Korean fried chicken and two mac salad scoops
    Stephanie V.

Service was fast and friendly. I always get Korean fried chicken with double mac instead of a scoop of rice plus macaroni salad. The KFC takes a little bit to be ready but I'd rather wait a bit and get fresh, hot chicken. My chicken was great. Fresh, crispy, hot, and plenty of sauce. Mac salad is zingy and the perfect amount of saltiness. Plenty of tables to sit at and eat your food. I think I got plenty of chicken in my order and it tasted great. I would definitely come back to this location again. Even though it's not the closest one to me, I like it a little better than the one on Kapahulu.

If you're not familiar, Zippys is Hawaiis answer to fast casual comfort food, somewhere between a fast food and a diner experience. They have an extensive menu with several hawaiin classics and is open late which makes it a perfect post-drink meal. I got the ZipPac which is a rice plate that comes with a piece of fried fish, fried chicken, teriyaki beef, and a slice of spam. Absolutely phenomenal. My only complaint was the wait time-the food took quite a while to come out. I also ordered the saimin (basically like cup noodles), but after about 30 minutes, I ended up asking them to cancel it. That said, the manager and servers were really apologetic and friendly about it, and they even offered to comp it, which I appreciated.

Zippy's is by far my favorite fast food place! Plenty of local food options and the bakery is simply amazing! Some of the best pastries, pies, and desserts I've ever had. Zippys is my favorite Korean fried chicken spot. My go to order is the Korean fried chicken plate with a Lilikoi juice and apple napple. Classic local spot everyone should try. Servers at this location were kind and the ambience is like a diner. Not the cleanest but nothing too bothering.

    Soup base for large saimin

We ordered through the Zippy's app tonight. Normally when ordering food we go through Uber Eats, but for Zippy's we have tried both and so far it's been pretty easy. But tonight we ordered through the Zippy's app and it wasn't so great. We ordered through a large saimin, a combo mushroom burger with extra mushrooms and small chili with no beans, one piece chicken, and a large bang. The drink and mushroom burger and noodles was undamaged, but the soup base for the large saimin was a disaster. We opened the delivery bag and the soup base is everywhere. And the box that held the saimin noodles, the extra mushrooms, and the chicken were drenched with soup base. The napkins were soaked and the chicken was soggy. Although we love using the app to pick up our order, the price difference isn't that much. And the Zippy's app allows us to use our zipster points towards our order. But with Uber Eats we can track the delivery from the time they leave and other stops along the way. So no more deliveries from Zippy's ;(

    Pork Cutlet. Order something else

The worst Pork Cutlet I've ever had. It was tough and chewy, most of it all stuck between my teeth! No joke. How can A fine establishment like Zippy's even buy such a low quality pork? Ridiculous. $16.65!

This was my first time ever trying Zippy's, and I seriously wish I had discovered it sooner! This location isn't in a busy tourist area like Waikiki, so we had no trouble getting a table, and there was plenty of parking available. The service was a bit slow at first, we waited at the door for almost 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Once our server arrived, she was super sweet and attentive. The menu has plenty of Hawaiian classics, like loco moco, but we decided to try something a bit more hearty. We ordered the Chicken Trio to share, and it was definitely a hefty portion. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy, and the Korean fried chicken had a sweet glaze that I actually loved, even though I'm not usually a fan of sweet flavors. The fried chicken really stole the show. Crispy, juicy, and with the perfect breading. I was craving it for days after we left! It also comes with a mac salad and two scoops of rice. The rice was a bit mushy but overall still enjoyed our plate. Recommend 10/10!!!

After a long flight from LA, the first stop is zippys for some good old Hawaiian food lol We got the loco moco, chicken katsu and the kids spaghetti! I feel like the loco moco's patty could've been a little better, but it might be a personal preference. The chicken katsu was bomb! The chicken was moist and crunchy. The service was spectacular, from when we came in we were warmly welcomed and the service throughout our meal was very friendly. Definitely a staple part of our Hawaii experience!

