Maybe you've seen Órale Mexico and dismissed it- like I have while stuck on Route 299's road construction causing a traffic jam. Or maybe not. This super orange spot however, is hard to miss located on Old Route 299 in Highland, NY. And the interior at Órale M., is just as colorful with Mexican ceiling banners and wall murals. At $16 or so for small, 'street-style' shrimp tacos, they were a bit more than what I wanted to pay- but hey...seafood prices right? The doubly-ply tacos were filled with diced and succulent+seasony shrimp. The right amount of veg was nice too. I've been to Mexican spots where tomato+onions+cilantro overpowers the protein- but not here which I liked. Shrimp tails were cooked with the cut up shrimp and not sure if this was an oversight(?) or, just how they do(?). The meal was comforting at least..... without the tails of course. My diluted-looking horchata had wonderful taste- but, service was nice and so were the complimentary chips and salsa. read more

Orale Mexico has the best Mexican food in New Paltz. It's a bit out of town, but worth the few minutes to get there. Authentic taste and feel, the beans are not soupy goop but have real body and flavor. Extensive menu, friendly service and good drinks. Definitely give it a try. read more

For years we have passed this restaurant and have always wanted to stop, but never had a chance to. Today was our day! It was a beautiful afternoon so we parked in the back, walked into the bar area and asked if we could sit outside. Initially we were just going to have a drink but we decided to snack. Hubby ordered queso con chorizo, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the Huevos rancheros, so rare to find that on a lunch menu, so I was pleased...did not disappoint....eggs were over easy, and the sauce was great! It was definitely a knife and fork dish. The margaritas and sangrias were also very good. Next time we will have entrees, as we will be back! Bartender and waiter were both super friendly and excellent service! read more

Went here for the first time on NYE, and was pleased to be the only patrons. With covid we wanted to go somewhere outside of the main strip in New Paltz. Had a coconut margarita that was definitely too over priced (10$$$$) and did not have the proper tequila to mix ratio. BUT I saw the sign for $5 margaritas on Mondays and that intrigues me! Will update y'all if I return for this deal. The fajita was flavorful and sizzling!! The Mexican stuffed shrimp..... notttttt what I was expecting. Picture a cooked shrimp with a mozzarella stick and then wrap that in bacon. Actually, you don't have to picture it, just look at the attached photo. It was .... good, very heavy but absolutely not what I had in mind and I was a bit disappointed. But we had the chips and guacamole as well and that made up for it! read more

Yelped Mexican while in the area and came upon this place with no reviews and thought, why not. Called ahead and was told they had outdoor seating which we prefer during Covid. We arrived and were quickly seated outside. Our drink order and food order were taken quickly also. We munched on the chips and salsa while we waited. Their salsa is good, looks made not purchased which is awesome but it was lacking salt as was much of their food. I prefer lacking so I can add vs too much and I won't eat it. Son got nachos with added chicken and he loved them! I got veggie burrito that I enjoyed but they had a sweet red sauce on top that I didn't enjoy. Daughter got yummy chicken soup and hubby veggie fajitas which he liked a lot also. We also got some churros to go, so yummy! So overall there are some tweaks they should make but def try this place for yourself. Service is amazing!! read more

Late night stop on a Friday. One of the only restaurants open later in the area. The food was average for Mexican. Got the enchiladas molé and it wasn't spicy at all. Everything was fresh and hot, but little flavor. The rice was very good, the beans were average, and the salsa was full of onion (which i love), but many may not like that. My mother got the chimichangas and they were hot, crispy, and fresh. Service was lovely. The waitress was very nice and helpful and the food came out quick. read more

After a wrong turn that added a FULL HOUR to our travel time two very hungry girls pulled into this little Mexican spot. The margaritas were very good. However, the food was subpar at best. Think frozen Mexican rice and refried beans from a can. We did arrive an hour before they closed so maybe that had something to do with the quality of the food? We're staying in New Paltz just steps away from Orale Mexico so ordered some takeout. I wanted Tres Leche cake, but they were out. My husband bought me a flan instead. I don't like flan, but I'm in LOVE with Orale Mexico's flan. It's solid, not slimy and not too eggy. Just really smooth, soothing and not too sweet. The plantains are yummy too. I'll be popping by for more before we leave town. read more

The food was great, very friendly staff, just a nice family business. I forgot my credit card and they mailed it back the next day, so I love these guys. You get big portions for a reasonable price, it's a little off the main drag, but it worth the short ride. read more

I enjoyed Órale Mexico. It's authentic Mexican food, and they got my order for customized huevos rancheros correct the first time, which almost noplace does. I always order them "over well, so the yolks are hard", and this seems to be much more than most makers of huevos rancheros can grasp. But the person who made them for me at Órale Mexico got it, in one take. The food was very good, and the ambiance of the place felt like I was in Mexico (or at least in Southern California) despite the cold New York day outside - real hand-done Mexican decor, traditional Mexican music on the sound system, a Mexican show on the (one) television in the place...and I don't remember my server's name, but he was a delightful guy, very attentive and excellent at his job (I got the feeling he might be the owner, server, and cook in one). When I'm in the area and hungry for Mexican food, I'll come back here in a heartbeat. read more

We ordered the mixed combo fajitas, the chicken soup and margaritas and all exceeded our expectations. SHHHHHHH - This place is the best kept secret. Open on Mondays (it is hard to find an open restaurant on Monday around here this time of year.) They make amazing Margaritas (They had a Monday special and they are $5). I have ordered several traditional meals, Taco, Burrito, Chimichanga, Tostada & Enchilada - never disappointed. Tonight I decided to try something different - Camarones Rellenos (Stuffed shrimp) and WOW! I have my new favorite. Absolutely out of this world!! Wrapped in bacon and cooked to perfection. Excellent Mexican Cuisine. Great Guacamole! I had Combo #1: Ground Beef Taco, Shredded Beef Burrito, Chicken Chimichanga with rice & beans. It was wonderful. I ordered delivery the next second time: almost as good. Third time today, same order. Just wonderful. Each part of the combo stands on its own. I worked in restaurants for 10+years. Well bad smell outside. Old smells inside cute murals on the walls. Server comes ask for cheese dip cool your out at 5p. Server had a weird attitude did not feel like he wanted us there or to serve us. Order unsweetened tea got nasty like Lipton raspberry fountain tea. Unfortunately we arrived here at 9 an hour prior to closing and were told we can eat in if we sit at the bar. So we sat at the bar, I ordered a margarita which tasted a little more like store bought margarita mix. We then ordered food and it came out by 9:30 which is not a bad wait at all. However, our food was given to us in to-go containers and I had a 2 hour drive. So I did not get to eat the food until I got home. At that point it was cold, the chicken fajitas had good flavor but wasn't a fan of the rice and beans.
