Beyond terrible. They did not arrive on the day we agreed on and did not contact me to explain; I had to do all the outreach to them. After many calls, they finally agreed to arrive the next morning. They sent one poor guy to load everything by himself from my one bedroom apartment. When he was finished he left two bookcases, a vacuum cleaner, a dining room chair, an ottoman among other things. He said he had no room in the container they use. A mover who cannot move all your belongings! Unbelievable! They never even apologized and they will never compensate me. I hired them to move me from St. Pete, FL to North Carolina. Never, never, never again! Next they tried to charge me 0ver $200 for storage. I never wanted storage. That was not in my contract with them. They also charged me $83 for gas excise tax, which also was not in my contract. I had to fight with them to get those charges removed. Next they did not bring my stuff for TWO WEEKS when the contract said I might have to wait for 8. For two weeks I had to call them to find out what was going on, until I emailed a consumer help-line at a TV station, did they finally start answering my calls instead of putting me on endless holds. Turns out they mostly all work from home and don't seem to know what is going on with the moving jobs. Included in this nightmare was 1-800-Pack Rat who also were less than helpful, and College Hunk Movers who had recommended this mover to me. I used zippy shell for my move from ATL back home to FL. I am incredibly disappointed in the lack of transparency regarding additional fees from my initial sales rep, Andre, and the additional customer service representatives and supervisors. I was told by Andre that my grand total move was going to be 3k all-in (he also said I could reach out with any questions after the initial call to his direct email but never once responded to any of my inquiries even prior ti signing the contract). I was NOT ONCE made aware of additional charges for an elevator and a long haul (no feet were listed as what is considered a long haul). After the movers finished loading I was then hit with two $75 charges. I was provided a paper to sign where the movers would not leave without me signing it. I didn't initial by the line items and was still charged. It is absolutely ridiculous to charge for an elevator as you would assume that it would be a convenience compared to stairs. But beware if you are about to complete your move, that was not the only additional charge that was listed. On top of it, I was never told the container would be mesh and exposed. The website does not detail this either. I would've never chosen them if I knew this. My dresser has paint scratches from rubbing against the mesh. They also stated I could put my own lock on it. I have two types of standard locks. None of them fit on my container so I had to ship long distance completely unlocked. It was the most anxiety filled 8-10 days as I waited for the delivery. If you want a better, more affordable container moving company, consider Red Rover in FL or Pods or spend the money for a full service move and avoid zippy shell. read more

These people are CROOKS. Called in July for a QUOTE on a move cross country we were THINKING of doing. Today I get a text saying my payment of $1,400 FAILED I needed to call and update the call or my furniture would not be delivered. Called them like WTF? Supervisor says I HAVE A SIGNED CONTRACT, which I demanded be sent to me. It has almost a picture drawn on it; not even elongated like a scribbled signature would be. none of the marks on it even LOOK like an attempt at a signature. I emailed Zippy, using their provided email address on their website, on June 12th and received an automated message saying I'd hear back in 24 hours. Nada. I forwarded the email, which opened with sharing my last negative experience with movers and expressed hope that they would be able to provide me with a better one, the following day. Still no response. I called this afternoon to find out if they were still in business. The uber laid back customer service rep, Andre, assured me they were. He was unable to bring up my email because he was in the sales department. So I asked which piece of info would he like to start with. Instead of starting with moving date, he asked for a zip and then my contact info. Ten minutes later he told me there was no availability for the date of my move. Bottom line: I would not do it again nor recommend this service to anyone I know. The move: I was moving from the Detroit area to San Jose, CA. It was a 2400+ mi move and I had to move my 2BR apt and my car. I figured out that the cost of the zippy shell move (~2700) would be not a whole lot more than if I did the move myself, so I decided to try ZS. At origin: the showed up on time (Sept 14) and 3 guys loaded up the shell in a reasonable amount of time. Their leader seemed to have a lot of experience with ZS and suggested I leave behind my floor lamps because they would not survive the journey. I said OK and left them to my landlord. What about my TV? (I had wrapped my 40" LED TV in several layers of bubble wrap and foam.) Yes that will be fine you have that thing wrapped up very well. I said OK, put it on top of the sofa. He said fine. I had some rope and I bought 6 tie down straps from IKEA to help them secure it but he said they only needed the rope. At destination: my shell arrived San Jose (Sept 25) but the earliest they could get it to my apt was Oct 3, a Tuesday. I