I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have found this facility, especially for my unique situation. I have an almost two-year-old Belgian Malinois named Athena. She's incredibly smart, loyal, and protective--but she also has a history of extreme aggression, which makes finding a safe, understanding, and well-equipped boarding facility a real challenge. I was going out of town for just under a week and had no friends or family available to watch her. Naturally, I was anxious and stressed about where she could stay, especially since I'd had bad experiences in the past with places that didn't understand how to work with dogs who have behavioral issues. After doing a ton of research and getting referrals from family and friends, I came across Cozy Noses, and I'm so glad I did. From the very first phone call, I was met with nothing but professionalism, kindness, and an honest willingness to help. I probably called them four or five times before even dropping Athena off--asking everything from what vaccinations were required to whether her specific needs could be accommodated--and every single time, the staff was patient and thorough. They never made me feel annoying or bothersome for calling so much. That alone gave me a great first impression. I let them know up front that Athena has had incidents of aggression in the past and that she should be marked as "do not touch" or "do not approach" for safety. The staff took this very seriously, and they handled it with so much professionalism and care. On the day of drop-off, the process was smoother than I could've imagined. The kennel was freshly cleaned and ready for her, and the environment felt calm, organized, and welcoming. While I was away, I called in regularly to check on her--and not once did I feel like I was being a burden. The staff was always ready to give me updates on how she was doing, what her temperament was like that day, and whether she was eating and resting well. They truly catered to her individual needs and made the entire experience stress-free for both of us. Knowing she was being looked after by such competent and compassionate people gave me complete peace of mind. By the time I picked Athena up, I could tell she had been well cared for. She was calm, clean, and seemed surprisingly at ease considering her usual behavior in new environments. I was absolutely blown away. This facility is clean, organized, and clearly run by people who genuinely love animals and understand their needs--especially those with more challenging temperaments. I truly believe Cozy Noses went above and beyond for us. I now have complete trust in them and wouldn't hesitate for a second to bring Athena back in the future. We liked how they post pictures and short videos of the dogs each day on their private Facebook page. That helped ease our minds about the well-being of our pet. The daily pricing, $65 per night, is quite reasonable. We felt that after boarding for 8 days, the $30 exit bath should have been complimentary, considering she came out with dirt around her eyes and gray dust and a foreign clipped hair on her still damp underside. Yuck, but easy to rectify. Additionally, when we picked her up, we didn't receive any feedback as to how she did during her stay. Then again, we did not ask because we were just anxious to be reunited with our dog. BUT....when the next family came in to retrieve their little pup, the person checking us out raved how THAT dog was one of her favorites and she gave him extra attention during feeding time. HELLO??? We are standing right there!!! What about our puppy? Was she left to feed on her own? Did she even eat all her food at meal times? She definitely lost weight during her stay. Other than those few hiccups, we were happy with our dog's stay at Hounds Town of Smithtown.

My original review for this business 7 years ago was middle of the road at 3-stars, because while they did keep my dogs alive for a week, they lacked even the most basic customer service skills and were frankly very rude and standoffish, which you can read about in my first review below. After posting my review, the male owner of the business, Smitty, verbally attacked me on Yelp, which he has now edited, and I changed my review to 2-stars (however, you can still get a general gist of what he said in my updated reply to him). Now after being stalked online and having a libelous review posted about my business, I think an update to 1-star is fair. Customer service really doesn't get any worse than what is provided by the owners and associates of Smitty's Kennels. They're not just bad business owners, they're unkind people. Reviews on alternate websites are available with a quick google search of their business name where you can see the owner, Smitty's, interactions with other unhappy customers, or as he and Sandy apparently like to call them publicly for all new customer prospects to see, "Chronic Complainers". It's really not that hard to provide decent customer service - the only main component is not being an asshole which both of these business owners are through and through. I prefers a streaming conversation on the phone when doing a transaction for the first time with someone. She refused to communicate on the phone while trying to plan trip. Would send generic emails directing me to website as though I was unemployed and had nothing better to do then browse all the pages of her website for information. Then we needed to cancel with 24 hours notice. Although she charged me for each visit separately during the whole week she kept 50 percent for all 20+ visits. On another occasion, I stopped in to get the lay of the land. In the back was owner and groomer, Alex, at work with a white poodle, grooming away. I made an appointment and brought my cat back the following week. His fees aren't exorbitant, but his patience is. During the grooming, we chatted. Alex said he's been at this location since 2004!!!! My cat, Hannah, fidgety during most of it, but basically tolerant, looked beautiful once done. What I love about Alex is that he allows you to stay with your animal during the groom.
