Walked in & walked out! I was yelled at twice in 15 minutes!! First time was the "hostess" who loudly & sternly informed me that the bar was only a waiting area - I could not order dinner there. Ok - so I sat - was completely ignored by the bartender for 15 minutes. Until a waiter needed to put a tray down on the bar next to me. I was 2 seats from the end - so there was plenty of room. The tray was sitting comfortably on the bar next to me. The inattentive bartender said "excuse me". Not having received any attention from her previously, I did not think she was speaking to me - until she leaned across the bar & yelled "excuse me" again - never explaining what she needed to be excused for! The Double Hex is a long-standing family restaurant that was taken over by a local team. Food is very high quality - my burger was better prepared that in some places that claim to specialize in burgers. For example, toasted bun, a superb quantity and texture of toppings (not too much), and good steak fries. My party enjoyed their meals as well. The ambiance reminded me a lot of a Denny's but an old school one, and the clientele featured a hefty compliment of seniors. However the food was all much better than what you would get in a chain and the service was delightful. A great option in Manchester. read more

I wondered two years ago if we could buy a whole Carrot Cake since my wife had finally found one equal to her favorite that she had more than 30 years ago in Saratoga. Well, it turned out they were able to accommodate my request last year for our anniversary. What a wonderful celebration - it lasted quite a few days! This year while doing things to celebrate my wife's birthday she suggested we add to the list a trip to Zoey's for a slice of her favorite Carrot Cake. It turns out she was also holding a coupon for a significant birthday discount at the Eileen Fisher Outlet in town. The savings were more than enough to cover the cost of dinner, even though she wasn't paying. They don't take reservations and we thought we were ahead of the game by arriving at 5 pm. But the place was already full, there were three parties ahead of us, and we were informed that it would be a 45 minute wait. So wait we did. They have a low counter with short stools that is used for wait customers since they don't serve food or drink at this counter. After 50 minutes we were seated. Beers are bottled or canned but they are generally local. So we ordered a couple of Vermont brews - an Otter Creek Free Flow IPA ($6.50) for my wife and a Von Trapp Dunkel lager ($6.50) for me. The IPA had a nice grapefruity flavor without being too bitter and my dark lager had good lightly roasted malty flavor and a creamy body. I was interested in trying the Hex Onion Strings ($7) as an appetizer. When they were served, I thought there was no way we would finish such a large portion. Especially since my wife was only going to just try them since she wanted to avoid fried food and save room for both dinner and carrot cake. We both were surprised that I totally cleaned the plate. I didn't find them greasy or overly salty. She enjoyed a cup of their soup of the day, Mushroom Bisque ($4) while I was devouring the onion strings. My wife ordered the Sirloin of Beef Cabernet Salad ($16) for her main course. The steak was nicely grilled and sliced, served over mixed greens, with tomato, red onion, and crumbled blue cheese with a Cabernet vinaigrette. My dinner choice was their Hex-Apeno Burger ($13) - an 8 oz. hand-formed lean ground beef patty topped with jalapeño poppers, pepperjack cheese, chipotle aioli, and all the typical additions of lettuce, tomato and red onion. Since they make their own potato chips, I chose those over coleslaw. They cooked the burger to my requested medium-rare and boy was it tasty. Of course my wife ended with her desired Carrot Cake ($5.50), and in celebration of her birthday I chose the Wendy's Birthday Cake ($5) which for the season was a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting. Both were filling and delicious. They serve a pretty decent cup of coffee too ($2.35). Service is professional, efficient, and the kitchen does a great job even when the restaurant is full. read more

