Came here 2 days in a row for the deal because Monday, was the day after Lala, and Kahala Zippy's was drowning in orders to fill. Then we tried Kaimuki Waialae Ave, but it was closed. Mom's birthday week part I. To help celebrate Mom's 88th birthday. my sister and brother-in-law visited for a week. After my parents picked them up from the airport, there were a couple of hours free before they checked into the hotel. It was lunchtime, so everyone was hungry. 1st stop- Zippy's! We went to the McCully location as it was the closest to the hotel in Waikiki, and they had a sit-down restaurant area. As i was the closest, I was the first to arrive. The sit-down restaurant portion is in the back or makai side. Checking in, it was pretty empty. They told me that they couldn't sit the party until everyone came. So I waited and watched the restaurant fill up. When my family finally arrived, the big group tables were taken and we were split between two tables. As comfort & nostalga was the words for the day, I think with the exception of one everyone got some variation of the chili/fried chicken mix plate. I also ordered a cup of their famous Portuguese Bean Soup. The food arrived quickly, the taste was good as usual- Zippy's is very consistent. Sit-down prices were not that much different then the casual dining side, surprising. At other locations there is a noticably difference. My Portuguese Bean soup order was overlooked, but we weren't charged for it. It fulfilled the goals and a good way of passing the time until their check-in. Repeat and recommend! read more

The KFC takes a little bit to be ready but I'd rather wait a bit and get fresh, hot chicken. My chicken was great. Fresh, crispy, hot, and plenty of sauce. Mac salad is zingy and the perfect amount of saltiness. Plenty of tables to sit at and eat your food. I think I got plenty of chicken in my order and it tasted great. They have an extensive menu with several hawaiin classics and is open late which makes it a perfect post-drink meal. I got the ZipPac which is a rice plate that comes with a piece of fried fish, fried chicken, teriyaki beef, and a slice of spam. Absolutely phenomenal. My only complaint was the wait time-the food took quite a while to come out. I also ordered the saimin (basically like cup noodles), but after about 30 minutes, I ended up asking them to cancel it. That said, the manager and servers were really apologetic and friendly about it, and they even offered to comp it, which I appreciated. read more

We ordered through the Zippy's app tonight. Normally when ordering food we go through Uber Eats, but for Zippy's we have tried both and so far it's been pretty easy. But tonight we ordered through the Zippy's app and it wasn't so great. We ordered through a large saimin, a combo mushroom burger with extra mushrooms and small chili with no beans, one piece chicken, and a large bang. The drink and mushroom burger and noodles was undamaged, but the soup base for the large saimin was a disaster. We opened the delivery bag and the soup base is everywhere. And the box that held the saimin noodles, the extra mushrooms, and the chicken were drenched with soup base. The napkins were soaked and the chicken was soggy. Although we love using the app to pick up our order, the price difference isn't that much. And the Zippy's app allows us to use our zipster points towards our order. But with Uber Eats we can track the delivery from the time they leave and other stops along the way. So no more deliveries from Zippy's ;( read more

Zippy's McCully is 1 of 2 locations on S King, and recently I've been to both. I prefer this location because you have the option of dining in or just taking out which is nicer, versus the other location forces people to dine in due to the on-going renovations closing up half of the store. They have monthly specials which were pretty good. April had a plate lunch special featuring korean chicken and chili that was really good for under $15. Highly recommend visiting if you haven't tried it for yourself yet. You haven't been to Hawaii before if you haven't gone to Zippy's. read more

