    17. Braised Short Ribs Benny with fried rice
    Jessica P.

Phenomenal. Best Benny I've ever had!! The braised beef is so tender, it falls apart and melts in your mouth. 10000000/10 Service is great, it's small inside with limited seating but we had no trouble going at 8:15ish.

Let me tell you... this place has never disappointed! We have been going to Button up Cafe for about 7 years and I can say that I have never had a bad experience. Food is always amazing and fresh. The customer service is top notch and now that they have renovated everything is soooo spacious! It still gives that homey feel which I love! I cannot recommend this place enough... if you are in Oahu it is a MUST TRY!!!

I wanted to try the Button Up Cafe in Pearl City because of all the great reviews it was getting. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint when it came to their food and portion sizes. My mom had the hamburger steak and I had the poutine braised short rib French fries because the Braised short ribs wasn't available. When our food came out it was huge amazing portions. Honestly we both couldn't finish our plates. The food was amazing, the portions were large and the service was good. There was one thing that I didn't care for and it was when we walked in, we were handed menus and told to order (fast food restaurant style), after ordering we were directed to take a table. Because we had never been there before I felt a little rushed when reading the menu and felt like I had to order right away as there were people staring to trickle in behind us. Note to self, read the menu before going there so you know what to order, also have a back up choice in case they don't have what you want. For a fast food restaurant this place is great.

Finally able to try this place (sometimes hard to find parking or line appears too long)! But what i learned was that they are fairly fast, so take out is worth it too, if youre able to find parking. Simple process to dine in-- name on list, wait outside. She'll call you when table is ready. Decide your order while you wait. She'll give you menus when your table is ready but you order and pay at the front register. That's nice so you leave whenever youre done eating. I was very impressed with how patient she was with everyone. She remained calm, cool, and provided terrific service to all. Menu is fairly small but definitely get a French toast. Majority chose all the fruits and whip cream (so fully loaded), even though that added over $7. The stuffed one looked good too but more people ordered the fruit ones. We got the banana one and it was so good, didnt even need syrup. Corn beef is the real meat one with string potatos, not canned version with potato cubes. Bummed they ran out of meat jun. Portion size looked like a heaping mound! Next time.

Valentine's take out order. placed an online order via seamless app. within 15 the order was ready just as i pulled up to pick it up. parking lot and restraunt was already full. my daughter hopped out, grabbed the goods and drove, ready to grind in the comfort of home. the korean short ribs were tasty and soft... fall apart with plastic fork kine tender. dem tots were still crunchy and ono. bits of fresh corned beef was ono too.

Driving to Haleiwa, we were looking for a breakfast spot & found this tiny place. Waited about 10 min to get seated. Oh boy! You better wait or you'll miss some delicious food Hubby and I enjoyed our food so much! He added dessert also delicious! We were stuffed! Support local spots Cute ambiance, self serve coffee ALOHA

My husband and I tried this place for the first time back in December 2025 and we shared the short rib Benedict. Thank god we shared it because it was the perfect portion to start our day. The short rib was so moist and tender. We also got it with fried rice and that definitely enhanced the flavor and taste of our meal. The wait was about 20 mins. There's limited seating inside but it was definitely worth the wait. I am definitely putting this spot on my list of places to visit when we come back. The staff were really nice and service was great! It's easy to find but parking can be limited.

Food was good but not anything crazy. The portions are huge and the wait wasn't too long either!

There was a line of people waiting before they opened, which is always a good sign. There was a mixed demographic of customers which is another great sign! You're handed a menu to look over after you're seated. You go to the counter to order. Water and coffee are self serve. The food was prepared rather quickly and it was such huge and delicious portions! There are only like 6 tables so you'll probably have to wait if you come at a busy time, but I promise you, it's worth it!

Super small restaurant offering big flavors! They do a lot of to go orders, I don't think I saw them not packing up someone orders to go the whole time we were there. The French toast was huge, we saw another party order the stuffed French toast and were amazed at the size! It was HUGE! The Koraon short rib melted in my mouth, first time I had eggs benny like that. The eggs were perfectly poached., I was only wishing for more hollandaise sauce, it was kinda lacking I. The amount. Really it was hard to find the sauce or the flavor in my bites. The reg 2 stack French toast with strawberries and banana was enough to share due to the sheer size of the sweet toast! Yummy!!! Husband stated he thought their fresh made corner hash was really good, and he loved the fried rice!

I was excited to try here, wanted to try since they opened but never been here till now. Small hole in the wall with maybe 9 tables. Service was pleasant, the cashier was sweet. The corned beef in the Benny had good flavor, wished it was made more like a patty. Corned beef hash seemed like it was just tossed with potatoes. The French toast was ok not as sweet as I expected which was good. The fried rice was undercooked. Overall the food was mediocre.

