They lost my dog! I was heading out for the weekend and asked for 4 day boarding. Otis (2.5 yrs…read moreold) and I went to meet them and everything seemed fine. I felt comfortable leaving him with people that seemed to be dog lovers themselves. -I told her this was his FIRST time staying anywhere but home. -I told her he's a VERY skittish dog. He's half shihtzu half chihuahua so the chihuahua half gets the best of him sometimes. -I told her he's a calm and behaved dog if he's in a controlled environment like a gated back yard or indoors, Ariana said she could tell and agreed. -I told her I was nervous as well, leaving my fur baby for the first time. -And lastly I told her that even as his owner, I don't trust him off his leash when we're out because of how easily he gets scared and can take off. Having explained all that to Ariana, 4/5 hours into his FIRST day I received a call that she had opened the door and he ran off. Why she opened the door without having a leash on him is beyond me! A dog you've had in your care for no more than a few hours, you can't ASSUME he's going to behave like the other dogs. It's inexcusable! If you expect or only want to care for dogs that "behave" like yours then you should specify what kind of business you want to run. If you are not able to care for dogs with different temperaments please let people know. REPLY: You did lose him. Luckily he was returned because of the GPS tracker he has. I made it clear that he runs if he's scared & this was his first time anywhere but home. That & the fact that he requires a GPS tracker in the first place because of his temperament, should have been enough to make it CLEAR to you what kind of care he requires. It was irresponsible for you to take him in. It's not about being nice, helpful, or you being "great people" to ME by taking in my dog. If you're trying to run a legitimate business you should be open about what you are capable or not capable of doing. I would much have rather you told me that he required too much attention for you to really care for him, than do what you did. Take him in, not watch him carefully enough & he escapes. Yes I don't trust him. He does get scared so he bolts. It's what he does, so even as his owner I always have him on a leash before opening doors. Like some dogs, if he sees an open door he will go for it. He didn't escape to happily frolic through your neighbor's yards. He was nervous his first day there. And the reason I'm replying is because you didn't even call me right away. He was already a mile away from your home when you contacted me. The pictures will show how far he was when I took the screenshot. I sent it to my emergency contact to show her exactly where he was while I was still on the phone with you. It also shows the date of March 3rd which proves it was the day he started his stay. Like I said, he bolts! He could've bolted into traffic during that whole mile chase where you decided to not call me first.

Camilla also trains and has titled a number of the dogs she has ,in shutzhund, obedience and herding. When I was looking for another GSD in 2016 I was referred To Camilla by another GSD person and have been so impressed with her the facility , the dogs, and commitment to them. Her knowledge and an extraordinary website full of information about her dogs and GSD in generals impressive to say the least. She is available anytime for any reason to any person that purchases a dog from SentinelHarts which is an amazing commitment from a breeder. I went up to the kennel to look at an older girl, I didn't really want to get a puppy as I am getting up there in years but I took one look at the stunning Yakobi X Pepe puppy and just felt years younger ! This puppy Hokulani was the most beautiful black sable I had ever seen in my life (it is also my favorite coat color), and I have had GSD's for almost 50years !!! Camilla was so accommodating and I met and played with the dam and sire .Then I play with the 4-5month old puppy for a bit and took her home that day .I also know some of the other owners of SentinelHart dogs all are very happy with their dogs. I have had GSD's for many years and have done a wide variety of things with them including therapy, obedience , tracking, flyball , and search and rescue. In my experience as a trainer and behavioral consultant I have met and worked with hundreds of dogs. This one of the nicest GSD's I have ever owned, Hokulani whose call name is Kayla has great food and toy motivation making her very easy to train . She earned her novice and intermediate trick dog titles and her CGC all done before she was a year old. Kayla is great with other dogs has wonderful dog manners and likes to play with both large and small dogs. She is very good with all the other animals she has met and lives with a dog friendly cat. I am sure that she has some herding potential and we will see come spring. We have started doing some tracking which she totally loves being a very nose oriented girl more titles could be in her future. This dog is so well balanced she could probably do most sports and her preliminary hip x-rays were very good. She is so beautiful I can't take her anywhere without people stopping me and asking about her. This is what a well breed GSD should be! Thank you so MUCH Camilla Sherri Lippman and Hokulani (Kayla)

