The wines also range in regions theyre from, making it fun to try different types of wines, including types you might not always find everywhere. Pair good wine and dessert with a cell phone free environment and you have the optimal formula for disconnecting and enjoying your company. I'd never actually made it inside Gâté Comme des Filles- despite trying. The first time, was when my kid moved from PDX to Cambridge and somehow it misfired because I never got the location right and because they're located within a multi-level building. The second time, I managed to land the location but they were closed. But the third time? It was the one! Now here's the twist: even though Gâté bakes most of its pastries in-house, they no longer make their Instagram-famous chocolate mousse there. Instead, it's made here at Zuzu's. So naturally... here we are. I couldn't leave my daughter out of this beauty- so after dinner nearby, we intentionally skipped dessert there and rushed here just before closing. Thank God we did. Zuzu's was actually closed to the public for a private event, but luckily they were still doing take out. A win is a win. Two chocolate mousses to go! We wanted a wine bar and ended up at Zuzu's. It's a very small place, but they do take reservations. Kind of wished they did bottles, but they only serve by the glass. A great concept of having a no-screen policy. The atmosphere of this place is soooo nice. Very charming, calming, and you do kind of feel like you've been transported to somewhere in Europe. The wine offerings are delicious, though a little on the pricier side. I did appreciate seeing the different tasting notes on the menu that went along with each wine. We also ordered dessert, the tiramisu and the molten dark chocolate cake. Sadly, I had to remove one star from my review because of how much of a letdown the chocolate cake was. It was completely over-cooked--not molten at all--and quite dry. Additionally, it came with the smallest scoop of ice cream I'd ever received with dessert from a restaurant/wine bar. This place was definitely a rowdy crowd, so if you are looking for a more chilled experience, this isn't the place. The place was extremely loud and service was a bit all over the place. It was difficult to get anyone attention to get seated, with no set host and spit where you would even check-in. You just had to try to get the very busy waiters attention and then wait some more. Stood there for about ten minutes before anyone took our name. Service didn't get any better once seated. Desserts were a great size but the wine collection left a bit to be desired. There were no sweeter wines at all, all dry which surprised me. The tiramisu was very thick and heavy and the ice cream very creamy but not super rich or deep flavor. Overall probably won't return. But definitely seems the place for a large group of friends to get drinks. The phone only rule isn't really enforced if that's what's keeping you back btw. read more

I went to Zulu's recently for post-dinner drinks and dessert and had a lovely time. The space is a little small and quirky but overall is cozy and comfortable. They have a great wine list that gives enough options without being overwhelming. The food menu is limited to a few snacks and desserts. I loved the concept of having a no-screen wine bar/dessert place. We stopped by on a Friday evening and it was empty, which was great. We've come other times and seen a long line. Our server was friendly and largely left us alone, and we had a lovely time catching up. I wasn't particularly wowed by the dessert items- we got the raspberry chip ice cream and the apple crumble. Zuzu's is a fun and cozy place! great atmosphere for a date or to catch up with friends. we went as a group of four treating a friend from out of town who loves wine and sweets. our 10 pm friday night reservation was delayed a bit due to a lingering table having lots of fun (def not any fault of the staff!!), but upon being seated we started with the cheese board and a recommended bottle of wine from a kind server. as we were eating we tried to make eye contact or attention to order some desserts but somehow kept missing out (maybe it was just bad timing and to be fair it was near closing time, so we def felt a little like the staff was ready to go home -- especially apparent given they were blasting their records). All in all it was fun, the cheese and wine were tasty, but i wish i could review a dessert. The service was disappointing and it is definitely over priced. Given that, I would not stop you from trying this place, either going a bit earlier than we did or ordering all at once! it's a fun stop if you're nearby but don't be like us and miss the chance to order dessert! read more

This is such a cute dessert and wine bar near Inman Square. We went here around 7pm on a Friday and were able to be seated with no wait. The menu was pretty pricey (around $15 per dessert and $68 if you decide to splurge on the cheese fondue), but the portion of chocolate mousse we got was more than enough for two to share. Overall, the intimate vibes of this place are top notch. Service is pretty hands off besides taking and bringing your order to you, sort of like a cafe, so it allows you to fully enjoy your company there. This is a perfect date spot or cute catch up place to go with friends (probably not for groups too large though, since most tables are for two). Highly recommend! read more

This small bar was such a fun place to gather with friends! You will absolutely need a reservation due to the small space, but such an atmosphere makes it feel incredibly cozy and welcoming. Our server was sweet and helped us choose our wines and desserts, making it easy to navigate their menu. There is constantly chatter here, which I loved because it made it feel more casual than upscale. Our wines were served promptly and I enjoyed the variety they offered. I personally don't prefer dry wines, but found some bubbly ones I liked. For dessert, we tried the tiramisu and mousse. The tiramisu was very dense and quite alcoholic at the bottom, but super delicious. It's also a really big portion for one person, so I wasn't able to finish it myself! The mousse however, was jaw dropping and I could easily finish one cup! This dessert wasn't too sweet, was a little bitter, and had a very slight earl grey taste to it. It was dense but not so much that I had to stop eating after a couple bites. I would absolutely come back just to have this mousse! In the end, we all enjoyed coming here and appreciated the hospitality and atmosphere! read more