    Riese L.

Cute little hole in the wall with tons of free parking. There's only like 6 tables or so. Make sure to have your whole party with you or else they won't seat you. The girl at the counter was sweet. The homemade corned beef was yummy. We ordered the corned beef Benny with potato hash but it was just cubed potatoes and it was a LOT. The stuffed French toast was suuuuper sweet just as you'd expect. The classic breakfast was just that. Classic.

Some friends told me about this place and even showed me the photos but I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go. However, my Sunday morning plans changed and Janey and I trekked out to Pearl City to find this gem...hidden gem is more like it. It is located in a small commercial center on Nimitz. If you don't know where you're going, you will miss it, however, look for the people waiting. There's plenty of parking which is great! The inside is small and cozy but they do a great job. It's also not a place to sit and talk story. Eat, talk a little while eating, and then leave cause people are waiting. We decided to share the Korean short rib benny and the ube stuffed cheesecake french toast. I also had a small side of the homemade corned beef hash. That benny was soooooo good! Tender short rib with delicious hollandaise sauce, and we upgraded to the delicious fried rice. The french toast was delicious! Janey said she'd only take a small slice, but then kept eating at it...LOL! We loved the corned beef! The staff is soooo friendly! It is a well oiled machine! Lots of families coming in. Locals and maybe a few tourists. Definitely worth coming out to. Looking forward to coming back! Mahalo Button Up!

Everything looked appealing and appetizing to the eye, but we were met with disappointment on multiple dishes. With Da Bite, you get a flight of three smaller portions of entrees: 1) the waygu loco moco meat was overcooked and the gravy was just salty; 2) crab benedict was more breading than crab so once you bit in, it was quite mealy underneath the initial crunch. The lack of crab could easily go unnoticed when smothered in sauce. 3) Ube pancakes with ube marscapone... the marscapone was delicious, but the pancakes lacked fluff and moisture. The kids pancakes also had the similar spongey dry texture and my nephew chose to only eat half the portion. We also had the Longsilog, which is a sweet sausage, but it was overly sweet for my taste. All in all, the food was just all right for the hype. Maybe we would've enjoyed it better if we hadn't already experienced better versions of similar menu items that set the bar earlier on the trip.

My personal favorite was the honey butter chicken and waffles. That chicken was so well marinated and fried to perfection. I saw a news story on the wall that the owner had worked at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles. We've been to Roscoe's and this place's chicken was much better. The skin was perfectly crisp and the honey butter sauce was only slightly sweet which added a bit of flavor but did not overwhelm you with sweetness. My kids ate up the chicken meat and I was happy to enjoy the crisp chicken skin by itself. My wife also really enjoyed the waffles and found them to be quite flavorful, again preferring them over what you would get at Roscoe's. The gravy on the loco moco was fantastic and perfectly paired with the rice. My son ordered the churro waffles and was happy with his selection. For me, though, I dream of that crisp chicken skin. But our second time was a mellow Wednesday for lunch and while the timing was better (still not synced), the food was either meh or completely shameful. Yes, shameful! Wife got the Caesar salad with char siu chicken katsu. The chicken was ono but the salad was lazy. Basic greens with a low-quality bottled sauce squeezed on top. No wonder it came out five minutes before mine. I got the fish tacos with tots (extra $2), and this dish was the most egregious rip off I've ever seen in a restaurant. No wonder the server dropped it and ran. For $18, I got three street taco-sized flour tortillas, goopy mayo-laden "slaw", and pico with a teeny tiny piece of fish on top. See the pics! Smaller than my thumb. Barely two tater tots in size. And because it was plopped into mayo slaw, it was soggy on arrival. The fish was also suspiciously fishy tasting. I debated eating it. I ended up making one taco with all the fish and a potato taco with some tots before finally giving up. I know things are tough for restaurants right now. But this was ridiculous. I paid and left and called it a lesson learned. I'll likely stick to the Pucks Alley location from now on. Still some pride in what they serve there.