I had always wanted a GSD since I can remember. Since they require work, we waited until we were…read moreat a stage in our lives where we had the time to put in with one. I believe it's important to do your research on breeds that fit your lifestyle. GSD's have a bit of a reputation for numerous issues, so it was extremely important I found a breeder that focused on the health and temperament of their dogs. The right breeder is really important to us. Our last dog was a Black and Tan Coonhound that we found from a wonderful and renowned breeder in Oregon. I cast my net wide when looking for the right dog since this is a decade-plus commitment and a member of the family. In doing my research I realized there are quite a lot of varieties of GSDs. Working, show, East German, West German, Czech, West German Show, American Show, multiple coat colors and lengths. It can be overwhelming. I was very specific in what I wanted, a female sable. I searched many breeders and came across SentinelHarts Kennels. The website was extremely informative and detailed. I learned so much more about the breed and it allowed me an opportunity to see the results of her breeding practices with past and present males, females, and pups in her program. So many of my questions were already answered from the information provided in the easy to navigate website. Camilla was quick to respond to my inquires. She had interviewed me as much as I did her. Some might be put off by that thinking they are the "customer" however, I would be alarmed if she did not. My previous dog breeders were the same. People tend to obtain dogs on looks and emotions without really knowing what they are getting into. Responsible breeders make sure their pups are going into the right environment to the right people who understand what they are getting into. On our site visit, we went through the same disinfecting procedures with our footwear and hands before entering the dog area as we did when entering the Koala exhibit at the zoo. The facility (her family home) was large, clean and immaculately maintained. She was inviting, informative and allowed us plenty of time to engage with the puppies. Camilla kept us updated on the status of the pups while we anxiously waited for the 8week mark to pick up. Because GSDs can have multiple types per litter if you want something specific you may have to wait for a future litter since nature has the upper hand on what comes out. There were only 2 female sables in the litter I was interested in. She is very clear about 1st pick rights for her line so we waited to see if we would receive Lime or Purple girl. We were given the purple girl which was the one in her sights to keep. This was a very special litter and we were in a special timing situation where we preferred not to wait for the next litter so my college daughter could bond with the pup while home on winter break. When she told us we could have her due to the circumstances were overjoyed. Yeah, I know everyone says this about their dog, but she is special. She is everything I wanted. Her temperament is amazingly sweet and loving with not just our family but with everyone who walks through our door. She's alert and always on sentry to protect our property and family but backs down the moment she realizes there is no threat. This is 100% what I was looking for since we live in a remote area and I am often alone. A guard dog that was also approachable. She is the exact size I was hoping for and her markings and coat are beautiful. Once I was walking around our local reservoir and a woman with two equally beautiful GSDs was walking towards me asked if my dog was a SentinelHeart Pup. I belong to a few Sable FaceBook groups and I'm constantly asked where she came from. I do believe she is a stellar dog and that is the result of the careful and diligent practices of SentinelHart Kennels. Her heart and soul go into her dogs and it shows. The follow-up communication has been wonderful. She is quick to respond to new parent questions and gives great recommendations. The bonus for me is that she was a short drive away. Regarding pricing, she was right on the mark with the other quality breeders I researched. I would be wary of any dog under that price point as there is a lot of expense that goes into acquiring the right breeding stock, titling, proper facility, vet expenses, importing, care, I could go on for days. If you want to play roulette with your pup then shop price point. If you want a responsible breeder who's sole focus is on keeping the integrity of the breed over profits then this is the kennel for you.

