Tried their omelet with hash brown, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I really like their crispy hash brown. Waitstaff is very nice and service was quick. The parking situation is quite tricky here, as they have a small parking lot right behind the restaurant, that would only fit about 5-6 cars. I'm a sucker for diners (or dinors as it may be), and I enjoyed my meal at the Zodiac. They had a decent sized menu with a lot of selections, plus an additional 6-8 chalked up on the back wall as specials. I'm actually not a huge breakfast eater, so I went with my standard 2 eggs, toast, and breakfast potatoes. I thought the bread was nice and fresh (though not exactly toasty), and the potatoes were for sure fresh cut, which was a really nice touch. I also had a garden salad, which was a pretty standard diner salad - romaine, some tomatoes, shredded cheese, and olives as a surprise addition. Decent size and price. I ate here for breakfast while visiting Erie. We opened the place right at 8:00 AM on a Saturday. We had a 9:00 AM appointment so it was important to get served fairly quickly. It was a group of 4. When we cam into the restaurant, the staff was so nice and friendly. They even opened a couple of minutes early because we are waiting. The coffee was very good, and served in big mugs. The staff was VERY attentive and checked on us a couple of time. I had a veggie omelette and a side of sausage. The omelette was exactly what I like. They pre fried the vegetable and the omelette was adequately filled. It was very good. The sausage was breakfast links, and they were good as well. We did finish in time to get to our 9:00 AM appointment. The bottom line is this was a fantastic small, kind of quirky breakfast location. The staff really made it something special though. I'm having such a hard time with this review. The service we received here wasn't just bad; it was unfriendly. You can have a chipper wait staff, but still be terrible. This place takes the cake on terrible. I was a waitress/bartender for years and I get that we all have bad days, but this was whack. First of all, when we walked in the "owner" stared at us with disgust. No words no "good morning", just a disgusted stare. He yelled to the ONLY SERVER IN THE WHOLE BUILDING on a Sunday morning?? Wtf?! ... that 5 ppl were standing up front. They must be clones because she also gave a blank disgusted stare and walked away with menus.. no good morning.. no follow me.. nothing. We eventually followed her. I was already ready to leave this dump. It was dirty and the cooks had no uniform or gloves. Tank top and shorts ?! Again, wtf. I was with my in-laws and tried to suck it up... Waitress had the personality of a wet noodle. Dropped off waters, spilled my coffee, didn't apologize or say anything for that matter and walked away?! Again wtf. It was almost comical at this point. Took 30 min to be able to order. People who came in after us got served and were eating before they even took our order!? I want to point out there was nothing out of the ordinary about our party. 5 adult, middle class, quiet and respectful people... made no sense... Once we finally ordered because we tracked down someone TWICE, it took 40 min to get the food. The only reason they even get one Star is because the food was big portioned and actually delicious. We were in the middle of a road trip from Buffalo to Cleveland and decided to find a place to eat. My wife chose this place saying "right off the highway". Well approximately 6 miles later we arrived. Well all I have to say is, this place will be right off the highway no matter how far. Zodiac has the fun, quirky ambiance, but literally everything else about it is "just fine". The food included. My breakfast bowl was fine but also kind of uninspired. Someone in our group got "The Southern Cross" breakfast and said it was good, but she was put off, as were I and several other by how the "Cajun spice" (it honestly looked like Old Bay) seemed half-heartedly dumped in massive quantity the center of the eggs on top of the dish. Spicy can be good, but that is overkill! She could barely eat the middle part of her dish. Also, two others got the sausage gravy and biscuits, which were good but that's hard to mess up. Though one did mention after the fact that the gravy had tasted "off, like they added something to it." Third, someone in our party, who has dietary restrictions, ordered a meatballs and spinach omelette. To comment immediately--we all agreed, including this person, that they could have asked how the meatballs come-- but she had to send hers back because it had a thick cheese sauce drizzled on top of the spinach--and the meatballs were a glorified store-bought sauce it seemed--that had not been specified. She said to all of us "I can't eat this". We sent it back, the main hostess was was okay with it saying "that's fine", which was a bit dismissive and rude to be frank, but our group let it go as the place had been fun. But then, our main server came back with my friend's new omelette a few minutes later and said "well you should have clarified that with me" in a very rude tone. Again, yes we could have but you don't openly shame a customer like that for an honest request after not clarifying the order, opting instead to give them a "ummm, okay....." look. This is the same waiter whojust sat down at the head of our table--like he was going to give his children a stern talking to--without so much as an introduction (the same person ordered the Southern Cross reacted "oh! you're ready for us, ok...." when