Has anyone got to them yet or filed a lawsuit? I tried calling and all the lines are disconnected.

I sent a suit which was burnt by a cigarette almost a year ago. I have not received a call nor an estimate. I managed to get her on the telephone after about 3 months of trying and she said she had the suit and would get on it right away. Now after another 6 months I have neither received the suit nor have I been able to reach her by telephone nor writing to her. BTW she says that she is currently in New Jersey someplace and no longer in NYC. This was a $8,000 Brioni suit and want it back!! read more

I have done everything I can think of to get rid of the moths that somehow manage to live in my apartment...we see one or two over a year's time, but no other indications. Until I take a sweater out of a drawer that I had forgotten about last year (didn't wear it much) - and there is a weirdly irregular hole just about where my breastbone would be! I love this sweater - cashmere with a wonderful pattern like water rippling over round pebbles in a stream bed. I'm taking it to Zotta Re-Weavers - where they have magically repaired a number of my favorite sweaters over the years - not cheap but worth it! I will report back....this is a particularly challenging repair - crossing my fingers! read more

Somehow I'd managed to tear the V in one of my favorite V-neck sweaters (a black cashmere Costume National number -- and I namedrop only to make a point of the quality of Ms. Zotta's work and justify shelling out $20 for a repair when yes, I know, I could get cashmere for cheap at Uniqlo). It was only a small tear, but the location made it immediately obvious. So what does one do in this type of situation? I suppose I could've taken it to a dry cleaner, which often offer minor alteration and repair services, but I was afraid they'd just do a simple darning job and worried that the repair threads might be visible. So instead, I took my sweater up to a dusty little shoebox room on the 17th floor of a random midtown hi-rise and handed it through a window to an elderly old Italian woman to get it rewoven. Apparently she usually accomplishes this by taking threads from another part of the garment and weaving them back into the problem area. And, two weeks later, I got my sweater back, good as new. The repair was completely seamless and totally invisible. The only reason that I don't give her the full five stars is because she's in such demand that her turnaround time suffers, but it's a small price to pay if it means you don't have to retire your favorite sweater. read more

This place has been featured in a number of prominent publications and the reviews here seemed great, so I said I'd give it a shot with my brand-new Theory sweater that I stupidly snagged on my jewelry. I suppose everyone's perception of "reasonably priced" is subjective, but a price quote of $70 to fix a tiny hole seemed quite unreasonable to me. I know this kind of work is labor-intensive, but I can't really force myself to spend the better part of what I would use to buy a brand-new sweater. In addition, Alice was on vacation, and her partner/employee said it would take at least 1 or 2 months to get my sweater back. I think I'll keep looking. read more

Do you believe in magic? I do, after Alice Zotta fixed the rip in my Dolce&Gabbana virgin wool/ cashmere suit. Sure it takes time, especially because she is where the designers go to fix their runway mishaps, ie cigarette burns, rips & tears, etc. She is truly an artist practicing a lost skill, therefore even though the suit was away for some time. 5 stars for flawless, baby. read more

Miraculous. I am amazed after every repair, and I've been a customer for decades. Once they pull out the string that marks the rewoven area you cannot spot the repair. Yes, they are slow. So don't be in a hurry. They are not cheap. But they are a great value. And they need to update their contact info. I would not risk going to any other re-weaver when I have a garment worth saving. read more

If you think that last review was odd. This one is more so. A Zotta is fantastic at what they do. The scoop here is from the Private investigator I had to hire to get my garments back to me. Alice Z died in 2010. Her niece Roberta has the business. She is at the NJ address given in the review just below mine. the phone number is valid and she gets messages. She has all of our garments, safe and finished. Garments are safely in storage. She does not have an email. She said she couldn't deal with it. She would be flooded. It will take time but garments will be returned to everyone ASAP. There is a great lot of sorting through to be done. All items are in opaque plastic not visible unless unwrapped. She must go one by one. She sounded very nice and a but frantic with the amount of work to get items back to customers. She is not going out of business either. There is no NYC location yet. I hope this helps anyone who is upset with a loss of sweaters etc. We will have our things returned. read more

