I am writing to formally report what I believe was deceptive and unethical conduct by Zoom Drain & Sewer Cleaning regarding services performed at my home. I initially contacted Zoom Drain after experiencing serious plumbing issues in my home. My garbage disposal was making gurgling noises, my toilet would not flush properly, and sewage was backing up and overflowing. During my first phone call with the company, I was told the issue was likely a blockage or backup in the main sewer line. On May 6, 2026, a technician from Zoom Drain came to my property. He informed me that he could either snake the main sewer line for $650 or perform a hydro jet "power wash" service for $950, which he stated included a 90 day warranty. Trusting his professional opinion, I agreed to the more expensive hydro jet service. After completing the work, the technician stated he observed roots inside the sewer pipe and claimed this meant the pipe was likely broken or collapsed. However, only after the service was completed did he provide paperwork stating that the 90-day warranty was void because roots were present in the pipe. This critical information was never clearly explained to me beforehand. I feel I was intentionally misled into paying for a service under false pretenses. On May 8, 2026, a Zoom Drain "Solution Advisor" named Rich Solomak came to my home and inserted a camera into the sewer line. He informed me that because roots were visible, the clay sewer pipe connecting to the street "must be broken" and presented me with a repair estimate of approximately $6,400. Based on the information provided to me, I believed I had no choice but to proceed with the repair, and the work was scheduled for May 26, 2026. Then, on May 11, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM, Rich Solomak called and asked if they could move the repair up to 9:00 AM that same day. I agreed, believing this was necessary and urgent. When the Zoom Drain crew arrived, they admitted that the utility lines on my property, including gas, water, and cable, had not yet been marked. Despite this, they began digging anyway. During excavation, employee Sam Reed used a backhoe and damaged both my Comcast cable line and my irrigation system. While the digging was taking place, a Northampton Township inspector happened to drive by and stopped to question the crew. Sam Reed informed the inspector that they were replacing a terracotta/clay sewer line connected to the street sewer system. The inspector immediately informed him that Zoom Drain did not have the authority to excavate or work on that section of pipe because it belongs to the county. He further explained that township records showed utility markings were not even scheduled until May 14, not May 11, and ordered all work to stop immediately until the matter could be reviewed by his supervisors. I personally spoke with the township inspector afterward because I was deeply alarmed and confused. He informed me that if the terracotta sewer line connecting to the street was actually damaged or blocked, the county, not a private contractor, would be responsible for repairing it at no cost to me, as that work is covered through township taxes. He also explained that roots commonly grow through pipe joints and expand inside the line, but that alone does not automatically mean the pipe is broken or collapsed. Most disturbing was the inspector's statement that Zoom Drain regularly works within Northampton Township and should already know these regulations. He expressed concern that the company may have intentionally attempted to bypass township oversight and rush the excavation before inspectors became involved. The fact that the work was originally scheduled for May 26, utility markings were set for May 14, and yet the company suddenly pushed to begin digging on May 11 raises serious concerns about their intentions and business practices. I feel that Zoom Drain exploited my lack of plumbing knowledge and the urgency of my situation to pressure me into approving thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs. I trusted this company during a stressful and vulnerable situation, only to discover that I may have been manipulated into paying for services I did not need and exposed to property damage and unnecessary excavation. read more

They are ok for small/quick plumbing jobs, we had to get something slightly more complicated and they couldn't do it (e.g. soldering etc). They initially came for inspection and said they could do the job which is why we hired them. On the day of, the technician spent time on fixing the issue but later realized it would need something that they couldn't do. We were sent a discounted invoice of $135 because they couldn't actually fix our issue. read more

needed a cast iron pipe replaced under a concrete patio. Zoom was the highest price of 3 bids, I expected quality work. They were supposed to saw cut the concrete, they didn't, rough jackhammered the cut. They were supposed to tamp the fill, so the concrete could be replaced, I stepped in the finished trench and my foot sank 4 inches. They could not show me the hole in the pipe that was the cause of the problem. read more

I had a couple of plumbing issues; toilet with a crack in the tank and a very slow-draining kitchen sink. ZD offered a free estimate which I appreciated since I didn't want to pay for a diagnosis that could result in a high estimate. As it turned out, ZD's estimate was more than I budgeted, so I went with a friend's plumber instead. While this plumber is more reasonable and within my tight budget, I'm also on the wait list for service. ZD was very quick responding and sending a rep for the estimate. I was surprised they were here within a couple of hours of my call. A+ for speed and promptness. read more

I called them to clear a tub drain. The tech spent some time trying to clear the drain. He informed me that the overflow was not connected, so he couldn't clear the drain. He then told me that it would be $340 for him to 'attempt' to clear the drain (but not actually clear it.) He reduced it but I still paid over $200 and still had a clogged drain. I called in a contractor, who is not a plumber and he cleared it in 15 mins without any more access to the drain then the Zoom technician had. Look elsewhere for drain cleaning service, unless you like paying for nothing. read more

