I don't know anything about their machine repair services, BUT if you need a presser foot for your home machine, this is the place to go. I needed an invisible zipper foot and Steinlauf and Stoller was out of them. They were actually the ones who sent me here (they were very apologetic and mentioned they mostly deal with industrial machines.) This place had a full assortment of home AND industrial feet. 60% of the home display was Bernina accessories; the other 40% was non-branded, but would probably work fine on any machine that accepts snap-on presser feet (worked on my Brother). Best of all, my foot cost $6.75 and would have been $13 on Amazon Prime. They have a small assortment of other sewing notions, but nothing worth buying compared to Daytona Trimming and Steinlauf & Stoller. But I will be coming back for machine accessories -- it's worth crossing 8th ave! read more

Brought in my Juki serger for servicing and as usual, he explained exactly what was wrong and that my machine only needed a cleaning because the air threading tubes were clogged. Do not use these people. I shouldn't have. I should have turned around and brought my machines home. When I entered the store, Eric was not wearing a mask. The floor was wet, I learned that the store gets flooded when the street is cleaned and they store machines on the floor. I did leave the machines though. I picked them up a week later and the problems I brought them in for were not resolved. Robin, the tech person, did try to make good by sending a repair person to my home. That person didn't feel comfortable taking the machine apart and made like he was tightening a screw by 1/64th, through the front of the machine. After he left, I realized the machine sewed fine in cloth with no seams, but stopped short of being able to sew over the seam. So his, 'Yeah, I did something fix' was BOGUS. I was so weirded out by having a masked technician in my home, i rushed him out before realizing I hadn't had him look at the second machine. So that is on me. Robin offered, and I accepted, a refund on the one machine. But. No. These folk dont do good work. Stay away. DO NOT use these people. read more

Called in to inquire about serger rentals, I was very specific in stating that I was looking for a SERGER to rent as mine is currently being serviced elsewhere. The associate I spoke with said there were two Brother machines available. This was early in the day so I called back to make sure a SERGER was still available for pick up before I made the trip. Same answer as before, two Brother machines available, great. I get there and I am shown a selection of sewing machines, not sergers. As specific as I was it seems the associate did not know the difference between your standard sewing machine and a serger. What a waste of time and gas. I won't be back. read more

I came in here looking for a zipper presser foot for my Janome hello kitty machine! I called beforehand because there are tons of sewing supply stores in the garment district and i didnt want to waste my time schlepping myself door to door. I called them up and the guy I spoke to wasn't sure if there was anything that fit my machine but he told me to come in with my existing foot. And so i did. AND THEY HAVE ONE FOR MY MACHINE YAY! Most of the fabric supply stores in the area sell presser feet (foots?) for industrial machines. FYI. The guy behind the counter was nice and helpful. If you don't know anything about sewing machines and special presser foots/feet, bring your existing one in here and ask for what you need. ps. my zipper foot was 5.99, and 1/8 hemming foot was 5.99 -- they have other special presser foot/feet for your quilting needs. read more

I WOULD NOT ADVISE TO PURCHASE A MACHINE OR HAVE YOUR MACHINE REPAIRED HERE (I would give negative stars if I could). BELOW IS MY EXPERIENCE. I was looking for a standard domestic machine for basic household needs. I was able to find a Juki machine here in my price range and I purchased it. First, let's talk about the price, they charge the highest market price compared to other sellers online (I needed the machine that day, so I was okay with paying the premium). They then required me to buy their 5 year warranty and said it was better in the long run since their repair shop is in town assuming if anything goes wrong it would be more convenient than sending it to the original manufacture for repair. I used the machine a few times before the bobbin started to skip and was not catching the bottom thread. I googled the issue and it seems like it is caused by a timing difference in the turn of the wheel. I figured it shouldn't be a big issue but I didn't know how to fix it myself so I took it in. Now let's talk about repair. The man at the repair shop told me it would take a few days because they are backed up. I said okay that's fine, I wasn't expecting same day service. He said he would call me once the machine is ready. Two weeks go by and I have not heard anything. I called back the store and the man told me he is going to check with the repair shop and get back to me, and HE DOES NOT CALL BACK. I called back three times that day and he gave the same answer. I continued to call the following week and the man said that they are waiting for the part and should arrive by the end of the week. It has been two weeks since I called and I have not heard back from the store (THEY NEVER CALL YOU BACK WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL). Now it' has been almost two months since all this started and I just called today to get an update, they told me again that it will take A COUPLE MORE WEEKS. In conclusion, their product is pricey and they require you to buy a warranty that is not useful since they don't deliver their service on a timely manner AT ALL (I'm quite frustrated with this purchase as they don't do returns). They are not proactive in providing updates for your repair. It is up to you to constantly chase them to see where they are on the repair and you can't trust the timeline they provide for the time it takes for the repair. So I feel I completely ripped off and I wasted my money here. read more