When told I could get a refund after 5 months of waiting for my garment repairs, I was told that the partial refund would be issued in the next billing cycle so I should give it at least 30 days, after that I was told it was in the mail (it was not), and kept being told to be patient, I'd get my refund. This went on for months because I tend to believe that people are generally honest but I finally initiated a dispute through American Express but they ruled in 'Zotta's' favor because I had allowed too much time to elapse between my initial payment and the initiation of my dispute. read more

I went here after taking a tumble the first day of wearing a pair of Gucci pants, opening up the knee. Other places said the could not do it. I went to Gucci for a reference they sent me here with a similar piece of fabric. These pants are a black watch plaid so it took time. I was amazed at the quality of repair. ZOTTA are not cheap, but it was an $800 pair of pants I could not give up on right away. I really wish I could post before and after photos on here. This is going to be an odd review. First, the workmanship of Zotta's Re-weavers is beyond reproach. They are quite fabulous. Everything sent has been returned in pristine condition. In March '20, I both picked up items and dropped off 3 cashmere sweaters (with a deposit) to be repaired. In Jan '21 I attempted to find out if said items were ready -- no response to any calls. I subsequently found out that they had closed the Mad Ave office, removed all items, and have made no effort to contact me or others re: our clothes. I have subsequently sent a lettre to Ms Zotta (certified with signature return receipt -- which I have rec'vd back a confirm) at the fol address: 283 Bluff Road, Ft Lee, NJ. 07024-4246 -- requesting a plan on how I can get my garments back and pay the balance. I will give it 10 biz days and then will file a small claims in NYC. I suggest everyone else do the same. CoVid is no excuse for not contacting clients and making arrangements. In the end, I have to find another reweaver of the same calibre -- PS do not use Fr-American -- I tried once and Zotta had to fix the mess they made. read more

OK, let's pretend you're a jaded New Yorker. You have attitude You are cheap You have a really nice piece of clothing that you got at a price and now it has a hole in it. You go to Alice. This in itself is a timewarp experience, back to the day when people cut office doors in half vertically so they could do business but still have some separation from the customer. You give Alice your garment. Maybe she will look at it and shake her head and say she can't fix it. Well, it's a New York story, right? But let's pretend she says she can fix it. She will name a price that will make you think Alice herself is living in a time warp. And yes, it may take a while. Flash forward. You go to get your garment. She brings it out. The first thing you notice is that, in the place where your hole used to be, there is a large and very visible thread. She says something about "here is where we did the work." You say to yourself, "Yeah, she's pretty good." Cause you can kind of maybe make out some reweaving work Then -- wait for it -- she tugs the thread out and suddenly THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHERE THAT DAMNED HOLE WAS. Folks, you could do worse in this world than to buy yourselves some clothes eating moths, set them to work on a coupla nice woolen items, and take them to Alice, just for the theater. The woman is magical. She is probably about 110 years old by now, too, so don't wait. Go See Alice. (A loyal customer since the early 1980's) UPDATE Alice went to her heav'nly reward in 2010, and if she hadn't, she'd be 100 years old and probably still in the cubby hole. There is reason to think the business (if it still survives!) has suffered as well. Too bad for us all, yet the Yelp site has a mix of more recent reviews. Based on great online reviews I thought this was the place to save my really nice Burberry coat which had developed a mysterious hole-- perhaps from too much friction from my shoulder bag. The did fix the hole in my coat (I wouldn't call it invisible though-- far from it!) but it was extremely expensive ($200), and took forever (they told me 2-3 weeks and it took 5, so the season was over when I finally got it back). Plus they took the fabric to reweave the hole from the fabric self-belt and neglected to sew the ends closed which I thought was very sloppy. So now I have to shell out another $20 at my local drycleaner to get that repaired. If I knew what the end result would be I would have put all that cash towards a new coat instead. read more

