Zoot Coffee was certainly a surprise! My girlfriend and I were visiting and we didn't expect at all finding a vegan breakfast place. We tried all their vegan items and they were delicious! Also the coffee was excellent (they use a "La Marzocco" coffee maker so this is already the first step to a damn fine good coffee!). I remembered hearing about Zoot's from a friend, and when I passed through Camden recently I decided to stop and check it out ("if there's a parking space nearby, then it's meant to be" is frequently how I decide to stop at a place that's in the heart of a busy main strip - wouldn't you know, on a Wednesday afternoon there was a space right in front of the little shop). What a gem of a place! It's got a few tables in front near the enormous windows, and a few more tables out back that seem a bit more private. When I came, there was someone hammering away on a laptop with notes and whatnot spread out on the table in front of her (it looked like she had been there for a while and no intention of leaving anytime soon); the entire Camden High School cross-country team; and some local parks and recreation folks grabbing a coffee "because they had to keep up with the DOT" (it was fascinating enough to remember, what can I say?). The point: it's the perfect space for EVERYONE. I got an iced coffee with some all natural caramel flavoring. Zoot's coffee is STRONG (which is how I prefer my java), so don't expect anything bland or weak here. I like that my iced coffee came in a hot coffee cup (because, really, why does there need to be a difference in cups between the two anyway?), and appreciated that the soy was complimentary. The caramel was a nice touch, and I would encourage you to check out the other flavors they've got! I was also pleasantly surprised to see that of the four things left (a muffin, a scone, a bar, and quiche) in their food case, three were vegan and gluten-free. WHATTTT?! I felt like I was in an alternate universe where nothing was off limits to my little stomach. I settled on a Scottish oat and ginger bar... and it was divine. The ginger flavor was STRONG (which is also how I prefer my ginger), naturally energising, and filling to boot. Perfect little midday pick-me-up after a hike in Camden Hills State Park. The snack and coffee ran me about $6 (which would have been like $10 in Portland), the pleasant barista's company was priceless. She seemed to genuinely like her job and her friendly disposition was welcomed. Definitely one of my new favorite coffee shops in the state! read more

Very busy place. Good service. WiFi left a lot to be desired. I consider good WiFi to be a core service of coffee shops now, so that could use a lot of love. Minus 1 star. Coffee shots were pretty bitter and difficult to drink even after I retreated to doctoring up with 1/2 and 1/2 and a dose of honey. This charming coffee shop is located right in downtown Camden. The focus is definitely on all sorts of drinks, not just coffee, and they offer some small bites and pastries too. My friends had a black iced tea, which was good, but came in a hot cup which was a little weird. I enjoyed a very good iced americano although I asked for an iced coffee and it would have been good if they acknowledged there was a difference. My wife said her iced latte was also great. We got an almond butter and jelly toast for $5, not cheap for what it was but the bread was nice. Ambiance is chill and would come here to do some work read more

The coffee here was fine, but the service was awful and downright hostile. I got there 2 minutes before opening, so waited outside on the street patiently (didn't knock or even say anything, just smiled at the baristas to say hi) when a barista told me through the door in an unfriendly way, "we still have 5 minutes before we open". Then when they did open, a different barista told me "for future reference, you should wait over there" pointing the left of the store. (There were no other customers in sight). Not sure why the people here are so unfriendly to paying friendly customers. Don't worry, Zoot, there won't be a future visit. read more

After looking for multiple legit coffee shops in the area, we finally decided on this one based on the menu options and look of the shop. Our first thoughts as we walked through the door is the shop has a good vibe going for it and some good music playing. Patrons seem to be enjoying the coffee, artwork & company. One way we judge a craft coffee shop is by its drinks mainly espresso and Cortado. Our orders for today were a Cortado & an espresso tonic. I got a little worried when the cashier asked what size Cortado? It should only be 2oz of espresso and 2oz of steamed milk. One star lost. Staff were friendly and made our orders very quickly. The Cortado was okay, definitely not the worst I've had and not the best either. The microfoam was lacking, and although I could taste chocolate notes at the beginning of the drink, the rest fell flat. Also there was no attempt for any art( no marks against this, as Cortado's don't always have art) the Espresso/tonic was delicious and refreshing, everything to be expected from one. The one thing that got me though is when I looked over and saw the barista brushing the spent espresso grinds from the tray of the Astoria grinder back into the dosing chamber with a brush... this is appalling. How can you serve a decent espresso if it's not ground fresh and you are recycling you coffee grinds. 3 stars max. Hope this review helps with some training. Keep improving and learning! read more

When I'm in Camden, and I'm in Camden a lot, I go to Zoot for my Americano. It's probably the best Americano I've had in the states. My favorite has to be their iced Americano in the summer, takes me back to high school. Anyhoo their espresso is fantastic quality and their prices don't gouge your pockets too bad (despite what some folks are saying on here...). At times I've thought they were a little rude and passive aggressive BUT I'll say it again, best Americano. They don't have a huge selection for breakfast, however they do offer quiche sometimes and baked goods. They have a toast option with fancy spreads which runs a little steep (4.95 I believe) but it is good.. not sure if it's $5 worth of good, but that depends on how much you value good toast. Definitely come here for a cup of coffee and if you're hungry they have something to nibble on. If you're looking for a sit down meal with a group this probably isn't the best bet. Good for meetings, free wi-fi if you're doing work and if you're just looking to spend some alone time with a good book. They prefer cash and I believe the card minimum is $5.00. Crashed out from four hours in the car and rapidly waning caffeine levels, we stopped here with low expectations and high need for coffee. We stepped in and WHOAH! there was a huge line and only a single barista behind the counter, carefully filling every order. While we waited for service we looked at some of the lovely hand-thrown mugs and cups made by a local artist, some of the collage art on the walls, and took a well-needed pit stop, where local posters advertising rock star camp made us laugh ("your audience is waiting!!!") The coffee was very good. They don't roast it themselves but they do know their way around an espresso machine and put some lovely drinks in our hands and in our bellies. The space, airy and bright with windows looking east, is a great place to spend a few hours and read the paper. One of the regulars had his gorgeous dog with him, sitting at his feet quietly. Any cafe that lets customers bring their dogs inside is okay by me. read more

I only had one thing in mind when I went in here - the restroom. Instead, I didn't just leave relieved, but I left with a strawberry banana smoothie and a frosted cupcake. The smoothie was clean, healthy and refreshing. The cupcake was the exact opposite of the smoothie, but in a good way. It felt like I was biting into an extremely rich, soft, buttery cake and the frosting was equally delicious. I wanted to nap from satisfaction, but I had to keep driving sadly.