We've been coming to Zoey's during our annual trek to Vermont since they opened. Our reviews have always been positive as the food and service were outstanding. We normally would go two to three times during our week-long stay. I would always get the seafood steam pot for my first visit and my wife the mac and cheese. Always a perfect and consistent delivery. Tonight was a disappointment for the first time ever. My seafood pot was lacking seafood, no garlic toast which was always a given, the pasta was much less than usual and it was swimming in broth. The seafood I did receive was cooked perfectly so I need to point that out. My wife's Mac and cheese which she always loved was bland. That never happened at Zoeys. Everything was always seasoned and salt and pepper was not something you needed to add. Not this time. My wife commented "I feel like I need to add Parmesan or some more cheese!" Couple that with the lack of air conditioning and we had enough. We were in and out in 45 minutes! We usually do a second round of drinks and dessert but tonight we couldn't wait to get out. Now, every restaurant can have an off night so we will be back, we owe them that. I pray the next experience is what we've come to know Zoey's for which was quality! I also need to point out that Rachael, our server, was awesome! She was all about making sure we had what we needed. We want our old Zoey's back! read more

You know when they say the wait is 20-30 minutes and...surprise it really IS...? Staff shortages so they pace the dining room perfectly this Sunday dinner. The food was not a long wait! What was the pandemic not a thing? Ok the menu looked interesting and inexpensive. Should I lower my expectations? We were pleasantly surprised. Pork and maple in Vermont. Yummy. Taco Shrimp salad? Have been here many time solo & with family & friends. What can you say good service, good food, good value. The only con is they do not take reservations. I grazed, had soup - French Onion & two appetizers - Pork Potstickers & Steamed Fresh Mussels. The rest had Country Meatloaf, Grilled Salmon & Shrimp Scampi Fettuccini. Went to Zoey's Double Hex this afternoon. We were a party of six. Five of us were there. The restaurant was under half full, with several tables of six available. The hostess informed us that we could not be seated until all six of us were there. We told the hostess that our other person was 15 minutes away, but that was not acceptable. Could we perhaps order a drink while we waited? Nope, we'd have to stand and wait and gaze at the empty tables. We left. What a lack of hospitality. read more

We were passing through Manchester on a late Sunday afternoon in January and we were hungry. This place looked appealing from the outside, with its interesting building. We were greeted right away by a friendly hostess who sat us immediately. Before long, our waitress, Rebecca F, came by to get our drink orders. I chose my dinner from the specials menu and my husband ordered from the regular menu. Our soup and salad came before our entree, which seems to be a rare occurrence at some places lately. Shortly after, our plates were cleared and our dinners were served. It was delicious! My dinner was more food than I could eat, but yummy! My husband had a steak, mashed Potatoes and green beans. It looks so good, and he enjoyed it. I had homemade chips with my roast beef and cheese sandwich, which he helped me eat. We left full and happy. Got a coffee to go for the rest of our journey. Zoey's is a casual restaurant, sort of like a diner, that appears quite popular with locals to judge by the crowds that show up regularly. We arrived early and were immediately seated. We had a very efficient and friendly server, Meagan, who took good care of us. Sadly, she didn't do the food prep. The menu is diverse with burgers and sandwiches and some pricier entrees. We opted for the filet mignon, which turned out to be a rather average cut of meat whose taste was largely obscured by the cheesy toppings. To be regrettably blunt, it wasn't very good. That made the tomato bisque soup and the chocolate cheesecake dessert seem a little less satisfying than they actually were. So, briefly, it wasn't a bad experience here, but with the problem with our entree it just wasn't one that left us feeling happy. read more

Still delicious food, good portions but no longer as affordable as in the past. For a long time, Zoey's has been a dependable spot for locals as well as tourists to enjoy a wonderful, affordable meal in a low key and pleasant setting. Wife and I used to go there every week with friends. Like everything else however, the affordable part of the equation is gone. The food, service and ambiance are still delightful but the cost has relegated going there to a once every month or so. Tourists still enjoy the restaurant but as a local, my friends and I find the price increases to be budget busters. I highly recommend this restaurant. It won't disappoint. Went to Zoey's to get off-mountain for some good food. Zoey's didn't disappoint. The ambiance was like a cozy cottage dining room. Service was great as well. Wife and I had a cup of tomato-spinach bisque and it was excellent. For main, my son and I ordered the meatloaf sandwich on honey-oat bread. Delish and enough to take 1/2 home for later. Wife ordered the Gobbler turkey sandwich. She enjoyed it thoroughly and also took 1/2 home. Daughter is a Chicken Caesar wrap aficionado and this one was spot on. Since we had some room for dessert, I had the warm, maple bread pudding. Was amazing. Others had ice cream. If we lived in the area, we'd be back often!!! read more

