They earn their single star, mainly because they offer the standard dry cleaning service--drop off your dirty clothes, come back and get them after they're clean. Just don't bring leather clothing here to be tailored or repaired. They claim to be leather experts, but they are not. I brought a leather skirt here that needed to be hemmed. They glued it with some kind of crazy glue that, after three days, dried to be as hard as rock candy. It snapped, crackled and popped and I was lucky enough to be able to peel it off, but it did damage to the leather. When I brought the skirt to them, I'd already been to a couple other places that admitted to not being comfortable taking on the repair of a leather skirt, but Fleur de Lis was confident they could do it. When I returned to let them know they'd failed, they were confident in telling me they wouldn't refund me either. I don't understand why they thought they could just glue it with the stuff they used. If this is the same glue they use to repair anything else, I would not recommend you take anything here to be hemmed. read more

I normally don't write many reviews but I feel compelled to do so about Fleur De Lis Cleaning so other people can avoid their clothes getting ruined. Long story short, IF YOU VALUE YOUR CLOTHES, PLEASE TAKE THEM ELSEWHERE. The people here are completely unreasonable and if something should happen to your clothes, you'll get nothing in the way of customer service from them. Long story (very long-winded): I brought my clothes for wash and fold on a Monday morning. I asked the lady to hang dry a few shirts and she said that they don't hang dry shirts because they get lost when they send them out to be cleaned. That alone should've cautioned me to avoid this place if they can't keep track of your clothes as many other wash and fold places hang dry clothes without any problem. Anyway, I brought 30 lbs worth of clothes for wash and fold and she said they would be ready the same day since I brought them in before 10am. I went back Monday evening and the lady said "Monday is a really busy day for wash and fold, it won't ready until tomorrow." So I didn't get my clothes until Tuesday evening, and this turned out to be the least annoying thing about this ordeal. I unpacked my clothes and they smelled like they were spun in a dryer filled with charcoal. It must have been spun dry the heat of a thousand suns because they smelled burned. This had to have been the case because my t-shirts with printed writing/images were ruined. It was like someone ironed directly on the print and then smeared it (as shown in the pictures). These shirts are several years old and I have taken them to many other wash and folds without any problem before. Not only were my t-shirts with print ruined, a lot of my light colored clothes had stains from other clothes (also shown in the pictures). I told them to separate colors and darks (and even then it wouldn't have mattered because the clothes I brought were years old and don't run anymore). I understand that mistakes happen so I brought a few of the damaged clothes back to see how they would handle it. The answer is, terribly. We all know that certain clothes are irreplaceable and I had well over $100 worth of clothes in there, but at the very least I just wanted the $29.20 back for the wash and fold bill since I didn't get what I paid for. The gentleman working there (who I assume is the manager/owner) would only give me $3 which is the cost to wash and fold the 4 lbs of "example" clothes I brought to show him. When I insisted that he give me a full refund, he would not listen to reason and came up with excuse after excuse of why my clothes were ruined. He started by trying to say that the printing on my shirts was of poor quality and ended by essentially saying "you have to prove to me that it was us that caused this damage." I asked him what kind of evidence he would need for me to prove that it was his business that caused this, and he said that I wouldn't be able to come up with anything that would convince him. He also tried to say that they are not responsible for any damage done during the wash and fold process. On their wall it clearly states "We are not responsible for any damage to your zippers, buttons.." and it goes on to mention several other things, but nowhere does it say anything about stains or damage from wash and fold. When I asked him to show me where on the receipt or in their shop it states they are not responsible for damage from wash and fold, he said "you should just know that." I was there for over 10 minutes trying to make him see my point, but in the end you just can't reason with the unreasonable. I should have listened to Lori G and Aria H and avoided this place. And like Lori G, I called American Express to file a claim. Truth be told, the money isn't the issue. I cannot stand terrible customer service but not only was the service horrendous, he essentially accused me of lying to him that the damage was caused by his company. There are plenty of other cleaning and alteration places nearby that do a better job and with MUCH better customer service...save yourself the trouble in the long run by taking your clothes to another dry cleaner. read more

