Had a clutch go out that they said they replaced and charged me $400 for. As I drove it away from garage, I noticed first gear wouldn't work. When I took it back, they said that the transmission was gone. So they had tested it before I picked up the first time, and thought it was ok to drive, charged me, then told me they couldn't fix it upon return because they don't do that. They knew there was a more expensive repair necessary that would make the smaller repair pointless, and did the smaller repair anyway. The major repair wound up being more than the car is worth, and I've been without a car all year. Very shady dealings with the owner Craig. I'll never be back. read more

I had a very unusual problem that Craig and his contacts diagnosed. (Door locks) Craig ordered the part but told me I'd have to drop my car off which is not possible for me. I went in on a Saturday morning and waited. There are some nice restaurants and Shem Creek within walking distance. My car was ready in about 2 hours which wasn't so bad. I felt the service was good and price reasonable. Overall not a bad experience. I'd go there again. read more

My daughter goes to CofC. Last year, someone recommended Zip's for work that had to be done to a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She dealt w/Craig and things went smoothly. This year, the same Jeep wouldn't start when we were attempting to move her to another apartment. I had to have it towed. I told Craig that we hoped to drive it home the next day. He promised to look at it as soon as he could. Not only did he do that but he found that for some reason the Jeep wouldn't start b/c it didn't recognize the key. They cleared the code and the Jeep started right up. Craig wouldn't take any money. Gotta give a BIG shout out to Craig and his team at Zips. Took my daughter's car in with an A/C problem fearing the worst. They found the issue and remedied the immediate problem for $40 bucks. They also suggested a fix that might eliminate a future problem and left that decision up to us. A great outcome in my opinion. If I'd have taken it to the dealer my guess it would have taken longer and cost a whole lot more, If you've got a problem with your car, do yourself a favor and call them. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN AVOID ZIPS! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! I work next door to zips and my car battery died 6 months ago while I was at work so I walked over and asked them to replace it. They sold me the "best battery" saying it would last for years and charged me top dollar for it along with a warrentee. Fast forward 6 months to last Friday night I was left stranded on Sullivan's Island for 3 hrs waiting for a tow truck because my brand new, best of the best, car battery was dead. It was towed to AAA car care center where I was informed that it was the cheapest battery you can buy. I took it back to zips and simply left it on the counter as I do not even want my money back they are so disappointing. I despise companies that take advantage just because they feel like they can. Sad that this is what the world has come to ... literally ripping off your neighbor. read more

I was in Charleston from Cincinnati for my wife's surgery when I noticed a front end noise that I couldn't risk driving home with. I called Craig at Zip's explaining my concern. He was very professional giving me a fair labor estimate (plus parts) for what we thought was a wheel bearing to be completed the following day. My wife had complications and I was unable to bring the car as scheduled, he happily scheduled for the following morning, new years eve. I was very concerned the car would not be completed as promised and we would be forced to stay in the hotel until after the holiday. Here's how it went.....Craig had one of his mechanics drive me back to the hotel, saving a couple mile walk. He called a couples hours later to tell me my axle shaft would also need replaced soon. I was thinking, ok, here we go..... nope! He was only letting me know and not pressuring and also told me since the car was already apart no additional labor was needed. I was shocked, did I mention....I'm out of town, new years eve, and a recovering wife?? The bottom line is this guy was completely honest with me, the repair was completed quickly, he went out of his way dropping me off at and picking me up at hotel without me asking and at a very fair price! Wow! My wife and I were on vacation in the area when I realized I needed an oil change on my Prius. They were very helpful and quick. The price for the oil was really good for synthetic oil. I read some positive reviews online; decided to take my car here. Ended up having to take it here twice for two different reasons over the past 2 months. They did a good job. The quotes they gave were more than reasonable. For the first repair: My A/C broke last month; they quoted me $780 to replace my compressor and coil (or something like that). Initially, I agreed to the price (over the phone) and they started the repair. After 10 min; I changed my mind, thinking I should get a second opinion first. I called Craig and he had no problems with me doing that; even though they had already done 10 minutes of work into taking the A/C components out of the car. I received a quote from honda that was several thousand dollars (well over $3k) because they said they didn't see a point in replacing individual parts; said they would only replace my whole A/C/ system. I obviously chose Zip's Kar Kare; and they did a fine job; A/C works great. For second repair: my alternator broke; they replaced it for about $400; which was the most reasonable quote I had come across for such a repair. Finally, the owner is a pretty good guy too. He comes across as very honest. I trust him. read more

They were able to get the part delivered to their shop within 15 minutes and had me on my way shortly after that. I was recommended to go here from a friend and now I am excited that I have a trusted mechanic in Mount Pleasant that I can use. I first moved to Charleston back in 2006. I had no idea who to go to for any mechanical issues with my truck. A bar Parton of mined informed me about Zips. He said they were a hidden gem and very loyal to their customers. A few months down the road, my air conditioning stopped working. It was mid August. Unbearable to say the least. I forgot about Zips. I took my truck in to another shop and was quoted $1200.00 in repairs. I then got a second opinion and was quoted 500.00. I then remembered what my friend had said about Zips. After about 3 hrs of examining my truck, I was up and running with the coolest air and it only cost me $40.00!!!!!! It was a valve that needed replaced. Um. Hello..... Did you hear that?! I went from a $1200.00 quote to 500.00 to a 40.00 fix!! I knew in that moment that I would always use Zips as my mechanic. I even moved north for a cpl years and during a week visit, I took my car in for a few things. They were still so polite, and went above and beyond what was expected. Ive sent several friends their way, and they all bragged about the service. Just saying....... Support Local!! I'm moving back to Charleston next month and I already plan to take my car in.