Our sewing machine broke mid-fashion week. I called this place and they said book online the guy will come quickly. I didn't believe it, especially when every other place said no, it's impossible everyone is busy. The repair man came within half an hour. Fixed the machine in about 20 minutes! Amazing! Wonderful customer service. My stepdaughter's sewing machine was missing a part that I had no way of figuring out how to replace, so I called up City Sewing. The gentleman on the phone told me to come on in. When I did, he was very friendly, and in two seconds knew exactly what screw it needed. The part was $2, but he wouldn't even let me pay for it. After a miscommunication which caused me to walk about six blocks with a gigantic Bernina (do NOT pay attention to the service address on the website--go directly to the showroom), Robin was simply fantastic. I appreciate someone who can address an issue, apologize, and IMMEDIATELY make a customer feel like she is the most important person in the world. He diagnosed my problem, called Bernina to order a necessary part, and gave me a realistic estimate of time and price. I brought my sewing machine for repair 1 month ago. They did tell me it would have been fixed in 10 days and that they would have called me when ready. I had to pass by the store after 2 weeks to ask: "it will be ready next Tuesday, we'll call you" they said. I called them one week later: "I'm going to check the status of your machine: I'll call you in 10 minutes". Two days later I called, same story: they never call me back, I don't know where the hell my machine is, I'll have to go back to the store again and probably fight to get my machine back, even unfixed and take it somewhere else. read more

Old Review: (1 star) The clerk here sold me a broken walking foot that doesnt work at all. He didnt even give me a chance to look at the other ones he had and just sold me this broken piece of shit for $20. 20 motherfucking dollars for a little piece of shit foot? And a useless one at that? Come the fuck on. follow-up: I asked for a return a few days later and unfortunately, I did not get those $20 dollars back. Instead, I was offered an exchange for something else but I really didn't need anything else so naturally, I was still pretty pissed. The staff is very professional, though and so is the owner so, at least nobody was rude or anything. The staff is very friendly and helpful, to be honest. I just hate getting ripped off hence, the former bad review. Before you buy any attachment here, just be sure to check if it's good. Not helpful if you're looking to buy a machine or anything special. HOWEVER, they are the only licensed bernina repair center that I could find in the city. Their prices are reasonable ($80 for a bernina and $60 for an elna) and they did an excellent job on a tune up / yearly maintenance. My machines ran very smoothly after their repair. read more

The staff at City Sewing Machine was great and professional! Robin who is the owner was very helpful at the time that I was searching to buy a five thread Overlock. I had many questions regarding the merchandise that he had on display because I had heard from neighboring businesses that city sewing machine was not the place to buy from. I was proven wrong, they sold me a machine that I have been very happy with. It was delivered within a timely manner and I have not had any problems with the machine in over year. Super helpful staff! The owner was extremely friendly and let me try the sewing machine at request. I also know absolutely nothing about sewing machines, but he was so patient at explaining everything (even down to how to thread it). Then he also got someone to help me carry the machine outside to get a taxi, which I was amazed and extremely thankful of. On Saturday, November 16, 2013, I went to the City Sewing located at 300 West 38th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues . . . right next door to the 2 Bros. Pizza. I went there to purchase sewing needles for a Juki Industrial Sewing Machine. The proprietor of the store was a man who had his wife and child with him. When I asked for the specific needles, this proprietor informed me that he did not have what I was looking for, but he had another type and wanted to know if these needles were being used with leather. Since I was a messenger, I was not familiar with the needles; and I called my client on my cellphone and gave the proprietor my phone to speak with my client. The next thing I knew, this proprietor took my cellphone and slammed it on the floor in front of his wife and child. I was dumbfounded as I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed. I told the proprietor that I was going to call the police and I left the store. Before my phone was totally out of commission, I went back to the store and took several pictures of the front of the store and the proprietor. The proprietor proceeded to have his wife lock the door. He tried to hide his face as I was taking photos of the front of the store. The proprietor then came out of the store and started yelling and screaming obscenities. Customers seated outside of the pizzeria witnessed this confrontation. Apparently, City Sewing has another location at 247 West 38th Street. I proceeded to speak with the employees at this location and reported the incident. The employees at this location provided me with the name of the Store Manager (Robin Rosado) in order to file a complaint and to obtain reimbursement for my broken cellphone. I attempted to get in contact with this store manager several times on Monday, November 18, 2013, to report the incident, but the person who answered the phone did not know when the store manager would be in. I can not describe enough my frustration about this place. These people most careless and unprofessional you can imagine. I brought my machine for repair, Miguel told me it will take a 2-3 days. After 7 days I called to ask if my machine is ready, gave them receipt nr and they don't know where my machine was. They promise to call me back, they didn't. I called back the next day finally they find my machine and told it is ready. I picked it up, brought it home, first of all it was so dirty and sticky, I start cleaning it and stickiness didn't come of until I used acetone which erased the machine's name (Juki),then I tried to sew and it worked for no longer that 1 min and instead of 3 threads Robin changed to 4 threads without even consulting it. Everything was imbalanced, machine wasn't oiled as I asked (and Miguel made a note on receipt). I had to bring it back for the second time. Miguel called Robin to come and when I asked him if he is technician he denied...I asked for my money back but they said they going to fix it soon this time. It took another 2 days of aggravation and 4 phone calls of begging to speed it up. Please run away from this place!!! Robin is an idiot. read more