he pointed to her) to take our order. Do you do that to every patron? Cause that's kind of rude to just post up into a group unannounced. I don't know if the server was having a rough day or what, but at least tell us your name. Terrible service. I would also be remiss if i was commenting that they had one of the bulbs for the "emergency exit" lights shining right on our table, almost exactly where I was sitting. Moving wouldn't have helped as then it'd have been right in my periphery. It was very distracting. There was just a weird vibe the entire time. They didn't seem to like our group of 10, which surprised me as better service would have netted them a very good tip from all of us. I AM A MOM & POP DINER FIEND WHEREVER I GO!!! I have been to many mom & pop stops up and down the east coast, and this one here is easily in the top three!! I appreciated the classic diner look, as well as the holiday theme (St. Party's Day). The service was very warm and welcoming, they definitely welcomed a first timer with open arms! As far as the food: I wanna start by saying that I was surprised to be offered honey with my tea. Usually it would have to be requested, but the waitress was on top of this, and it made me feel more at home! The food was everything I was hoping and then some!! So glad that our group ran into this place! We were in PA for the weekend and on the way home we all had a taste for brunch. Found this place and decided to take the plunge. Not too far off the freeway and definitely worth it! Each of us had a different item and we all received just what we asked for. They even got the over easy eggs right! The veggie omelet was LOADED with fresh veggies(plus I added ham) and cheese. Not overly greasy either. I got the side of home fries and they were spot on! My friends got the big dipper and everything was cooked exactly as requested. High quality ingredients and nice and crispy bacon! Last but not least the coffee was perfect for breakfast. Not the best, but hot and serviceable. This place gets 5 stars for their breakfast options,not the coffee. Great place! I've wanted to try Zodiac Dinor for a long time (about 3 years) but it was always closed when we were driving by. So I stopped in for lunch today and unfortunately it wasn't worth the anticipation. I ordered an omelette that was on their signature list, I can't remember the name but it had asparagus, spinach, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, and mozzarella. Yum, right? Wrong! First, it was bland. Please, stop leaving out salt, cooks. If someone has an issue with it they will request that you leave it out of their food. The majority of us like it and some of us actually require it in our diets. Second, there was a definite lack of roasted red pepper in my dish, there were maybe 2 pieces. And finally, the asparagus. Any cook worth their paycheck, in fact anyone who has cooked the vegetable known as asparagus knows to bend the bunch and when it breaks you discard (or for the more creative among us in the kitchen you make into soup) the bottom portion. They are woody and virtually inedible. It wouldn't have been a huge issue if they were just in spear form separate on my plate, but they weren't. They were in my omelette where everything contained therein should be, if not bite-sized, at least edible. I'm usually happy to spend money if I don't have to cook. Enjoyed breakfast at the Zodiac Dinor in June 2015. I had the Galaxy which with the exception of frozen potatoes in a diner was huge and quite good. My one son got pancakes which were enormous. My wife enjoyed her large breakfast as well. Our waiter may have been one of the owners who was not the most friendly servers in the world. Bottom line is the food was good (except for the frozen potatoes), service was ok, coffee was full, and breakfast was well priced. Everyone working there seemed annoyed that we dared show up to their restaurant. I had to send my food back because they waiter misheard my order and due to dietary restrictions I genuinely couldn't eat it. I was very nice and apologetic but when the waiter came back he made rude comments to me about how I should have been more specific. I've never been openly shamed for politely asking to have my order corrected. It was unprofessional and embarrassing. Why be a jerk about an $8 omelet and lose out on a good tip from my large party?? My family decided on Perkins for breakfast one day while on vaca. I personally HATE going to chain restaurants while on vaca so i already had a great list of hometown favs.. Zodiac being #1 on the list. My boyfriend just ordered eggs ham and toast. I went with the Galaxy - 2 eggs, bacon & sausage, home fries & toast. It was fabulous.. I got the sausage gravy and biscuits with scrambled eggs (w/cheese) and it comes with your choice of potatoes, I chose the garlic rosemary home fries. The eggs were great, but unfortunately the potatoes weren't cooked completely, the biscuits were hard as rocks, and the sausage gravy was just terrible. Being from the south I understand that not everyone can make sausage gravy like we do but this was just so bad. You can still taste the flour due to the lack of seasoning, and just the sheer amount of flour they used made the gravy far too thick. I was so disheartened, was really hoping this local spot would be as good as everyone claimed it would be. Food is classic diner food--great portion sizes and cheap prices. Perfect place to grab breakfast/brunch. Service is classic diner service--didn't really care that customers are there (we waited