I've been coming to Zippy's since I was a kid. Always good. Great place and employees. Prices change but no problem.

This Zippy's has been here forever. This is the OG that started it all to be exact. The McCully restaurant was opened in 1966 and expanded to many more locations. I'm happy that they're opened 24 hours. My friends and I would go clubbing until 3am back in the day and come eat here afterwards. I always got the mini fried chicken and fries for some reason. I'm still fond of their fried chicken and fries, but my palate has since expanded to other dishes. I tend to get the Zip Pac now or the sweet and sour spareribs. They only serve the sweet and spareribs twice a week, so it can be a pain in my butt. I have to go on their website to see what day it's being served. Most times I'll just ask for a water, but once in a while I'll get an orange bang or lilikoi drink. I hate consuming empty calories. I'd rather save it for real food. Their napples are good. I like how they're using different flavors. I recently tried the lemon and cream cheese, and also the guava. They were both good. They should keep doing different flavors of the month. They have raised the prices and the portions are smaller. I guess it's a sign of the times. However, if you download their app you can accumulate points for free food. read more

Sis take out for dinner last night I'm which can order online fast and easy. The location has private small parking lot to park for free. They have quite a few order online/mobile parking spots right up in front when you arrive. I recalled there was about 10. Ordered a Zip Pac platter. A piece of golden fried chicken, a breaded white flaky hoki fish filet, a tender slice of teriyaki marinated beef, and Spam®, on a bed of rice topped with classic Japanese takuan pickled radish and furikake seasoning. Avoid this location at all cost. These workers don't have pride in their job. They don't care about making good food. Three different times i ordered chicken katsu from this location and each time I got home and opened the lid, burned chicken katsu. How? Terrible cooks with no skill. I love Zippy's especially the one in McCully. The food here is awesome, great tasting and the portions here are perfect for me and my family. My grandma and I have been going here for years and the customer service here is 100%. We really appreciate and love Brandon. Whenever we walk in the store in the morning , Brandon is always soo welcoming. He always remembers and greets us, makes us feel comfortable and always brightens up our day. This Zippy's has such awesome employees and they ALWAYS take care. We always feel the spirit of Aloha here! When busy , lines could get a little long and wait time will be longer because it's just that good here. They always keep the area nice and clean. And there is lots of parking outside. Disappointing Experience Zippy's is usually my favorite fast food place, but this location is by far the worst. The food had no flavor and the service was really slow. I ordered a Portuguese sausage omelette breakfast sandwich -- it came out cold, the bread smelled and tasted old, and the egg wasn't cooked all the way with some yolk running out. The mac and cheese had no flavor at all, and the teri beef plate barely had any meat. If you're going to Zippy's in town, go to the Vineyard location -- they're the best! Ive been going to that location for years since my house is so close and I've never had any problems there. The food is always good, they're really fast, and the people are wonderful. The servers are friendly accomodate each table with care. There's three Zippy's locale we go to! Zippys I love you for being around forever and doing your best and having jobs for the local people. But this locations takeout takes too long and your prices have increased while your portion size has decreased. I think waiting 35 minutes for 3 plate lunches is not a good time. You can do better. The food was tasty, as always. Quality, consistency, and flavors were all there. Unfortunately, they were short staffed and both the side with servers and the side that you walk up and order were slammed. We tried to get a table on the server side but were warned that it would be a really long wait because there was only one cook. So we went to the walk up and order side, where the line was super long as well. The kitchen is shared so it really didn't matter which side we went to. The staff were friendly and patient, nothing wrong with their efforts at all. It's just that they need to hire more people to keep it flowing smoothly. I'd recommend you order in advance and pick up to shorten the wait time. We didn't know so had to learn the hard way. read more

Island staple with local favorites and great service. This was the impression I walked away with after our first experience. It has a very "Dennys" feel to it but with better tasting food. It seems to have an Asian, Chinese and Hawaiian fusion style to its Comfort food menu. The Fried chicken and chili is a must try. Chili with rice mixed was a first for me but definitely not a last. I even noticed they sell it by the tub... wish I didn't have a 12 hour flight back home lol or I just might. I will say that the Mac salad is probably the best on the island, and we tried a lot of Mac salad on our Oahu food tour trip. My husband said his Korean fried chicken had really good taste, with a crispy outing and flavorful center. We plan on visiting again on our next trip to try a few other local favorites. read more