I was referred to Alice Zotta by a local suit store as being the best weaver in Manhattan. I agree with that. The weave job on my suit required them to cut out a square of fabric and open up the coat seam to sew in the new piece. The weaving was done flawlessly. However, the tailoring on the suit coat was not quite right. After having the jacket for some 5 months, I wasn't about to take it back to have it fixed. So I will live with it. The price I think is reasonable for the weave, but I don't think I got the quality I was looking for on the tailoring. Additionally, I left them with about a yard x 6inches of fabric which they assured me I would get back. All I received was a 6x6 inch piece that wasn't even close to what I gave them. Overall experience was not great. They are great at what they are known for, weaving. The rest leaves something to be desired. read more

Gave them a cashmere sweater years ago and they did a perfect job in closing a hole. More recently gave them a fine wool suit jacket with a hole the size of a pencil eraser. They closed the hole with stitches covering the area of a dime and it's obvious and ugly. It costed $110 and I'm pretty sure my cleaners could've done the same work for a fraction of the cost. They did warn me in advance that it won't be perfect but it wasn't even close to perfection. read more

I brought a new Eileen Fisher sweater to Zotta Re-Weavers 6 weeks ago. It was purchased at a discount because of some unraveling. Zotta Re-Weavers still haven't finished the repair. They called last week telling me another part of the sweater needed repair and they needed more time. I have a gorgeous green cashmere shawl which had a small quarter-inch hole in it. I must have caught it on something. Mind you, Zotti Re-Weavers is not cheap (what is nowadays?), but if you have something that is precious to you and you want it repaired properly, this is the place to go. My shawl looks great. You would never know it had a hole in it. You'd have to search really hard to find where it was, if you could find the spot at all. The small hole cost me $45 to repair, and it would have cost $65 had I gone with another more perfect method. This was totally worth it for me. They share an office space in a building on Madison Avenue, which I found a little strange at first, but, hey, small businesses find creative ways to survive, and I hope this one sticks around for a long time. read more

Repairs are neither quick nor cheap, however, the workmanship is outstanding. I had a English tweed coat with several tears repaired and you can not discern that there ever were any tears. They leave little white threads that you can pull out so you can find where the repair was done. Again, the repairs are invisible to the eye. I plan on using them again. read more

I give Alice Zotta 5 stars because there weren't any more to give. Several years ago I managed to tear the seat in the trousers of a favorite suit. Of course it wasn't a separated seam. Any tailor or local dry cleaning shop can fix that. It was parallel to the seam. Someone recommended Alice. So I sent the suit, got a quote a couple of weeks later, agreed to the price and then waited, and waited, and called, and waited. I was starting to get a little annoyed at the long turnround time when the suit finally arrived. Where was the hole? Where was the repair? I couldn't tell! I had to turn the trousers inside out to see the patch of fabric she deftly "stole" from another area of the suit and wove into the damaged area. I literally got out a 14x loupe and could not tell that it was actually two pieces of fabric that had become one. Alice is an artist and crafts-person from an age gone by. God bless her and her talent. If you choose to use her you will not be disappointed! read more

Unbelievable is all I can say. I just picked up my three sweaters that were devastated by moths over the summer. Although there was a red thread to show me were the holes once were once the repair was done you couldn't find the numerous holes. One sweater had 18 holes. Would highly recommend them to anyone who needs sweaters repaired or clothing rewoven. The price is not cheap but the service is excellent. read more

Great reweaving, but TERRIBLE customer service. The Worst! Promised to fix my garment in 4 weeks, and it's been 3 months (12 weeks!) already and I still don't have it. They say they will speed up the process and call me back and then never call back...4 times already. When I call them back, they pretend like they've never heard from me. I would never use their services again. Plus a small rip in a pair of pants cost me $120. The worst customer service for the highest possible price. read more

I had used Alice many times years ago and was very pleased. I recently had my son's suit pants repaired by whoever brought the business and was very disappointed. Besides charging $100 for a less than 1" by 1" V shaped tear, there was no effort to weave the patch in. It now is a 2" by 2" raised patch on the pants leg. Will not ever use them again. My wife probaly could have done as good of job read more
