My brother and I saw the show "1887 - A Journey in Time", and it was very good, especially considering that we were sailing at more than 18 knots in the Gulf of Mexico during the performance. Studio B is located on Deck 4, right below the Promenade shops. Unlike the nearby Royal Theater which occupies both deck 4 and 5, Studio B has less seating for a more intimate experience, closer to the stage/ice. The ice surface is about 50 ft by 100 ft (a typical NHL hockey rink is 85 x 200), and the venue can seat 900 people. It is definitely worth it to sit as close as possible to the surface: getting a close up view of the performers can really change the experience. The 1887 show is inspired by the works of the French author, Jules Verne, and takes the audience through different time periods, with costume changes throughout. The use of lights and lasers would often change the ice surface visual to explain the location or time period the next act was happening. One of the visuals was to show that were deep in the ocean (e.g. "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"), and it was really well done. The heroine, Juliet, travels through time with her time traveling companion, to find true love. (I learned this from researching online...it was difficult to follow the story during the show). The 45 minute show has 13 performers (all of them professional level skaters), with ice dancing and pairs figure skating and men/women singles being prominent. There were quite a few triple jumps being done. At one part, there was a magic trick (disappearing, levitating 'Juliet') and some dangerous looking sword play between 'Romeo' and 'Tybalt' on the ice. There was a break in the story to bring out Dimitri, who was an expert on using the Cyr wheel on the ice, taking advantage of centrifugal force and gravity. Definitely an enjoyable show for all ages, and one where you will admire how much money and effort was spent to give the audience a good show.

It's where you can find the "Greetings from Galveston" mural as well as a cool looking mosaic of George P. Mitchell (the "Son of Galveston"). It's a nice tribute to the Mitchell's who started up the project to create this area of celebration. It's currently the place where free movie and music events occur every summer. We were there just before Christmas time. There was a huge Christmas tree with a Santa's chair in front of it. A great photo op for family pictures. But, it was the Galveston mural that really brought us here. My husband was born on the island (B.O.I.), but moved to Tampa when he was 2 years old. It was his first time seeing Galveston since that time. The picture of him with the Galveston mural made this visit special. It will always be memorable for us.

It is also recorded as the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history. The movie provides great context about Galveston's history, and helps you appreciate the rest of what you see and experience during your visit in town. The documentary was well restored and very informative. The Texas Seaport Museum recommend we go next door to see the film. There are several showings throughout the day, and they warned us to arrive 15 minutes before show time, as they are strict about not allowing for late seating. The theater shows 2 other films. The Great Storm only costs $6 for adults. Tip - the Theater is located on Pier 21 with other restaurants. If you are going to Pier 21 include time for a meal or drink at one of the restaurants. Then they will validate for your parking.

The concept of the three pyramids is cool, and the aquarium and rainforest pyramids were alright. They were still very small though, and did not showcase many interesting animals. The discovery pyramid was baffling as there is only a movie showing on the first floor and an extremely juvenile educational exhibit on the second floor. I can't believe there's an admission fee to enter just the discovery pyramid. We also saw the Dinos Alive exhibit, which was probably the most lame dinosaur exhibit I've seen. The 4D movie was catered to very young children. We got the after 4pm pass for $50 each, which includes access to all the attractions. We were done within two hours, even though we tried to stretch it out. We didn't do the ropes course/zipline or the waterpark though, but we saw that the waterpark is very small.

Tonight, Diana had a Barbie party ( the movie opened in theaters today) We paid to be VIP's so, we got food, champagne, and a cute flamingo make-up bag.