Our hotel recommended Zoey's. Boy was it spot on! Son got the filet with mashed potatoes and Caesar salad. Bonus green beans came with it. Well plated and good proportions! I got an Apple salad with grilled chicken. It was delicious and plenty of it. Again, very nice presentation. Dessert we opted for carrot cake and blueberry crumble. Both were excellent!!!! Our waitress was lovely and deserved every penny of the 20% tip. I will say that the hostess was not as friendly or nice as the waitress. It was a little off putting to be told to wait at the bar but it is a "waiting area" only. It was a bit confusing as usually you can order a drink or food at same spot in many restaurants. Those hex onion strings are seriously my favorite thing ever! The portion sizes here are massive, so come hungry or ready to share. I got the black & blue burger; well cooked, very filling, and so tasty. My boyfriend got the maple bbq wings & enjoyed them, while my mom had the apple walnut salad. My boyfriend's mom had a tuna salad sandwich, and his dad got a burger as well. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, and our waitress was pretty attentive & nice. read more

Nice little spot! Vacationing in Manchester, Vermont and came here for dinner because of the high Yelp rating. Management was very health-conscious which was nice-- reiterated that masks should be remain on until you receive food/drink. Lot of space in the restaurant so you won't feel like you're on top of other guests. Prices were modest ($10-30 depending on if you get a sandwich, entree, etc.). Service was a bit slow but it seemed they had limited staff given the pandemic so it wasn't a bother (they were also very friendly/pleasant!). Food was DELICIOUS-- I had the surf and turf and the steak was tender & shrimp had a nice garlic flavor. In summary-- nice spot if you're looking for a relaxing sit down meal in the area. The area around the restaurant is great for pics (esp. when you go right before sunset) and they have a fun wooden bear statue in the back which can help kill time if you'd like to take some pics before dinner! read more

To start, even though the restaurant was quite empty, we were sat at the worst table, near the women's bathrooms with no one else around and loud squeaky doors (please use some wd40 on those hinges). Wasn't enjoyable hearing the bathroom door open and close every minute or so while we ate. The waitress was very kind and helpful, quick service, though she did seem a little annoyed at times. Not sure if it was us or a bad day, overall she was fine though. The ambiance was odd. It seemed they are going for a diner theme but that didn't translate to all the decor, or even the food really. It was confusing. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day here. The dining area was nice and clean, though the floors were carpeted and gross. Bathroom was not nasty but any means, but it wasn't very clean either. Oh the food. The menu was not very diner like, seemed like it was only burgers instead of an array of diner food. Felt like there weren't many options if you didn't want a burger. My husband had the Cajun burger which he said was fine, nothing special. My chili burger was not enjoyable. At all. The chili was over spiced and not very good, but the worst part was how liquidy it was. My whole plate was full of chili broth which ruined the bottom bun to the point it was soggy, gross, and inedible. The meat patties were WAY too thick so all you tasted was poorly seasoned, dry, ground beef. After cutting the patty in half so it was thinner and removing the bottom bun, it was much more enjoyable. I ate about half and trashed the rest. The fries were also poorly seasoned. The price for the portions was very good. We won't be returning and definitly wouldn't recommend. read more

After we went through the whole meal and I never got a refill, I just asked the waitress to take the drink off the bill and she said "oh I'm coming with your refill". I told her don't worry about it. My husband and I came here on a Sunday night around 6pm. We had to wait 20 mins or so for a table, which was not a big deal. We ordered the butternut squash bisque which was velvety and flavorful. We also ordered the meatloaf and the turkey burger, both of which were very good. Don't pass on the homemade potato chips as a side if you get a burger! Only true disappointment was the carrot cake. The icing was to die for but the cake itself was chewy. I think either the batter was over mixed or the cake was over cooked.