asked if they could deliver on Sat Oct 7 and after some e-mails they said yes. I called later and asked if I could get some stuff from the shell in the mean time -- the advertise about how easy this is -- but they said they could on Thursday and wouldn't I rather wait until Sat? I said OK. They said the shell would arrive between 9-noon and it ended up coming close to noon. I hired 3 movers to unload it and when I saw my stuff it looked like it had been through hell. Most of it was fine though, just dirty. I filed a claim for 2 things. My TV, which now had a cracked screen, and my desk which looked like someone hit it with a crowbar a couple of times. They responded with this: "We have just discussed that there has been some damage done to your items. Please take the time out to fill out the attached form and send it back to claims@zippyshell.com If you have any evidence of damage, please also attach to the email you will be sending the claims form. Please include: Pictures before the loading Pictures after the loading Receipt for each item claimed, from original purchase Proof of Replacement Cost or Repair" I sent them pictures of: my original receipts, a bunch of boxes to show them the move was rough, and my two damaged goods. I also sent pictures of a Craigslist ad (and link) I had posted in Detroit when I tried to sell some items -- this ad showed my TV was in perfect shape before the move. Their response to my claim was this: "First, we want to apologize that you have had damages to your belongings and sincerely regret that this has occurred during your move and we thank you for taking the time to inform us. There are specific guidelines that must be adhered to before submitting a claim to our insurance carrier for consideration. One of the things that we take into consideration is the coverage that you elected for your move, which in this instance is the Standard Content Protection. All our tiers offer a coverage amount of $50,000 and covers the container should a catastrophic event occur. The Standard Content Protection carries a $5,000 deductible and does not cover natural shifting of items while in transit, loading/unloading of the container, tornado, earthquake, and theft accompanied by forcible. While we respect that your belongings are very important to you, we need to inform you that your claim has been denied as it does not meet the deductible or coverage qualifications." Final remarks: even if they had replaced my two items, worth only $369.93, I would not go this route again. Their sales people are great but after that it felt like a bare-bones operation. They are really not very flexible with delivery dates or letting you access the shell easily -- that's complete BS. Even if I had let them deliver Oct 3, best case, it would have been 19 days for them to deliver the shell. Also, I don't know what kind of "climate controlled environment" they had because my stuff had a lot of dust and even a few leaves, like they left it outside for some period of time. Next time, I will just do it myself even if it sucks at least it will be over sooner and I can get on with my life. Live and learn. read more

Summary: They'll sell you on their services and then not deliver. Throughout your move you'll be stressed dealing with the lack of information, delays and completely unconcerned support staff. Movers beware. We hired ZippyShell for a move between KY and FL; the sales rep guaranteed us the container would arrive in SIX days and matched PODS' rate so we chose them. They were so confident in their logistics they said they'd refund the $500 "expedited delivery" fee. Even though six days doesn't seem expedited to make a one day trip. On May 3rd they just showed up at the house without calling and proceeded to tear up the lawn with the trailer as they picked up the items in KY. They also did not lock the container or provide a key as they said they would so our belongings were unsecured the entire time. After SIX days passed and the container hadn't arrived we called and they said it would be late but couldn't provide a date and couldn't tell us where the container was. At the 9 day mark we got a notification it was "in transit" and then at the 11 day mark another notice it was "in transit" and then we got a confirmed delivery date of the 15th. The movers NEVER ARRIVED on the 15th. When we called we were told it was STILL sitting in a warehouse in KY - hadn't left the state this whole time so the bogus "in transit" texts were a flat out lie. My family members made the drive down from KY in ONE DAY in anticipation of the move-in and based on the unload date they had confirmed twice the week prior to load in. My family arrived, the movers did not. So that was a wasted trip and also posed the question - how could my family do the drive in ONE day and they couldn't do it in 13 days at that point? FINALLY we get another confirmation of delivery on the 22nd... 19 days after it was picked up and 13 days longer than they promised. During the week leading up to that date I kept messaging and calling to find out a delivery time which I never received. In fact, NO ONE called to let us know when they'd be there. We even asked for the number of the movers since they are contracted and were told they didn't have that information. They said they'd make a note to have the movers call us a day ahead since we were out of town. On the 22nd, the day of the move-in, at 8am we got a call as they were just a few minutes away from the house. What a