We talk story, woman comes and gives me a menu, asks if I want coffee. I get the coffee and place my order. Smokemeat fried rice omelette and short stack banana pancakes. Everyone on the counter, except me, is addressed by their name (towards each other as well). One guy gets a honi as he leaves. Others are greeted by name as they enter. Brah! On my last visit over 15 years ago I was left very underwhelmed and slightly irritated with the lack of Service. Fast Forward to this past weekend, the Husband and I wanted a simple breakfast after the gym and Rocky's had popped into my head. Definitely a staple in the Waipahu community, this cozy coffee shop sits on Waipahu Depot Street right outside of the Waipahu Festival Market. The area can get ridiculously busy so if you can, park on the street instead of in the Lot. You will have a hard time getting in and out once the surrounding Businesses open. I'm assuming where you're sitting will determine the type of Service you get. We sat at the Counter, and while we were very entertained with watching them cook orders, we were a bit neglected by the Staff, while the parties at the regular tables were presented with friendlier and more patient Servers. We waited over 15mins to get our order taken and since I guess they thought we were regulars they kept rushing to take our orders while we weren't given Menu's. We pulled the Menu up on Yelp lol. Food was standard. I really loved the fried rice! but the Hash was passable, it was too mushy for my liking. Also, our order of pancakes came 20mins after we finished eating, I wish i were kidding, We kept trying to flag down Aunty to cancel but she was very frazzled cooking, taking orders, and filling orders so we just waited. At the end we spent $60 including tip and left with a Hoo-Hum experience. Although I know for certain I just don't have the greatest of luck with this place, I am so happy they are still around and very much thriving! Rocky's is still the Heart of Old Waipahu!! Oh man... so good!! I always miss Rocky's Coffee Shop. Every time I come back, it's like stepping right into my Hanabada Dayz - riding bike around Waipahu, stopping by Big Way or the bike shop for fishing gear, and seeing Rocky's packed with locals from the neighborhood. There's just something comforting about that kind of nostalgia. The old school photos of Waipahu on the walls really take you back in time the moment you walk thru the doors. The food? Me and my gf went here for the first time on March 27th, 2026. Our food was absolutely perfect, I got the loco moco with 3 eggs on a bed of fried rice. It was excellent, 10/10. I canNOT stress enough the importance of places like this enough! Places like Rocky's Coffee Shop are a real life look in to the history of Hawaii as told by food. You walk in and there's a quaint dining room that probably seats 25 or so. The main centerpiece of the interior, set off to stage left of the shot is the 10 foot hot, flat grill! The smells that are coming from there can't be summed up in words. Sure, I can tell you what the meats they were but it's more about the feelings they conjured up. Rows of bacon, squished under a cast iron press. Hash browns sizzling to the perfect crisp. Fluffy eggs forming their shape. All the auntys there are so nice. You can tell they've been working there for years. They know the menu by heart. Service the way it used to be done! All the people eating there have the same spots that they always assume when they come. And if you stay long enough, or come at the right time, you watch the crowds change. The early crowd features the kupunas. They read their papers. Listen to the radio. Talk about bus schedules. The later crowd has the younger generations. Adults with baby faces and babies. The generation that had grown up eating here. Prices aren't the best, but it takes a lot to keep a place like this open. So PLEASE... come and eat. I recently came for breakfast before work with some of my coworkers. Rocky's is an old school local diner that serves breakfast and lunch. I think during peak times, it gets busy, but at 6:45 on a weekday, there was no wait. There's not much to speak of inside. They have several booths and counter seating. It's kinda old and grimy, but I guess that's part of the charm. I ordered a corned beef hash with rice and over easy eggs. It was simple and perfect. It came with a drink choice and I got hot chocolate lol. I think next time I want to try the fried rice. The waitresses are nice and check on customers often. So me and my friend went here because he hasn't been in a long time. The wait wasn't that long I think we wanted less the 5 minutes. We had a very nice waitress. The inside is very cool they have all these old pictures Waipahu with dates on them which I thought was very interesting especially to see how everything was back in the day. Located on the busy Waipahu Depot Road, there's free street parking and a free parking lot in front of the popular Waipahu Festival Marketplace. Be careful not to park in reserved stalls for the neighboring building. I walked into the cozy, old-school diner, looked for a worker, and signaled to her that I just needed one seat. She motioned to me to have a seat at the counter... perfect! I was fascinated by the cook at the grill. He was awesome! I watched his skills - cracking eggs open, delicately turning the Vienna sausage, making fried rice, creating banana pancakes, etc - and occasionally taking a sip of Pepsi or popping a bit of bread into his mouth! LOL! I also enjoyed his humming along to the music! I ordered Hamburger Steak plate with tossed salad (instead of macaroni salad). It came with two scoops of white rice... perfect! The three Hamburger patties were thin and tender without gristle! The aunties were friendly and chatted with regular customers. Several of them - and the cook - checked on me. Been coming here since I was a kid, after late night family fishing trips, early morning swapmeet runs. It's nostalgia hidden in a family owned and runned coffee shop. Rocky's never change please. Honestly a hidden gem. Growing up my family did groceries at Waipahu festival marketplace but we never bothered to eat here. My husband found it on a whim and we decided to go here. Parking especially on the weekends when the market is open can be tough. Congestion is real there. But we found parking and we sat at the counter immediately. I'm 69 years old now and still able to drive myself to my favorite breakfast restaurant, where "everyone knows my name"... There are some laces where you step through the front door and know the food is gonna be good. Rocky's is one of those places. My family and I were in the area looking for a breakfast place. TGFY (thank goodness for Yelp) we found Rocky's. We got super lucky and scored a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. Prior to heading over, we called in our order. We got a banana "short stack", Rocky's omelet with fried rice, and a fried rice omelet (side hash brown). The "short stack" was not a short stack. The bugga was HUGE! I didn't think my 3 y/o could finish it...but I also didn't think it'd also be enough to also fill up my husband I too! It was so worth it! Im not gonna lie..they're my new favorite pancakes. I wish I could have them tomorrow for breakfast! The omelet fried rice is just as it sounds. It was also very tasty and good portion size. The reason I knew the food was going to be good as soon as I walked through the door was because of that homey vibe it gave off. The food tasted like something my grandma would make. With the great tasting food and great prices Rocky's is hard to beat. Especially with the friendly staff, I'll be sure to visit again. Worst customer service. My wife and I moved into the area and Rockys was highly recommended. Small group of people waiting to be seated was outside. A server came out and addressed this group and totally ignored us. We went inside to check out the menu. Again no greeting from the 5 staff working. Sign state to sign in for a table bit no sign in sheet. Finally, caught a servers attention and the sign in sheet was on the wall. No were near the sign telling you to sign in. We decided to get take out so I moved over to the register because we still had not been approached but anyone working. At the counter was a server. As I stood there she keep her head down and made no sound. She didn't even look up to acknowledge my presence. Then she looked away and then darted off. Another walk into the same area and still no recognition that we were there. I don't understand why this establishment treats potential customers with so much contempt. I can see the have a good loyal return customer base. I hope it is enough to keep them going in the future.