for menus and to order for 10-15 minutes despite a semi-full restaurant). Atmosphere is classic diner atmosphere--old metal tables and paint jobs that could easily be in a bowling alley. Make sure to know how much your food was though. You pay at the front and the server has the ordering ticket, not you. From the first time I spotted the Zodiac on my second day in Erie it went immediately to the Yelp queue. From the outside appearance this is my kind of place the name, the uniqueness of the building and the Best Breakfast in Erie sign all caught my eye. Inside the Zodiac is dark (the back-room at least) vintagey and a bit dirty. The menu is huge and I had a hard time deciding what to try. Really wanting to make sure pancakes were part of my meal, I went with the two eggs, 2 pieces of meat and 2 pancakes. I also added a side of home fries because the waiter said those are crispy and I am a sucker for crispy home fries. Mushy ones are just yuck! My pancakes were amazing! Dense, fluffy and I think I tasted a hint of vanilla. These were definitely the best things I had and some of the best I have ever tasted. I could only eat about 1 though because they are pretty hearty. The scrambled eggs were OK, nothing special the bacon was waay overcooked, completely hard and flat, not juicy or chewy. Home fries were solid. I think next time I will order the pancakes or the omelet. I will definitely be back to the Zodiac, there are so many interesting offerings on their menu for me to not stop back in. However, they could easily be a 4 or 5 star place if they did just a hint of renovation or even cleaning. Coming from the NYC metropolitan area, I'm a bit tough on restaurants, however, Zodiac isn't bad for what Erie has to offer. Their portions are relatively generous, especially their pancakes (3 per order but they're HUGE - like, size-of-your-head-huge). I ordered the spinach, basil, feta, and tomato omelette and though it tasted okay, my particular order was loaded with way too many tomatoes and spinach - so much so that I lost the flavors of everything else. The side of potatoes that came with it were seasoned well though still on the harder/undercooked side. I did love the two hearty pieces of toast that came with the meal. In addition to all this, I also shared an order of blueberry pancakes with a friend, and as mentioned earlier, the pancakes are huge. They appear to be fluffy and light with a surprising height, but in reality, they're sort of heavy. Ok... maybe really heavy. And though they didn't taste bad, I still feel like I ate a brick. The ambiance isn't bad - it's very much what you would expect out of a diner (or rather, dinOr, according to how they spell it). I'm a DoorDash driver so I am not rating the food but the service, and the piss poor service and attitudes I got are what is driving this review. The food might be very good but not good enough for me to ever spend a dime in here after how I was treated. Worker asked kitchen if it was done. "NO! It is NOT done!" She replied. "Yeah we just got that order, so," he said to me. I just replied "oh okay" and sat down. So I sat and listened as the cooks whined and kept screaming hi it's "bs" that the customer ordered every meat, they shouldn't be allowed to, they shouldn't have to wrap it separately, etc. Ridiculous whining and so immature and unprofessional.. I've worked food service. If you're gonna whine and complain about customers at least do it behind closed doors. Jesus Christ, at least try and control yourself if other people are gonna hear you. Then I had it slammed down in front of me and the cook walked away. I didn't even know if everything was there but another worker came and bagged it up. I said "thank you! YOU GUYS HAVE A NICE DAY." The cooks didn't say a word but the hostess said "you too" and that was the most politeness I had gotten while I was in there. I let the customer know, and let DoorDash know how they really feel. Customer was not happy at all and won't be returning or ordering DoorDash again. What I'm also wondering is why the hell do they have a tablet dedicated to taking the orders if they're just gonna throw temper tantrums and take it out on the drivers? Here's a solution.. it's kinda difficult to come up with, but DON'T ACCEPT THE ORDERS. Rocket science, I know dude. My fiance's mom runs a restaurant and has a sign that simply says "we do not accept DoorDash orders" and that's all it takes.. the driver will cancel it on the app and be out of your hair. There's no point in even doing them if you're gonna whine and carry on about it where EVERYBODY can hear you. Regardless I will never go back and I hope they know that the drivers don't have to deal with their bad attitudes towards us, I was advised that next time I deal with a place acting like that towards me I can just walk out and un-assign the order, and if no other drivers pick it up it will be cancelled. It sucks having a $40 order cancelled and tons of food wasted, but it also sucks being treated like dog shit because the workers don't like DoorDash and I don't get paid enough to sit through that. So.. if you go here, good luck! Hopefully you don't order too much meat or want things plated separately or your kitchen cooks might fly off the handle and lose their minds, whether you can hear them or not. read more

Stood inside for 5 min before anyone said hi or acknowledged that we were there. The fact that they disregarded us, and then told us it would be a 15 min wait (as a table was leaving) was more than enough for us to take our business elsewhere.