Honestly, I think Bolty had some of the best days of his life there... sometimes I even joked he loved it more than being at home with us. During one of the most difficult times in our lives, the team showed us such warmth and empathy. We are forever grateful. Fast forward two years later, we adopted another husky, and sure enough, he is obsessed with Wag Santa Clara too (must be a husky thing ). And we completely understand why. Resource guarding his food bowl, bad at walking, random growling at us, overstimulated by balls/dogs, and generally uncontrollable in any situation. We inquired with a bunch of different dog trainers and decided to go with Refined K9 given their holistic approach. Before Refinedk9, I had tried "positive only" trainers that evaluated Buddha for his food aggression, but they were totally ineffective and, in fact, made his reactivity towards food worse. We were also way over-feeding him and numbing him to treats. Other unqualified trainers were also unable to explain how they would properly introduce an e-collar and why e-collars are used. We were extremely anxious about having Buddha do the 4-week board and train to "reset", but we felt okay after learning Jose has many French bulldogs himself. Even though we didn't get super frequent updates, it was clear every week that Buddha was very well taken care of. Jose took the first week to evaluate our dog, his behavior, and get to know him, without "jumping" into conditioning. He took the time to understand us, our dog's behaviors, and tailored a program to uplevel Buddha slowly (place, relaxing around food, learning how to walk properly, with a gentler prong collar, and then an e-collar). He also helped Buddha learn how to 'communicate' with other dogs and 'socialize' properly in a safe space (not a random dog park). When we visited Buddha, we could tell he respected and liked Jose. I cried with happiness the day our dog came back :) He walked perfectly, he was confident, and knew how to communicate with other dogs. He was calmer in our home but still had his personality. We learned to make hard changes to our environment that was overstimulating for our dog and how to better communicate with him. Even though it's been hard enforcing changes at home, I feel so much happier with our structure. The intake process with Refinedk9 was a little confusing, as we talked to 3 different trainers over phone/email, although all of them recommended Jose for us. At the end of the day, we trusted our decision to move forward, and we are incredibly thankful to have our boy in the hands of a highly experienced and trustworthy dog trainer.

I did a fair amount of research via Yelp, but found Good Dog via Instagram. We met Erik and Teal for "testing" at their facilitating near the Alemany Market, and phew!, Oban passed. The facility is spacious, clean, and has an indoor and outdoor area. We started Oban with 3 days a week playcare. He is picked up between 10-11am and home between 4-5pm. He is exhausted by the time he gets home and we don't experience the witching hour that we do when he is home all day. Unlike off-leash plays at the beach, we are not concerned that Oban will bring home lbs of sand or worse off run away. You can tell that Teal, Erik, and Yvonne all love dogs and they take great care of all of the pups. Sometimes, our Oban sits and stares at the door waiting for one of them to come through and take him away to his happy place. We don't know whether to have hurt feelings, or feel joy because he is so happy to go there. When we were finally able to travel (COVID and all) we boarded Oban with Teal and Erik. They sent us daily pictures and updates about his well-being, and what he was doing. These people just plain love dogs and treat them well.

Charlie has been to both Wag! and Happy Tramps and there is hands-down no comparison. Happy Tramps wins in every regard. See my detailed comparison below. In summary though, when I imagine my own experience as a kid, I would draw an analogy of Wag! to a rainy-day PE class where we were forced to stay in a gym and find things to do whereas Happy Tramps is like summer camp with trail hikes, running, swimming, and beach fun. If your dog is more mellow, then Wag! may be for you. But if you want your dog to be exercised and challenged, then Happy Tramps is the clear winner. Wag! The Good: * Drop off and pick up a little earlier and later than Happy Tramps offers * Camera to watch your dog's activities throughout the day for you helicopter parents (I admit that I stared at the cam as a good procrastination tool while at the office) The Not So Good: * Dogs just wander the gym in a pack waiting to see what the human does * Ratio of dogs-to-humans has to be approximately 30:1 * No mental stimulation * Charlie (my dog) would whine and climb my leg begging not to be dropped off...he clearly didn't like it * Takes time out of my schedule to pick him up and drop him off Happy Tramps: The Good: * Pick up and drop off is provided at your home - you don't even have to be there * Every day is a new adventure - Veronica and Leah make sure to mix up the activities and locations to keep the dogs mentally stimulated * Ratio of dogs-to-humans is no more than 6:1 * Charlie loves Veronica and Leah - he howls in happiness and bolts downstairs to greet them every day * Charlie comes home exhausted from a great day of mental and physical exercise * The price is unbeatable - all day care is same cost as Wag! And if you opt for half a day at half the price, I can guarantee that your dog will still get more exercise than a full day at Wag! For the value that they provide, they could even charge double and I'd gladly pay it. * It is a San Francisco small business - you're supporting local folks from your community The Not So Good: * Timing - with pick-up between 8:00 and 10:00a and drop-off between 3:00 and 4:00p, your dog may be home alone longer than compared to Wag! That's never been a problem for me because Charlie handles being alone fine. Furthermore, he's so exhausted from Happy Tramps that I find him passed out asleep even when I return home after 8:00p. But I understand that some dogs may have separation anxiety or a weak bladder that prevents them from being left for a few hours. If you're considering a dog walking service, please give Happy Tramps a try. Calling them dog walkers does them a disservice - Happy Tramps is a true Dog Adventure Group.