A dry cleaner's will get 3 stars automatically as long as they get my clothes clean without mangling it. Why do they get this extra star? They do for the following two reasons: 1. They will stay open an extra 15 minutes. The importance of this cannot be understated. I can call from my downtown client's site, and they will stay open. 2. Very personalised service: I walk in, drop it off, and they'll remember that I like my shirts unstarched, my laundry sorted, with no fabric softener. Yeah, okay, I have to remind them of my difficult-to-remember Asian name. That my surname is obnoxiously long isn't their fault :) read more

This has been my go-to dry cleaner/tailor for almost 2 years now and every time I have had an exceptional experience working with them. I recently had a jacket altered and I was amazed by the meticulous nature of the results. I've been to numerous tailors throughout the city and these guys are by far the best in my opinion! The staff here are all very detail-oriented, and I can always expect to be completely satisfied with whatever I ask them to help me do. Not to mention, everyone who works here is very friendly, always greeting me with a smile and warm attitude whenever I walk into the shop! In addition, I find the prices here to be quite reasonable for a place on the Upper East Side. Call me crazy, but finding a place to have pants shortened properly is just not as easy as it may sound. It actually seems to be most difficult with blue jeans. No one can make the cuff look the same as it did before I took them in....until these guys! They are easy to deal with, efficient, run a clean and efficient operation, do not take forever, and have not destroyed any of my pants! Importantly, they always remember my name -- no matter how long it has been between visits. That's a win. read more

Do NOT go here! I brought an expensive $700 Helmut Lang dress here to be hemmed. When I first got it back instead of hemming it they simply cut the fabric. That's all, just cut it. I wore the dress because I had purchased it for a specific event. After one wearing the vertical seams along the dress all started to rip apart because of course the dress was simply CUT so the threads were OPEN. The dress started to fall apart. Also the cut part was starting to fray. I brought it back and the lady told me that this was standard practice for a dress like this, to cut it, that that was the style and that was how it was originally. I told her ok but can you please clean it and also fix the seams that were all busting open and ripping because of this cut. She said ok. A few days later I got the dress back. It is completely stained with black marks, looks like where they put the dress through the sewing machine. The stains are inside of the new threads that they sewed to repair the ripping seams. It is absolutely horrendous. They sent it back without calling, and the receipt on top said that they credited me back the $45 that they had charged for cleaning. Well that's great, but how about that I paid $700 for a dress that is now totally destroyed!! I called American Express and filed a claim and hope that I get some money back, but I want others to know so that they NEVER go to this awful place! read more

I needed an entire suit altered and ironed within 18 hours for a function I had the next day. They were quick, efficient, and really kind. We chatted a little while I was being sized up and to this day, months later, I just remember how well they treated me and how fantastic the final product was. I mentioned I wanted a more stylish cut, and he offered to take my suit in on the sides for a slimmer look. It wasn't something I had considered, but when I got my suit the next day, and ever since, I always get complimented on the fit. That was all Fleur de Lis. read more

Avoid this place for tailoring!! They did a terrible job on a bridesmaid dress (made it so much shorter than we discussed during my fitting - I had brought in the specific shoes I was going to wear!) and did an even worse job replacing the zipper on a winter coat. I had to bring the coat to another tailor and pay even more money to fix the bad job they did. Not only do they do a terrible job, but the owner is rude and raised his voice at me when I explained the situation. Don't waste one penny on this place when there are a million other tailors in the area who are pleasant to speak to and actually do a good job. read more

Priceless service! Had dropped off three pieces the night before and realized the next morning that I needed a 24 hour turnaround. Had low expectations because it was my error for not requesting in the first place. Went back at 8:30am and explained my situation. They tracked down the items in the morning and called me in the afternoon that they will have them ready that evening. I highly recommend this dry cleaner!!! I took in two coats and a hat over nine months ago and forgot about them until the weather started getting cold. The cleaners STILL had my items when I finally went back to pick them up! They even re-cleaned them at no charge. They obviously understand what good customer service means. They even went beyond the call of duty to make sure their customer was happy. That's practically unheard of these days. I will definitely give them my repeat business!!! read more
