LA), but they have a prepared foods station, which is actually pretty good! And they also have a Tree Story Bakery located near the exit of the market. Zion's Rewards program is also better IMO than Hmart -- it allows you to redeem your points directly from the App & lets you redeem as low as 200 points (vs. Hmart where you have to visit Guest Relations to claim your points and you have to have a minimum of 1000 points). I would still say Zion is a "good" supermarket, but I just don't know if it beats the threshold of a five-star supermarket at this point. read more

Smaller market than the H Mart up the road however good selection of items. They also have a Tree Story inside which is a bakery. They also have some sale items as you walk inside the grocery. Zion Supermarket is a Korean Super Market based out of San Diego, Ca. They currently have 6 locations mainly in California. This location in Duluth is the company's only location in the state of Georgia. They're located in an area where there are at least half a dozen or more Asian grocery store within a couple of miles radius. How they stay ahead in such a competitive market is by being good at what their competitors are not good at.... Size: Super H-Mart is massive for those that only want to pick up a few items Zion is the better choice. They don't carry everything but have most of the best sellers. Price: Super H-Mart has competitive pricing but not on everything. Zion on the other hand seem to be cheaper than H Mart at most things. Also when an item goes on sale they're a super bargain. Service: Super H Mart can be a hit or miss on service while Zion seem to thrive on friendly cashiers and smiling people in the meat-seafood department. Zion market is a fairly new grocery store that mainly sells produce, meats, and Asian (korean) products. I usually like to shop here for groceries because they always have great sales, and their produce is always pretty fresh. The produce is located on the left side of the market, meats and seafood are in the back, frozen foods are in the middle aisles, and eggs are in the back corner on the right side of the market. If you want to see what's on sale for the weekend, they have it posted on their website for the Duluth location. The workers are pretty friendly, and the parking lot is huge which is a big plus. The Sprouts of Korean supermarkets has just stepped into the Duluth grocery scene. Brightly lit interior, spacious aisles, nicely displayed produce, clean floors, this just seems like the next, logical step from the likes of H Mart and Assi. Though they lack the variety and abundance of products that their competitors do, they still remain competitive with their low prices, at least for now. You can get cuts of meat like ribeye and loin for dirt cheap, though their prices are expected to rise once they develop a customer base. Zion Market also has different kinds of marinated KBBQ meats available, which you can pick and choose for the butchers to weigh. In addition, they have a corner of the store dedicated to Korean side dishes/snacks, glass window panes to see them making the products firsthand. What they lack in variety, they make up for in cleanliness, presentation, and low prices. I'm excited for this new breed of Asian grocery stores to come, where they combine the modern, consumer-conscious shopping experience with the Asian products we've grown up to love. I like Zion having been twice now find that prices will change quickly my thoughts are they are trying to move product instead of sitting on it and throwing it out, this is a win win for everyone. Some of the sales you will see are 2/3/5 for one price, what I found out is that you do not have to buy them all. For example 2 bunches of fresh spinach at $.98, know you can buy one which is great no more waste. Meat and poultry know that you have tons of choices with prices to match. Looking for wings they have large flaps and drums in separate containers. Seafood selection is o.k. when asking about the three types of shrimp offered at the time all were "farmed" this was a pass. Finding frozen clams was a surprise for tofu soup. In a hurry or just want something healthy beautiful sashimi bowls are grab and go for under $12.00. read more