shock... we were staying out of town because basically, due to poor logistics on the part of ZippyShell, it was nearly a month that we couldn't be in the new house because we had no furniture. We had to scramble to get over there and meet them and we still never found out why it took so long. When the movers arrived we mentioned that we had been trying to get their arrival time from ZippyShell and they said no one from Zippy Shell relayed that message to them. The local father and son movers they contracted were great - if only ZippyShell had the same integrity those guys had. The entire process was stressful, we were mislead many times from day 1 until the end and they were quick to charge us over a week ahead of delivery. Main takeaway: Save yourself the stress and hassle and DO NOT HIRE ZIPPY SHELL. If you're on the fence, go with PODS. We've done multiple moves with PODS and had zero problems. That kind of distance is pricey, so I compared prices with all the other pod companies, moving companies, uhaul, etc. This was by far the least expensive option. Moves suck. And this is the first time I've been happy throughout the process. Even after delivery. Not a single thing was damaged and every step of the process was handled with professionalism and care. I'm so thankful to have found Zippy Shell. They made a really stressful move so much easier. From the moment I spoke to the first customer service rep to the moment our stuff arrived, everything was perfect. The guys who dropped off/picked up the trailers in SFO were awesome. Everyone was great even though our old neighbors were complaining we were parked in their yard (we weren't) and that were there for a week (nope. 2 days). Besides that stress?? LOL I've done that stupid move from FL to CA and back, 3 effing times. Its never easy or stress free. Stuff goes missing, stuff breaks. Zippy Shell was the best we've used so far. Nothing was broken in the move, which was nice because the independent movers we paid 800 bucks to load the things did the worst job. We should have just taken the Zippy Shell movers. When we arrived in Fl, we didn't have an address and then we did and needed our stuff because duh, we had paid prorated rent on a house we couldn't live in. Frig. The ladies at Zippy Shell were so nice. Beyond nice actually. I was kinda rude on the phone because I was freaking out a bit, but Miss Marisabell calmed me down and pretty much reminded me why I moved back to the south. Because people are nice and they care even though you're just a customer. Miss Miriam was awesome as well, and sent me the most comforting words. I mean, no one had to do that! I recently moved from Tampa, Fl to Wake Forest, NC. There's nothing about moving that is fun and stress free. I started getting quotes from several moving companies and quickly realized that they charge an arm and a leg and several other body parts to move your worldly possessions. So next least expensive option was zippy shell. They offered loaders included in their quote, which made it that much easier. Platinum relocation movers was the local company used, which was interesting since I actually had gotten a quote from them as well. Would've been more than twice what I actually paid. Marisabell was my coordinator and she was very responsive, even when I had to reschedule my dates due to loan issues. The loaders they used were on time, professional and got the job done. A few minor items arrived broken, not worth the effort to put a claim in as they weren't valuable to me. I would definitely use them again and recommend them. Two days before the shell was to be brought I was told the shell would not be ready and instead my belongings would be packed up in a truck, and later transferred to a shell from a warehouse. So much for the security of closing the shell with your own lock. Unfortunately, not all my belongings made it to my new home. Zippy Shell - Tampa - Movers Near Me - Tampa, Florida

The sales staff was very attentive and the pricing was good for my cross country move. They use franchised warehouses to handle the local pickups and deliveries and this is where the problem lies. The communication is extremely slow between the call center and the local warehouse. Once I requested my pickup date and hired movers, it took a long time and multiple phone calls to get my pickup confirmed. I didn't get confirmation until the night before. My shell did take a little longer than expected to arrive at the destination warehouse but this wasn't a problem for me. I was told when I called to check that if I gave at least 48 hours notice they should be able to accommodate my delivery request. On Monday, I requested a Thursday delivery, but on Tuesday I received a call stating that the earliest delivery available was on Sunday, when I am not available. At this point, they have charged me the complete amount owed, have possession of all of my belongings and I have to wait over a week to move into my new apartment that I am already paying rent for. When I told the agent that I would need to call for a date the next week, she advised that I needed to do it quickly or I may get delayed again. I feel like the sales staff told me whatever I wanted to hear to close the deal with no consideration for how their company actually operates. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was told that they are not allowed to put a supervisor on the phone but they would note my file and I should hear back from a supervisor within 48 hours, if it meets their internal escalation guidelines. I have never heard of customer service not being able to escalate to a supervisor, and this type of delay does not do anything to satisfy the customer who has already paid thousands of dollars for a cross country move and just wants his possessions delivered. I hope, based on the other reviews for the Tampa operation, that my belongings survived the move. read more