Korean fried tofu platter with Mac salad

This review is specifically for the lent special, Korean fried tofu platter. It is so good, I look forward to it every year, please make it year round. Your current tofu burger is ok, but this special Lent platter is 10/10 and would expand the fast food vegetarian options.

Good comfort food that makes you feel like home. My go-to is usually the Fried Chicken plate (winners!) but this last visit, we got a clubhouse sandwich and the Korean chicken/chili mixed plate. We like to come to this one because it has the dining side and not just takeout. It's a good stop for late night food! Service is always good and the servers are friendly. Last night there were only 2 workers but they managed the crowded restaurant well! Still very attentive despite being busy.

    Christopher K.

His name is Oscar, idk if he was having a bad day or something but he was by far the worst zippys employee I have ever dealt with, he was very rude, body language like he didn't want to be there, sighing when we'd ask a question or anything. Constantly yawning, threw our receipt at us. Just overall a bad experience. No aloha at all

    Spaghetti with chili

It was late. I just left Anna O'Brian's and I needed to eat. One of my friends told me about the July special so I went to get it: regular spaghetti with garlic bread and you get a mini for free. That spaghetti hit the spot! And I saved the mini for breakfast on the day I left! This really is a great special so take advantage of it because it is only for July! Mahalo Zippy's!

First stop Zippy's!! I love Zippy's with all my heart and my go to will always be the chili chicken plate you just can't beat it-Zippy's has a bucket of chili for a reason! Just too good! For someone whose never tried Zippy's before, def consider opting for zip pac deluxe-has a little bit of everything- spam, Teri beef, fried fish, Mac salad, rice, and of course the chili and chicken! The best! My partner who never had Zippy's before said it was his favorite thing he ate in Hawaii!! side note though the bathrooms here (at the time we visited) was gross so maybe go bathroom somewhere else if you need to go...

This place is nostalgic to me and i loved every moment of it. The food tasted almost as when i first had it, but it has gone slightly down. I really enjoyed the fried chicken doe. My mom has been hounding me to get her the same chicken as we had back then, when she finaly got it, she was so satisfied.

Later they took over the Soba side and opened the Yoshoku section, and now it seems like they've merged everything -- though the menu feels mainly Tonkatsu-focused. I made a mistake this time and didn't order my usual Pork Tenderloin Katsu. I tried the Oyster Mix Katsu (Oyster, Shrimp, Pork Loin), and the seafood pieces had way too much breading -- the actual seafood was maybe half the size of the whole piece, which was disappointing. My partner ordered the Bairin Mix Katsu, so I got to try the Minced Pork Katsu, and that was amazingly delicious. Service was great, and we got a 20% Kamaʻaina discount plus parking validation for the Bank of Hawaii lot for 1.5 hours. One lady made it sound like she was giving us extra time, but the website says 1.5 hours anyway. Note to myself: stick with the Pork Tenderloin Katsu or the Minced Pork Katsu next time.

I didn't expect much from this small corner diner, but everything turned out real solid! The exterior is especially entrancing, with its bright, rainbow neon sign that glows out the darkness of the night! The hooded interior was clean and followed well with the rainbow theme, especially with its rainbow pastel, title wallpaper. I would also like to compliment the workers, who were very nice and approachable! We ordered the loco moco plate, mixed plate, and saimin. Both plates were very filling and came in huge portions! The plates are for sure a top choice if you want a nice, hearty dinner! I especially enjoyed my loco moco! The saimin was less filling and came in an instant noodle cup. Still yet, it wasn't half bad--and it actually seems like a fairly good piece if you are on a diet or budget; it wasn't as expensive as the other dishes and only came out as 220 calories! I also want to note that they have a variety of tasty dessert pastries and icee treats if you are looking for a treat after your dinner. Overall, I would say this is a great diner to try if you've got a big appetite and are looking for something to share with a friend or family! Great vibes and great Hawaiian plate meals!

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.