My last and 3rd review over the years of this Zippy's..... strictly for the DINE IN SIDE ONLY! If I could give this zippys dine in NO stars I would. What's sad is, my husband and I and our daughter decided to come to zippys around noon, surprisingly it wasn't that busy, but it was still busy enough that there were quite a bit of people there. We got seated within 10 mins of arriving which was alright... As we sat down the waitress gave us our menus and walked away, didn't say one word to us, besides giving me the bathroom code cuz I needed to use the bathroom. I took less then 3 min in the bathroom and when I got back to our seat I already knew what I wanted. We all pretty much knew what we wanted to eat. I made EYE CONTACT, with this waitress, we tried to call her over but she didn't. We noticed she sat 3 more tables down and gave them water and talked to them. But us? No water, we were sitting there with the menus twiddling our thumbs. It's now 25 mins and she hasn't come to our table. After every attempt to get her attention she just ignored us. I remember my first Zippy's experience was a tub of chili my cousin brought to the mainland. Since then I've been hooked. Now to visit the OG location, what a treat! AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking and street parking. You shouldn't have any issues unless someone is hosting an event. Seating: Inside seating for groups from individuals, pairs, or a tourist group of 6. Feels: You're a hop, skip, jump away from Waikiki and the Ala Moana mall but still relatively distant from the touristy side. The place is pretty spacious and generally maintained. I dig the local music playing and looking at their lengthy menu of ono grindz. Nothing too flashy, just your usual restaurant that's a great place for a grab-and-go or if you want to sit in before the next adventure. FOOD: Zippy's Chili Cheese Fries (Recommend) Fries are good BUT with Zippy's chili? Oh my goodness. Fries are generally great by themselves with a good savory crunch. The cheese was semi-melted which provided a nice supplementary gooey kick to it. However when you add Zippy's Chili, the creamy texture and multiple savory flavors are mixed in the ground beef and beans. Yummm! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly and quick. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. No complaints here. I know there are great individual places but this is a great local franchise. They have everything from your to-go meals to the family. Most Zippy's collaborate with Napoleon Bakery for some other sweet goods. This is a great stop-and-go if you're trying to go around the island or just experience a pleasant taste of Hawaii. Standard Zippy's food, and a must-have every time I'm here. Vegetarian review: The vegetarian chili is great. The bowl with rice- yum. Macaroni salad- also very good. Not too salty, but well flavored. Corn bread- toast it, and it's fantastic. Crisp and sweet, soft and crumbly- great texture and flavor. Tofu burger- awful. Seriously, do not get it. Soggy, bland, and gross. I added cheese, but I doubt very much that anything would make it edible. Parking- easy, even though the parking lot is small. read more

Its Two Star 2uesday! The Lyft driver dropped me off at the McCully location by accident, so I tried to make the best of it. McCully is take out only, vs Makiki that has dine in. Our order was filled after a couple of others who came after us were filled: I fukn hate when that happens. To add insult to injury, my main sat for a while, so it was lukewarm at best. In addition, our orange bangs didn't have ice. I've been to a number of Ziopys locations on O'ahu. They generally offer good local food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. However, I will never return to this one bc of the errors in service. read more