My sister used Zippy Shell when she moved to Florida 3 years ago. She recommended them highly for my move from NJ to FL this year. I ordered 2 shells. Total cost 6660.00. The first came on time on 6/4/21 and things went smoothly. The second was due on 6 /29/21. It did not come. After two days on the phone with customer service who could offer no explanation for the "no show", the delivery was reschedule for 7/3/21. It came as promised however, this delay caused my arrival in Fl to be delayed until 7/6721. As a result, I was charged an additional 189.00 because the 1 st Shell was in storage over the 30 days included in the original price. Had the 2nd Shell been delivered when promised, I would have been in Florida on 7/1/21 and avoided this charge. When I called to set up delivery of both shells, I was told between 7/15 and 7/19 and I would receive email confirmation. When no confirmation had been received by 7/15/21, I called to inquire if I could expect delivery when promised. All the rep could tell me was " it's processing" she told me I could not call the shipping department directly and she had no way of contacting them. I would just have to wait for the email. I have been living in an empty house for 10 days with no idea where my belongings are or when I might get them. Zippy Shell has all my belongings and almost 7000.00 of my money. The Order Status feature on their website does not work and there are ridiculously long wait times to speak to a representative. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

My friend, who also moved from Chicago to Los Angeles, referred Zippy Shell to me. The price and flexibility were the primary levers to selecting them over other comparable companies. Although my final moving coordinator (Teryl) was very accommodating and helpful, the one leading up to her was not. I was assigned one before her who didn't pan out with the company and I never received a notification making me aware of a switch. It's the only issue I had with the overall move. The pick-up of our stuff went really seamless. The driver was informative and helpful, which allowed us to complete the loading process within 3 hours. The drop-off also went seamless. I recently used Zippy Shell to move across the country. I was happy with every step in the process of using zippy shell. Great communication the entire time! I grossly underestimated how much stuff I had to move, zippy shell brought me another trailer to fill at a very reasonable cost. I really like the concept of the trailer with the cage inside. I'm the kind of person that packs last second so using a traditional mover is hard because everything needs to be ready to go, with zippy shell I could take several days to load the cage. Overall price was better than any other pod company and cheaper than a moving truck. Both my shells arrived way quicker than I expected which was good because I was worried about getting to my destination and not having my bed and belongings. The guys that unloaded my shells were awesome too!!! I would definitely use Zippy Shell again and would recommend them to anyone that needs to move. read more

Recently moved from Dallas to San Diego using four Zippy Shells through a third party, WeMuvU. The final cost to move a 2000 square foot house that distance was $10,400, which seems high to me compared to what I've paid in the past. WeMuvU's team packed and loaded my belongings, and a third-party contracted by Zippy Shell unpacked them. I had some trouble getting the packers to pack everything--they would say they were done and I'd walk into the house and find more things, and in the end it turns out that quite a few things were left behind that I didn't find out about until later, and that was disappointing, but not Zippy Shell's fault. I had some breakage and damage (like a massive dent in the back of my dryer) that I do NOT attribute to Zippy Shell but at the same time wasn't able to claim reimbursement for because I don't know who caused it. I purchased locks for the Zippy Shells and was told that they weren't the right size and that the Zippy Shell franchise holder in Dallas would supply locks for free. The locks he supplied were the same size as those I purchased, and the Zippy Shell/WeMuvU team retained a key, so in many ways the locking pod concept didn't work there. Someone has the other key...and could have had full access to my stuff at any time. I don't think any theft occurred, but the idea of the owner-locked pod didn't pan out. Zippy Shell assigned a very competent move coordinator who was located (I think) in Washington DC but was easy to contact--I also found that I could call at almost any time to get someone who was able to answer my questions or institute a change in the order. I was also able to contact her by email, which was convenient. I was told the load to allow 10 business days for the delivery, and in fact the Zippy Shells beat me to San Diego. I ended up having the four Shells delivered in two separate loads, a week apart, which was REALLY a nice convenience. If all our stuff had been in one truck I would have