Zippy's Waipahu A fun stop for classic Hawaiʻi comfort food! We tried the chili & rice, Portuguese bean soup, curry katsu, cheeseburger, and mochi donuts. The curry katsu and chili were our favorites, and the mochi donuts were a fun treat. The atmosphere is very casual, local, and no-frills--definitely more of a neighborhood spot than a destination restaurant. Service was a little rough. They forgot the cheese on the cheeseburger, and the staff seemed annoyed when we asked for the cheese and a few sauces. It was also right in the middle of the lunch rush, so we're giving them some grace. Good local experience, solid comfort food, casual atmosphere, but service could use a little aloha. read more

Second time Waipahu made my order incorrectly within a few months, with former having NO follow up from Zippy's after sent experience via Contact Us. This time I am showing how lazy cooks are, even after I asked if this is double garnish, counter asked cook, and cook yelled stating YES without even looking. Stopped in around 9pm for my family from out of state to try. It was really good-I had the chicken katsu curry plate and it was just as good as always. Service was very friendly and fast and it was relaxing inside with only a couple of other people in there at the time. read more

The food is good, especially if you're super hungry. We did the take out side in Ewa rather than tip for full service. The extra $6 saved can be used in the gas tank these days. The downside of takeout was no mashed potatoes are available and I couldn't order a side salad with my hamburger steak plate which I found odd. I made it clear I was willing to pay the $5.50 but she apologized and said sorry it's just not available. But nonetheless all 4 golfers were happy with their meals. Unacceptable service. I placed a phone order, and while the receipt was correct, I was given the wrong order. I had to drive back, wait 15 minutes before anyone helped me, then another 10 minutes for them to prepare the correct order. Zippy's offers comfort food at its best. It is a place for locals to come back to and always crave for whenever locals are away from the islands. The OG plate for me is the Fried Chicken and Chili. The chicken pieces and portion size may have gotten smaller but the taste and quality is still high rate. And yes live everything else, the prices also went up. Love the service by Aunties. Filled with all the plate lunch and comfort food that we all love is found at Zippy's their famous Chili (bean less for me) along with their fried chicken and saimin is what many come for but reason for those that do return my vary for me is a place that it provides that and so much more. Dine in service for those that just want to relax and enjoy the comfy booths but for me the fast food counter for a quick pick up and to just chill at my own pace. Today is the spaghetti plate that's $12.99 which has insanely has gotten much smaller and to call it regular looks what used to be the mini plate size. There was more sauce than pasta perhaps it's for the garlic bread to scoop up for those that are hungry but the plate itself was enough for me. I came to Zippys because folks had recommended it however sadly I wished I had saved my money and ZIPPED past Zippys. I ordered the Korean fried chicken and I expected crispy, hot chicken. Instead I got chunks of what looked like day old soggy chicken that lacked flavor. It came with rice that was bland and mac salad, which I could only eat one bite of as it was full of onions. Also got rice & chili - it was more rice than chili and was extremely dry. I also got a brownie however it was dry and tasted like it had been sitting up there for a few days. The lilikoi I received was light and tasted like water to which I had to go back and ask the guy to please taste the lilikoi and give me his feedback to which he said "taste like it's watered down" although he said he just changed the syrup. He was kind enough to fix it however at this point I was just frustrated as if I had gone through the drive thru I would have been stuck with this. Even after fixing it, I can say I've had better. I don't normally like to say negative things about an establishment but the service at Waipahu Zippys restaurant is really bad. It needs to improve or your customers are going elsewhere. The restaurant is almost empty and you are required to sign in and wait until the server is good and ready to sit you. The attitude from them is like if you leave the leave it's easier for us. One server made a comment like you have to wait I'm by myself. The Waipahu Zippys. In the past use to have friendly servers and very attentive never made you wait when tables are available. I think their manager before was Sterna she was on top of it and knew customer service was very important to business. I never see the manager walking around to check and we visit Zippys often. If it's personnel shortage then you need to hire and not skimp and make your service suffer. I have heard that other Zippys location is the same. read more

The free parking is all along the perimeter of the restaurant. Inside, the clean, bright environment seems like it was renovated because it had a modern portal that keeps phone orders warm. The layout was straightforward: dining-in on the left, takeout counter on the right, and bakery in-between the two. I got one of the Specials of the Day: Furikake Miso Salmon Salad. The warm salmon was delicious with a slightly crisp, flavorful outer layer on the moist, tender fish filet. The salad was made from fresh tomatoes, greens, and cucumber slices! Ordered an online order, a very convenient and fast process! Got the zip pac, beef stew, and meat loaf with the gravy separate. Everything was amazing except for the gravy. Food was 10/10; the staff though missed the point of being in customer service. Just smile, and say "thanks for coming". This local favorite was pretty busy for a Wed morning! All curbside pick up stalls were full so I decided to walk in for my order. I was at the counter behind another female waiting to be assisted. The female in front of me was done so I thought I would be helped right away. I was wrong. They must have been busy... I waited patiently for about 2 min. The associate at the Bakery had to tell the cashier that I was waiting and needed to be helped. She clearly saw me earlier but maybe she was occupied with other orders. She then helped me and gave me my order. I asked her to order some pastries but she told that I needed to go to the Bakery which was o her right. The lady at the Bakery was very nice and friendly. She helped me with my pastry order and was so kind! They have an array of baked goods which makes it hard to choose at times. Today, I ordered a box of fried chicken, a napple apple, a chocolate center donut, and glazed mochizadas. The chicken was nice and crispy as usual and very tasty. The napple apple was delicious and flaky (a local favorite). My favorite is the blueberry napple but the napple apple is good as well. The chocolate center donut was also yummy. It was soft with a good amount of chocolate and their mochizada is a malasada and mochi mixed together. The consistency is a really good and a little chewy. Worth the try! 10/21/23 Saturday...it's about 10pm and we were hungry after watching high school band competition. As they say "first stop zippys" . We dined in. We had an awesome server. So friendly and attentive.