There are lots of parking on my early morning runs to McCully Zippy's. I always stop by for a small bowl of chili, no beans, and rice. Unusual right? I have a old taste or childhood favorite for Chili Pie, a mainland term for chili over Frito chips. I had this last when I was ten years old. The small drive-in in a small town in Buns Flat Oklahoma, outside of Clinton Sherman Air Force Base. My dad decided to give me a treat and cost 15 cents before heading out to a long drive to Oklahoma City which was 100 miles one way. Let's talk about breakfast for champions! I'm dating myself. McDonalds hamburgers were 10 cents! For a family of nine kids that was a deal or 10 burgers for $1.00 which was advertised at the Golden Arches and shared french fries way back when! However, I had ordered the chili-chicken plate and stuck my chips in the chili. This plate is my brunch which includes breakfast and lunch, but can't eat it in one session... . The meaty chili spices go great with the crunchy and saltiness of chips, somewhat adding a richness! You should try it... yummy! I eat at Zippys at least x a week. I'm tired of seeing commercials about how they've revamped Zippys and yet the quality of the food has gone down hill. I use to love the Korean fried chicken. It was crispy and juicy. Great tasting. Now it's slimy and big nasty uncut up chunks of fatty garbage. I don't order it anymore. Now my most enjoyable meal, which is breakfast, has been ruined as well, with over priced plastic, chewy, raw hide tasting bacon... The bacon use to be crispy and delicious. Now it's like some pre made Hormel tasting garbage. I've been eating at zippys for 20yrs. I'm disgusted and disappointed. I will not be ordering the bacon anymore as well. Please don't put out commercials if you're not going to follow through with decent food.... The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Hawaii locals (in general) like Zippy's because the hours are convenient and the food is consistent. Zippy's used to be a 24 hour a day establishment, but... Not anymore. Recently, the dining-in restrictions make small businesses jump through hoops. In the big picture, it's maybe for the best - for the safety of the public. However, I remember when my college classmates and I would hang out at this particular Zippy's and study until the wee hours of the morning! It had good lighting, proper ventilation, and a safe restroom nearby. Today, I was in the neighborhood and remembered that I had a gift card to use. Almost on the starvation mode, I quickly made my way over to the free parking lot. There were many spaces to choose from because it was between lunch and dinner time. I selected the famous Zip Pac. It's a standard box lunch with takuan (pickled daikon), fried chicken, spam, battered fish filet, and teriyaki beef on a bed of white rice sprinkled with Furikake. It's quite filling with the variety of tastes and textures: salty spam, crunchy chicken skin, sweet teriyaki, etc. Visiting this McCully location brought back a lot of fond memories of my classmates who helped me through Nursing School. Zippy's is the discrete place that is always by your side when you least thought you needed...constantly reinventing itself with promotions and monthly specials I just love and appreciate how it evolved. Not one to order online or by phone Zippy's do have it so super easy to do so with location choices, date and time desired for pick up makes it easily to do so and also knowing if they're out of items without wasting your time and standing in the long long lines and be disappointed I admit is great. Today was I did preorder a tup of warmed chili for pick up after work, they still have curbside pickup option but did go in to pickup and pay. I have my most favorite restaurants, my wife has hers. Zippy's is one place we both love, and so we were equally happy to hit up Zippy's McCully. I don't know how many different Zippy's I've visited, maybe 5 or 6. They're all a little different, but they're all great. It's not just the food, which is surprisingly good for a kinda fast food place. It's really the employees, as much as the food, that make Zippy's such a fun place to eat. The wait staff is always cheerful and eager to get you anything you need to make your dining experience better. Our waiter, Jayeren answered all out menu questions, explaining why I couldn't find Chicken Long Rice on the menu (it's on the rotating specials menu, not part of the regular menu, so it has limited availability). I wanted Chili Fries, but I don't like chili on my fries. I like my chili separate. The normal way restaurants makes chili fries disgusts me. You just get soggy fries that way, and, unh unh, I'm not about no soggy fries. So I order them separate. The fries stay crispy, the chili stays hot, and Mikey is happy! Being an excellent waiter, Jayeren noticed what I was ordering and suggested I might just as well order Chili Fries. I affirmed my order, thanked him for the suggestion, and repaid his kindness by not boring him with my whole I hate soggy fries diatribe. Jayeren was absolutely cool with my peculiar order. Total pro, that guy. I've been crazy about Zippy's chili since the first time I had it years ago. But in all the times I visited, I had never tried the No Beans version. Oh man, I'm never going back to the bean version. The no beans version rules supreme! I used the cup of chili as kind of a dip, scooping it out of the cup with those delicious, crispy Zippy's fries. If there's anything I like better than Zippy's chili, it's Zippy's fries. In my opinion, Zippy's fries put McDonald's fries to shame. Stop crying, McDonalds. You had your chance. My wife was bummed the Chicken Long Rice wasn't on the specials menu. She wanted soup, so she decided to try the Wun Tun Min. She absolutely loved it! That was a HUGE relief to me, because I was worried I might have to share my chili fries. Yeah, you're gonna need to order your own. These ones right here are spoken for. I visit this Zippy's on occasion but I have not been here in awhile. Then I downloaded Zippy's app a couple of weeks ago and made a visit this afternoon. It was the last Friday in June...had to get the Hawaiian Plate Deluxe while still available. For $13.95, you get beef stew, kalua pork, small pork lau lau, tossed greens/mac salad and, white/brown rice. You can make substitutions for a bit extra and modify other details of your order in the app. Add poi for $3.85. A few weeks back, ordered some pastries; just walked up. The various doughnuts and Napples are usually good to excellent. The regular Napples are winnahs. It's been awhile but Zippy's Chili is a favorite of mine...right there with Rainbow's...so it won't be long before I order some chili. Service was good on both occasions. Mobile order gave pick up time at 1437 but I think I got my food at 1442...minor quibble. I ordered a ZipPac with no fish and extra chicken...when I opened the ZipPac...there was no chicken and two pieces of fish...the receipt specifically said no fish extra chicken....the plate was 7/8 rice and not even an 1/8 of shredded cabbage. Well here's another update on Zippys. I had so much problems with Zippys in the past but today my wife was craving for Zippys so I told her if she buys lunch than I'll go . I boycotted Zippys about a year ago because service is horrible and the portions are small and the prices is over priced. Got to the McCully location and due to social distancing there was a sign with a scan bar so you can put your name on the waitlist because there's limited tables available. Not to bad I was first on the list and waited about 10mins. My wife ordered small wun tun Mein and I ordered their Fried Tofu w/Korean sauce. As you can see on my picture I understand that tofu shrink when you deep fry it but cmon look at the portions ? I was not full at all so once again epic fail . The only thing Zippys got going is variety menu and lots of location for convenience. If you looking for massive portions and cheap prices your not going to get it here. Been going to the mccully location for a long time. Excellent service from Brandon. He is normally the one taking your order. He always remembers to ask if you want white rice or brown rice. Toss salad or mac salad. Very efficient. You can also include your bakery items on the same order. And since I know Brandon for a long time, he will wave hi to me when I walk in. And he will include utensils as well. I've heard many good things about Zippy's so I came here for breakfast. I ordered the Garlic Rib Steak breakfast, one scoop of Macaroni Salad, and cheese fries. The food was comforting and on point. The only downfall was that I couldn't taste the garlic in the steak. Otherwise, the food was prepared decently! The service was fine. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the greatest either.