had to find room for it in the new little house all at once and it would have been pretty stressful. So that's a big ++ of using Zippy Shell. Another + is that I was able to have some of my things loaded back into a Shell and stored until my next move in 6 months, to a bigger house a couple of miles away. HOWEVER, I was told that the Zippy Shell facility was climate-controlled--maybe that is only in Dallas? and when the team was loading things into the Shell for storage they advised me to not store my paintings because the Zippy Shell San Diego storage warehouse temperature is over 100 degrees much of the time. ??? I kept the paintings here but am pretty nervous about how the rest of my stored items will hold up. I was told that the price included having everything unloaded and put in place and reassembled, and that I had three hours of the unload team's time per Shell. They unloaded everything and put it in the rooms as directed but didn't reassemble anything. It took me 3 weeks to find help to put my bed together and my dining room table is still in pieces after 5 weeks because I can't assemble it without help. I don't think that is Zippy Shell's fault but it isn't what I paid for. I guess overall, 5 stars for the Zippy Shell services of transporting my items from point A to point B, minus 1 star for the 100-degree storage unit. read more

I used Zippy Shell to move contents of two homes from Southern California to Northern Florida. It was a fairly complicated move because one house closed escrow on 6/20 and the other on 7/5. The LA franchise delivered container 3 days before, picked it up promptly and stored it for 15 days until the second container was loaded. They both arrived one day after we did. The Jacksonville owner worked with us getting both delivered and unloaded. Because we boxed our things and loaded co Rainer ourselves - there was no damage or loss unlike many typical moving companies. The pricing was competitive and I saved $. In the beginning, everything seemed great. The company was in contact with us, talked us through everything and even delivered the shell a day early for packing. We thought we had hit the jackpot with this company. In the contractual agreement they state it will take 7-10 business days from warehouse to warehouse. We are a small family and we're about to embark on a cross country move, and already stressed out! We arrive in Ohio ( moved from Arizona) and give it the 10 business days. On that 10 th day, we call zippy shell and learn that they have no idea where our shell is, no update to give us and to just call back another time. That was not acceptable. My husband called back and was told they had nothing to tell him . He asked to speak to a manager and they tell him it will take 48 hours for a manager to contact him ! That is unacceptable!!! Meanwhile, we find out from another source that our shell has not even left the warehouse in Phoenix. Cool! So what exactly are we paying for? Finally, today the manager Rod calls my husband and tells him the same exact thing. We have no idea when it will go out, I'll just let you know when we have some information. We advised him that they now are in breach of contract as we were promised our items in 7-10 business days, and now we are at 11. After a heated conversation with Rod ( and being hung up on atleast 4 times) we still have no answers. We explained to him that we will be expecting some type of discount or compensation because they have not followed through with their end of the deal. He told my husband that once the items are delivered, they will discuss if we will or will not be compensated. This is total bull. They are quick to take your money yet they cannot provide An ounce of customer service whatsoever. So we are without all of our belongings, including my husbands motorcycle which is his mode Of transportation. We are stuck sleeping on the floor and have no items to cook.. our baby it without his crib, toys and more. We are utterly disgusted with how this company has handled this. If we had seen these terrible reviews before hiring them, we would have never used them. Unfortunately we were in a hurry and the price was right. I'll never make that mistake again! We have now disputed our initial payment with Wells Fargo and I'm pretty sure this is headed into being a lawsuit. Do not use his company unless you never want to receive your items. read more

Nashville, TN to Seattle, WA From my first email with Rebecca getting quotes for my move to the easy (and free) unload I got in Seattle, Zippyshell was a great choice. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the move coordinator I was assigned. He over promised and under delivered and his response time left something to be desired. Twice I had to reach back out to Rebecca in order to get a response and she even had to loop his supervisor in at one point. Aside from that one individual, every single person I dealt with was friendly, helpful and understanding. Steve in Nashville was an angel. I had to do some last minute rearranging of my items and he pulled up while that was happening. He didn't get frustrated but instead offered to help me. He was so kind. Where do I start? Let's start by saying that I firmly believe that no one in the corporate offices have ever moved themselves and have no idea how to even remotely provide services. Beyond this general complaint, I experienced the following: (1) Expensive - While I can't hold this against them since most moves are expensive, beyond