This was my first time ever trying Zippy's, and I seriously wish I had discovered it sooner! This location isn't in a busy tourist area like Waikiki, so we had no trouble getting a table, and there was plenty of parking available. The service was a bit slow at first, we waited at the door for almost 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Once our server arrived, she was super sweet and attentive. The menu has plenty of Hawaiian classics, like loco moco, but we decided to try something a bit more hearty. We ordered the Chicken Trio to share, and it was definitely a hefty portion. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy, and the Korean fried chicken had a sweet glaze that I actually loved, even though I'm not usually a fan of sweet flavors. The fried chicken really stole the show. Crispy, juicy, and with the perfect breading. I was craving it for days after we left! It also comes with a mac salad and two scoops of rice. Zippy's has always been a place I just go to eat. I've grown up eating here for over 40 years, so it's hard for me to write a low review. The staff at this location are friendly, and I truly love Zippy's as a whole. All the other locations I've been to are perfectly fine. That said, when it comes to food quality, this particular location has gone downhill, especially since COVID. I know people will say the quality should be the same everywhere because all locations follow the same recipes, but that hasn't been my experience. I honestly believe it comes down to the head cook or the consistency of the kitchen staff at this location. I've given this place plenty of chances. I've been here five times over the past two years before deciding to write this review, hoping it would improve, but unfortunately it hasn't. I'm a fan of certain chain restaurants and this is one I am now a fan of. The guy at the register was a super nice character. People walked in and spoke with him like he was a close family member or friend. I wish I caught his name. We unfortunately only tried Zippys on our last day on the way to the airport. When in today, 8/24/26, for dinner and the waitress refused to serve us because of our party size. Everyone in our party was okay with waiting because we had 14 people. We were trying to be understanding with the waitress but she did not allow us to dine in, while also allowing a party of 8 to come in to dine as she kicked us out. I must say that the Zippy's app has made ordering from Zippy's so convenient. On my most recent visit, I went to the McCully location to pick up lunch. I was in the mood for chili and had been wanting to try the Chili Moco for some time. It's like a Loco Moco, but with chili instead of gravy. The app makes it so easy to customize your order. I got brown rice with mac salad, sunny side up egg and as always for me the chili with no beans. I LOVE that Zippy's has that option because I really don't like beans. I like that there's a mini and regular option to choose from for the Chili Moco as the mini is just the right amount for me. The newer feature that Zippy's offers is lockers to hold your food until you arrive. You receive text updates as your order is being prepared. I received one to confirm my order and provided an estimated time that it could be picked up. I then got another text to let me know my order would be ready a little earlier. The last text I got was to confirm that my order was ready and waiting in a locker. Upon arrival to Zippy's, I just texted 'OPEN' to the message I had received and the locker opened for me to retrieve my order. I like this option to just pick up and go so you don't need to interact with anyone. My usual experiences at Zippy's are having to wait for an employee just to pick up my to go order. The only part they got wrong was that they didn't give me utensils, which I clicked on as an option that I wanted. I even double checked my order in the email confirmation I received. Luckily, I took my food to a place that had utensils I could use so it wasn't that big of a problem. This location is great to pick up quickly and leave because there usually tends to be sketchy people hanging out in the parking lot. On this particular visit, there was a man and woman sitting in front of the take out part of the restaurant. I believe they were even smoking weed. That made me feel a bit uncomfortable going in and wished they had better security to chase away people like that from hanging out in the area. read more

Haven't been to this location in decades. My bad. Should always try to go to this Zippy's because they have the best counter help. His name is Brandon and he is a very good employee. We were in line and another cashier said her line was open. I was about to go into her line when my friend said, 'That's okay we'll stay here." I gave a strange look and she said that this was Brandon's line and he's the best. She wasn't wrong. We liked to come to Zippy for the Hawaii style OX Tail Soup with rice before. The OX Tail Soup tastes different than before, a bit more sour I think. It's ok not great. Boy highly not recommend the Chicken Cutlets, not tender and too chewy, don't order! Perhaps it is left over fried chicken and re-purpose it to another dish?! The texture is more like those thin and not tender pork cutlets. The only thing that I like is the Macaroni Salad, I give 2 stars because of that. This location used to be my lazy "go-to" location, since I live right across the parking lot from it, and the food was predictable. A year or so ago, they raised their prices, the food seemed less appetizing, and the parking lot became a local hangout on weekend nights...so, I gave it a pass. Apparently, their refrigerator broke down a couple of weeks ago; so they decided to place a reefer rig in the parking lot, right in front of our building; it kicks on every 20-30 minutes, all day, everyday. had they placed it on the WMS side(in the drive-thru), it wouldn't have bothered anyone; but, they'd lose the revenue from the pick-up window, so according to someone else who complained, they decided that(on top of the usual screaming, music-blasting-goon-gas-smokers) it was better to keep 20 or so people awake all night, until their new fridge arrived from the mainland. Writing this quick review a couple of days late but wanted to emphasize something first. A couple of friends and I had just finished making our purchases at the Friends of the Library Booksale and decided to have a late breakfast at Zippy's next door to Washington Intermediate. When we arrived we saw that the parking lot was packed so we walked around back to the restaurant. There was a small lineup to be seated, but what was obvious was that there appeared to be only two servers for the entire restaurant!!! Not only that but both servers had injured legs!!! Despite their situation they bussed tables and had us seated fairly soon. Charmaine was our server (she had a plastic device on her leg) and she was so gracious and accommodating, despite her discomfort.