It's new so the prices are unbeatable. We'll have to see how prices look in 6 months. Another thing I would like to see in about a year is the cleanliness. Hmart is old and beat down but they won't do anything about it bc they're relying on the brand. Furthermore, Zion's aisles are wider, design is more thought out, and the store is better maintained. Have you ever walked into an Hmart restroom? Hate to pick on them but getting tired of Hmart not caring about their customers. For now, Zion is a pleasant shopping experience. A Tree Story bakery is coming in soon. Zion doesn't have the small stores inside nor a good court but I don't ever utilize those does anyways. They can use that space to not cram the store. There is this white cashier that should be fired. She was giving attitude to because my mother took the card out from the card reader early when she said "do not take it out." My mother heard it as "take it out". She then says with an attitude and hand gestures "ugh! I SAID NOT TO TAKE IT OUT!" in front of all the customers!!! What in the world? Are you serious? Usually who says DO NOT TAKE IT OUT, they usually say"you can now take it out" I walked up to her and said "is this how you treat customers? She totally ignores me and one korean guys walks over and starts counting next customers mangos and the cashier and the guy just laughs and ignored us. (Funny thing is the customer behind us was like, "why are you counting our mangos when other transaction is not even completed.) Seriously wanted to call the manager to complaint for giving attitude to customers. I am still so upset and would not want to visit this store again just for the bad service I had! Btw, this is a Korean market and there are Koreans who live in the states that does not speak English, that's why they go to Korean market to purchase products. But Zion Market only hired non-koreans as their cashiers. Harder for our parents generation to even ask questions to cashier. One more, I was there over the weekend and it was busy and there were only 2 registers opened and people were just waiting in line to get their shit done. New Supermarket (Korean) that opened in Duluth. It's located next to Micro Center. Therefore, it's kind of hard to notice, behind Krispy Kreme. Opened on 04/13/2017. So a lot of patrons are expected. However, newly opened supermarket, you would think they'll open up all 9 or 10 register. Instead, only 5 registers were open, hence the long crowded line. I came to the market for freebies because that's what Asian markets do, they give out freebies when newly opened. Other than the freebies, I bought tons of groceries like fruits, snacks, veggies, etc., I even stopped by Krispy Kreme and got a donut. Although it's irreverent, I blame on the market. Anyhow, market is not that big like Super H Mart, Assi, or even Great Wall. It's medium sized market with variety of veggies but just in small quantity. Easy for me to go in and get out. However, I felt that the parking was not as spacious as I thought it would be even though it was sharing the big parking lot with Microcenter. It was bit crowded and tight. Oh also, watch out for people who just leave their carts everywhere in the parking lot. I meant literally everywhere! Smh! They got real good prices, not sure if they'll always have good prices but at least they did today. I heard Zion Market is a popular supermarket from California. Like other markets, they also have small section with home cooked snacks like spicy rice cakes, Korean pan cakes, Kimbap, etc., They also have lot of samples for you to try. Red bean buns 5 for $5, Cold noodles 3 for $10, Bananas 3lb for $.99, and many more deals. Honestly, I checked out Zion Market just to see it. Yes, I've been there, done that. I prefer Super H Mart and Assi over it for sure. It's still new so it's not packed and is very clean. Honestly, it is a lot smaller. Nothing really stood out except some cheap prices for now. Everything else I am able to get at the other Korean grocery stores. I did think the cute individually wrapped apples were adorable. Apple on the Go! It was on sale for 25 cents. I love japchae so I got some. They also had lots of kimbaps and other munchines that the other Korean grocery stores have too. I wonder how it will do. Well here is yet another Korean/Asian market located amongst about 7 others within a mile. Do we need another, probably not. However the mire there are the better the soecials are for the shopper, so welcome! The store is not quite as large as some of the others, but because of this you can park closer and get in and out easier. The first thing I noticed was whole pineapple for 99c. Closer look though, all the green tops were cut off! Might not be a problem if recently cut but I notice most are spoiled and mushy. No thanks! The vegetable prices were no lower than elsewhere, except maybe lemons. I did notice a good price on a 6 pack of water (gallon bottles) for $5.99. I went to the fish section. No free cleaning here, but if you take them uncleaned, you pay less a pound. On fish with no scales and minimal guts that works for me. I bought Gokden Pompano on special for $2.79 uncleaned, and they were very good. I also got monkfish at a good price and it was ok. Not sure I cooked it right. I wilk go back and check out the fish again. The rest is much the same as the others. read more

This is one of the newer Korean grocery stores in Duluth and this was my first time here since they opened. Their produce prices are definitely cheaper than H Mart, Assi, or Mega Mart and I like the variety they offer as well. For example, I was able to pick up some bs y oyster mushrooms grown in Korea there for only $0.99 a container! Every other store either didn't have them or cost way too much. I like the samples they offer and the have competitive pricing on most of their grocery goods. I am not a fan of their kimchi and ready made banchan since they are all sweet or have an unusual flavor. I prefer my banchan to be straight up spicy when it's supposed to be spicy and sweet when it's supposed to be sweet. None of that weird fusion flavors for me! I do like how they have specials where if you spend a certain amount, you get a discount on promotional items. This time it was spend $50 and get a box of 8 huge white peaches for only $5.99. They also have a make up store, jewelry/accessory store, and bakery inside. Next time I'm in Atlanta, I'll be sure to purchase some of their meats and seafood selection and update my review about them. WELCOME TO THE NEWEST ASIAN MARKET: ZION MARKET Zion is the newest Asian grocer in the Pleasant Hill shopping district. This store is a comfortable size with a spacious interior and a nice floor plan. On the perimeter you will find a bakery, women's accessory shop and a cosmetics store. As you enter the store and walk past the little shops on either side of the entrance, you will run right into produce. I love having the produce front and center because this is usually where I begin and end. It is very convenient. Some of their produce was okay but I really need a store with an unmatched selection of greens that have been picked at their peak. I need them to be consistently fresh and tempting. Their fresh spinach looked very good and I did score some really great looking dandelions and green leaf lettuce which are perfect for salads and smoothies. If you like unsalted peanuts roasted in the shell, they have some of the best I have had. They are very fresh and lightly roasted to perfection. This market has a huge fresh fish and meat department. We did not venture all the way into this department because just standing on the perimeter we were starting to get frostbite. This area is extremely cold (like 40 degrees), even with a sweater! This section is probably going to be busiest on the weekend and during the holidays as people shop for fresh seafood and other proteins. You really have to plan wisely when visiting during high traffic times. Zion also had a nice selection of cookware, utensils, serving dishes, small appliances and other household items. Don't overlook this department because they sometimes have really cool items. I purchased a couple of large serving bowls that happen to be square at an Asian market and they are some of my favorite kitchen items. They are great for food prepping, mixing and eating salad, holding snacks and catching liquid that drains from my large colander. I also purchased some super deep divided snack bowls which are perfect when you want a variety of snacks on the table. Just take time to look and you might be surprised by the options available. The separate bakery is located toward the front of the store (Tree Story), and they were offering free samples of selected items. We tasted one of their red bean and cream rolls and agreed that the red bean had a very nice flavor so we purchased some of them. Unfortunately, when we arrived home we discovered that the cream was more of a refined lard and the entire roll was just over-stuffed with WAAAAY too much filling. It made for a very greasy, dense roll that could have easily been used as a paperweight. In the end I removed all of the filling and just ate the roll which was slightly sweet and soft, with a very nice texture and flavor. My recommendation: just stick with the morning rolls. This store is located east of Walmart and west of the Gwinnett Mall area next to Micro Center. I really appreciate their convenient location away from the more congested areas. My first visit was today, just a few minutes ago to be exact. The market itself was super clean and smelled nice! I can tell they believe in quality. The seafood section DID NOT REEK of fish! They had fresh selections to pick up and go for meals! I had to try the salmon sashimi (one of my favorites) you can serve yourself from the cooler. The salmon that Day came either already cut with a variety of other fish or alone in one large piece that you could eat savage style (like I did ) or take home to cut into bite sized pieces! It was prepared TODAY! And so beautiful and fresh and buttery! I wish I had taken a photo but if you scroll through the photos already up you will catch of glimpse of what I'm talking about. The staff were so nice and helpful when I needed them but not overwhelming nor pushy! I will make the trip to shop again definitely!! read more