the 3k they charged me for a long distance move from PA to VT, they charged an additional $220 after the move because the move was "long haul" (wasn't that already established in the moving cost??) and it was "heavy" (come on..). (2) Unorganized which led to 12 hour delay from original arrive time - Corporate automatically gives you an estimated arrival window of 8am-12pm. For my shell drop off and loading, my movers arrived at NINE PM due to some "miscommunication" between the corporate and local moving office. That is TWELVE HOURS LATE. I had to cancel all my own personal travel plans which resulted in an additional $500 to pay for a hotel and flight. The movers loaded until 1am. Luckily, it was going into storage and we did not need to complete the rest of the move that night. (3) Horrible customer service - I tried to call the office to get a sense of when the movers would arrive for my shell drop off and unloading (especially after I experienced such a delay during the loading). They said they couldn't provide a more accurate time nor could they provide me with the local moving company's information so I could call them directly. They said I had to wait until the date of the move to get details on the move such as expected arrival time. When I said that just wasn't going to work, the woman responded with "moving is an all day event. I suggest you pack a lunch and wait." Seriously? All I was looking for was a realistic timeline beyond the generic "8-12" so I could determine if I needed to wake up at 5am to drive to my new home or 7am. (4) Hidden fees - they can charge for whatever they want apparently. I got hit up with a time delay of $70 after they arrived AFTER their ETA of 8-12 and AFTER they made me wait 12 hours during my unloading, a heavy load of $75, and a long haul of $75. I plan to call customer service to dispute but after several conversations with Rod and his team, I seriously doubt any corporations or help from this horrible company. I can't say enough good things about Zippy Shell. I worked very closely with Brian in Tampa and he went above and beyond to make a hectic move seemless. At the last minute I need an extra bin. Brian took time out of his day to personally deliver and pick up the bin. It's hard to find good customer service like this these days. If you are moving short or long distance, I highly recommend them. The fact that I could take my time to pack and then have the bin moved to storage was a life saver. This site made me choose at least one star, but I give Zippy Shell zero stars for the way my move was handled. All of my belongings (two shells) were shipped to Seattle, WA instead of Omaha, NE!! My delivery date was scheduled for September 14th, but due to this huge mistake, they delivered on the 24th! It was almost impossible to get any straight information about what happened...they even tried to say that I called and changed my address...really?? Throughout this whole mess, I told them clearly that I wanted full compensation for their error and was told we will discuss after your things arrive. I finally found out yesterday that will not compensate me AT ALL! They said that they actually made it ahead is schedule....what??? The fine print in the contract says they have a 12-day leeway after your scheduled delivery date! Don't be fooled people...DO NOT use Zippy Shell! read more

Having just completed a NYC to LA move, during which our belongings resided for a few months in a storage facility in California before arriving at our final destination in LA, I feel compelled to call out the Zippy Shell folks in Tampa by name because I'm creepy like that..... Susan, Ruth, David! I was completely convinced when I first talked to you guys and you undercut all the other companies prices by two grand ($$!!) that you were a fly-by-night company that was going to lose/break our stuff and/or slap up with crazy hidden fees after you got our stuff and could hold it hostage. I was BLISSFULLY WRONG! Everyone I spoke to in Florida, most especially you three above, were calm, understanding, consistent, and truthful, even when we were hysterical. The cost stayed the same the whole time, no hidden fees or mysterious price changes-----what I was quoted was exacted what showed up on my Credit Card. The moving guys in Brooklyn showed on time and were great, babying a PIANO down 2 flights of winding tenement stairs without nary a complaint. We were alerted when our container arrived in LA, and my wife was able to easily arrange access with you guys to get some things she needed for work. And then you (David I'm calling you out!!) went out of your way to smooth out the moving of our belongings from the warehouse to our new house when it got complicated - including the darn PIANO.... And once again, the moving guys were on time, careful and sweet dudes. So thank you all for blowing up my pessimism about moving companies, (well just yours) and leaving me with an absolutely boring story to tell about our cross country move because nothing went wrong..... My how things have changed with this company in 1.5 years. My first move went great! Perfect actually. This time around they have changed their contracts, how they bill, and movers. They "include" movers in the quote, who were awful. They showed up and said that all of my stuff wouldn't fit in the shell and I started to panic as we were moving cross country that day. They also said there would be extra charges for my staircase up to my apartment and the long walkway. Neither of these were the case before. My Zippy Shell is in storage and they have already billed me for the entire move, which they were NOT supposed to do. And again, different from before when I used them. Previously, I paid half, paid the monthly storage fees, and then paid the rest of the balance once the unit was delivered to my new apartment. They have already billed me for everything and I am furious. I have called customer service and they said there is nothing they can do, this is their new procedure. I will not go on and on anymore, but I would advise to not use them and pay the extra money for PODS or one of the other companies. read more