I would say that Forty Niner is a great place to get the bang for your buck in terms of pricing for their food, but I will say that the quality of the food isn't as great as it's presented on their ordering site, Beluga. Today, my husband and I chose to do takeout and ordered three things: The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, Chorizo Hash, and the Molokai Loco Moco. For the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, the lemon taste was pretty concentrated in the middle of the pancake/not well distributed and we couldn't really taste the ricotta flavor, but it was pleasantly sweet (not too sweet). For the Chorizo Hash, I was a little bit sad that it wasn't very flavorful and the Chorizo wasn't well cooked. The Molokai Loco Moco's flavor receives the same review as the Chorizo Hash; although it was special/the first time we'd had Loco Moco like that, it was pretty soggy/watery and lacked flavor. (There were a LOT of people waiting!) Lady calling out names as tables were ready really seemed to enjoy her job. Her intonation was pleasant to listen to, and she was easy to understand, nice and loud. Names were being called out at a good pace so tables were clearing quickly. Guess the breakfast/brunch folks were all leaving around that time. Just under 20 minutes my name was called and as soon as we entered the door from waiting on a bench outside there was a hostess ready to seat us. After seating us she asked about drinks and very quickly brought hubby's Dr. Pepper and my Coke Zero (no ice). Mine had a lemon in it, which turns out to be the signal it's a Coke Zero. Added nice flavor, too. She said our server would be right with us, and we had just enough time to scan the menu then our server Alicia came to our table. We ordered immediately and our food came in record time. Hubby's pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon, no butter had tall fluffy pancakes, and no butter. (Some places forget, but not here.) My Salmon Benedict came with eggs poached perfectly, yolks runny, as it should be. I ordered my hash browns "crispy" and they were perfectly crisp on both sides. (Not every place crisps hash browns on both sides...) Alicia came at just the right time to check on us and ask if I wanted my soda refilled. She looked at it and asked if it was a Coke Zero, so the lemon must be the signal. She was very busy (it was bustling inside) but managed to stop by at all the right times. Friendly but no chit chat since it was super busy, very efficient, which was perfect for us. She came by just when we were done and asked if I needed a box for my food, and we asked if we could order a slice of pie to go. Hubby wanted the fresh strawberry pie which is in season. She suggested the strawberry tart, which suited him just fine. I asked if they still had fresh peach pie and she again suggested the tart. Alicia brought our 2 tarts in a paper bag and said she included forks and napkins. She had given me a paper bag for my Benedict but I wanted to help the environment and we were trying to fit it with the tarts. She was eagle eyed and called out to us that she would bring another bag. We explained we just wanted to not waste a bag and showed her the unopened one she had brought with my box. She was amazing. Looking forward to the next time we visit. Hope we get her as our server again. Got home and while the tarts are for dessert tonight, I wanted to enjoy the freshness of the tart crust so I snuck a piece. The crust was so good! And the fresh peaches were great, too. Always better than canned. The yards are really almost like a slice and a half of pie and and neater than taking home a slice, so it's a good deal. Pies are expensive because making pie crusts takes time, so getting extra crust in a tart is great. Hope our next visit goes as well as today's. Thinking of getting the chicken pot pie next time!

I was told that the macadamia nut cream pie was only made on the weekends. Ok, I asked if I can still be it by the slice on the weekend and she told me that it is only sold whole. That was a big disappointment because that was my favorite pie there but did not want to get a whole pie. They did have the banana cream and I was able to get by the slice. I ended up getting a slice of custard pie for my 2nd choice. The gal did show me the sign by the register of what pies are available for slice for that day, which wasn't a lot. Both pies tasted ok, nothing special. The banana cream had a few slices of real banana, which was nice. The pie crust was on the thick side and tasted pretty dry. It wasn't the best banana cream pie I've had .The custard pie was meh, didn't have a real good custardy taste and the crust was the same as the banana cream. Overall, the customer service was good and I probably will go elsewhere for pies.

Came here for breakfast, and the wait actually wasn't too bad for a weekend, although they…read moredefinitely get busy. I've been here multiple times, and honestly, the service was usually just okay. But this time, our waiter was super friendly and attentive, which really made a difference in the overall experience. The restaurant is pretty spacious, but it can get loud when it's busy. I ordered the mushroom omelette, which was good, but let's be real--I mainly come here for the toast and that red jelly. That combo is always my favorite!

Great food and great service, what more can I say about Lilia Bakery? They opened here years ago, I…read morejust wish they would open more location and not just in town (but it makes sense, they go where the tourists are, I'm just glad they opened here in pearl city). The restaurant is nice and clean but heads up they don't have restrooms. They said you actually have to leave and use the food courts next door. Anyways, their food is always excellent. I decided to treat myself to their pork belly breakfast, omg it was so delicious. Though it is a bit pricey, sometimes it's good to treat yourself. Their rolls are excellent as usual, my only complaint their coffee cups are so small. If you're gonna give small cups, please leave the pitcher lol. Now for their bakery, they are known for their coco puffs but they have so much more! Cream puffs, cupcakes, etc. though they are also kind of expensive, i still walked out with a non shameful amount lol.