So at first it was a bit difficult getting them here. I had scheduled them originally near the holidays for a month-emergency call and initially the first appointment had to be moved, then again I had to reschedule thanks to a Covid exposure. Finally we had an appointment and they were actually able to come early so yay! The technician was very professional and friendly, explaining absolutely everything in detail and making sure all my questions were clearly answered. They worked fast diagnosing and then replacing my equipment, went over everything again when they were done. I'm definitely keeping them in my contact list for the future. read more

When replacing my garbage disposal yesterday I didn't break a nail but my 100 year old drain pipes in the kitchen weren't so lucky. You don't realize how much your kitchen sink is needed until it's not available. Being a chick, I'm thinking how to cook & clean without my sink??!!! Lol Needless to say I was up early researching who could rescue me and my pipes. Zoom had the veteran status and I appreciated the small, now large family business. I have used Zoom twice over the past few years and today's experience confirmed that they are are great choice! The technician came only a few hours after my call, with lots of confirmations and info before he arrived, was courteous (always nice), super-efficient (critical), and resolved the issue (brilliant!). I had a gurgling toilet that was getting louder, smellier, and with more frequent displays - and which had been checked out a couple of years ago by Roto Rooter, who told me it was fine. Zoom checked it all out and fixed it. I've had basement flooding in Philly 3 times and having this resolved, for a very reasonable fee, was a huge relief. read more

I do not recommend Zoom Drain. Last week, I hired Zoom Drain to complete a sewer scope. After comparing a few companies on Google, Yelp, NextDoor, and local Facebook groups (most reviews were, frankly, pretty similar - a mix of positive and negative); and asking for recommendations from our agent and friends - we decided to go with Zoom because some friends had used them recently with no issues, specifically for a sewer scope (also for an older home). I'll start with the positives: scheduling was very easy. Zoom front office staff responded quickly to my calls and were very flexible when I had to change my appointment to another day. Staff was friendly and answered my many questions (and did not seem annoyed when I called on Monday and Tuesday to confirm my Wednesday afternoon appointment). Here come the negatives. First, Zoom's sewer scope service is more costly than the other businesses I looked into ($429, about $70-80 more). Second, Zoom could only provide 4-hour time windows (with the technician calling you when they are 30 minutes away). My agent said this is a long window for a sewer scope. (On the other hand, is it really that far off from, say, Comcast?) Third, they don't even make those time windows! As you will read below, the office staff is very limited in terms of what they can do for you when it's the day of and you want an ETA. My experience was not great. This past Wednesday, I waited for the sewer scope technician from 2-6pm, and they never showed up. I called at 3:30pm for an update, and they said the technician was at another job but that I was the "next one on his list." I called again at 5pm and received the same response. By 5:45pm, I still hadn't received my 30-minute-away call and no one at Zoom could provide me with an update. Zoom basically said the technician wouldn't be there by 6pm (the end of our 4-hour window). While somewhat apologetic, Zoom did not offer any solutions. By this point, I had spoken with about 4-5 different people. One man was fairly curt and didn't seem to care, but all the women I spoke with (shout out to Janae (sp?) and Shannon, who were very kind!) After the current homeowners graciously allowed us to reschedule for the next day, Zoom agreed to cancel the technician for that night and send someone the next day (Thursday) between 10am-2pm. I asked (in vain) if I could get a time-certain or see if we could be first on the technician's list, but they said no. On Thursday morning, I confirmed the 10am-2pm time frame. I called for updates at 10:30am and 1:15pm because I had not heard from the technician. Unfortunately, I got the same response - the technician was on another job and would call me when he was 30 minutes out. I was pretty anxious at this point given that the current homeowners had already made their home available in the middle of a pandemic for nearly 8 hours. Zoom front office staff transferred me directly to their dispatch so I could get a better ETA, but dispatch hung up on me twice. I finally got a call (and text) at 1:50pm telling me that the technician was on his way to the home in No Libs --- from Bala Cynwyd. Zoom acknowledged that the technician would be there after 2pm (again, after the 4-hour window). He ultimately arrived around 2:30pm. To Zoom's credit, I was able to get a 10% discount, but only after I asked for it. They did not offer this on their own. The technician conducted the sewer scope pretty quickly and called me (because I could not be present that day - I took the day off of work on Wednesday to meet with them) with an update to explain what the pipes were made out of. Unfortunately, he was unable to get the camera past a trap between the home and the street, so I have no idea what those pipes look like. Zoom later sent me a "report" (which had nothing helpful in it); an invoice (which included the information the technician explained on the phone, so this was more of a report than the actual report); and a 30-second and 90-second video of the actual sewer scope. Overall, my experience was very stressful, and I wish I had gone with another company. I'm sure most people who have used Zoom (including my friends) did not have an experience like mine, but I was very disappointed. My agent (as well as the seller's agent) also seemed annoyed and are not likely to recommend them either. read more