The Korean supervisor at the produce area were very ruled when I asked for a case of vegetable and he somehow decided that I no longer need it without telling me. I waited for a long time finally I have to ask other worker to get it for me. While I was waiting, I saw how he talk down to other employees and I felt so bad for them to have to take crap from him. It was not a pleasant shopping experience. I don't see how they expect to succeed in such competitive markets and offer such a bad customer service. The produce and fruits are always fresh and more affordable than other Asian markets. It isn't the cleanest or well organized store (like Publix or something) but it's mediocre. They have specials all the time and special events for you to win free items and whatnot. Parking is a little tight and the check out lines are usually always long. Thank you to the sweetest ladies and gents -both the customers and the Zion staff. I shop at Zion when husband visits the computer store next door. Tons of produce and boxed products to choose from. Bought some snow peas, oyster mushrooms, sweet cherry tomatoes yellow and red colors all less than what I pay at my local stores. I learned zucchini is called Italian Squash (from Mexico - hint found next to cucumbers). I looked for LEEKS and customers and staff asked what is a leek? I explained it looks like a giant round green onions and viola found them! I enjoyed my browsing my time in the store and sampled a CJ Petitzel pomegranate fruit vinegar drink and eating my strawberry mochi at home. Can't wait to return to buy more exotic food and sample more drinks! read more

I have lived in the Duluth and Lawrenceville area for many years and have enjoyed the diversity. I would often stop into the Zion Market to gather a few items that are not in the regular grocery stores and explore the different foods they offer. But on my last visit, I experience what I deemed and know as racial profiling. As I made my way to the checkout counter, I notice two men watching me intensely and wondered why. I continued to the counter, but a display of sesame bars caught my eye, and I decided to check it out. While looking the items over, I looked up, and the two men were standing there watching my every move. I wondered why they were watching me. I have a tiny purse and a basket full of items, plus I am in the process of buying sesame bars with a price tag of 8.00, so what's the problem? I realized I was the only black person in the store at the time, and once I began to check out, the men went into the managers' office. I was furious and felt violated, but I didn't address it while angry. Once I got into the car, I called and spoke to someone in the manager's office concerning my experience and advised the person that I felt not welcome in their store. I said that I would let everyone know that Zion Market is a racist establishment and to my amazement, the man just chuckled and hung up. read more

There was this man who seems like the manager of the produce department and the market was doing this promotion of giving away the korean yam if you buy over $50. Thus my mom picked up a box of yam and found out they were all dry and small. She went back to change her yams to different one and though it was a free promotion, they should provide customers with their best quality products correct? When we went back into market to change the yams, produce department manager looking guy whose in his early 50s was walking by her side so she kindly complained about that yams are not that fresh; yet that guy replied her in EXTREMELY RUDE manner saying "Then DO NOT BUY them here why here??!" Is that a way to treat your customer who was just making a suggestion for a better quality? The MANAGEMENT should be more careful about hiring their employees to serve the customer in a professional way. Just wish you would treat your customer with better manner. read more

Stopped by for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how clean, well organized and well stocked this market was. I typically frequent Hmart in Lawrenceville (on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd) and will likely make the trip down here as the fish, meat and produce are better priced, yet appear to be of similar quality. From the outside, the market looks pretty small. It's situated right adjacent to Micro Center. When you go walk in, you immediately notice how large the market really is. I went on a Thursday around lunch and it was not too busy (maybe about 15 other customers). Near the front of the shop is a coffee/pastry shop.