Cute spot & I liked the no phone zone. We had wine, desserts, and played bananagrams! We didn't have a reservation and there was enough space to hang out for a while. The wine was good but a bit pricey per glass. I had the chocolate mousse ($17) and not worth it IMO. It was just mousse with whipped cream on top. There was only one waitress and service was extremely slow. Walk ins that came in after us were served first so that was a bit off putting. There was also a strange smell. I DO NOT recommend this place. Zuzus petals is extremely small and extremely overpriced. This is coming from someone who loves wine bars. I went there once, had a group reservation but when we arrived they has given away our table ~10 minutes before our arrival, causing us to wait an hour for our table. The place is super small, and it was in the middle of a rainstorm, so we had to wait outside in the rain. After that we got a cheeseboard and some wine to share and holy moly was it overpriced. The cheeseboards alone were super expensive for very little cheese, and they did not even bring us silverware, just a small baguette and cheese but know knives, forks, anything. Went to Zuzu's Petal's for New Years this past year and only got to review it now, but me and my friends had an absolutely wonderful experience there. Although they have a pretty limited menu, the food that was served was absolutely delicious. I got their crepe parisienne which was surprisingly made with buckwheat which I really enjoyed. My favorite breton crepes are made with buckwheat, and this crepe really reminded me of them. I don't eat pork, so I was pleasantly surprised that even with the limited menu, there were many different crepes I could try without pork, which is rare for many savory crepe locations. We also split two bottles of wine which were both very delicious. The restaurant was very nicely decorated for the new year, and the service was splendid, truly making me and my friends feel special for that night. read more

Later, we waited another 10 minutes to order a second round, with empty glasses on the table and no staff in sight--despite three people on duty. I eventually had to get up and ask for help. Zuzu's vibe is stellar. The decor (in my unprofessional guess of a description) can be described as vintage European meets cute mid century modern. They play jazz on the record player. It is an intimate, no tech zone. The servers were both lovely. What tacks off a star for me is the price. It is very expensive for just dessert. The portions are larger than a standard dessert at a restaurant, but it was still more expensive than I expected. Expect to pay $15-$18 for a single dessert. It's gonna be pricey. I don't think cost should ever play into the rating of something - but the value per dollar should. The establishment was cute, but nothing too gaudy. A bit small which does make it intimate and is complemented by the no cellphone policy, but you do get to over hear other guests in their conversations. We had the crème brûlée and a drier tart wine which was an excellent recommendation pairing by the server. Can't say the service was amazing for the price, especially since there were only a few guest parties sitting in. We went there after dinner with another fun couple on a Saturday and had the best time. They play all vinyl, which is dope, Bobby, one of the owners, was in charge and the selection was deep super ill album cuts. Hot. The desserts are fyyyyyyyah!!! Alexandra brings the pain when she serves it up. I'm not even a dessert guy and I fux with it. Heavy. My wife left her coat there and we went back then next Saturday just to pick it up and because it's so cozy and fresh we ended up sitting down and running through several bottles and desserts. I've been waiting for Zuzu's to open for weeks now, as it's in my neighborhood. I was NOT disappointed! We started with orange and pink wines paired with a baguette and a goat and Tarantaise cheese (from VT) and then followed that up with reds and tiramisu with ladyfingers. Are you kidding me? We've been waiting for a place like this for years! Who needs dinner when you can have wine, cheese, and dessert? Everything was DELICIOUS! The atmosphere was like a tiny little french bistro, our waiter couldn't have been nicer, and the no cell-phone policy is just fantastic! I loved looking around and seeing everyone CHATTING without checking phones and photographing everything! And also, the outside seating is just so cute and lovely, too! Our only suggestion, and this will not prevent us from returning again and again, is to offer a small plate of fermented veggies. Had such high hopes for this cute little spot, but NOPE. First, this is a dessert place right? And yet they have no dessert wines. Very confusing. We ordered a glass of red which came out cold, having been in the refrigerator. We also ordered two desserts, the tiramisu and the chocolate cake. The tiramisu was not in fact tiramisu, it was coffee mousse with some ladyfingers shoved on the side, and the chocolate cake was the driest I've ever had. When you enter, you feel like you're entering a whole new world. Please note: Zuzu's no cellphone policy forces patrons to be in the moment - savoring their time with each other and each bite. (My only regret is this means no pictures to share with my review!) The cheese board is simple and elegant. A baguette pairing allows the focus to remain on the cheese and the wine. We tried many glasses and all were delightful - from the Chiarreto (the owner's favorite) to the Sancerre to the Rioja (a must try!) - our waiter, Dante, made great suggestions and there are also pairing suggestions included with the menu. Lastly, the desserts are to die for. If you haven't experienced the owner's chocolate at Gate Comme Des Filles, be prepared to be blown away! Alex is incredibly talented and dessert (and chocolates) is where she shines! Try them all. We even "tried' the creme brulee twice!
