I have had two experiences with 1800GJ, and both have been fantastic. My most recent haul-away was for a giant area rug. I had called around to several places, and had received a quote of $100. When I called 1800GJ, they were super friendly right off the bat and offered to pick it up within a couple of hours. They showed up exactly when they said they would, and hauled the rug away for an even lower price of $75! The whole experience was quick and easy. This service is great! Mike and Dejon were scheduled for my pickup from 11-1. They called around 8:45am to tell me they were running ahead of schedule and asked if it would be OK to come early. I appreciated this as I wasn't ready just yet but agreed to have them come an hour early. Mike and Dejon were timely, professional, and courteous. They reviewed their process and prices with me and then removed 5 large pieces of furniture and 4 mattresses all in less than 45 minutes. Mike the dispatcher is a great representative for his company but the driver Matt is horrible. He bad-mouthed his coworker Mike when he called me and when he arrived. He didn't really want to come over and give me a free estimate, as Mike said he would, even though he earns his living by hauling junk. His looks and manner were crude and crass. He never introduced his helper. He took a look at my donation pile and said it was a lot bigger than I told him and it would fill his truck more than he had expected. He was not the least interested in recycling or preserving the environment, even though one of the main reasons I called the company was because they supposedly make sure everything goes to charities and recyclers. Mike had assured me the drivers were passionate about recycling but Matt was completely disinterested. When I told him about how a large beam could be re-used, he asked me if I wanted to keep it! I want to get rid of everything, just not add to the landfill. I'm hiring Dolly instead, for a fraction of the price. No, they don't recycle but they don't pretend to either. read more

In the strongest terms possible do yourself a favor and stay away from these shucksters / grifters. Not only showed up 45 minutes late but claimed not to have a detailed written price sheet for their hauling services. Was quoted $687 dollars to take three very niced conditioned couches 1.5 miles to donation drop off center. When I balked at the outrageous quote the lead guy said "well what do you want to pay for us to take these to the drop off'? I said $300 dollars and your going 1.5 miles. He said let me call my boss, so this took another 20 minutes for him to say we can't do it. Said good by called another service called Lugg. They were there in an hour with clearly established written rates and app to track where there truck was and constant texts's to not only arrival but arrival at end location. Oh yeah Lugg charged me $150 dollars to do the same thing 1-800 got Junk quoted $687 dollars to do. Horrible experience!!!!!!! Feel sorry for the older generation that is out there seeing their ads and trying to rely on this company for fair and reliable service and not know that there are other better options!!!!! read more

After using one of their copycat competitors in the past for marginally less money and not being satisfied by the caliber of employees and service they gave me, I decided to call Got-Junk. For a little bit more money the booking was seamless and clear, the guys were polite, prompt, and left my home tidy after billing me exactly what I was told up front. Their ad says they'll show up on time. I was scheduled for 10-12. I called at 9:50 to let them know I was ready. They said they'd be there at 11:00. At 11:15 I called to see how they were doing. They then said they'd be there at 11:30. I called again at 11:50. They said they had to we're just leaving the prior job, had to drive to the dump, unload the prior job and then drive to me. They said "12:30ish", a half hour past their promise. Realistically it would be 1:30 or later, an hour and a half past their commitment. I cancelled. I don't know if it is a management problem in overbooking (like the airlines) or what, but I drove 50 miles to meet them only to have them keep postponing well beyond the committed time until I gave up on their empty promises. read more

VERY disappointed. I have used this company twice before and was very pleased. however this time, was ridiculous. the first crew came on time, at noon, as scheduled, but with a truck with debris already in it. they took some of my junk and told me I would need to call to reschedule a pick up for the rest. I called and was told another crew would respond. The crew and times continued to change throughout the day. When the second crew came, they mostly picked out all the recyclable metal junk then insisted yet another crew respond to take the remaining junk. Finally, the 3rd crew responded and took the remaining junk. they finished at about 6pm. yes, 3 crews, 6 hours, and about $2000. I felt I was price gouged, but needed the junk gone. I believe most of the junk would have fit in one totally empty truck had it been loaded properly and had been empty at the beginning. oh, also, in addition to the amount of junk, I was charged due to the excess weight. Again, I would have cancelled, but needed the junk gone at the time. Live and learn. Won't use that company again due to inflated prices and disorganized dispatch (not to mention the obvious internal conflicts based on the excessive complaining about the other crew members). if you decide to try this company, schedule the service before your project deadline so you can decline their services if they try to price gouge you and you can try another company. read more

800-GOT-JUNK is more like 800-GET-SCREWED. I called for a quote for a bed, mattress, small dorm fridge, microwave plus several items from a 5x5 storage unit and I was told $450. I decided to have them haul away just the bed and mattress as the other items could fit in my SUV...and I was quoted $65. When they showed up, they wanted $300...$100 for the mattress plus another $200 for the bed and showed me their price sheet. There was nothing on the price sheet for under $100, so I have no idea what the rep originally quoted me. I ended up calling a local company who hauled away the bed plus a few other items for only $100. I'm learning to stay away from franchise companies like this and Two Men and a Truck, as the "low quote, then screw them over once we get there" seems to be standard practice. The advertising always looks good, but just remember someone has to pay for all that advertising. read more

I just had them out here today to haul some junk away, but was shocked at their estimate. In the past their prices were reasonable. But they wanted $500 for half a load. I said, hmm, that was the price I paid to have my septic pumped, seems steep for wood fence pieces. They admitted their prices had gone up. I called another company and said 1800 got junk estimated half a load and Busby said their trucks were bigger and it would be 1/4 to 3/8 load, which is $180 to $220. Horrific experience when I tried to call then to get an estimate. H e quoted me 97$ + tax for a removal of a loveseat from my apartment. I basically got that couch for free so wanted a minute to think about it. So I indicated that I will call him back. The guy taking the call got very rude and basically screamed at me. in a very bad tone, he asked me what is the problem and why do I have to call back. if i could go lower than 1 star i would. do not call or ever consider hiring this company! i did not get an upfront price quote, as promised. the drivers kept insisting the price list was on the website, which it is not. but we didn't have time or the help to rent a truck and haul a garage full of stuff from grandma's estate. so we were stuck. overpriced! showed up 2 hours late for appt made 2 weeks in advance! did not hustle, nor did they make a huge effort to go above and beyond, as their website promised. half-assed clean up of our driveway. broken glass everywhere. 2 trucks and 2 drivers showed up, but when one truck was filled, that driver left, leaving one guy to load the 2nd truck. at $100 an hour i didn't get my money's worth on that. sorry if i went all caps there, but i want to help others see what i did not. i made the mistake of not coming to yelp first. don't make our mistake. we still have a uhaul load of trash to remove on our own. screw you 1-800 got junk, because i still have junk. UPDATE! I did receive a call from the franchise owner, after I posted this truthful review. The Tacoma branch did return to the house the following Saturday and picked up the balance of the load for free, and did refund me $100 towards the original labor cost. The Tacoma crew was a lot better than the original crew. Too bad they didn't show up for the first appointment, because maybe the review would have merited more than 1 star. I have not changed my mind about this business, however. I will not call or recommend 1-800 Got Junk to anyone. I am not the only person who has negatively reviewed them here, so it's not an isolated experience. Perhaps the business can learn something from their customers. Treat your customers right the first time, and you won't waste time or money trying to fix your mistakes. read more
