Before adding a tip I examined the check to see that they had added an 18% tip, without mentioning it and were asking for more gratuity in top of this. My Colombian Husband LOVES this place!!! The food has authentic flavors of the Caribbean-from the DR, Haiti, Latin America, etc... A friend and I decided to stop at Zona Caribbean and try something new. I ordered one of each on there empanadas which was chicken, beef, shrimp, crab, and cheese. They were all really good, I would say the best ones were the chicken and crab. We also got the plantain sandwich which was amazing and the the jerk chicken was ok. The service was really slow and they weren't even that busy. This was an order placed via Door dash and this is the review and complaint I sent to Door dash: Hello, a couple of months ago I ordered from here with no problems. I am not sure what is happening but I am almost confident the restaurant knows of their short comings. They advertised griot and jerk chicken with black rice which was a travesty! The chicken looked like it was boiled and jerk seasoning was thrown on to it. The griot, should not be tiny diced pieces of pork fried hard. I almost lost a tooth trying to eat it. Nonetheless, I spent $50 on this meal and I want every penny of it back. Door dash, I urge you to delete Thai restaurant from your selections as there is something horrific going on there because it is just not the same. Door dash, if you are unable to fully refund me I will dispute the charges with my bank. Again, I've ordered from here months ago and there were no issues. An underwhelming experience. After reading some of the menu descriptions I got excited and decided to order. Got the food delivered. I got the Fried Red Snapper with salad and plantains and some Jerk Chicken Egg-rolls. Firstly, the plantains were over cooked. The salad didn't look fresh. + I had to throw everything else back in my own air-fryer. The Red Snapper had potential but its like someone didn't rub the seasoning or marinade all over the fish. It was just one area where I tasted the seasoning on the fish. The Jerk Egg Rolls we're probably the best thing but they still just lacked all that you'd expect when ordering Jerk Egg Rolls. There was a really large group here, so that could have had a small impact, but everything we ordered was pre-cooked except the grilled shrimp taco. I should order one to go with the shrimp taco next time. K ordered stewed goat, which he always looks for since most places have curry goat & it was really flavorful. I don't like goat, but the stew flavor was even better than mine. And K said it tasted like home (St Thomas). He had rice and pinto beans and thought that was a good complement. We had calamari which was excellently prepared. Nice and crunchy and NOT greasy. The drinks were amazing. The decor is very nice and modern and the restaurant is extremely clean. They have individual tables with large comfortable booths around the wall. The booths look like they accommodate at least 8 average sized people. They had a real nice band there, The McClinton Experience. The singer Deblynne McClinton has a beautiful sultry singer. Smooth jazz. Very nice. They have 4 TVs on the wall broadcasting different games and the bar is beautiful. And I just noticed their Sunday Brunch sign. I will have to come back and check out the brunch. This place opened two weeks ago. It was previously coconut grill but now there are new owners and a completely different vibe than the previous. I was totally underdressed but decided to stop in. The owner introduced himself and we felt like we were apart of the family The menu has a variety of food from almost all aspects of the caribbean. There is jerk chicken, oxtails, salmon, mofongoI had grilled chicken with veggies( I am on a diet) and the chicken was so juicy and well seasoned. My man had the salmon with veggies and I was completely envious of his food. The owner offered us to have us try the rice and peas which was not dry which made me ecstatic. The fresh lemonade was not too sweet or sour. It was perfectly balanced. Even though this place is still in the process of getting their liquor license, I am completely satisfied to just come here for the food.