LOL at this company. Each part of the move had a different headache associated with it. 1. Gregory Forrester, the salesman who sold me the contract was pretty responsive until I had signed on the dotted line. Then I never was able to get him to pick up his phone again despite calling several times with important clarifying questions. 2. On the day of the delivery, they called saying they would have to bring a shell that was different sized than the one I paid for because the Richmond Va facility did not have those types of shells. To top it off, the guy who showed up was a Pack Rats moving employee with a Pack Rat shell, not a Zippy Shell. Apparently they're the same company, who knew... not us! Pro tip, getting in touch with either company is nearly impossible. 3. The shipment of our pod took several days longer than guaranteed, and we never got a single word about when it shipped, where it was in transit, or when it arrived. We had to call to find all that out. 4. Calling zippy shell is what I imagine people in purgatory have to do on a daily basis. We sat on hold, in an empty apartment, for TWO DAYS after our pod arrived. Like seriously on hold for about 12 total hours. When we finally got a call back, Erica told me that it wasn't their fault, the hold time was BETWEEN 5 AND 6 HOURS. Erica didn't see how that might be an issue. I wanted to put Erica on hold for 5 hours so she could see if it felt like a big deal. Erica was.... not the world's best customer service rep. My favorite quote of hers was "I can put in a request to have the pod expedited to you all since it was late, but that is not going to actually happen." Cool Erica, that sounds helpful. Kick rocks. 5. Samuel, Erica's supervisor, was nicer and smarter--but his best plan was to "have the guys unload your pod into a truck and then unload the truck at your apartment". Nah Sam, that wasn't the deal. All our stuff is tied down in the pod so it doesn't fall over. 6. We paid for 'professional movers' to unload the pod. Morning of, I got a text from the mover saying "hey sorry we overslept we will be there about an hour late". Now these movers... LOL. Zippy Rat or whatever this company is called just contracts out to random people who are in no way professional movers. The guys who showed up looked like they had been up partying until about 4am. I'll give them credit for not outright breaking anything, but it was a laughable experience. 7. Zippy refused to compensate us in any way for any of this inconvenience despite Erica saying word for word "Nobody is telling you that you did anything wrong. We made the mistake here." 8. Oh Erica, I will not miss you or Zippy Rat. Service itself was reasonably priced and the container was a good size, however a few things stood out to me that were negative. 1) our moving coordinator changed roughly 4 times either because of someone being fired, quit, or some kind of promotion. Either way there was very little communication with who or what the situation was. 2) overall communication and wording of situation was bad. We were told there's 15 free days of storage on either end of the move, and we said we'd be driving to the destination as soon as we packed the container so we didn't need the storage time on the first half, just probably a few days at the destination while we found an apartment. When we called to have it brought to the destination, the guy said it was still in New York and would take probably another 7 days to get there. Awful. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience but they need to work on their communication and maybe have better informed staff. read more

Move from CA to DC. Pretty good overall. Price seemed better than PODS. It was nice when my moving coordinator wasn't available, I was always able to talk to another coordinator that was more than willing to answer my many questions. It was great that they were able to park the shell in my tight driveway. That saved me a great deal of time and energy! I have a couple issues to report: 1) When dropping off my second shell, I was only given 4-5 hours to fill it up before they would come pick it up. It would have been nice to have a full day, because we ended up not getting everything on the trailer and had to give a bunch of stuff away. 2) Our shells sat in CA for a while and they didn't give me a tentative date of arrival until day 5 or 6, and they said it would be 2 days after their maximum 10th day. So I had to reschedule my unloading help, but then I was told it could arrive on the 10th and 11th days, so I again had to reschedule my unloading help. Anyway, it was annoying not knowing the delivery date until basically 2 days before. I packed them myself, and nothing was broken in the move! Customer Service and the truck drivers were all very nice! This is a legitimate company to work with. read more