It began very well and ended badly. Their techs are great - knowledgeable, professional, hard-working - and it is a difficult business to clear underground pipes. They couldn't clear it and came up with a plan to lay a new pipe line. I signed a contract to lay a new pipe and gave a deposit on the $3000 they were charging for the new pipe line. On a scheduled day a new crew came, no one seemed to knew anything about the previous work, this time they hand dug down to the clogged pipe, basically confirmed that it was clogged or crushed by tree roots and called it a day, demanded full payment and said the manager would call to schedule another day. I did pay in full, and they never returned. When I called to ask why I was told it wasn't a contract, it was an estimate only. If I wanted them to return and actually lay a new pipe line that would be $2,000 more than the $3,000 I had already paid. Although my issue wasn't completely resolved, Zoom Drain was on time, professional and even provided options and cost for each. The tech was able to put a camera and a jet in my drain. That cleared out some of the clog I had which allowed my toilet to flush. Overall a good company and would use them in the future if needed. read more

I updated the review from 1 star to 3. Zoom Drain did reimburse me on 11/19/20 for the work they didn't do effectively on 4/6/20 that I had to pay somebody else to do. At least I got my money back. read more

My sister used Zoom over a year ago paid $7000 to have her pipes fixed all was good till today. Technician Kenneth Lischke was well groomed & professional. When I called for a clog in my basement drain I spoke to a real person and not an answering machine. I was told the technician would ring me back within 15 minutes, and they did. The technician was at my house within an hour of making the call. My drain is clean and ready to go!! I called Zoom Drain in a panic since my nephew found out a tree branch was growing in the toilet pipe causing a major clog. The service technician came out to NE Philadelphia the same day. Michael Nestor was able to resolve this critical issue with experience an professionalism. He wore a mask and coverings on his his shoes each time he entered my house. Michael showed me pictures from the camera of the drain and additional tree debris etc in the drain and explained in detail what was going on. He was great and deserves recognition. Zoom ranks high in all categories: (a) experience; (b) credibility; (c) efficiency; (d) fairness in pricing; (e) reliability as to schedule; (f) service support (from staff at the home office to staff in the field); and (g) accessabiity and accountability of company owners. I have yet to meet/interact with a Zoom employee who does not leave me with the feeling of : "Wow, what a great ambassador for that company. Zoom does a great job of hiring people." I do, however, believe I failed to mention the following. To succeed, every business must provide the best possible "Service" at a reasonable price but must also have "Great Customer Service". My experience with "Zoom Drain" started with my call to their ":Front Office". There I was greeted by "LISA". I explained my problem and the urgent need to not only clear the drain but also my hope to watch the Phillies play in the World Series last night. Well, the Phillies may have lost, but I hit a "GRAND SLAM" with Lisa. She kept me informed of when the service tech would arrive and I was able to see the first pitch of that game. Wow - first time using them and couldn't be happier. I had an urgent water backup in the basement at my rental property in South Philadelphia. They came out same day, called me in advance of arrival and texted me a picture of the technician. I think the plumber that came did not know what he was doing. He got a cable stuck in the drain and then wanted to cut holes. The job went from $547, then another $650 to over $4,000. This is after I told him that this was my Dad's house who is 95 and on Social Security. I hate to think what it would have cost a younger person. I did not want them to continue job. Very, very poor service and communication skills. I hired Zoom drains (phoenixville, PA) to clear a drain line for me and asses what needed to happen next. They gave me a quote to replace the curb trap and said it would be a one day process. We decided to move forward. They showed up to our house and had 3 guys on site. It took them 8 hours just to dig the hole and cut the pipe. After doing that, they decided to leave without saying anything to my wife, who was home all day. They failed to tell my PREGNANT wife that she would not be able to use the toilet or water for a whole night. I had to call zoom to ask why it was not finished and why they were so unprofessional in not telling a homeowner that they would not be able to use their toilet. They did not return my call until 9:00PM that night (3 hours later). They had no excuse as to why they would leave a home without telling the residents: A) the job took longer than expected B) when they would return, and C) you can not use your water/toilets. During the install process, they had to cut into my driveway. In the quote, they include pouring the concrete to patch the driveway. It has now been over 2 weeks since they replaced the pipe and they still have not returned to patch the concrete. I have called multiple times since to voice my displeasure and to find out when it will be taken care. Ive been told that they will return my calls, but have not heard from anybody. The only time they will call, is to request payment for the UNFINISHED service.
