My wife was "lucky" enough to grow up in Kennewick, a town in eastern Washington state I had never even heard of previously. From the very first time I flew into the Tri-cities airport, the very first stop we make, every single time, is Zips. Reminiscent of the DQ in my hometown, Zips has the aura of a pretty lady, perhaps forgotten, perhaps fallen by the wayside, the area around her rather than being gentrified over the years, becoming more and more industrial and while not completely forgotten, she's simply not affluent enough to keep up with the current fashions. I actually kind of like that about Zip's though. The place is tidy, if dated, & the food better than any chain of burger joints. This past trip I had the jalapeno burger and a pineapple shake, both were excellent. I bet at night the under 21 crowd would hang out here, making this a little like American Graffitti, but that's just my imagination running wild. If you're in Kennewick, do yourself a favor, and visit the original Zip's. read more

This place is great. The burgers are greasy and the cheese is melted and rolling off the burgers, lets not forget the bacon, its real and not paper thin. Don't be fooled this is the only Zips to get your burger fix. read more

Service at the Columbia Dr. Zip's has really taken a downfall. Drove up to the drive thru, the lights were on and the open sign out displayed as "open". Cars in front of me were being helped in the drive thru. Myself and the car in front of me had waited in the drove thru for 15 minutes as the employees from Zip's shut the lights off, not taking our order. They closed the restaurant without helping us, even though we were there before closing. As I left the drive thru, I saw employees leaving the restaurant, I asked them what's up, I was waiting for 15 minutes in the drive thru? I was told, "we close at a certain time, it doesn't matter". That is very irritating and extremely poor service. This type of service will lead to the closing of their doors, which is sad as this location is a landmark for the Tri Cities. read more

I've ate here many times and the food has alway been awesome but lately it keeps getting worse! My visit before my most recent I got fries that were old, dark brown, and hard. I have seen this place for years, but only recently stopped in. Tried the Big Buster Burger and loved it. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the place is old and run-down. The Tartar sauce is Amazing! The bacon is crispy and they are generous with it! The fries are crispy and crinkly! We went on a Sunday at lunchtime and the service was great and the restaurant was clean! Seriously if you are in Kennewick then this is the place for burgers! read more

The Papa Joe Burger with a Black Raspberry shake it the best. The fries are good, and the environment could use an upgrade. The good for being fast food is absolutely top notch great tasting. They are however on the small side with all their burgers being kid sized patties. For the price you pay for the good would like to see a little bit bigger so you don't have to get the ten dollar burger to get full. And beware they don't offer refills on Abby if the drinks other then water. read more

Zips in Spokane is better if that's what you are used to. No drink refills, fries were greasy and the burger had a weird taste to it. Not worth the 10 min drive out of the way. No fry sauce. Walked in to check out the menu since my group have never been and the young man seemed impatient as we decided what we wanted. We decided to order as two separate groups and upon being asked for a name for the first order my friend gave a silly name and the cashier got overly upset and demanded a real name without even letting out so much as a smile. When another person in the group asked if they could switch the sourdough bread on their French dip sandwich for any other type of bread or bun they could she was told it was impossible because they couldn't charge the difference in money. Not a single employee in the restaurant even flashed a half smile for the entirety of our visit. The food itself was subpar. I ordered a bacon burger and I was not impressed with any of it. I visited Zips on the way back from Spokane, I have never been to this establishment so me and my traveling companion stopped there on their praising request. I ordered The Double Bacon Cheeseburger meal. The fries where soggy with grease no salt on them the soda tasted like it has been sitting on the counter watered down with ice. The burger was the most underwhelming part of my meal, it was just to parties cheese and bacon that's it. Couldn't finish my meal, it all tasted strange. For over $10, every place I have ever gone its standard for a dbl bacon cheeseburger to have pickles, lettice, tomatoes, onions all the condiments & bacon of course. Avoid this travesty of a restuarant at all costs. Go to Burger King, for the same price I spent I would have gotten a burger 2 times bigger than my little sisters sized burger. read more

Was in the drive through tonight and noticed a note clear as day reading: it you job to clean up after your self, PS only children leave messes! When I asked an employee about it they said their boss wrote it. I told her that note in its self is childish. For a manager not to beable to talk to their employees properly is just poor management. The Kennewick Zip's on Columbia Drive is a Tri-Cities institution. I've been coming here since 1970 (as a very young child!), and a hometown burger joint just doesn't get any better than this. Where else can you get something called a "Salad Burger" or a "Papa Joe", and several variations on the hot dog - not at your local McDonald's! The ultimate (in my opinion) is the "Big Zipper" - too many patties and cheese slices to count - just bring your appetite! The crinkle-cut fries and old-fashioned shakes are delicious, and you won't find a better fish 'n chips anywhere. Decor is nothing fancy, but that's part of the charm. Nice to see a full parking lot at a business that's been around for 40+ years. And this is the place where "fry sauce" began - 'nuff said! read more

This place is my fav fast food in Tricities. Only this zips location though. I don't like any other zips. Food is consistently good and fresh. Best fry/tarter combination in the country! For my healths sake I come here about 3 times a month. Otherwise I'd be here twice a week! I can see why some people wouldn't like it though. Papa Joe is still just as good, same with the shakes. Was disappointed by the onion rings. Bits of onion mixed into a batter then pressed out into the shape . a ring. The worst part is the fries, didn't really like them at all, the hamburger were good, had alot of flavor but they are really small in size, you would probably have to order 2 burgers just to get full. Love going there for the food but the service isn't very good. I walked in there with a friend getting dinner a week ago and ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries and was greeted rudely at the register by an older lady who had an impatient and annoyed tone. As me and my friend sat down to wait a family came in and the tone of the lady magically changed. I am not sure why we were treated different when we did nothing but order food and thanked her. The rest of the meal the staff gave us dirty looks till we left even though we talked politely and made no trouble. This isn't the only time the employees have been rude I've come in through the drive through and was asked "what do you need?" by an annoyed voice. New to the area and first visit to Zips. Went based on reviews and was not disappointed. Used the drive thru and the young lady who waited on us could not have been better. Didn't have to repeat my order THREE times, very courteous, timely, a pleasant experience. Ordered their Fish & Chips. Best ever. The fish did not have 3 inches of batter on them and were cooked perfectly. Can't wait to visit again and maybe next time we will try their burgers. Bob's Burgers and Brew could take a lesson from these folks, especially on quality and service. read more

One of the best burgers in town. Don't let the appearance fool you they make a good old fashion burger. I ordered the Belly Buster w/ small fry and the burger came out with big bacon and ham hanging out of it and dripping with the sauce they put on it. Fries were cooked just right and the woman at the counter greets you like she really enjoys what she is doing. I've been there twice and will definitely go back! read more
